This used to be my favorite numero Uno & after 35+ years I hate to say that it has gone completely downhill. There is no management on the premises. The owner is never there & the employees run amok & treat customers like they are beneath them. I don't think any employee has ever even heard of professional courtesy. Or just plain courtesy! I would never trust getting anything from this restaurant ever again because I would never trust what these employees are doing to the food before we receive it. Yes. They are that evil.!!! Even trying to call the restaurant and asking to speak with the owner will resort you to tears ....literally !!!! crying tears!! I was feeling nostalgic for the Numero Uno Pizza of my teenage years in the 1980s, so I was happy to find that a few locations -- including the Mid-Wilshire spot in Los Angeles -- are still around. I ordered a large pepperoni pizza. The dough hit all of the right notes that i remembered: chewy, fluffy, buttery, and crunchy with loads of chunky tomato pieces and cheese on top. My only real gripe is that they definitely need to put more pepperoni on it -- there were so few slices that it almost felt like a cheese pizza. The staff, both in-store and over the phone, were fantastic -- super friendly and helpful. When I called, they even advised me that a large was going for the price of a medium, which was a great deal. Prices overall felt reasonable. Parking was surprisingly easy for Mid-Wilshire, with plenty of spots for pickup or dining in. The ambience leans full-on 1980s/1990s pizza joint (a throwback vibe) with a bar. Daughter bought her BMW next door and we saw this place of nostalgia!! Wife and I used to eat Numero Uno pizza all the time when they had lots of locations. We were so hopeful to get a ride back in time but honestly it fell short and I really don't like saying that... I should have gotten the hint when we saw that they also sell tacos, quesadillas and Mexican food. .. we ordered what we used to back in the day which was the Romano bread puffs and a deep dish pepperoni pizza. Bread puffs were ok, just a bit smaller and very hard they used to be larger and fluffy. The pizza looked about the same but beneath it was very odd the pizza was not cooked properly and underneath the layer of cheese was raw dough which was really disgusting. We really wanted to have a pleasant dining experience and reminisce on the past but unfortunately it didn't quite work out that way, I'm not sure what has changed with this pizza chain but it's certainly did not meet our expectations. Our waitress and the staff were very nice and pleasant so that was the bright spot but the food made me sick and I really hope that they take this review seriously and look into their cooking methods and restore them to their former glory. I grew up loving Numero Uno pizza. I went to the one in Westwood Village all the time with my friends, before we understood the evils of carbs or gluten. Their pizza's sweet dough & crispy crust, and the crispy-chewy deep fried Romano puff balls were the best. Tonight I was reminiscing about it to a friend & we decided to order my teenage faves. Sadly, after tonight I have to admit to myself that the pizza I remember only lives in my teenage memories, because it does not exist anymore. The thick crust Hawaiian pizza I got today was a thinner version of the fluffy crust I had in the 80s. There was no detectable sweetness to the dough, the crispiness of the bottom was negligible, & the edges felt like it was a slightly freezer burned, reheated, pre-frozen dough round. The Romano Puffs used to be these beautifully golden, perfectly round fried dough balls. The ones I got today were lazy flat blobs, so over fermented that the dough tasted like alcohol. And again, there was none of the sweetness to the dough that used to be iconic of Numero Uno. Admittedly I have not had Numero Uno in a couple decades. But since they still describe their pizza as having a sweet dough, I would expect the recipe to be the same. Note to restaurant: you can Google & find copycat Numero Uno dough recipes that were created by others with similar childhood/teenage memories as mine. Maybe you should check them out. They include brown sugar. I am officially adding this location to my Dead To Me Yelp list because this is where we got the terrible food from. I grew up eating Numero Uno Pizza in the 90s, and back then it was unmistakable. The crust had that slightly sweet, chewy, delicious flavor you couldn't confuse with anything else. The recipe has clearly changed. The crust isn't the same, the ingredients taste different, and even the Romano bread puffs weren't what I remembered. This is really a good pizza though it's quite expensive for medium box being $26. I don't think they have any discounts like Pizza Hut. The amount of toppings they give you is extremely generous and is really fresh ingredients. Somehow, the order didn't come through even when I ordered online and it said it would've been ready by a certain time. Like it was just sitting out for a couple minutes -- and without a heating lamp. I ordered "The Works" . The Works is: Pepperoni, sausage, meatballs, black olives, mushrooms, onions & green peppers. large and thick-crust style. Numero Uno is known for its over the topping snow mozzarella covering. Its texture is definitely unique. The cheese kinda coagulates and clumps together. It's a certain style that many like. And many hate. I'm somewhere in between though. Definitely treading upwards from your average pizza franchise, but not enough for me to swoon over. Snow-covered topping crunch with all the meats below the permafrost is a very interesting texture. But I like the proportion of toppings/cheese to be on an equal plane (or near equal). $30 is about average price for pizza market value. read more

I've seen this place for the last year since I always go to the Starbucks in the same small parking lot, and finally decided to give it a try. I used the Slice app to place an order for a large meat supreme pie. The price was $26, just enough to use the $5 off deal. I prepaid for the order, so it was super easy when picking up the pizza. Make sure to ask for more napkins, Parm, and chili flakes if you need more. The parking lot is small, I was lucky to find the last spot in the back lot at 5 pm. Tip: picking up take out, there is a reserved space in front of the store so you can park there for 15 minutes to get your food. I haven't eaten pizza from Numero Uno since the mid-80s. On 2/10 at 7pm, I ordered a pizza to go and when I opened the box. It looked as if the edges of the pizza were not covered with ingredients And it looked like the pizza was just thrown in the box, for $28, you think the entire pizza would be covered with the ingredients you were promised this is the worst pizza I've ever gotten and the stupid cook was insulted that I said something about it. The waitress asked if I would like her to take the pizza back. So they could cover the areas that had no ingredients. I have been eating Numero Uno for decades. Honestly, I can't believe so many people haven't heard of it. It is hands down, the best "chain store" pizza you can buy west of Chicago. The crust is the key to its deliciousness. Thick but not chewy and it is slightly sweet. Most everything else on the menu will not disappoint you. I usually get the pizza and hot wings. If you dine-in you can order beer and wine and watch sports old and live when possible. Great service but this location does not have pizza parlor ambiance. read more
