I really like Northstar. But the service at this location (Westerville) - specifically the people working at the bar - needs improvement. It was like I was invisible. I waited over 10 minutes for them to notice me. Another 10 min for them to start making my drink - which by that time I didn't want. It wasn't busy. Overall I love Northstar! My family especially likes the new !Buddah bowl! However, when you "eat in" it is excellent! However when you order online or order "to go" the meal is woefully short on the protein, even when you order "extra" at extra $$. This has occurred repeatedly over the last year or so. I had not been to Northstar in a long time, so had forgotten that you actually order and pay first and then seat yourself. The food comes out to you later. They had menus and a QR code for a digital menu. We went at 2:30pm, so was surprised to learn that they would not serve the lunch and dinner menu until 3pm. They were still serving the brunch menu. We had looked at the menu before heading over, so already had chosen what we would order. We ended up ordering the classic cheeseburger that comes with breakfast potatoes, the biscuit with strawberry preserves, and mushroom frittata. I thought the meals were a bit pricey, but they were a large portion size. The buttermilk biscuit was big and tasty with the jam. The cheeseburger was cooked perfectly and I found the breakfast potatoes to be nicely seasoned and crunchy. I still wish we could have tried the lunch and dinner options instead. read more

We stopped here for breakfast. The setup is different. We didn't realize that you ordered at the hostess counter (we weren't ready) and then sat down (anywhere). With a party of 5, seating is limited, and walking around looking for a table is odd. We did find a table but it wasn't cleared and it didn't seem that anyone was in a hurry to clean it for us. They eliminated the best breakfast burrito for no apparent reason (one with sweet potatoes) and they refuse to engage in a formal delivery solution. I LOVE NORTHSTAR! It never disappoints period! My go to is the Thai Tofu Burrito- it's big it's healthy it's delicious and their peanut sauce is not too peanuty or sweet but just right! This location is large with some street parking and a lot on the back of the building in the heart of downtown Westerville- one of my fave cities! Their chicken sandwich is good too! So I'll say that we usually love Northstar, BUT this morning I ordered 1 burrito in-person at the front to go and it took exactly 22 minutes to get it! It was not crowded at all, at most 10-12 customers eating inside. I had to watch the people behind us who ordered get their food after 10 minutes and was finished eating before I even got the 1 burrito to go. I would say that's unacceptable and the person who was in charge was not apologetic and/or did not acknowledge the unnecessary wait. Usually they are very good at noticing when a meal is taking too long and offer a complimentary ticket (which rarely happens but def shows stellar costumer service when they do) but whoever this lady was seemed to be checked-out of good customer service. read more

I came in for Sunday brunch solo and the place was very busy but I was able to order pretty quickly, find a seat, and then the food came out pretty darn fast. They must have a smile policy too because every employee that I made eye contact with immediately smiled, very nice. The food overall is probably better than the four stars I'm giving but that's how I felt about my dish. I ordered the biscuits and gravy and added the scrambled eggs which were also, to my surprise, under the biscuits and gravy which I thought was weird. This dish wasn't what I expected as the biscuit was very sweet and it came through too much vs. the gravy, which was very good and the eggs were also very good. It just tasted too sweet and not as savory as I wanted. I also had the carrot juice which was very good (hint of ginger in there I think) and pretty big size as you see in the photo. Really good food but the service wasn't amazing, all the workers seemed mad at me for being there.

Both service and ambience here are outstanding. But I was disappointed in some of my food. Ordered the fish sandwich, which came with salad, and I added a side order of fries with rosemary aioli. The fish sandwich was so bland that I added salt and pepper twice, then requested mustard. Fries were good, but I was not impressed with the aioli. Just very garlicky mayo. North Star is a great healthy and fresh restaurant in Westerville. I get the uptown salad everytime I go, it's so good I can't pass up. It has amazing goat cheese in it that is so creamy and pairs with the champagne vinaigrette so well. The macadamia nuts are delicious and they put so many in there to make it an incredibly filling hearty salad without needing to add any animal protein. The side of foccocia is to die for, I like to spread the goat cheese on it. Absolutely delish. I got take out here. read more

Love this spot. It's cozy and perfect for a date night or a casual outing. I like to stop here after work if I am craving good food that is fresh and always delivers in flavor. Staff and customer service is second to none. Always has been. Restaurant is clean and inviting with its decor. A favorite of mine is the chicken and avocado sandwich, the uptown salad or the tai burrito. Honestly anything you choose, you can't go wrong. Only downside, it can be a bit pricey. Cocktails have increased as well as some other menu items. The truth is that this place is overrated. We've heard so much about it but the guy at the register was unfriendly and barely answered our questions, not offering any extra direction on their very unique process. You order at the register when you come in and you're forced to tip- my husband tried to decline it. We hadn't had any service yet- how are we supposed to know if it was good? Declining is not an option. The food was good, not great, definitely overpriced. We saw a server once- when our food was dropped off. No drink refills, no checking on our food. My burrito was ok though the green sauce that came with it was really good! My husband's oatmeal came in a pickle jar. Overall it was underwhelming and confusing. Of course there are some staples that I enjoy visiting, but it's nice to step away from the First Watches and Sunny Streets of the world. I honestly prefer local, or local-ish venues to dine at with my family or friends. Northstar is ALWAYS in the top 5 of best breakfast spots in Columbus/Columbus-adjacent areas. We finally made it to the Westerville location, and let me just say...It did not disappoint. We entered as novices, and was immediately assisted, and even personally escorted to the ordering area. I asked whether we sat ourselves or wait for someone...he said it was kinda both. lol. We looked at the menu and I certainly found something eye catching. I've had cloud pancakes at home, but never had the opportunity to order in a restaurant. The pancakes were wonderful! Our entire party enjoyed our meals and the overall aesthetic of the place. I'm sadly giving four stars because the high top tables were a bit small for four people. We wanted to sit outside, but the weather proved to be welcoming as the patio was full. The food was average - as expected. Did not blow me away. Partner got the biscuit and gravy bowl, I did not like it at all. The gravy was really sweet; I don't understand why some places make their gravy so sweet? It's not my thing. I got the fish sandwich and it was okay. It's a very basic fish sandwich (a bit over salted), but the grilling was nice - the fish was quite juicy. I thought the fish sandwich came with salad, but it came with breakfast potatoes. I don't like breakfast potatoes personally (and despise people that called breakfast potatoes hash browns), anyway, the breakfast potatoes were okay. It was seasoned but not the kind of seasoning I like (and granted, I'm biased because I don't like breakfast potatoes to start with). Quality and service has been slowly declining and todays experience was the worst so far. I asked for a sauce for my sandwich when the server brought our food, which was never delivered. AND No one came by or checked on us at any point. I went up to the kitchen to ask for the sauce again and was given an excuse why it never arrived instead of an apology. My sandwich was cold and not up to the usual standards. It was dry and had skimpy portions. They followed my frustrations up with an offer of a free fresh replacement of my fries, which was not the issue to begin with. But just to appease me. So disappointing. This use to be my favorite restaurant. We had a terrible experience last time and ere given free meal cards. We used them today and had a worse experience. I've been to the one at Easton, but it was my first time at this location. It was clean and they handled service well. My food was well cooked and came quickly. I had a cheeseburger that was made of brisket and chuck, and it was good. Nothing special, and especially at around $18 for lunch. Small helping of fries, but they were pretty good too. Nothing special but decent. You could taste the quality of the ingredients, but I have had pretty great quality burgers with much more flavor for a few bucks less. The portion was ok, but I was still a little bit hungry after I ate. For just shy of $20 for lunch, I would have been a little more satisfied not still wanting a little more food. Their current menu has some nice options, just not a lot to choose from. I don't mind spending the money for a decent bite to eat, but I want to feel like I got my monies worth, and I can't say that was the case here. Even if the portion was the same, I would have liked a lot bit more flavor for the money or a slightly increased portion. If you are looking for fresh ingredients this is a good place to go. If you are looking for a large portion, might not be the best place to eat depending what you get. If you are looking for something on the more affordable side, this might not be your favorite place. read more

This is my second time eating at Northstar Cafe but first time eating at this location which may be my new favorite! We loved the little town of Westerville and the location has a beautiful outdoor seating area. Great about Covid spacing out & protocol! We came during the brunch menu and everything was amazing!!! I got the sweet potato hash with 2 eggs which had beets and little crispy things on top it was such a good savory breakfast that didn't leave me feeling weighed down. My aunt got the everyday egg sandwich and loved that as well. Everyone at the table was jealous of the big burrito stuffed with sweet potatoes, peppers, and black beans. Their burritos are the best and this breakfast version was no exception! You can't go to Northstar and not be tempted by their desserts in display where you order so of course after finishing our delicious food we went back up to order some desserts. We got the oatmeal raisin cookie and the chocolate truffle cookie. The oatmeal raisin was the favorite because it was the perfect balance of crispy and chewy as well as not too sweet. The chocolate truffle was so decadent and rich so we could only manage to finish half between the 3 of us but still tasted SO good (almost like a fudgey brownie).
