We today dad ended his fast at his favorite diner, hoping for fresh hot biscuits and gravy......only problem is they ran out of gravy, sad old man face. He pouted for a minute and then got eggs and bakey instead. I always get the soup. It warms my heart especially with a shot of tobasco in it. The shakes and burgers are great. So this review is 3.5 stars for the food and four stars for the service. I tried to go on Sunday to order take-out but they are so popular on the weekend, it takes a feat to place a take-out order. It took me four tries to get someone to answer the phone but sadly I was put on hold for 20 minutes and by that time I arrived at Norms and went inside to place my order (so I dropped the call). To further the challenge, the wait for a take-out order was going to take another 60 minutes plus so I gave up and went the next day. I recognize Norms on the weekends is very popular so I ignored the challenges. On the Monday, they picked up my call quickly, took my order and it was ready in 15 minutes. The young lady who at the counter was nice and friendly. We ordered two meals from the Norms Classic Meal list. We had the Country Fried Steak which came with the steak and gravy, a side salad, soup and a side dish, we had tots on one and veggies with the other. We also had an order of Onion Rings. The Country Fried Steak was pan fried and topped with a nice white gravy, veggies were cooked just right, Tots were fried golden brown and the same for the onion rings. Basically good comfort food that was not greasy. Very good value for the price, you definitely don't walk away hungry. This will be my late night comfort restaurant for sit down or take-out. read more

Tonight we received excellent service from Kristina. She was very attentive and super friendly, you would think you were outside of California. Our family comes to Norma whenever we're in the mood for pancakes, steak, and diner food. The prices are always fair considering the quality of the food and service. My regular order is their pancakes which are among the best in Los Angeles. The porterhouse steak and eggs is an excellent value at around $22 including two pancakes. Highly recommend Norms... I am a regular. I go here about once a month. They know my order. Today I showed up after work and sat at the counter for ten minutes. People would walk by and glance at me, but didn't say anything. I had to flag down the host to see who my waiter was. She hardly said anything and pointed to a guy in the back. It was so weird in there that I thought for second I wasn't wearing pants. I waited two more minutes. My waiter passed by me without saying anything, so I left. I can't recall ever being ignored like that. read more

I sat at the bar on Monday Aug 18th, service was quick and the server was very attentive. However, I couldn't help but notice the unprofessionalism & disrespect from what looked like the head chef, to his fellow coworkers. It was extremely unpleasant to hear the way he was treating his employees all while customers (myself included), were trying to enjoy our meal. The most upsetting part of it all is that NORMS is supposed be a dinner with family friendly environment. That behavior is the last thing a family would like to hear as they enjoy their meals. He's not up to part to carry that role if he's simply going to be rude to his coworkers,hopefully management does something.Matter of time someone takes it to HR or corporate. read more

The owner calls tow trucks for people parked against the far wall because he so badly wants to get rid of the sidewalk food vendors who are not impeding on his business. With the current quality (or lack thereof) of the food and service at this Norm's, he should focus more on improving his own business and less on parking spots he could never fill. This has been one of our favorite places to eat since 3 decades. Some of the employees have been working here forever. It's always packed & long wait list. They offer a variety of food. The food is delicious. Today we got chicken noodle soup, chicken adobado, fish strips, strawberry shortcake, chocolate fudge sundae. All perfect! Our server Pablo was super awesome he was so friendly and helpful. Great customer service. Definitely recommend and for sure we'll be back. The food was not as good as I expected, but it was all right. My omelette was small, but the pancakes were really good. The service was nice, but always busy you would have to look for help. Brunch with niece before returning to work and school. The good thing about this place is the menu. Everything available at anytime as they are a 24 hour establishment. I was in the mood for breakfast while niece was up for dinner at lunchtime. There was no lunchtime rush or crowds. Waiters sit you down as you arrive or you have to write your own name on the waiting list. Food is like a cafe more than a restaurant. Plenty of food & portions served for each meal. Service depends in the area you are seated. Slower service in the back. Faster service if you sit at the counter or front tables at the entrance. Noise level is louder than most places and the cleaning of the tables are as expected as they don't close for deep cleaning. read more
