Apparently the NORMS chain has been around since my dad was young and I can see why. I've tried a handful of their options but to me the absolute stick out is their simple Burger and Fries. I'm pretty picky when it comes to Restaurant-Style Burgers and Fries. Sometimes they underseason the meat, sometimes the fries are either cooked too much or are crappy frozen fries. However, Norms has quite possible my current favorite Restaurant Style Burger and Fries. The Burger is cooked well and there are 4 options of cheese and I like choosing their Cheddar to not overpower the burger taste. The Fries are both handcut and cooked to crisp. These are my favorite type of fries as I'm super into fries mm-mm-mmm. I just wish you could get a double burger somehow. read more

On our mini vacay, man Norms hits the spot! Wifey & I came to this Norms way before we were even married, we actually had a date night here way back when! But it's still like I remember it! Ol' skool, diner feel, nothin' fancy lookin', not apologetic...and pretty good food! Way way better than other places like it (talkin' about you IHOP & Denny's). With no frills comes some deals on some tasty food! This night the wifey decided to skip over the extensive breakfast menu and venture on to some of the Norms specials. We both ordered: -Full rack of Norms Baby Back BBQ ribs with fries & coleslaw This wasn't it though. Besides being a huge serving for each of us we got decked out at Norms, along with our already large dishes came a bowl of hearty soup (think it was Mexican Tortilla), crackers, and a mixed green salad! A boatload of food! Not to mention sauce choices! *Kentucky Bourbon Style (sweet) *Memphis Style (dry rub) *Kansas City Style (thick & tangy) *Carolina Mustard Style (spicy) Wifey got her rack of ribs in the dry Memphis style & I got mine in the Kentucky Bourbon style. But we did ask for a side of each of the other BBQ sauces. And hey, tasty! OK, so I don't think they were really made like actual BBQ for hours upon hours slow cooked with smoke. I don't recall seeing a smoke ring. But for how they are made it's not bad at all! They were tender but not too tender, and the spice was there. Lots of flavor in these ribs. Sides weren't bad either. Coleslaw had some zip, fries were hot & crispy. Salad was just salad & the soup was just OK. But who am I to complain? It just seems like what Norms would serve, no more, no less. One thing I definitely couldn't complain about? The price! All that food (we had leftovers by the way) only cost me $12.99 a person! I love Norm's...but never for the food. As a food choice, its always because of lack of options in the wee hrs. Food: eggs had a weird fake butter taste, sausage was overcooked and crinkly skinned but the bacon was good. Meh, I only came for the bacon. This location is a lot slower than the one on Beach only because of the drunk hungry people trickling out from Main St. Still...the sass levels are rival. You get 4 stars for this reason: 1) Debating over the correct definition of "salad tossing" and finding a really nice ex-con at 4 am to clarify it. I personally thought he was very sweet even though my friends thought I'd end up in a trunk. 2) Being hit on by a 70 y/o asking me for a dance had it been NY Eve. My reply? "Honey if I didn't have bacon coming my way, I'd give you a run for your money." 3) The 50 y/o Harajuku make-up'd old lady who was asleep in the booth next to us. This place had the worst service and the worst food and any place I've ever been. The food was frozen and then put on plate that was hot and the food was still cold. Who serves leftovers anywhere. When a friend of mine got he's taking that breakfast the steak was Chuck steak and was able to be cut up. I heard they're on the new management and there was a guy watching everything the waiters for doing and then would yell at them. I'll never go there again and I hope that no one else does either they need to be shut down read more

We'd never been to a Norm's before and after seeing the ads on TV for a year now and always wanting to try it, we finally made it there this morning. Well, it was busy! There was a line, so we opted for the counter. I got some breakfast which included 2 strips of bacon, 2 sausages, a slice of ham, 2 eggs, hashbrowns and 2 pancakes. I was sharing this with lil guy. Hubby got the veggie omelet. We each got a drink too. Since we were seated at the counter, I got to see everything going on in the kitchen. Although there were a few mishaps with orders (I noticed the manager dump some plates of food into the trash), the customers never really see that. Everything still worked efficiently and very soon, our orders were brought out. Our server even brought us an extra plate so I could share with lil guy (unlike IHOP or Denny's where you have to REMIND the server to actually bring an extra plate out). I thoroughly enjoyed my breakfast. For $5.99, I got a huge breakfast to share with lil guy and hubby's omelet was $7.49. Our meal came to $19 with the 3 drinks (before tip). So reasonable! Stopped in for breakfast on a Sunday morning - slight wait but I was expecting it (was told 20 minute wait but it was only 8 minutes). Table was sticky and the menus could use a good wipe down. Food was cheap for the amount you get and we all shared what we couldn't eat. Over-medium eggs were cooked to perfection and pancakes were some of the best I've had at diners. My hashbrowns were severely undercooked so I had a little bit of them but they were almost inedible. Melting pot omelet was hearty and flavorful. Worse service ever! I will never go back. Waited 15 minutes to order after being seated. Two table away people sit down and are greeted and order taken. Server Oscar doesn't apologize and says with the layout he can't see people seated. Really? As a waiter you don't walk around your assigned tables. Then cops an attitude. Says you can order or walk out. I asked to speak with a manger. He says you can call in the morning there is no manager on duty. I suspect that's why the service is terrible. read more

So disappointed. Had fond memories of Norms in LA as a teenager, so when I saw the Norms sign we decided to go for breakfast. How sad, I should have left the memories where they belonged. The country fried steak was very good, but from there the food when down hill. The eggs were ok, the fruit not ripe, the pancakes flavorless, as were the waffles. The waiter was a bright spot. He was fast and accurate. I was upset that the bathrooms had to be locked and only open with a combination. It took a while to find someone who knew the right combination. The first person gave me wrong combination and I had to search the whole restaurant to find someone else. read more

It's not what my pre race dinner setting typically would look like, but I was here with 3 friends on the eve of the 2018 Surf City marathon / half marathon event here in SoCal. It wasn't my suggestion, being that I'm not from the area. To be honest, I felt like this place is like a IHOP or a glorified Denny's, but it works well, since they do breakfast all day and that really was good for me, especially with pancakes and hash browns along with eggs and stuff. We had been offered a booth next to the window, but moved to the one where it was basically a half circle type booth, so we can spread out more and have more space. We got here around 3:30pm and it was basically late lunch early dinner type of situation. This NORMS restaurant is located at 2150 Harbor Blvd in Costa Mesa, CA. They accept major credit cards, which is always a good thing for y'all who only carry plastic around. - like me too. They actually have private parking options for anyone who is dining here, which is cool and definitely a perk. Not sure if there is public transport options to here, but Uber and lyft are always there for you, if you need them. For the most part though, the experience here at NORMA was uneventful. It was nice to spend time with friends who I haven't seen in a while. I ultimately ordered the New York steak, which came with hash browns and pancakes. I think eggs were in the mix as well, but all this nutrition and carbs were to fuel my 13.1 mile endeavor on foot the next morning. It was one of those things where food is enjoyable when you want it to be. The food was good yet okay at the same time, while the service is good and friendly as well. As mentioned before, this place is okay yet good at the same time. You get the same vibe and ambiance wherever you go, whether it be at Denny's or even IHOPs, to name a few. I did enjoy the casual and quiet ambiance though. It helps to talk to friends without it being loud for any reason or another. The steak was Coke medium rare and I enjoyed that very much. The hash browns were crispy, with Tabasco, it completed the meal with a hearty handshake. The restaurant itself was clean and a pleasure to be in. While this place is a typical eatery, I can say that that my experience was good and also average too. It's good for what it does and serves, but it is average. The service may get slow but the servers are always super sweet and accomodating whenever you need something. Our breakfast was below average...poached eggs (yokes) were purple/grey and hard(er) than soft boiled eggs! I ordered an extra egg and they forget to include it with my order.
