10/16/24 - My old stand by when I lived in Old Irving as it was close, convenient & reasonably priced food. I went back for my old favorite combo. 2 Shrimp egg foo yung Pattie's, w/chicken fried rice (This use to be shrimp) & an egg roll. This is my go to American Chinese food place, especially for sesame or orange chicken. I like to order it with extra sauce and the plate is always full. Can count on the order being done when they say it will be done. I've ordered ahead and ate there and it's super chill. My order seemed rushed because my pot stickers weren't properly cooked, and the one little container of dipping sauce leaked in the container, making them soggy. Here is yet another cheap looking strip mall Chinese place, and another that isn't so bad. It's actually kind of good. Number 1 Chop Suey is one of the cheaper places. Good stuff to be honest. There's meat and there's vegetarian choices such as tofu. Came here to pick up an order for lunch and went to the counter. It's a small place and most people get it to go. There's still a few tables. It's about $10 for an entree. The vegetarian choices include Kung Pao Tofu. It actually had quite a bit of spice to it. Still milder than more authentic stuff though. It had a good variety of vegetables including broccoli and carrots. There was actually a lot for what it cost so it's a good price. For sure it's not pretty looking. It's not that good on the inside either but the food is what counts though. There's the classic beef and chicken entrees as well as tofu ones for vegetarians. read more

Of all the Chinese restaurants I've been to I think this one really takes the cake my favorite dish is the lunch combo of orange chicken with fried rice. The orange chicken is not soggy or lacking flavor and the sauce is thicker and it sticks to the fried chicken. It just perfect! It's very well priced, average customer service and for drinks they serve cans of soda not bottles. There is indoor seating but limited it's a storefront Chinese restaurant but don't let that deter you the food is what you come for. They have actually been voted number one Chinese restaurant in Chicago so you have to check this place out. read more

It's pretty rare I crave Chinese-American food but when I do this place is always a solid choice. They've always been incredibly fast and very consistent. Like most places they add a lot of onion to the beef, so much so that it's clearly a cost cutting method, but even so they cook it well and I can't complain. The beef is tender and the sauce is the perfect level of spicy for me. The rice just tastes like soy sauce and is dry and boring, but honestly I think that's how a lot of Americans like it so I can't blame the restaurant for knowing their audience. I had heard of this restaurant from my sister who lives in the area. Here's my food review: 1. The egg rolls were the worst I've ever had. The roll was dry not crispy. 2. The pan fried chow Mein was greasy 3. The orange chicken was gross. My husband had that and spit it out. The chicken was spongy. I understand that restaurants are struggling during Covid but If your business needs take out to survive maybe you should ensure your food tastes good. So this place isn't as good as it was the first time I got takeout here. I ordered the BBQ Pork, wonton soup, and Hawaiian fried rice. Two stars solely for the fried rice, can't really mess that up. The soup was ok... filling was a bit weird and almost non existent. They put oddly colored pieces of pork in the soup which had pink edges. The bbq pork tasted like candy it was SO SWEET. I was stuck inside all day cause I'm staying at a friends and didn't get a key to the house, so I couldn't leave. I looked on yelp for anything within the area that was cheap and would deliver. This place showed up. I ordered the chicken and broccoli and pot stickers. It arrived within 30 minutes, probably less time actually and the food was still really hot, it was like they took it straight off the wok and drove it to my friend's house. The portions are HUGE, I couldn't finish half of the meal, let alone touch the pot stickers (I'm hoping it will taste good tomorrow). The food was decent for what you pay, but its nothing that I would go raving to my friends about. All in all, a great place if you're hungry and want something cheap and decent, but if you want really great chinese food, try some place else. read more

Funny thing is, I eat here when I'm on my "healthy" diet and don't feel like cooking. Healthy because we always order chicken and broccoli steamed with no sauce. Extra chicken for $2 more...and the servings last at least 2-3 meals. The chicken satay is good too, with some rice on the side its a great meal! My favorite employee who handled the cash register has been gone for years. I found out she actually went away for a while but the restaurant won't hire her back. Apparently she must have been the general manager of the restaurant as quality control has been severely diminished. 1. This restaurant has recently failed food inspection by the City of Chicago. Food preparation areas were cited in the case that was filed this year. 2. The ONLY dish I can stomach is the Singapore rice-noodle. 3. My favorite lunch special, Orange Chicken, I have lost a taste for. The last time I ordered this dish it was warm. Not hot, but strangely a mediocre warm. I tried eating it but every time I did I just wanted nothing to do with the dish. 4. Do not get the Mango smoothie. Whomever makes the smoothies should stop using unripened fruit for the smoothie mix. Sour Mango is not appealing at all. 5. Smoothie mix is uneven. Mixing hot tea into a cold drink will always equate to an uneven mix. Not sure who does this they just prepare the tea ahead of time and put the tea in the fridge. Also the tapioca is not given enough time to thaw. 6. Lately, customer service has been rude. I don't blame employees, I blame ownership. Potbellies opens up tomorrow and Lou Malnatti's is coming in 2016. If they don't something soon they should just close up shop. They're just biding time hoping the area doesn't improve. read more

This place looks like it has a lot of potential, I just think I ordered the wrong thing. I ordered the Pad Thai and there was legit no flavor whatsoever. Also I've never had it with lemons instead of limes before so that was weird. But I'm sure the Chinese dishes on their menu are better. I did get the veggie egg rolls and although they didn't taste fresh (also not expected) they were cooked well and were light golden brown which was nice. I will never get over sweet and sour sauce in a packet though either. That should be served fresh, and hot! Worst chinese food I've ever had. Ordered delivery which was on time. Portions were big for the prices. Those were the only good things. Order of pork noodle soup and shrimp noodle soup were lukewarm, tasted like water, the noodles weren't separated from the "broth". So the noodles were mushy. There was barely any veggies or protein. Horrible. Lo mein was worse. I've had many kinds of noodles in my life (I'm asian) and this wasn't lo mein at all. They used stringy, brown, soft rice noodles. Barely any protein or veggies. I think they just added a tablespoon of watered down soy sauce over the pound of noodles. We took two bites and closed the box. Order of rib tips in bbq sauce. Awful. Tough and mostly bone and the sauce was basically just sweet and sour sauce. The fried rice was ok. $25 for food we had a couple bites of bland, mushy, cold, tough food. We were so disgusted. At least we didn't get sick. Just went outside to look for a homeless person we could give the food to because we just can't stand to throw away food Feel bad writing this review but people in the neighborhood need decent restaurants. My husband and I was craving some good Chinese food. We came upon #1 Chop Suey on Irving Park Road, we chose this place because it was not far from us. We ordered the general tso's chicken and orange chicken special. The special comes with chicken fried rice and veggie egg roll. They were only 7.95 each, we thought what a great deal. The food came quick which was good however the quality of food was disappointing. My general tso's chicken was soggy and mushy, didn't taste like anything. The chicken fried rice tasted super weird and was extremely hard! I hate throwing away food and I almost never do, but unfortunately I had no choice but to toss it. My husband said his orange chicken was ok, it was not crispy but also mushy. The only thing I was able to eat was the egg rolls. Needless to say it was our first and last time ordering from here. I honestly wish I could give half a star because I would award it to this place in a heartbeat. The food is a little better than adequate, which is honestly all I hope for from most Chinese carryout/delivery spots around here. They had a dish called "Rainbow Wonton" which is pretty much the same as the subgum wonton that used to be served at the House of Wah Sun on Lincoln Ave. (I can't find it on their online menu; I fear it's been deep sixed.) Since I loved that dish, I ordered the Rainbow Wonton and found it to be tasty, though not nearly as flavorful as what I remember from House of Wah Sun. Still, it was good enough; I enjoyed it. I also split the pot stickers with the housemate and they were very nice, with a good sauce. That was rather a relief since the last time we ordered pot stickers from a restaurant the little container of sauce tasted pretty much like straight soy. The pot stickers themselves were properly cooked if a bit doughy. The housemate said that her Mongolian combo was really spicy, and if she comments on it, you know it was hot. Her opinion: Yeah, better than adequate but not really, really good. Prices are pretty reasonable and service is quite fast. In all, it's a place we'll order from again, though I'm not quite prepared to go to the four star stage just yet. N.B.: What is it with restaurants under-cooking shrimp? Every place I order from serves me flaccid shrimp that makes me want to yak. Happened again from this place and while I know I can reheat the leftovers and firm them up, I shouldn't have to plan for that.
