Stopped by for dinner, ended up getting breakfast. Overall a good experience, went in around 630pm and it wasn't terribly busy like it always is. Host and server were very nice and helpful. The had set coloring maps for the kids. The food was on point. What more could we ask for. A good experience was had, and I liked the fun and relaxed atmosphere.

I have not been to Norms in like 10 years and I was pleasantly surprised. The buffalo chicken skillet was delicious. A very generous portion and a lot of flavor. The pancakes on the side were insanely good. Their pancakes have the perfect amount crispy on the outside to soft on the inside. You don't even need syrup, just the pancake with the butter alone is life altering. They have a bunch of fun stuff on the menu especially for their seasonal stuff. I'm very impressed. I think they're way ahead of Dennys and changed my perception of Norms from 10 years ago. I will say my friend got a meal with burnt ends, ribs, and wings and he did not like it at all and said the meats all tasted cheap. But hey im grading this as a breakfast place cause who orders that at Norms. Come here for the hashbrowns, eggs and pancakes. I have been back once and I'll be back again.

Friday night at Norms and it was a win. Waited about 10 minutes, got seated, and the hostess and server welcomed us with big smiles. Service was quick, the breakfast sandwich was loaded with meat on a soft bun, the tots were crispy, and the pancakes were fluffy and huge. The coffee came out piping hot too. My only gripe is charging $2 extra for veggies on the sandwich--that should've been included. Other than that, I'd definitely be back!

Norms is a late night diner staple. Open 24/7, it's always busy but they always have room for everyone who walks through their doors. Mornings and holidays are when it's most packed. The employees hustle and bustle to get the food out in a timely manner. You never have to worry about waiting for the check as it's always dropped off at your table for you to pay at the front counter whenever you're ready. The menu is your standard diner fare, with breakfast being the most filling. They have lots of booths and tables for every configuration if you're coming with a group. The interior is as clean as could be, and the restrooms require codes to access. Overall Norms is pretty aces when it comes to diners. It's a good place to unwind and catch up, have a family meal, grab a quick bite with friends, share a milkshake with your sweetie, or have a nice cup of Joe (their Colombian coffee is strong!). Norms is not high class, but it's dependably decent any day and any time.

2026/02/07 update: Today was a good day to come here for lunch, I was expecting the wait to be long but when I walked in, I was pleasantly surprised to see no wait, I got seated immediately. My friend treated me to lunch here for my birthday. Their menu changed from 2 months ago. I was kinda looking forward to a T-bone steak trio but they changed it to a NY Steak Trio. It was good and filling, but I still prefer the T-bone steak trio. The service was friendly and professional and attentive. They checked in with us a couple of times to see if we need anything.

Can't say enough good things about this place. The food is always delicious. Portions are huge. I can come here anytime and enjoy trying out all their delicious foods. Service was great. We love it. It was so fast so very ideal if you were hungry. Lastly I noticed the updated retro decor of the entire interior space of the restaurant. I love the feeling and nostalgia it is trying to impart to its customers. We will definitely come here more often.

Norms will forever feel like home to me. I've been coming to this location for as long as I can remember. I especially love the feel & look inside during the holiday season. It could get busy during lunch or dinner hours but usually won't wait over 30 minutes. My parents eat there weekly. Recently I joined them on one of their lunch dates. Got a big & delicious breakfast. Food was good, service was good. Food came out pretty quick also.

4.5 Stars It was our first time at this location! I've been to the one in West Hollywood a couple of times, and while that one has a roomier entrance and easier parking layout, this spot still had plenty of charm. The parking area here felt a bit more congested, especially getting in, but once inside the experience made up for it. We went on a Friday night, so there was a bit of a wait. I was told 15-20 minutes but was pleasantly surprised--it ended up being only about 8 minutes. The host was friendly and welcoming. Our family of three was seated in a cozy booth, and I really liked how the layout creates smaller, more intimate sections--it gives it that classic, old-school diner feel. Our server, Ms Kristina was amazing (just like so many other reviews have said). She was warm, engaging, and attentive without being overbearing. Great customer service--she checked in on us several times throughout the meal. The food came out hot and fresh. The onion rings were a bit crispier than I prefer, but everything else was on point. The fried fish was basic but perfectly cooked--light, golden, and crispy. I added some freshly chopped onions and pickles to give it a little extra flavor, and it was perfect. It's definitely a nostalgic, old-school spot with a relaxed, friendly vibe. The floors had a few crumbs when we first walked in, but I noticed a staff member sweeping not long after we were seated, which was appreciated. Overall, great food, great service, and that classic diner comfort I love. We'll definitely be back!

As always, the Van Nuys Norms is just great. The food is definitely the better of other norms, and my steak was perfectly cooked, and the eggs always fluffy, (great coffee too). Kristina (with a K) is so amicable and makes just coming here even for a single cup of coffee worth it. Shes always so attentive and makes you feel at home, always checking in frequently and with a smile. The ambience is classic American diner, and the sound of plates and people chatting always makes it feel at home, making sure I'll always be a loyal customer.

Norms is great, and the service is greater! Our waiter Pedro was on point. Diner was COMPLETELY full with a wait too and he came to check on us, refill coffee/water, and even after the check he kept the service up!! GO PEDRO!!! It's what you can expect from a diner breakfast, but the Buffalo chicken skillet was surprisingly good!! There was crispy chicken as promised and it was very flavorful. French toast was honestly a little disappointing, but the pancakes were great :)

I've been to Norms a lot and it's most always good . Today was very good. The porterhouse was the best steak I've gotten at any norms the server was fast and attentive and the place was very clean and in good shape . I've been borderline with norms but now ima be back Fosho . I tried the chilaquiles too and they are very straightforward and give you that flavor you want . First of all the front desk is not helpful no wonder you have 3 stars. The wait is so long and the servers does not even apologize for the wait. Unfortunately since this is thr only Norms in the valley? The customer service is below par. I dont recommend to come here when you are real hungry. Please try to train your people to be kind. read more

Kristina was absolutely wonderful, such a nice way to end the night. She served on Christmas Eve, and even though it was busy, she didn't fail to be attentive and timely with our food, very comfortable to be around her lovely energy. We typically go to Dennys, and decided to try norms, aandddd absolutely worth it. Food is pretty good and prices are great for the amount. First visit 10/10 experience considering the very busy date. read more

I go often to this place for breakfast. But today had specially a good experience with the server KRISTINA Her attitude was great!!! Very friendly and just overall very nice. Ick. Look, I eat everywhere and love midcentury style coffee shops. The Norm's on La Cienega is just nifty by me. Just had lunch at Pann's last week ( recommended ). But this one's scary. The nabe's dicey for one thing, and that's coming from someone who goes everywhere in LA and loves it. The place is completely packed and you might have to wait a bit to get a table, but that's okay. The food's just awful. That's coming from someone who eats almost everything anywhere ( those that follow me on Yelp know that to be true ). Oh, something may happen and I'll be back, but I hope not. read more

OMG!! Shania Twain made a video here, but Tina Turner song "Simply the Best" would be the perfect description of Norms! The food was amazing, as in Best EVER! The service from Kristina was also the BEST EVER!!!! I've been to other locations and this one has been the worst thus far. The wait was to be expected on a Sunday afternoon so I didn't mind waiting, but the food was so bad. I ordered a bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich and it was so dry. They didn't make the eggs how I wanted them. I ordered tator tots on the side and they tasted old and dry. The waitress was nice but seemed like she was in a rush because of how busy it was. You're better off going to dennys or something. read more

I always wonder how good this Norms is because it's like a diner, old time restaurant style with cheap food, cheap steak. Now that we both retired so it's time to explore and experience new places, tours, journeys, cruises and restaurants, We walked in at 5:30 pm for the 20% off senior discount from 7-9am and 2-6pm. My husband loves to eat steak, he's a meat lover type. He ordered Porterhouse steak (21.99), mine was New York steak (18.99). They come with soup, salad, potato and veggies. It was delightful dinner and pleasantly surprised for gumbo soup, soft, tender and juicy medium rare steak for his and mine. Selena, our server helped make our adventure complete with her attentive, diligent work, refilled cold brew coffee to go home with, we appreciated. I would recommend this place to anyone in no time. Don't judge the book by its cover. For a long standing reputation over 70 years, it proves through time, thick and thin that they still maintain healthy images and recognitions. read more

It was my first time at Norms and I was absolutely surprised. There are like no foods available past 10pm in the valley so I'm so happy this place is open late. The staff were all so friendly and food was delicious! FYI This is not a place you come to eat healthy food. However, If you are looking for a late night eats in the valley Norms will hit the spot! This restaurant is a local icon. You really get a lot of good food for reasonable prices. Very extensive menu. There aren't many restaurants that give you soup and salad before the dinner menu. If I still lived in the valley I would be eating here often. I wish there was a Norm's in Lancaster CA. The Norm's on Colorado Blvd. is great also. read more

Last Friday I went to the Van Nuys Norms with my son. It was a Lenten Fish and Chips special until 11pm. We got there at 7:10 pm. Put my name on the list for a wait of "just a few minutes." At 8pm someone finally got around to us. We were the last people called. They seemed to have kept "accidentally" skipping over us. They finally found us seating. The waitress was slammed. It took just under 10 minutes to get to us. Not her fault. We ordered the fish and chips. "We JUST sold out." She suggested the not on any special salmon at twice the price. We said sorry, no and left. Not before explaining what happened to the manager when he tried to make us pay. He thought it was pretty funny. I assume that's why he laughed. I guess I didn't look nice enough for his restaurant. If he didn't like my thick waist or lack of makeup he should have refused us service when we got there instead of making us spend an hour waiting for his bait and switch. read more

NORMS is the place to go! Much better diner than Denny's. Great food and great prices! It's always packed but the service is real fast and efficient. The staff is very attentive and friendly too. Plate portions are huge, the gumbo soup is a must have but also everything else such as steak dinners and burgers. Breakfast is served all day and don't forget to save room for dessert and try their NY cheesecake. read more

Food and staff needs to improve alot!!!! We have been to this norms plenty of times but the last 2 times we been there the server gets out orders wrong, the pancake had a piece of paper inside which my husband actually chew on. The side of fries where cold and it looked like it was kids portion. Not only that but our food was a bit cold too.. I wouldn't recommend unless they step up their food amd staff read more

The service is great, and the waitress is wonderful! I ordered a hamburger, they gave me a double hamburger with 2 Costco style frozen patties,, and it was terrible. They used to have thick wonderful burgers at norms. The waitress told me that they changed because it was too expensive to sell it the other way ! What a cop out ! Norms keeps going downhill and downhill, those new owners - greedy & cheap ! Sorry, I normally don't cuss, but it really pissed me off that that happened ! I will still return to norms to eat, but I will definitely not order the hamburger. I order the New York steak after the hamburger thing, and it was actually 80% alright . Been coming here since I was a kid, never again. A waiter Raphael has been working there for 20+ years refused to give me the right change on an order they messed up on. Even when I corrected him, he just gave me his best guestimate instead of following what was on the receipt shorting me a few bucks. Completely dishonest and unprofessional. Called back to speak with the manager and Raphael came back on the line. No wonder this place is so awful, lacks leadership. Avoid this location if at all possible. read more

I have never ate at a Norms before and my friend mentioned it to me so I was like what the heck lets finally try it. Its basically like a dennys, with breakfast and steak options and pancakes!! Our server was Kristina with a K, and she was the nicest and cutest lady. She offered us the porter ranch steak which was very juicy and flavorful. So, If you wanna stop by for a quick and cheap meal and be served by the nicest lady ever, then this place is for you:) read more

I can't remember the last time I went to Norms but we were here to celebrate their Anniversary a few weeks ago. We had an amazing experience. The wait was not as horrible as I thought it would be. They were very organized and had so many people working that day. From several people to greet you at the door to hostess to cooks to everything. We were seated within 5 mins or so. The food came out so quick. The scramble eggs were so good that my niece ate most of it. I loved their buttery, airy and soft pancakes drizzled with syrup. I seriously can't stop thinking about their pancakes. The best part was I only paid $1.40 for 2 plates with 2 eggs, 2 bacons and 3 pancakes. Happy 70th Anniversay Norms! read more

Had a casual dinner with my family at this location at around 7 o'clock and it was surprisingly not too busy so we immediately were able to get seated, thanks to Tom. We sat at a table near the front and were greated by our server Kristina who is so nice! She got us our drinks right away, took our orders, and everything came out as we expected. She brought us condiments and checked in on us and also gave my brother a refill on his iced tea. Our visit to Norm's today was great because of the food and friendly service as always. read more

We were warmly greeted by Erick--the host, standing by the podium and right away he got us a seat inside. After like 5 minutes, Elsa, our server approached us to take our order. My friend and I both felt like we were being rushed through our meal. Food came out hot and quick. We opted for a few of their dishes. Tacos Mananeros, came with 4 tacos ($18.95), with 4 complimentary sauces. 2 of the sauces were very spicy and Elsa didn't warn us. We also got the Veggie Omelette with tomatoes, onions, spinach, mushrooms, Jack cheese, topped with avocado and a side order of hash browns. They made the hash browns perfectly. Told her nice and crispy on the top and that's what we got. (18.95). We also shared their French Toast topped with Strawberry, Blueberries, and Blackberries. ($16.95) topped with lots of Whipped Cream (which I love) and a side of syrup. We needed to add more syrup to make the French Toast more moist. The French Toast was a bit dry for our liking. Even the people sitting next to us who ordered the same thing were saying the same. On the flip side, the other 2 dishes tasted fresh and delicious. Great portions for the prices. We also got this drink called Powerful from their smoothies section of the menu. It was called Green Smoothie. Ingredients were the following: blueberries, honey, Greek Vanilla yogurt, avocado and Almond milk. It was simply very refreshing and delicious. My friend wanted some sort of Latte, Espresso, Americano, etc..but they didn't have any of those drinks. All they had was regular & decaf coffee. At first, I asked for Cranberry juice, and Jose, said they only had Apple and Orange juice. We found it a bit odd not to have any of those drinks. Going back to our server Elsa, she was a bit aloof and forgetful. I asked for a bowl of fruit, and it never made it to our table. After we were done eating, I asked for two to-go boxes and a bag, she forgot that too. We had to ask the other employees to get them for us. The same with to-go containers for our sauces. She forgot to bring napkins too. Jose, (our busboy), needs a raise and promotion! This young man read all the ingredients on the Taco menu which came with: bacon & egg, chorizo with potato & eggs, machaka/eggs, & nopaitos/eggs. The writing in their menu was very small. Another server by the name of Angel, truly was an angel. Checked on us while Elsa was taking orders over the phone. They have another location in Monrovia, a gender neutral restroom, place was very clean. Inside was small. It had 10 tables and nice couches with cozy, inspirational decor and pillows. For some reason, anytime I walk into a diner, they always come ready with an understaffed excuse. "Our head cook is not here" or "3 waiters didn't show up". It's getting old guys. Originally we came here for coffee, and some deserts. We walk in, not that many people. Half the place is closed off. Whatever, we wait to be seated. Can't say we waited LONG, but still longer than we should have. We got seated at a table that wasn't even clean yet. We got the "not enough waiters excuse" whatever, we were ok with it. The lady seemed nice, which is probably why they got 3 stars and not 2. So we order the food, some club sandwich and French toast, coffee for my buddy and hot chocolate for me. The hot chocolate and club sandwich where pretty good. The fries where soggy (to a point where I just ate one and then spit it into my napkin) and the French toast was stale... The food took a long time to come, by long I mean I saw it on the counter sitting for 3 minutes before it was brought over. Which probably explains the stale fries. Over all, gave them 3 stars, looks like norms is in the neighborhood and it's open late, so it'll stay at 3 stars until we visit again, and we will visit again. hopefully then they won't be "understaffed" read more

I went to get breakfast for first time to this place with my family to see the if they have different menu or different taste I am tired to been in dennys IHOP look like they have bad reviews but I am taking the time to write my experience in this place with my family first I wait to much to get table n them to get the food so I ordered new York steak but they have to 2 types off steak so I ordered the big one n went I got the small one so I ate that one because I didn't want to wait for the right order I know everyone make mistake so for this time I will say the food was ok but the potatoe look was not cook n off if was not like I was expecting but I will give them 3 stars because the pancakes was different taste than others places. So the services was ok the lady was nice keep asking if everything was ok, but she look like she was to busy I will not say nothing about that because she was not only for us she was in charge in many orders. I want to say that my experience at the restaurant was truly spectacular. My family and I are from San Francisco, and I can't believe how welcoming and helpful the staff can be toward guests. Everyone is very helpful and shows us how well they work together--for example, as soon as you finish your soup and salad, someone clears the plates to bring out the main courses, keeping everything clean and organized. It's amazing how efficient they are. As for the food, I can't say enough--everything was absolutely amazing. I couldn't resist the desserts, and I have to say my favorite is the strawberry cheesecake. I also want to thank my server, Danitza, who was always very kind and attentive to our table. I understand that they have a lot of tables to manage, so I'd like to ask everyone to be patient with the staff as well. Well let me start of by saying that i have been to this place more than a few times and the only thing i love about this place is their Gumbo soup and the fact that they have Pepsi. The cooks can never get anything right, no matter what i order, if i order an omelet or of i order a steak, and you think it's not that hard right. All the servers with the exception of two Nancy and Teresa are horrible if those two girls are not there i would rather not eat there. My first complaint is that when i order FRESH pancakes, they always pop them in the microwave... why? stop it... if i wanted microwaved pancakes i would go to Albertsons buy me a pack of frozen pancakes and just eat at home. Norma's Restaurant in Van Nuys is hands down one of the best spots for classic comfort food done right. This place is great at all times of the day, but I'm especially a fan of the fact that it is open 24 hours a day. I used to go there all the time when I was in college and have a great dinner at 3am after studying for so many hours. It's a classic diner that kind of reminds you of Dennys, except that the food is better than mediocre and really tasty. They have so many different types of food selections so you can never say they don't have something you would like to eat. The ambiance is casual and very family friendly. On the weekends they are always busy and you may have to wait a bit for a table but once you get seated, it's a very comfortable place to eat and relax. Although I'm not in college anymore I still come here to enjoy the food with my family and daughter and probably always will. I just want to start of by saying that I have been coming to this restaurant for a couple of years now and for the first time ever there was a server who got my order right. Her name was Natalie. My mother is disabled and usually people ignore her there but Natalie made sure everything was right and that we were comfortable. My steak was really dry but she had it remade and made sure she smiled the whole time. I did have a complain about how many people were actually working and doing stuff. Most of them seemed to be lallygagging and just talking. Natalie and a couple of other serves were busy and moving but still. I also noticed that some of the waiters were shouting very loud. Overall I'm giving it a five star just because of Natalie. Hire more people like her and maybe this dump of a place will be better. Came here one night and it was packed but we were really hungry and IHOP was closed and Denny's just never does it for me. I was at a friend's house in NoHo when she suggested we should go out to eat. We drove around and she spotted Norm's. I had never been here but I was excited to try it out because I always love new finds. We walk in and there was a huge line but my friend insisted that we stay because their food is good. After waiting half an hour we got seated. Kristina is amazing! She's super friendly, full of "karisma", and always brings such a great attitude. She actually takes the time to have real conversations, which makes the whole experience feel more personal and welcoming. She truly brings a light to waitressing. The restaurant itself has great vibes--even during those busy, stressful times, the energy stays positive and the service never slips. That consistency really stands out. Norms is a fantastic place to go enjoy a meal and family time. My daughter goes there several times a month and brings us back food. I have been there several times and enjoy their hospitality, good food and prices. If I was to give the owner suggestions on how to please their customers more, I would ask the owner to consider expanding the inside, so that we can sit more comfortably. There's a bid parking lot of wasted space, while we sit uncomfortably inside. I am handicap and always go there with a big crowd. There are only two places the can put my wheel chair. Yes... Yes... I'll admit the place is very popular, gives lots of food at very reasonable prices, and their breakfasts can't be beat. BUT -- We went for dinner. It was extremely noisy and difficult to have a conversation. The caesar salad was chopped lettuce with a large glop of dressing piled on top. Ugh. The T-bone steak was ordered rare and served medium and sent back. Then served rare but was very chewy. Supposedly one of their specialties. Sliced tomatoes ordered, corn delivered. usually this place is great. tonight I show up with two buddies and I spot the best waitress of all time. well she was on a bad one. looked like she had been up for days doing dope. the attitude she was putting out was effecting everyone around her. she took our order about 40 mins after we sat down. when we eventually got.our food it was cold.. We had a wonderful dining experience, and a big part of that was thanks to our amazing waitress, Kristina. From the moment we sat down, she was incredibly kind, warm, and genuinely attentive. She made sure we were comfortable, checked in at all the right times without being intrusive, and made great recommendations with a smile. A friend of mine took me here to norms a few months ago. I had not been here since I was a kid. When he suggested norms thought to myself, really? Norms. Thinking like most that had not eaten there, that there food is just very low quality. Well I was very surprised as you would be that the food was. Sooooo good for a family diner and the prices were extremely responsible. I used to go to corkys on van nuys blvd for years but stopped going because of all the turn over in staff and very low quality of their food like canned hash and frozen vegetables.. Giving 5 stars on the sole service. It's Norms, you're not getting gourmet food, but the service in this location is amazing. We went in to celebrate my son's culmination, and Kristina (our server) made our visit extremely pleasant. Her amazing attention to her customers and her exemplary attitude makes this location stand out; not to mention her amazing style. She makes her own jewelry made out of the Norms cups. The good news? It's steps away from my house. The bad news? It's steps away from my house. The food is what I imagine food is like in the penitentiary or jail. I've gotten various items at different times of day. It's just always either bad or barely tolerable. Speaking of crime, this is what you can expect to deal with in the parking lot as you go to and from your car; prostitutes servicing truckers/patrons, underage partiers drinking and smoking pot then throwing their empties over the fence into neighbors yards, drug dealing, homeless people. Been going to Norms for many years. But today I would like to write a review. Norms has always been my to go place. The staff is very friendly and looks like they enjoy what they do. We sat with Maria at the counter on Sunday. She was extremely busy but she was able to get our order fast and correct. Maria seems to enjoy her job because she always has a smile and goes out of her way to make us feel welcomed. The food is always fresh and the price is reasonable. I was pleasantly surprised of how good it was. Basically it's a smaller version of Soup Plantation but I think much better than Red Lobster and other chains. The shrimp at Sizzled is actually better than Red Lobster, they just have the cheddar biscuits. This location works by you place your order at the counter and then opt to add salad bar or not. The salad bar is only $12 so it's a really fair deal and it comes with all sorts of options as well as tacos and a dessert station. For my meal I ordered the New York steak and thought it was pretty good. It's not like a premium steakhouse, but it does taste like a really decent steak that you would purchase at the grocery store and cook yourself. It was not too fatty and I really enjoyed it. It is a bit expensive compared to the average lunch and is a lot of food so I would not suggest it for an everyday meal, but I definitely will give Sizzler another chance again in the future and would suggest to others looking for a good mini buffet option. The service was also very polite and they were very attentive with a drink refills. This location is quite large and has many different sized tables so it can host many different sized groups. There is also a large free parking lot attached so finding a parking space is very easy.

It looks exactly how I remembered it looked 30 years ago in a different state. They are all comfortably the same. There is a huge parking lot, so you do not have to worry about parking which is nice because there is not much parking anywhere else in the area. it opens at 11am. if you are going to go before too many people meander through the salad bar, that is probably the best time.

Crispy on the outside, flavorful throughout, and not greasy in the slightest. I'd happily order it again. The pancakes were... pancakes. They fulfilled their contractual obligation to be pancakes and nothing more. They simply had no aspirations beyond that. The Fisherman's Platter was another pleasant surprise. The fish was crispy without being greasy, the shrimp were cooked well, and everything arrived hot.
