Don't let the humble atmosphere fool you, this place packs so much FLAVOR into its dishes. We have gotten take out several times over the last few months and each time it has been excellent. I love this place. We haven't found another restaurant that even comes close to it and delivers. Their Mongolian beef is the best. And we always have an order of pan fried noodles with it. I am always disappointed at any other restaurant's noodles. They taste delicious and are cooked perfectly. We lived in the area for a long time have kow moved to West Rogers Park so when we go back to visit Family we order from them were glad to say food is still great prices are still good will keep going back when we visit our old neighborhood. Keep up the great service. read more

I'm so sad we no longer live in Chicago because we did not have nearly enough time with Wing Chong. Our fault, though. We walked by it for years and never ordered, frankly because the inside of the place looks super dated. But we finally tried it after lots of people recommended it in our neighborhood Facebook group, and then spent our last few months in Chicago kicking ourselves for sleeping on it for so long. Everything is fresh, the portions are huge, and the prices are unbeatable. I would never expect such high quality food at such a low price point, but here we are. Decent Chinese food. I will be back here. I offer only 3 stars for two reasons: the restaurant itself is a nightmare, and unless you are a foodie like me, you would faint looking at how run down the interior is. Complete with a child's high chair covered in aged filth -- dried liquids of an unknown origin. Two large fish tanks house I don't know what kinds of fish, are shoved to the side of the dining area like two cars after an accident or during a traffic jam. I can't decide. My inner Anthony Bourdain loves this. Nothing better than a shack turning out tasty food at a reasonable price! Seriously, the food is legit. I had the General Tsao's Chicken with shrimp fried rice for an upgrade charge of like a $1.85 or so. Otherwise the chicken just comes with white rice and that's boring. I wish they had put chop sticks in with my order but I didn't ask. I own plenty so it isn't an issue. As soon as I got home, I was relaxing on the couch, feeding myself like any diva would, in a silk robe, with my extra-long bamboo chop sticks. Straight out of the box! My second reason for taking a star away would be for the staff. The girl who helped me was polite, but she wasn't big on up selling me on food or small talk. I barely found the restaurant. So like a lot of people finding a good Chinese restaurant it's kinda difficult, either does not taste good or the quality is bad. I live in old Irving park so sometimes I go to do grocery at Tony's on Elston. I always seen this restaurant on the way to Tony's but never wanted to go because it look very old from the outside. One day my husband and I were craving Chinese so we looked in yelp and for my surprise wing Chong had good reviews and even 4 stars . Still I was not sure to eat there but decided to order lunch specials to give a try. I saw a post with the prices here but I couldn't believe they were right still since the it was from 2 years ago. I ordered a general chicken Tso and my hubby order shrimp and lobster sauce. When we walked in I was very insecure still, restaurant look very... very... old but what to do, we already order. The cashier was very nice and had our food ready, we paid and left home. When I opened the bag I couldn't believe the amount of food for the price, it was so much that even 2 people can ea from One and it was less than 5 bucks. We began eating and noticed that everything tasted so good to the point that we ate the whole thing. I most say that I was very surprised with the whole experience, you definitely can't judge a book by the cover, this Chinese restaurant it's a hidden gem . Good stuff! We ordered food from Wing Chong for the first time last week and were very pleased with everything we ate. For an appetizer, we ordered the Crab Rangoon, which was pretty tasty. The filling was wrapped in a heavily breaded pastry, so I couldn't taste as much of the filling as I would have liked, but it was still pretty good. We also ordered Shrimp Fried Rice and Chicken Fried Rice. Even though I've had better, I thought they were both good. We had the Mongolian Beef, which was OK, and also the Orange Chicken, which I thought was excellent. The nuggets of chicken had a nice, almost crispy, texture to them, and I liked the sweetness in the sauce. I wouldn't recommend eating inside Wing Chong; this is more of a takeout place. If you call in your order ahead of time, it's ready in about 15 minutes. Wing Chong is really affordable and a good value for the price. They take credit cards, too, which is a big plus in my book. Not only is the food delicious, it is priced really well. My husband and I live nearby and recently decided to try this unassuming little restaurant. What took us so long?! We've gone twice now and both times have been pleased. We've had General Tso Chicken, crab Rangoon, Kung Pao beef, pork dumplings and shrimp fried rice. Everything has been great! The pork dumplings in particular are awesome! You just can't beat the price for the large amount of food you take home. A true hidden gem! read more

Unfortunately it was too much for my son so he just ate the rice. I liked the Kung Pao, light on veggies great on chicken. The Rangoon was okay - I had it delivered so it was a bit cool and that stuff is better piping hot. I have ordered delivery from this place often. The food has always been tasty, fresh and reasonably priced. They are generally nice, although very busy, when ordering by phone. My big mistake was going to pick up the food once and saw how poorly the restaurant is maintained. The inside smells musty, there are dirty hand prints in many areas of the restaurant walls & entrance. The dining room is somewhat in disarray, and nothing is clean & fresh looking. The outside also looks like a mess with old, faded decorative drapes that should be removed and replaced. So this got me thinking...if this is how well they take care of the restaurant...how clean is the kitchen? I have decided, after my site visit, to not order from here anymore. Hands down the best Chinese takeout in Chicago. Lunch special is 4.95 for pretty much 2 POUNDS of food. Their fried rice is Smokey and peppery and taste so much better than most places. Can a take-out Chinese restaurant with one dollar sign get a five star rating? It would be difficult I think, because it would be unfair to a full-service restaurant. But wait, let's get back to this specific restaurant's review, and you'll see why I bring up this question in the first place. Wing Chong is a bit of a strange bird. They serve fresh, delicious, good quality Chinese-American cuisine. Clearly they are focused on delivery and take-out. Their menu is the typical layout on glossy paper, and few surprises at the choices/selections. All the usual favorites. So far, so good, right? Right. What makes the place strange is perhaps intentional... I'm not quite sure. Why would a place with great food be completely empty when I was there? True, there's no big, lit-up sign -- but for years they apparently had no large sign at all at this corner location. I'm pleased to say that since I originally wrote this review, they now have a large, easy to read overhead sign so people can find it. Yes, the place is very small. Only seats about 20 people. They have tables and chairs. Granted, the ambiance is lacking, the decor is subpar, and the washroom doesn't exist (there must be one somewhere I suppose). However, there are flowers near the window and amazing large live fish in an aquarium. Our server was friendly, accommodating, and couldn't have moved faster from kitchen to table unless she was training for sprints. I have concluded they prefer to do delivery and takeout. So, do it. You will be very happy to order from this place. Big recommendations for Wing Chong's food, service and speed. The best features are the ones that count: great food, great prices, and good portions -- sometimes even your choice of portion size. Personal recommendations for the pot stickers, wonton soup, chicken fried rice, and chicken with garlic sauce (I order it medium spicy). Not sure why this restaurant isn't trying hard to get that fifth star, but since they've been around for 15 years, I am sure that they know what they're doing. They must be happy with the way it's going for them, because they're not open very late any night, so it's not like they're especially courting late night take-out or delivery. They just do it their way, and their way means great food at great prices. They're economical. We benefit from that. I really like the place. Awesome inexpensive Chinese. It's not much to look at from the outside and I'll admit that I drove past it for years without a second glance. I was pursuing through Yelp one day and noticed it's reviews and decided I had to try it for myself. It's an excellent value and the food is good quality. I got the hot and sour soup, which is some of the best I've had in a while, and not too salty. My wife got the veggie egg roles which were great, nice and crispy. We gave it another shot last week - and knowing the issues with delivery - I decided to pick up. When I mentioned the discount, they honored it immediately and even remembered the incident. Dumplings were delicious. Then it was downhill from there. Orange chicken had good flavor but was too saucy for my tastes, good if you want the sauce to completely cover your rice. Mandarin style stir fry noodles were very greasy and the "hong kong" style wonton soup is just normal wonton soup with tons cheap maruchan noodles thrown in- resulting in very little broth for the whole soup. Also, I feel i need to say that just waiting there for my food made me reconsider eating there- the floor looked like it handnt been swept in months.
