The food is actually surprisingly great from everything I've had here from the breakfasts to there (gumbo) oddly a favorite of mine having first tried it here. I found myself having to order this as a starter every time I've visited. Usually any 24 hour food establishment during late hours particularly I've rarely experienced good service/attitudes from servers /employees, but I can definitely say that it's not the case with this restaurant regardless of the server I had was always SUPER attentive, busy or not! Always asking and checking if I needed coffee refills and if everything is good/ if there's anything else I possibly needed! The interior isn't anything spectacular it's just a normal dinner vibe but they do seem to keep everything clean and tidy here. Honestly can't say anything negative and I've had quite a few items off their menu the times I've went. Even though we have a penchant for hoity-toity California cuisine / new American brunches, every now and then we want a good basic diner breakfast, and that brought us to Norms on a very busy Saturday morning. We were seated fairly quickly despite the fact that the restaurant was super busy and filled with Van Nuys locals. We had basic breakfast stuff done absolutely the way it should've been done. I had two eggs and French toast. I had them make the eggs with egg whites, and they were scrambled perfectly and especially tasty with the cheese and onions I had them add. The French toast was also perfect. I also had a side of hashbrowns. They looked dry but they actually tasted great. Crispy on the outside and cooked all the way through, nice soft potatoes on the inside. The coffee was OK. Definitely better than the thin "brown water" I've had at some American restaurants where they really don't know what they're doing in terms of coffee, but this definitely could have been stronger. I love a good strong cup of coffee and I'm always a little bit disappointed when I'm brought coffee at a breakfast restaurant that doesn't give me a nice bold punch in the face at my first sip. (To be fair it did taste a little better after having some of the sweetness of the French toast and syrup taste in my mouth...Ahh chemistry what can't you fix?) We would definitely come again when in the mood for a basic breakfast. You definitely get the feeling that you're in a classic, old-school valley diner when you're at Norms. read more

Ordered through uber eats. Didn't want to cook because it was over 100 degress today. Decided on burgers because they're easy and basic burgers are hard to screw up.....unless Norms makes them. Both burgers (all 4 patties) UNDERCOOKED! Fries were disgusting. I asked for condiments. Got only 1 pack ketchup. No napkins. Ended up having to cook after all. Norms has been one of our go-to places back when I was still doing late night shifts. My friend and I last visited this place 2 years ago and today I could say that they still serve great food with a variety of menu items from soups and salads to steaks and desserts. The service was kinda slow, but I guess it may be because they lack crew members. Although, you can tell that they are trying their best to help you as fast as they can. I love that they are all still friendly even when they're super busy - these people deserve recognition (and tips!). Food is affordable. Per person, you have the option to spend less than $10 bucks for a decent meal. Definitely worth a try! read more

This Norm's location has been here FOREVER! It is a Valley/local favorite. I've done both outdoor dining and to-go orders due to the pandemic. Both experiences were great, and I felt safe. The staff makes sure to wear masks and face shields for added safety measure. The staff is super upbeat and friendly, despite the times we find ourselves living in. Great customer service al around. The deals are absolutely the best around. They always have their deals going - an unexpected surprise since we're in this pandemic. Highly recommend it. Support local! I'm surprised this Norms doesn't have more stars. This location is great guys. I got the veggie omelette, hash browns and pancakes. Everything tastes fresh and homemade. Not like a cardboard pancake and hash browns without any potatoes. The omelette came with fresh salsa that was just the right amount of spicy. I got a rare sirloin steak and just tasted that much better because this sweet woman did everything and beyond to make me feel like I could kick my feet up and relax as if I was at home. We had dinner last nite at this Norms location in Van Nuys on Sherman Way. We went specifically to have the fish and chips Friday only special. We were both looking forward to this meal. Buy one get one free with there APP. Sorry to say we were both very disappointed with the fish... it was under cooked, watery and chewy! We have had this same fish dinner many times before and it was good. Not sure what happened with this order as it was terrible! Neither of us ate but a couple bites! The other soup, salad, tator tots and desert were good thank goodness! We won't order this again. We noticed the older couple sitting next to us had ordered the exact same meal. This is the second time in two days that I threw the gumbo soup away. It was so watered down, that there was almost a clear broth to it. You needed a straw to even eat it. There was no sausage or even rice in it. There were a few small diced pieces of celery in it. No spoon or crackers included. It never used to be like this. We used to eat there every night starting in 2003 when we moved here but the food has gone down so bad. I used to order the noodles every day but they tasted hard, stuck together, couldn't eveñ chew them. Maybe the seniors only go there for the companionship and to talk to the servers, because it's sure not for the food.
