Worst service EVER! We had to seriously walk out without eating both our waiters were more worried about their phones than catering to the customers. We were there with our 3 kids. And it took them 10 minutes to even take our drink order finally after 30 minutes of waiting still hadn't gotten our food and no bread. But the people behind us with a party of 7 that came in 10 minutes after us got there food way before we did. Horrible service and we will definitely not be returning. read more

Great food friendly staff. They recently added a number 5 to their menu and I highly suggest it. It starts with a biscuit add hashbrowns, cheese, scrambled eggs and gravy then bacon and a hefty amount of chicken strips and another biscuit on top. Go there all of the time and still every single time, as soon as I walk in several servers will scream "Anywhere you like". ha! This place is essentially a diner. The breakfast is always good as are most meals. They have a loyal customer base so it gets REALLY busy for breakfast after 9 and for lunch. Dinner can be busy. The food ranges from Meatloaf to Chicken Fried Steak to hearty salads. You get three veggie choices with most meals plus rolls and cornbread. Every meal has that homemade taste and the portion size is quite hearty. My only two criticisms are: 1.) The chicken tenders. They are essentially a chicken breast cut into three too large pieces and deep fried. I've tried them several times - to be sure - but each time they had way too much breading and were fried hard and chewy. I'd stay away from their strips. 2.) If you like to add sweetner to your tea, move your glass out of the reach of the waiters. They have an extremely annoying habit of coming over and pouring more tea into your glass with no warning, without asking and before you can stop them. One of my friends calls their tea refills a "sneak attack." Worth the trip. read more

Stopped in for breakfast and although the parking lot was packed, they seated us right away. Their biscuits and gravy were awesome. The biscuits were huge and came with the gravy on the side. Been back several times since and the food is always great. Their waffle is nothing short of amazing--partly due to the butter they serve--Land O' Lakes--highest quality as far as I'm concerned. Norma's is always very good and fairly predictable. I usually get whatever the special is for the day. The fried pickles are really good if you are in the mood for an appetizer. My last visit there (at lunch on Saturday), the service was a little slow...but apart from that, everything was fine. read more

I started eating at Norma's in 2009, and they have most of the same staff as the first time I visited. Love the pie, chicken fried chicken, burgers, tots... I could continue to list, but I would probably just say the whole menus. Great customer service. My only criticism is that I often don't get off work until after they have closed. read more

1st time eating at this place. I ate over 2 years ago at the 1 in Farmers Branch. Can't remember it. So Starting with the Service. Great, because they were packed. Speed was Ok because they were packed. Very clean. Now for the Food. Cheese Burger was 1 of the Best I have ever eaten. Tator Tots were Tator Tots. Diet Coke was as Close to what you get from a can as possible. Chocolate pie was Great. But the topping was 3 inches in height. $12.52 cost. Will return. Nothing to complain about. An old gem tucked away from the hustle and bustle of downtown Dallas. This oak cliff diner offers amazing down home country cooking with the feel of your moms kitchen. Terrible terrible and did I mention terrible?!? This is by far the worst place to eat AND work at. This place is roach infested, and the kitchen crew never get a real break from their 8 hour shifts, plus the GM fails take the necessary actions to watch out for her kitchen crew. Not only was I in two accidents where the last one put me on a heart condition from being shocked by a faulty machine. But they failed to call the ambulance or ask me if I needed to go home. I had to have a fellow coworker take me to the ER and they failed to call my emergency contact number and tell them what happened. When my family called the job to see what had happened they didn't tell them that I was in the hospital they just said that I just left hours prior to them calling. The place is disgusting and I'm embarrassed that I ever worked here. read more

Wow.... just WOW!!! I wish there were more stars to give! My husband had been following Norma's for a while on social media so when we learned that our evening plans were going to take us near the Davis st. Location, we knew we HAD to make arrangements to stop by. The menu options were quite eclectic from American diner food to authentic Mexican breakfast (whaaaat???) I know right!?! Our small party of three decided divvy up the choices and get a good sample of the whole menu. The classic burger was just that... CLASSIC. It tasted like something you'd get at an old fashioned diner. The bun was perfectly crispy and stuffed with all the fixins (that's Texan for lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, onions and jalapeños). The chicken fried steak was again pretty CLASSIC! I'm almost certain they had my grandma in the kitchen cooking that up for us! So basically everything was 5 star review worthy, but the absolute BEST part of our experience was the service. If you go... ask to be sat with Gizmo!!! She is a local who loves to serve her community through her role as a server at Norma's! She was the highlight of our evening. We can't wait to go back! We go very often but today was different they didn't give my boyfriend his veterans discount because he wasn't in uniform. Which every other time we came he us never in uniform. He is a veteran. Service is always great but that kinda sucked we still paid and tipped didn't make a scene. It was just rude. They should get it together because we always get his disc. I really hate to write this review, because the service from our waitress Christina was great, and the food was decent- honestly, typical diner food, hot and brown and lots of it. Being in town for the weekend, we had just finished walking around Bishop Arts and we're looking for good food. We came to Norma's because of all the solid reviews on Yelp. Walking in, the place was busy and we sat ourselves. Christina took our order and we were brought a basket of rolls and cornbread, which was nice. Our food came out at the right time. Weakest link in the meal was the runny yellow mac n cheese. At this point, I would have given the experience 3 stars overall, but then, as we were just about finished, a roach scampers across the table, one of those raisin-sized ones that screams your restaurant needs to be cleaned up. Maybe I should have said something, but I wasn't looking to Victor Victoria this place. We just quickly got up, paid our bill and left. I hope whoever's in charge here gets this place back to being clean because I'm sure I won't be the only one who gets that kind of surprise if they don't. read more

I first ate at Norma"s sometime in November 1965, they were located down the street on Davis from the present location, the food was generous, good and inexpensive then and it has not changed in 42 years. I now live in Richardson and only go back on occasion. Always a treat. read more
