My first time here I went with a friend who recommended it. The service was abysmal! We had to ask for for the same things multiple times. Simple things like honey and a side of gravy. I was not thrilled to see that they charged me separate for gravy when I ordered chicken fried steak and asked for the gravy on the side which of course was not on the side put poured all over the plate including the eggs. It didn't help that the gravy was cold and made the biscuit cold. All in all it was a terrible experience and I will never be back. read more

I came in for take out as I wanted to try them out because of strong recommendations. I was greeted right away and then asked if I would dine in or not. Once I told'em it was take out, I got the menu and after answering quite a few questions, Greg helped me order and then her associate took my order. As I was waiting for food, about four people asked me if I was being or had been assisted. I understand that it was part of their job to ensure that the overall flow of the place was good, so I appreciated it and told them. The food now... I ordered chicken fried chicken, and sides along with a slice of lemon pie. CFC was fried soft and had gravy which was just enough for the size of the chicken piece. Lemon Pie was everything that I had read and heard that it was and also that I couldn't finish even a slice so that says a lot about the serving size. So this place is really cute and eclectic! It reminds me of an old fashioned diner from the 1950's. The decor is very nice and the staff is up beat! Ate breakfast here today. Was seated promptly. Our waitress asked for our drink order the brought coffee, juice and water quickly. My wife ordered the giant cinnamon roll and a bowl of grits. I had the Denver omelette. The cinnamon roll was tough on the outside so my wife only ate the inside and the grits. Neither was spectacular. My omelette was ok although crispy on the outside and a little burned. The crispy hash browns were mushy on the inside and simply not that tasty. I ordered honey and butter with my meal but had to ask again for them when they didn't arrive initially with the meal. The waitress was less than attentive and had to be flagged down on one occasion. The coffee was so so about what you'd expect from a mediocre diner. We eat frequently at their sister restaurant in Carrollton for lunch but thought we'd try this one on Saturday for breakfast. I Will never go back to this location again! When Norma's first opened up, the food was fresh and delicious. My last visit there was right after Christmas. I ordered a biscuit, hash browns, scrambled eggs and bacon. When I tell you everything on my plate was microwaved!!!! The server told me the biscuits were freshly made and when I bit into it they were most definitely microwave tough. All the food on my plate looked like they just scraped it from a plate of leftovers!!! (I really think they did because there is no way any of it was freshly made!!). I sent the whole plate back and didn't order anything else. The manager wouldn't even come out to talk to us because I believe he knew what they did!!! The server was nice and I could tell how she reacted about my complaint about the food that she also knew this was poor poor quality. We heard about Norma's café from a friend. We decided to stop in on a Sunday mid-morning. There was about a 20 minute wait around 11:00 a.m. The place is decorated in a retro style. There is a lot of feeling of nostalgia. The booths seats are decorated with the Texas flag print... I consider that a bonus. The atmosphere is casual so you can just eat and enjoy your food with no worries. It was a little noisy....actually, a lot noisy. There were a lot of people were there. The celling is made of metal and this doesn't help with the noise. Our server was Ashley. She was nice and attentive even though they were busy. The place was clean and well maintained even in high traffic volume times. I ordered the chicken fried chicken with cream gravy, mashed potatoes, turnip greens and broccoli. My husband ordered the chicken fried steak, cream gravy, mashed potatoes, macaroni and cheese and salad. Our food came in a reasonable amount of time and was hot. The chicken fried chicken was tasty. The greens were average at best. Being from the south, greens are hard to mass produce in a restaurant style. The mashed potatoes were good. The broccoli was served firm and not over cooked. It also was served without any butter. Some people may consider this plain, but I enjoy my broccoli that way. If you want butter and salt on your broccoli you can certainly add it. We were served with a generous amount of butter with our bread rolls and corn bread. The corn bread was good, but a little on the sweet side. The bread rolls were so soft they were slightly gummy in texture, and they had a strong yeast/ beer like taste to them. I didn't care for this either, but it maybe just a matter of preference. The macaroni and cheese tasted like it was made with cheese whiz. I wasn't impressed. I also ordered a slice of coconut cream pie. I asked that they remove the meringue. I don't like meringue at all. It reminds me of calf slobber. Ashley was more than willing to remove the meringue and replace it with whipped cream. The pie had an artificial coconut flavor to it. It was mild, but it still reminded you of eating a bottle of sun tan oil. My husband got a slice of apple pie to go. I took a bite of it later that evening and it tasted like something that came from the local grocery store. There was a table next to us that was eating breakfast. It looked really appetizing. The pancakes are large and about the size of a Frisbee. I would go back to try breakfast. I would go back for lunch sometime as well, but just plan on skipping dessert. read more

I hate to have to report this because my husband and I have been fans of Norma's for years. But last Sunday we went to do a tasting of her dressing/giblet gravy plate which is a Sunday standard. I was considering buying their giblet gravy for our family Thanksgiving meal rather than making my own. The first "fail" was when I asked for extra cranberry sauce and our waitress quickly interrupted, saying they haven't had cranberry sauce "for weeks"...some lame excuse about a hard winter than killed the plants. What?? We both ordered the chicken and dressing plate plus extra giblet gravy (for our tasting). When our meal arrived, we were shocked to see the gravy poured over the dressing as well as the extra gravy was nothing more than what appeared to be Campbell's Cream of Chicken Soup and NOT A DROP of any of the giblets and chopped boiled eggs that any good Southern cook could tell you belongs in giblet gravy. The side dishes that we ordered failed similarly - a lack of seasoning as well as the smallest portions ever. Norma's needs to review what they're delivering. We waved a (figurative) sad good-bye as we walked out the door. One more point: We visited Market Street and Kroger directly after leaving Norma's and were able to buy as many cans of cranberry sauce as we wanted. Norma could have done the same thing. Who on earth wants a chicken/dressing dinner without cranberry sauce?? read more

You may judge me, but I would not expect chicken and tortilla chips and some scrambled eggs to taste (feel?) very good at all, but when our server Morgan suggested it I wanted be open-minded so I ordered it. Dude. Covered in cheddar cheese and flavored with onions, tomatoes, and pickled jalapeños, this wrecked egg hash was so tasty I almost broke my promise to share half with my husband. We Just left Norma's Cafe. May have just been an anomaly but the service was terrible. Waitress Kaitlyn seemed rushed, impatient, rude and forgetful. Parts of our order where forgotten and when we brought it to Kaitly'n's attention, she was in no hurry to remedy it. Took forever to get take-out containers--it appeared she forgot us once again. She seemed rushed and rude when we interacted with her. She never refilled our drinks and repeatedly forgot our requests. Based on other reviews this seems to be a pattern. You should have a conversation with her about her attitude, responsiveness and forgetfulness. Interestingly, the table next to us was having a similar experience. It became a joke.' We have been looking for a good breakfast place since we moved to town. We found some places but we haven't found THE place yet. We like Norma's. The service is usually great and most of the times the food has been great too. Sadly, The food has been hit and miss. Some days is is awesome and other times it has just been OK but it has never been bad. Since this location just opened we hope it is just teething pains and they need to work out some things. The biggest thing they need to work on is the temperature of the food. Each time we have been there for breakfast on the weekends the food comes to us cold. One time we sat at the counter and figured out why: The food is cooked and sits in the window for a long time before it is picked up. They have lots of food runners so it isn't staffing. This was my first time visiting Norma's Cafe since living in Frisco. I had the Mac n cheese burger and a slice of coconut cream pie. Burger was alright, bread was a little hard...maybe left under the heat lamp a little too long, fries were great. The coconut pie was delightful except for the top layer of the meringue. It felt a little chewy, left it alone. Also not enough coconut cream filling. Do want to go back and give other items a try. read more

I fell in love with their fried pork chops. I've been living in this area for 6 years and just made my way over to Norma's 2 weeks ago. I got kind of hooked for a week. I will say while the pork chops stayed consistent the sides didn't. One day the sides would be knee-slappin, the next time they'd be trash can tappin. . Then once I ordered a side of hush puppies only to receive 2 micro puppies. I'm not saying they should've been huge, but I promise they weren't bigger than a quarter and again their were only two in the container. They could've just put those in the box. Other than that like I said the pork chops and chicken fried chicken are great. The sides are okay depending on the day I guess. I'll still go back. I don't know what has taken me so long to eat here. I had the chicken fried steak, and the misses had the chicken tenders for lunch. The CFS was excellent. Usually with some restaurants CFS breading falls all apart when you I'm cutting into bite sizes. This CFS held strong and I was able to keep it all together. Success! While I did not eat the tenders, the misses said the chicken was "real" and very tasty. We have to return to try the breakfast and pies. read more

This is a cute little diner in a great part of town. I always heard about Norma's pie and had never even been yet. The food is comfort food and very filling. I don't think that I could ever finish a plate by myself, so I encourage sharing if you know that you do not eat pounds of food at a time. It was decent! I just love coming here this was our second time and we wondered why we haven't been back here more often. We had a lovely and kind server who was just fabulous! We got their buffalo chicken bites which are hand breaded and super tasty! We always have to get them. I got the chicken and dressing and the fact that you get to choose three sides is awesome! Even as inflation has escalated causing price increases across the board, Norma's remains reasonable for a home cooking type restaurant. My friends and I eat at the Frisco location often. A young server named Edwin is a real asset to the cafe and offers better customer service than many higher priced restaurants. read more
