My wife and I ate there Sunday evening. I ordered the Turkey Potpie. Well it was creamed turkey and a biscuit. After I complained they replaced my meal with their free range chicken dinner, that was great. My wife had the Rack of lamb, it was 3 ribs and was raw inside the chops. Think twice! Went here before a concert at the stadium and had a reservation. We were seated immediately, but after sitting for 15 minutes, we had to ask for a server and finally got water. We ordered a bottle of wine, but after waiting another 25 minutes (total of 40 after we were seated), we left without having anything to eat or drink. Nobody seemed to care. Won't go back. read more

We think that Normandy Kitchen is fantastic! We have been going there every since it opened (again.) Besides a great atmosphere that feels very much like we're in one of our favorite New York hotel restaurants, the service and location couldn't be better. We always take advantage of the free, convenient and validated parking in the heart of downtown! The real treat, however, is the food. Both of us are often entertaining clients for breakfast or lunch and there is just no better place. While all of their food is fantastic, my favorite is the "baked oatmeal" at breakfast. I swear, it's addictive! I recently entertained a client from London and he had just come to Mpls from two weeks in NYC. He insisted on going back the next day for another "meeting" and told me that it was the best food that he had since arriving in the U.S. We love to see the looks on the faces of our clients/friends when we tell them to meet us at the N.K. and then the look of delight on their faces when they walk in to this place. We have converted a lot of people and helped them find out that that funny looking hotel on 8th street has an amazing interior! They've found the right balance between - - Casual comfort / old world feel, Knowledge / attentiveness of staff, Delicacy / richness of my choice for the evening (Salmon Papillote, moist and perfectly complemented with vegetables). Josh the bartender was one of the best in the cities. His margaritas made my taste buds tingle as if they were on a turbulent plane. Not only was he efficient with his customers in a completely full bar... He tended to his guests with such a positive attitude that it made the whole bar ecstatic with fun and energy. I'm from Seattle and i will definitely be returning to this bar to watch this young man work his magic. Tracy just finished an excellent dinner here this evening. The tomato basil soup was obviously made from scratch. I had the turkey pot pie which was more like a stew topped with a sage biscuit. Appalling.. I just had what is easily in my top 5 WORST restaurant experiences of all time - which is major because I dine out at least 5x's a week. We went here for Thanksgiving because we had to go out and had few options. Too bad for us. The food was fine and our server (Kevin) was pleasant. However the rest of our experience ran the negative gamut from mediocre to Infuriating. We had 3 delicious popovers (although, I think a monkey could make a pretty good popover) and that is where our delight ended. The biggest bummer of the evening by far was the manager Bonnie. She single-handedly ruined our Thanksgiving. It wasn't just her extreme lack of concern for customer service, it was her apparent enjoyment of the opportunity to be rude to us that really did it. My party of 4 ordered 3 "family style" Thanksgiving meals and one regular entree. We were barely able to finish half of our food, so when we were told by our admittedly embarrassed waiter that we were "not allowed" to take our leftovers home we were beyond confused. We waited over 15 minutes for the manager to come talk to us about this despite the fact that the restaurant was pretty empty. When we were finally able to ask her why we weren't allowed to take the food we PAID FOR ($30+ per plate) all she could say was "it's our policy" and then "no one else has complained" Seriously?! This disgusting wastefulness made me absolutely sick! You are going to throw away a huge plate of food that we paid for because of "policy"?! Well yes "we can't serve it again after it had your fork in it" What?! Wow. Mind blown. We were forced to give up after several minutes of trying to appeal to what amounts to an icy wall. I can only wonder if that the HUGE glittering cross she wore around her neck blinded her ability to see clearly the true spirit of the holiday. Perhaps it was so heavy it hampered her ability to provide any customer satisfaction whatsoever. Seriously Bonnie, WWJD? Probably not blatantly waste ridiculous amounts of food despite conscientious peoples extreme objections. read more

Had 5:30 dinner reservations on a Saturday. we showed up right on time. The place was empty or only a few patrons in the restaurant and a few people at the bar. We were seated right away sat down we had water glasses filled for us the we waited and waited. 5, 10, 15 minutes go by and a server finally shows up. we remind him we have not even done a drink order yet. so we placed a drink order and food order at the same time. wait, wait, wait, were now 33 minutes into being there and we still only have water on our table. we had a different server ask if we have been helped and our server finally came back to the table and acted shocked we have not received our drinks yet. 35 minutes to get a glass of wine?? really, as I said the place was empty. 2 minutes the food showed up. It was quite good. portions were a bit small but food was good. now were done and need the pay. server was not around again, needed to flag the hostess down to find our server and she could not. Manager brought us the check. $75.00 for 2 glasses of wine, 2 entrees and nothing else. no salad, no bread nothing. Not worth the price for small portions and bad service. would not recommend to anyone. Overpriced and poor service. 2 stars only because the food actually was good. This quite little corner has AMAZING food. We have eaten here 4 times or more, and the chef's specials are excellent! Get here before they remodel, because the you'll be waiting for a table. The Sea Bass with succotash was fresh, clean and excellent. The succotash had fresh sweet corn, peppers, bacon and a touch of jalepino that made it spark. They're homemade ice cream is killer. Simple vanilla was flavorful and excellent. Get there before the remodeling is done, or wait in line. This place is going to rock downtown!! read more

This weekend was our first time eating at Normandy Kitchen. We chose to eat here while staying at the Normandy Inn. The main dining area was closed for remodeling, so we were seated in the bar area. The food and service here was amazing! The food was very comparable to Mon Ami Gabi in Las Vegas at the Paris casino. Great steak frites and French onion soup. Our server, Jason went above and beyond to accommodate us with our food and drink orders. This restaurant will definitely be our first choice the next time we visit the twin cities. This was probably the worst service I have had at a restaurant. We were early for our reservation and were seated immediately so we got off to a great start. We received our drinks and placed our orders, including the orders for two in our party who were going to be late. We were then left alone and not checked on until our food came. Our late guests were not offered a beverage other than water and my daughter my drinks were not refilled at all (and upon getting the bill I realized they were $4 each). The host/manager, who was our server, acted like we were a huge inconvenience to him and the restaurant, especially when we asked for our bill to be split appropriately. Everyone in our party agreed that the food was fantastic; however, the terrible service overshadowed the food quality. In my opinion, the communication between staff members was the pitfall that caused this and it's something that could easily be corrected. read more

Enjoyed all of them and was particularly impressed with the service both in the restaurant and bar. I'm just in town from NYC and wish there was a place like this back there. Have eaten breakfasts, lunches and dinners here and I have yet to be disappointed. The waitstaff is incredible - there are two in particular that I always look forward to seeing when I dine here. I can't eat meat, but my dining companions that do and have ordered any of the pork or beef dishes have been very impressed. The Nicoise Salad is fantastic and they also have a wonderful beet salad. The red berry tea is my favorite beverage. I bring my friends, family and business associates here and will continue to do so. read more

My son made a reservation for a large group and had several subsequent conversations confimring the number of people, asking about amenities, etc. They acted like they had no idea we were coming. It took them 15 minutes to get something set up to accommodate our group of 11. After waiting for 10 minutes to order, it took another 50 minutes to get our food. I was reminded of a Seinfeld episode... "you know how to *take* the reservation, you just don't know how to *hold* the reservation. And that's really the most important part of the reservation: the holding. Anybody can just take them." read more
