I'm not a huge chain restaurant fan, but I really like the environment here and the food's not bad either. We often get a booth even when we don't ask for one, which is nice (often I find restaurants think we're just young and can be dropped in any random spot). The service is always friendly and we even got a free beer the other night because it took a really long time for the us to get the drink. I love that they have an extensive list of creative, non-alcoholic beverages for people like me! I might not like drinking alcohol, but I still like to have something other than water or regular soda or tea with my meals. I've gotten hanger steak, which was nicely marinated and properly cooked (I hate an overcooked steak). I also tried their seasonal mac-n-cheese, which had bits of chicken, butternut squash, spinach and mushrooms, which was comforting and fall-like but not super remarkable. Their pizzas haven't impressed me so far. If you're not super hungry, you can try to get just one of the appetizers as your meal because they are pretty sizeable! The chicken nachos are balanced just-so in a tower, which is fun, and come with a yummy corn and tomato salsa. They also have fresh-cut fries that are pretty good! They have a nice seating area outside with a fire pit, so I'd like to try sitting there sometime. There's plenty of parking, so it's a pretty smooth experience overall. read more

Delicious. A wonderful experience from beginning to end. The staff were friendly and welcoming. To start the warm faccocia with Asiago olive oil dip was incredibly addicting. My moscow mule took a new spin on a familiar favorite. The blackberries made it new and refreshing. The lettuce cups are delicious and provide a surprising kick that is different than your typical Asian lettuce cups. The portions are well sized and offer a great value. Next I had the rosemary scallops. The dish brings together the sweetness of the scallops and corn combined with saltiness of the bacon on top of the perfectly cooked couscous. Each bite was full of flavor and texture. To finish the peanut butter thing pie put a perfect end to a very tasty dinner. I highly recommended and look forward to returning with some friends soon. read more

They didn't have many dessert options.. forgot my avocado and my turkey club had a slice of turkey! While my friends was totally stuffed, very inconsistent. I have tried both lunch and dinner at this relatively new locations. I was happy with food and overall experience both times. Lunch on one of the weekdays was great - service was fast and attentive, and food was tasty. The restaurant offers to typical American fare (burgers, wraps and pizza), which is perfectly suited for quick business meal. Getting a table was easy - no wait - although the place did not appear empty. For dinner, there was a small wait without reservation for two people. The service was fast and friendly once again. Food selection is great for dinner as well, with specials providing seasonal variety. Buffalo chicken with caribbean flavors are a great appetizer. For main dish, pork shank was just ok (our waitress told us it is a popular dish) - slow-cooked shank was too firm for my taste, perhaps a failure of executing, although the rest of the dish (polenta and tart relish) was tasty. Despite this small imperfection, the overall dining experience was really pleasant. This restaurant is a solid and affordable option for business lunch or dinner. read more

I never thought I'd feel this way about a chain but I love this Not Your Average Joe's! I've been to a few locations but my experience at the Waltham location has been nothing like the rest. The food is always great here. I've had several items off their menu and everything has been delicious. I notice they change some items here every once in a while and they had a cool summer menu which I enjoyed. The ingredients always taste fresh, cooked well and the flavors are excellent. What really sets this restaurant apart from others is its service. The service is incredible. The staff is always so pleasant and professional. There was one time when I ordered steak tips and asked for medium rare. The tips came out well done. I told the waitress and she apologized and got me a new plate immediately. She told me they had a big party and their kitchen was slammed but wanted to make sure I was happy with my meal. Minutes later the manager came by to apologize and informed me that he was taking the item off our bill. The second steak tips were really good too. This was our second visit and it is honestly the reason why we've returned so many times. The staff here really make you feel like you're being taken care of and they want to make sure you enjoy your time here. This Not Your Average Joe's has become a regular spot for me and my boyfriend. The atmosphere there is nice no matter where you sit. The restaurant area is great for a more private dinner and the bar area is great if you want to have a few drinks and watch a game in a relaxed setting. It's by no means a sports bar but I like that they have that. There's also plenty of parking. Great job! Keep it up! read more

I've been to a few NYAJ's and for a newer location, surprised how bad it was. I had the Thai lettuce wraps which I've ordered multiple times before and always loved. The lettuce was so wilted, I couldn't pick up to create "the wrap". The lettuce was black in several locations, add saturated in dressing...didn't even make it halfway through. Our waitress was busy eating a dessert in the "bullpen" area so wasn't too concerned with our experience. We asked for water at the beginning of the meal and had to ask again, and had to ask for a refill because our waitress was too busy eating her dessert. Not asking for much, sad to see the lack of attention and care for the meals they are producing. Maybe ask yourself before sending out the meal, "would I eat this?". read more

The steak and cheese dumplings tasted just like soy sauce. And my steak was disgusting too I barely could even eat it at the time. Everything is over priced here for mediocre at most food the staff didn't greet me when I walked in or out either. I've gotten better food from a McDonalds. This past Sunday, March 4th at around 2:30pm my friend and I entered the Not Your Average Joe's Waltham location. I let the hostess know I wanted a table for two and she began to tell me they were short staffed. She let us know if we sat anywhere in the bar area we would be served. We sat down at one of the tables around the bar (still in the bar area). I am unable to sit at the bar due to a back injury and it isn't comfortable for me. We waited for about 10 minutes, we knew they were short staffed and then my friend got up just to ask the hostess to send someone over, again we stressed we weren't in a hurry. Five minutes passed and one of the hostesses came over and indicated we had to sit at the bar, I let her know we couldn't, then she proceeded to tell me that the bartender, who was the server in that area, was unable to get to us. And then she let us know if we couldn't sit at the bar then they were not going to serve us. Those were her exact words- we will be UNABLE to serve you. I pointed out that there were 4 other parties in the BAR AREA, NOT THE BAR that were being served. I grabbed my bag and just left with my friend and we went next door to Jake and Joe's. I'm really disappointed that this happened. This is not the service this group is known for; I grew up in South Dartmouth, MA and Visited Not Your Average Joe's since I was a little girl every weekend I've even been invited to new restaurant openings and always show my support! If you are unable to serve anyone, the doors to the restaurant should have been locked and the business should not have been operating/open that day. read more

First time at a NYAJ's and I was definitley impressed. The Waltham location is very cool, clean, open and inviting. Service was outstanding across the board from the host to the server. The menu offers a wide variety of options that are uniquely prepared. I opted for the Chicken Enchiladas and they were very good. My wife went with the Grilled Chicken Caprese and that was also very good. Everything had great flavor. Plenty of kids options as well...so they were happy! Food is absolutely amazing, I've never had anything on the menu I wasn't happy with, and my boyfriend and dine at this NYAJ quite frequently. Service is prompt, wait staff is friendly, and portions are quite large. You definitely get what you pay for (and more!) I recommend the nachos and lettuce wraps for apps. My favorite entrees are the buffalo chicken pizza, any of their salads (especially ahi tuna) and the mustard crusted chicken. The atmosphere really puts this place over the top for me, as it differs from other NYAJ restaurants. Super modern, spacious, and has an awesome bar! Enjoy. read more

We had a wonderful night here on February 13. First I must comment on the service, I unfortunately forgot his name, but our server was an incredible professional. Such that we took to joking that he could read minds since every time we thought to request something he would be halfway done putting it on our table or bringing it out. He took excellent care of us and we would return for the service alone. Thankfully, NYAJ delivered on the food as well. We were thoroughly satisfied by all the food that we ordered. My order was a standard burger and fries, but they managed to elevate it to so much more, scrumptious and cooked exactly to order, my fries were perfect too! Everyone else at my table enjoyed their entrees as well! We were having such a good time we even order coffee and dessert (which we seldom do). By the way, I want to know what is in their coffee, it was SO GOOD! It was the most outstanding coffee I've had at a restaurant of the same caliber. Looking forward to coming back! :) read more

The most disgusting establishment in waltham maybe even massachusetts. Where do I even start? The service was horrid the hostess took 10 minutes to stop gossiping with her friend and talk to me. After being sat in a mediocre environment, my food was not even worth it. I barely even ate it I not only wasted my time there but also my money. I plan on never returning there ever overall probably worst experience I have gotten a restaurant. Needs to teach hostess a thing about Hospitality. First -time dining at a restaurant instead of getting take-out, in 4 months. Our choice was a great one to 'break the ice'. We're not ready to do indoor dining yet (although indoors was a ghost town at 6:30) and opted for the patio. Important note: You can score a patio table via on-line reservation. Other restaurants I checked into/called offered outdoors on a first come/first served availability upon arrival - B.S.!! The steps the restaurant is taking (one-time use disposable menu, leaving time between sittings to sanitize, masks required other than when seated, spacing of tables) made us quite comfortable. I had the sirloin tips, which were cooked perfectly and presented on mini beds of spinach and mashed potato. Drinks were good, but I thought "tiny". Been to NYAJ's a half-dozen or so times over the years and always thought it was good. Tonight's experience, food-wise, was better. And the attention to good practices in the era of Covid was especially appreciated. Will be back. read more

I really want to give this place a better rating, but after trying to dine their twice...the management should be aware that their staff is costing them business. My family and I arrived this evening to an almost empty restaurant. We arrived around 5 and maybe 10 tables were taken in the entire restaurant. We requested a booth because my daughter was sleeping and we were told we couldn't have one because all were reserved for the evening. I understand people have reservations, but the entire restaurant was almost empty. There were no parties waiting when we arrived. So we left and went next door. This is the second time this has happened. I was willing to overlook it the first time, but having the hostesses do it to me a second time made me realize this is a regular thing. I USED to like dining here, but I can't seem to get a table anymore. I'll take my business elsewhere. read more

I took my two young boys out for dinner here and my oldest is on a special diet to treat a medical condition. The manager Sam went above and beyond to make sure that they made his "special grilled cheese" that we brought from home to perfection. He was attentive, thorough, and genuinely kind to me and my boys. The food came out hot, well seasoned, and in a timely fashion which is huge while dinning with a 2 and 5 year old. The steak wedge salad was fresh, steak cooked medium rare and just the right amount of dressing. Great atmosphere families, night out and they have a fire pit outside which capped off our night. I actually went to a different location in the Westwood area and have to say I was pleasantly surprised. I tried his fish which was OK, nothing to write home about. What was outstanding was the mashed potatoes, but I won't go back for that. There are way too many average restaurants out there to continue to go here. This place is fine if you are not too fussy about your food and you have a few small children. Went in last night, on a Tuesday. The wait was about 35 minutes despite most of the tables being clear or needing some clearing. A friend and I decided to eat at the bar because we were crunched for time. The male bartender was flabbergasted when we ordered waters, and only bought us one to share. He proceeded to obviously tell the other bartender how awful we were, as she about broke her neck to look over at us once he whispered to her immediately after dropping that one water. I gave in and ordered a drink. The female bartender took my order as the male bartender decided we no longer existed to him. She was pleasant. Once she dropped my drink he made a comment to her, again, about how it sort of made it better. Have to think he wanted us to hear because he said both comments immediately in front of us. After about 10 minutes of passive aggressive hostility from the male bartender who once again refused to take our order (about 7 other couples at the bar had ordered dinner), we asked for the check for my one drink as this was a terrible environment to relax and enjoy a meal. Female bartender was the only one who was approachable for the bill yet. again. After that it seemed she was on break and we were left alone with Mr. Personality. I held the bill up with a $20 to get change for a tip for about 5 minutes more of his angry movements and avoided eye contact. Seemed he was too busy keeping tabs in his head who he would be nice to based on what they ordered. Lesson learned, will put in a reservation next time or wait for the table. Not Your Average Joe's was, honestly, very average. I had no complaints about the service or the food, except that their vegetarian selection was rather slim for my girlfriend. In general, it is your typical non-offensive bar/chain food with a few new twists. They had alright drink specials and some interesting cocktails. Overall, we always felt like we spent more than the food warranted - it definitely is expensive for a chain restaurant that isn't particularly fancy. I think it would be a good place to take not adventurous family members for a decent, albeit slightly expensive, meal. read more

I had heard about this place earlier in the week from some colleagues of mine. It sounded interesting and I like trying new places. Upon arriving at the restaurant, I was really impressed by the place itself. The ambiance and design of it is exquisite and unique. My wife went I first to inquire about seating outside. She was told it would be a while but that they could seat us inside. That was fine. I then met my wife inside at the same host desk she was just at and the same person asked if she could help us. My wife had to remind her that she was the one that just inquired about seating. A little odd since it was literally a minute before and it was pretty empty inside. The hostess then said she would go look for a table for us. She was gone about five minutes...again the restaurant was pretty empty inside with many table available. A waitress helped us get a table. The menu had a lot of options. We ordered the dumplings, I ordered the mustard crusted chicken. The waitress was nice enough but was mostly nowhere to be found for refills and anything else. I didn't like the dumplings. I found them mushy and the sauce to be bitter. To be fair, my wife enjoyed them. The triple mustard chicken dish I ordered was very dry, very bland, and very unappetizing. I ordered the lemonade to accompany the meal. Lemonade is my go to drink and this was by far the worst lemonade I've ever had. It tasted like puréed Gerber baby food. I asked for water and since the waitress did not come around too often that water was the only one I got. After the meal we waited. And waited. And waited for the check. Eventually, I got up from the table and asked another waitress for our check. She asked who our server was and I tried to figure it out. Our waitress eventually came over. I paid and we were so happy to leave. It's unfortunate. We really were open to trying this place and it looked and does look amazing. However, the service, the food, and the drinks were really bad. Something I haven't experienced in a very long time and suffice it to say we won't be returning and I would not recommend this establishment to anyone. read more
