I was in Santa Rosa for a wedding and had a few days to sightsee. I was tired of eating out and was just looking for a nice, New York-style pizza - on Easter! Most places were closed but NY Pie saved the day! Even though they were short-staffed, they made me a great pepperoni, green pepper, and black olive pie that tasted just like when I grew up in New Jersey! I have been coming to NY pie for years. Used to be a GREAT slice & salads, and a really busy place. My ex-husband is from NJ, and I've been back there and NYC many times, so I know from good pizza! I was there recently with my daughter, no waitstaff at all, we had to order at the counter, even though the place was DEAD. My friend Ashley used to work there, and regardless of whether she waited in us or someone else, we usually got decent, if not mediocre service (these are kids and they don't know all that much about putting oneself in the diner's shoes). So anyway, it was totally empty, 3 young men there, haphazard COVID precautions, and they stood around mostly. We got our slices, my daughter a New Yorker slice, and mine a Central Park slice, plus 'shrooms. It was overcooked and basically burnt & dried out cheese. My spinach was dead & dried out, and I counted EXACTLY 3 razor-thin slices of mushrooms, after having been charged an extra fee. We had also ordered garlic knots, they were ok, but the marinara was COLD and oily. Yuck. I had also ordered a spinach salad, which came now in a to-go container, rather than a bowl, as previously. The toppings were stingy, no cheese, and was dropped at the table AFTER we finally got the slices, and without dressing. I had to re-ask for dressing, TWICE. I also had to ask for my salad, as the guy who waited on us had also rung us up, but seemingly had no idea that I had ordered one. Also, I would have asked for the salad & knots prior to the pizza, as they should've been delivered, but couldn't get anyone to come to the table. I'm super disappointed in NY Pie, and want to chalk it up to a 1-time experience, but we've had shitty dried-out burnt pizza slices here on prior 2x visits. The food at this place is astonishing. Closest thing to New York pizza I have ever tasted and I've been to New York once on a layover on my way to Uzbekistan. The only reason I couldn't give this beautiful establishment 5 stars was because of the Director of Operations. He kept asking me if his hairline was making me uncomfortable but I was too busy absolutely stuffing my guts with this delicious pizza to notice. Eventually I looked up, only to see that I was being blinded by the reflection of the sun beaming directly into my eyes from the head of this director of operations. After my retinas had been scorched I returned back to this crucial pizza and the song "Blinded By The Light" by Manfred Mann's Earth Band was playing loud and clear on the radio and everything felt alright. They said they called us and no one answered to let us know our pizza was running late. We never received a missed call. We also asked them to repeat our phone number and address. Both were correct. They said they were taking 35%off for the inconvenience and that the pizza was on its way. We were super polite about their compromise. We waited another 20mins and called back. They said they were sorry and were sending the pizza right away, comping the whole order and sending it out. Long story short, they sent over our pizzas three hours later and we were left with no explanation.... Even if you're desperate for pizza, this place is not worth it. I'm giving the pizza three stars but the staff mixed with those dare wings gets the fourth star. If you looking for the feel of New York pizza this place almost knocks it out of the park. I actually like this place and the pizza is above average. I'm commenting due to some strange pricing practices in the hope that the owner will read this and make an adjustment. The staff are aware of the issue but they say they can't do anything about it without owner intervention. The issue is pretty simple and would be an easy fix: under their new point of sale update, they are charging the same amount for 1/2 toppings as full toppings. I'm sure it's a glitch (you wouldn't actually do that to your customers on purpose, right?), but it's been going on for more than a month now. Let's get this fixed so we can order 1/2 toppings and not feel like we're getting ripped off, ok? read more

I live and work in Rohnert Park so I've only been to their establishment once with a buddy who has been there a few times and he raves about it. The time I went I thought the prices, service and food quality were all great, just not terribly local. With everything going on now I saw a post where they offered a kit to make your own 4 personal pizzas at home. I took them up on their offer as I knew my 9 year old daughter and wife would love the experience. Purchase and pickup couldn't have been easier, got the kit home and we laid it all out, it was awesome, everything there. Long of the short, we had a BLAST and we all have a new respect for those who can make the perfect circular pizzas! The experience was awesome, the pizzas tasted GREAT..... Decent New York style pizza, but not as good as Tony's (even the SliceHouse) in the Casino, or Joey's by the JC. Based on three orders across a few months, the crust is pretty dougy and underdone, and the toppings just aren't as good as other places. I usually go for a base of pepperoni and sausage, sometimes with mushrooms, and/or garlic. Comparing again to the SliceHouse, the individual toppings are not as flavorful or true. In the non-meat toppings, even Mod Pizza's peppers, mushrooms and garlic have better flavor and mouth-feel. Combined with the doughy underdone crust, it feels more like a chore than a pleasure to work through one of these. As one other reviewer mentioned, you end up trying to rebake it but not burn the top. I am also fond of Feta on pizza, and they don't offer it. Ordering over the phone, pickup is generally a little awkward, with it taking a few minutes to get someone's attention to pay and pickup. In person, the single time I did that, was similar. 9 minutes standing at the counter, no one else in line, before being provided a chance to order. Also, this Yelp record is connected to NY Pie's entry on Apple Maps. On Apple Maps, the business is registered as accepting Apple Pay (somebody has to do that, this doesn't happen by accident), but it does not and cannot accept wireless payment of any kind.
