"Always a great spot for lunch! Service, friendly and quick on your order. The portions are generous, the food is freshly made to order, and it always comes out hot. There are a few tables available if you'd like to dine inside."

10/16/24 - My old stand by when I lived in Old Irving as it was close, convenient & reasonably priced food. I went back for my old favorite combo. 2 Shrimp egg foo yung Pattie's, w/chicken fried rice (This use to be shrimp) & an egg roll. The portion size is more then enough to feed boot my wife and I & we have left overs to boot. I'm not sure how long they've been here but I have been going here for over 25 years. Tried & true with stand the rest of time. Solid restaurant mostly carry out as the seating is limited

This is my go to American Chinese food place, especially for sesame or orange chicken. I like to order it with extra sauce and the plate is always full. Can count on the order being done when they say it will be done. I've ordered ahead and ate there and it's super chill. Just pulling in and out of the parking is a little weird cuz of the shape of the lot.

Here is yet another cheap looking strip mall Chinese place, and another that isn't so bad. It's actually kind of good. Number 1 Chop Suey is one of the cheaper places. Good stuff to be honest. There's meat and there's vegetarian choices such as tofu. Came here to pick up an order for lunch and went to the counter. It's a small place and most people get it to go. There's still a few tables. It's about $10 for an entree. The vegetarian choices include Kung Pao Tofu. It actually had quite a bit of spice to it. Still milder than more authentic stuff though. It had a good variety of vegetables including broccoli and carrots. There was actually a lot for what it cost so it's a good price. For sure it's not pretty looking. It's not that good on the inside either but the food is what counts though. There's the classic beef and chicken entrees as well as tofu ones for vegetarians.

The food here was horrible. The wonton was over cooked and hard as a rock! Everything was cooked in old oil and you could definitely taste! The staff were friendly but I would never order from here again

It's pretty rare I crave Chinese-American food but when I do this place is always a solid choice. They've always been incredibly fast and very consistent. Like most places they add a lot of onion to the beef, so much so that it's clearly a cost cutting method, but even so they cook it well and I can't complain. The beef is tender and the sauce is the perfect level of spicy for me. The rice just tastes like soy sauce and is dry and boring, but honestly I think that's how a lot of Americans like it so I can't blame the restaurant for knowing their audience. The egg rolls are DELICIOUS, I always buy 2 or 3 extra! If you want fast, hot guilty pleasure food this will satisfy.

I just got a smoothie so my review is just on that experience. Couple working was rude, smoothie was the worst I've had...watery with very little flavor...the strawberry flavor added was warm... thought this was odd in a smoothie. Wouldn't come back...too many other places to get a smoothie at.

Mongolian Beef Combo. Great smokey flavor from the wok. Appreciate a nice ratio of meat and onions!

My favorite place for Chinese American food in the area. Occasionally we'd give other establishments a try but we keep coming back to Number 1. It was good before but even better under new owners! Great taste and great value.

Number 1 Chop Suey is my favorite and go to for some great food. I would recommend ordering the combos because there would be plenty of food for 2 with just 1 order.

Tucked into a no-frills corner on the South Side, Dai Yee's looks modest from the outside, but step in after 10 p.m. and it's pure magic. The room is packed with everybody--sneakerheads, nurses coming off shift, club kids, cops, and couples on first dates who somehow heard the legend. The vibe is chaotic in the best way: woks roaring, orders flying, and that unmistakable perfume of sizzling garlic, ginger, and chili filling the air. The food is straight-up stupid good. The Hong Kong-style salt & pepper smelts are crackly, spicy, and gone in 30 seconds. The beef chow fun has that elusive wok hei (breath of the wok) that most places only dream of, wide rice noodles slick with smoky char and tender flank steak. The black pepper beef tenderloin is velvet-soft, glossy, and aggressively peppery in a way that makes you order extra rice just to survive the happiness. The Singapore noodles are bright curry perfection, and the Mongolian beef is saucy, crispy-edged, and borderline addictive. Portions are straight out of the 90s--massive trays that could feed a family of four for under $15. Cash-only, BYOB, and everything comes out blazing hot in under ten minutes even when the place is slammed. The ladies running the show are legends: fast, funny, and they'll roast you (lovingly) if you can't handle the spice level you asked for. If you leave Chicago without hitting Dai Yee's at least once (preferably at 1 a.m. with a six-pack), you didn't really experience the city. This is real-deal, no-filter, soul-satisfying Chinese food that reminds you why we fall in love with restaurants in the first place. Dai Yee's isn't just a restaurant; it's a Chicago institution in the making. I'd wait in line in a blizzard for those smelts. See you at midnight.

We had starters - fried calamari and a spring roll sort of thing. We also had eggplant, another stir fry and walnut shrimp. All of it was fresh and delicious. My one recommendation would be to pay close attention to the menu. I didn't realize that the shrimp in the walnut shrimp was battered and fried - would have picked something else if I had. To be clear- it was delicious! It's just that I had already had two fried appetizers so would preferred something lighter. The eggplant dish was my favorite! And the special cocktails were also delightful. The restaurant is very busy and a little noisy at times, but it didn't detract from our experience.

It's crazy it's completely died down by the time we were finished with our meal. The service was great, the interior decor was beautiful and the staff was friendly. The dim sum offered for brunch was good as well but pricey. Especially since some dishes were only offered with two pieces. If you have a party of three then you're kind of forced into buying two of the same dishes. Which is strange. Traditionally most dim sum dishes have three pieces. Rarely see 2 pieces being offered especially for double the price. We ordered their Jiaozi, Char Sui Bao, crab Rangoon, chilly chilli noodles, and their Xiang long Bao. All were great. The chilly chilli noodles is served cold and was very flavorful. The Xiang Kong Bao was amazing. The potstickers was probably my favorite dish and it's mess up char Sui Bao. We were going to order wings but they had ran out I guess by 12pm on a Sunday. I was also going to order fried rice but it wasn't offered for brunch. Overall despite the priciness of the menu, we still enjoyed our food and the service. I obviously knew what I was getting myself into by visiting this place, and can definitely see myself returning in the future.
