I grew up going to this norms but it's quality has gone down over the years. The staff were nice. I ordered two shakes and one patty melt and one monte cristo. I thought since they were simple dishes it would come out well. That was not the case. The shakes were mediocre and too sweet for my taste. The patty melt was one note and very oily. I added grilled onions to the patty melt but they used red onions. The red onions were unexpected and burnt not grilled. The monte cristo was very plain. The service was good the food just wasn't. Whoever is managing this restaurant in Sherman Oaks deserves a raise. I was so impressed by the manner in which patrons were serviced and served during a very busy window of time on this Saturday morning. Our server, Cynthia, was excellent. She was warm, friendly, polite and attentive. Our pancakes were hot and fresh. Our eggs, potatoes and sausages were prepared well. Our take-away order of baby back ribs was delectable the next day. My server was new and wonderful. I've been in the food and beverage industry for over 40 years. This gentlemen was point on. Exceptional. The manager Carlos was hands-on. Working right along with all the employees. Calm, energetic going above and beyond. He approached tables with genuine care as to how your experience is going. He ran for little things like napkins and ketchup. Nothing was below him. Believe you me I have seen alot of hi end restaurant s that I have personally worked at and the managers there only go out if their way if there if you grease their palms. I've been a long time customer since 1985. Not once I have been disappointed with their food or service . Unfortunately my visit on 12/22/23 was horrible and more than likely I won't be returning. It started with the order I placed to go which is simple enough that a blind person can make it. I ordered the California omelette with no onions. Simple enough right ? Boy was I wrong they added onions and green peppers.. WTF ? I wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt. But after 2 bites I couldn't enjoy it. Terrible. We ordered a breakfast steak and eggs and country fried steak and it was a horrific. I ordered my steak medium and it came rare. The country fried steak was bland and hard to chew with both of the hash browns burnt. This was a terrible choice because when we ordered it over the phone they placed it and once we got there they didn't even place our order in the system and only written on the book with other orders. I haven't been to Norm's in years. Sunday's visit was due to my friend's craving for pancakes. It was jam-packed, but we put our name on the list, and got seated within 10 minutes. We got the pancakes with scrambled eggs, and sausage. Pretty basic, and decent breakfast, and we didn't have to wait too long to eat. I appreciate my friend, for treating me to a hearty meal before a long day of work. He's the best! read more

I have never waited 1 hour for breakfast before... our server tried to accommodate us.. she was sweet and tried to make up for her counterpart who took our order and placed his in front of ours. At least 3 or 4 parties who came after us was served before we were. I have never in my life ever been exposed to such service! Who does that?!?!?! We were passing by on the way home and being that I've never eaten at a Norms before, we wanted to try it out. Tuesday, 7/11/23, my friend and I went to the Norms on Sherman Way and Woodman around 11am. First thing I noticed was that the restaurant wasn't all that clean. Once we were seated, the server,  Jessica, didn't seem to listen to us. My friend, who happens to have a disability, was mostly ignored. She was trying to explain she had a sesame seed/ sesame oil allergy to which the server left to "investigate" as she told us, even though we watched her go around to other tables, bring food, drinks and condiments before returning to us to take our orders. While taking our order, she, once again, misheard my friend telling her what she wanted and only brought part of her order. On top of the rudeness, the honey packets for the tea were sticky and gross. Neither one of us will be returning to any Norms because of this experience. read more

My best friend and I decided to come to NORMS for dinner on a Monday night. The restaurant wasn't busy, which I enjoyed, especially since I felt that the service would be even faster than usual. That said, we were immediately seated in a booth and subsequently greeted by our server, Kristina. She was marvelous. Kristina gave us all the time we needed to decide what we wanted to order. She was also incredibly enthusiastic and extremely helpful throughout our visit there. Along with the excellent service, the food was delicious. My friend ordered a breakfast plate, which smelled and looked great. As for myself, I ordered a limited time dinner plate. The salad was delightful. The soup was terrific. My dinner entree and dessert were fabulous, as well. I even won a couple of plushies from the claw machine afterward. 10/10, would eat again. Where to begin...though this was not my first ever LA restaurant, this was my first as an LA resident, and I could not be more pleased. We ordered breakfast in for our first full day and it was delicious! Such a great variety of options, covering everything you could possibly want to start your morning. I had the French toast with eggs and hashbrowns (my favorite breakfast combo); the French toast is some of the best I've ever heard. Somehow has all the flavor but none of the heaviness of a fully soaked piece of toast; super light and fluffy. Eggs-cellent work! P.S. I must also say that we were big fans of the takeout containers having a tray inside to separate the toast from the sides. Genius! read more

First of all, when I got my food I was disappointed. I had ordered something and got something different. I asked the server if this was what I ordered and they said yes, even though the menu listed the ingredients on the dish which my food had mushrooms even though it was not listed. They said it was "the same thing" but I did not want it and the person insisted it was the same. I had to pick them out one by one. When I had gone to pay the check, I was listed for the item I didn't ask for, the pasta with the mushrooms even though that was not what I had ordered. I had asked about it to the girl I think ? the one with the mustache and with a snarky tone received a "it's the same price." Although the price on the menu was different. It then rolled their eyes at me with a sigh saying "let me see what I could do." Although it could've been more professional, it was upsetting to not get what I ordered and being denied a remake and being gaslit into thinking it was the same thing which the meal was unenjoyable due to the amount of mushrooms in the meal. read more

Norms has that very homey taste to it. Nothing tastes like it's prepackaged or out of a can. Their soups are soo good and the prices are even better! You can always count on norms to satisfy your hunger the plates are plentiful. They are open 24 hours so I'd always stop by here with friends after a late night outing. read more

I never thought I'd be giving only 1 star to Norms...their service is wonderful, their servers top notch...their food never disappoints. So why the 1 star this time? We have been accustomed to our 20% senior discount for years; we are both in our mid 70s and of course, on fixed incomes so any type of senior discount is always appreciated from our local businesses. The 20% discount policy has changed, with absolutely NO advanced notice. It is now 20% from 7am to 9am (what respectable senior is awake at that time of day??) and then from 2pm to 6pm.....MONDAY thru FRIDAY ONLY! No senior discounts on weekends or at other times of the day or evening. This was very disappointing tonight to not receive the 20% discount (which on our meal of eggs and pancakes would have been about $4...) This reminds me of the time they started charging a "surcharge" on every ticket to offset the cost of "doing business in California"...we gave in to that because at that time, it meant their prices wouldn't increase. Prices HAVE increased. What used to be a "bigger better breakfast" for $5.99 is now $8.99. I'd have rather had the surcharge than a raise of nearly 40%. Take off our senior discount and it STILL would have been more than the $5.99. So far I have earned $35 on my "club" membership and it just might be the time to cash that in and come to Norms less than before. Sorry Norms. Really sorry. read more

I have now ordered biscuits & gravy thru Postmates. I got biscuits with no gravy. I called to complain. The person refused to give her name. My husband drove to store & her name is Leslie. Basically I was told they are really busy so if they miss stuff it's not a big deal. That if I want my order to be accurate I need to order before 9 am? She never apologized, not once. Then she hung up on me. I called back several times and she would pick up & hang up on me. I was not yelling & I was not cussing. I wanted some kind of option or solution other than me having to drive over to pick up my gravy. This women whoever she is has mo business dealing with customers.
