My eldest sister visiting O'ahu and I craved for Hawaiian food. We love eating traditional Hawaiian food! However, we don't get to eat it as often as we prefer to. I called the restaurant at opening and spoke with a kind, local employee via phone. I made a res on same day for lunch at 12 noon. He informed me, "When you come in, say you're the party of 8!" I wanted to chuckle. I maintained my composure and responded, "Ok. Will do." I kindly left my name, just in case, restaurant gets full. Parking options are street, metered, and paid public parking lot via entering 11th Ave, then turn left. Choose a single plate, two choices, or three choices combination plate with or w/o add ons. Choice of poi or rice, lomi lomi salmon and haupia are included in plates. These are my faves or must haves for three choices Hawaiian mea 'ai rated 10/10: Laulau was very flavorful! Pork was very moist, with two tiny portions of fat. Super tender, and easy to pull apart. Kalua pig tasted moist and had the perfect amount of Hawaiian salt. Squid luau has the ideal consistency, not too thick, not runny, with proportions of squid and coconut milk. I also let my hubby try after he overheard me rave about it. He loved it too! Lomi lomi salmon tasted very fresh. Light Hawaiian salt compliments this side dish. Haupia was thick in consistency and ono! Tiny, powerful dessert. Poi brought back pleasant, nostalgia memories! Perfect consistency, color and taste. Fresh, same day poi. I ate everything on my plate. Spacious, casual, and ample elbow space to enjoy your entree(s). We're very happy that three different 'ohana were able to meet, converse and catch up from nostalgia to modern times. If choosing to pay with card, there's a 3% surcharge. Excellent customer service from one and only, full of life + humorous employee with beverage refills, napkins, to go containers. Would love to bring out of town guests at my leisure and try other add ons! Mahalo piha!

So glad to have found this hidden gem in Kaimuki! 10/10 friendly and attentive service from sistah Lei who made us feel welcomed and at home. Parking outside in the municipal parking lot, pay before you leave. Came in a party of 8 with a same day reservation. We all enjoyed our food and I think most of us cleaned our plates too. Poi was offered fresh. You can ask for older/sour poi if you like too. Owners are somehow related to Waiahole poi factory and get their poi fresh from them. Enjoyed my squid luau and laulau. Lomi salmon was gooood and haupia was so 'ono! Definitely recommend stopping by if you're craving real local Hawaiian food and you're in the area!

I am not familiar with hawaiian cuisine. I had a bite of my friend's ordered food called loco moco yesterday, that is about it. And that tasted somewhat familiar. I am glad I found this place and came to dine in, it was interesting. I felt like food was inspired or originated from korean, chinese, filipino, and possibly mexican with twists. Some food was so foreign, but the dining experience was fun here. The cook(maybe John) was friendly and hard working.

Authentic Hawaiian food! This time we ordered take out via this online system. When we got there the food wasn't ready but it was because we were the first ones to order and some items were still being made. Loved the tripe stew, as it's like how grandma would have made it. Chicken long rice was very salty. I think the air conditioning was down or they didn't turn it on yet because it was early. Had fans going instead.

The visit to this restaurant was great. I went around noon and there was plenty of seats. We didn't have to wait a lot to get our food. We tried the short ribs, and pork. Those were amazing. The poi was very interesting, but i didn't like it too much. The squid Lucas though, was great! As well as the lomi salmon.

Update 6-4-2025 Delicious Hawaiian Food. My wife ordered the Salt Meat Watercress, Brother-in-law had the mini Laulau plate, and I had the Squid luau with poi. We all enjoyed our food. The potions are large and the poi is hand pounded. I noticed only one worker / server/ cook. Show a little patience and you will be rewarded with great tasting Hawaiian Food. Enjoy

Oahu Grill is a small family business style restaurant. When we arrived on a Saturday during lunch time, there was only one person on staff and he greeted us with familiarity. The space is small and doesn't offer much in the way of decorations. We ordered one of the large plates and split between our group as we were food touring the area and he was kind enough to give us larger portions than is typically served so we could try lots of options while still feeling satisfied. The quality of the food was traditional home-style, like your grandma would make, but of course Hawaiian. The chicharron was delicious, but the meat was a bit dry and tough. Dipping it in the soy and vinegar sauce helped add moisture and also a nice acidic kick. We also got the squid lu'au, which was a bit odd to me as someone who's never had it, but the taro leave mixture was really delicious and paired with the rice beautifully. The laulau pork was my favorite on the plate because every bite was tender and juicy. The poi was not for me as the texture reminded me of pudding, but made of taro root and it was cold. It's more of a personal preference though. I loved ending the meal with the coconut jelly. Even though the textures and flavors aren't the same, it reminded me of the effect arroz con leche has at the end of a spanish meal, probably because of the milk aspect. Delicious!

I was curious to try O'ahu grill since I love the Kaimukī area, but I was a bit disappointed, unfortunately :-( A friend and I ordered two of the 2-item combos. One combo was pork laulau and chicken long rice, and the second combo was squid luau and tripe stew. The squid luau was pretty good and had a nice coconut flavor. But everything else was way too salty, except for the laulau, which was surprisingly bland and kind of dry... The haupia texture was too starchy. When I placed the order, I asked the staff if they could replace the lomi salmon in both combo plates with a second portion of haupia, and they said it would be no problem, but then they didn't make the adjustment. We ordered takeout so didn't notice until we got home. I see a lot of good reviews on here, though, so maybe we just happened to visit on an "off" day?

BEST HAWAIIAN FOOD ON ISLAND Yes I said it! Went in after lunch rush and the place was empty and quiet. Owner cooking by himself food came quick. SHOYU (soy sauce) CHICKEN 5/5: Sweet savory delicious finger licking marinade and braised tender meat falls off bone! CHICKEN LONG RICE 5/5: warm hearty bowl of soup. Coconut milk jello sweet dessert. LAULAU 5/5: my husband had this and said it's the best he's ever gad! CRISPY PORK BELLY 5/5: crispy and chewy in a good way. Dipping sauce fire PIPIKAULA (SHORT RIBS) 5/5: I'm used to the Korean LA galbi ribs which is sweet but this style with the savory flavor was just as good! SIDES 5/5: CRAB POTATO SALAD, COCONUT JELLY, LOMI SALMON were all tasty! The chef here knows how to get down with flavors in the kitchen. Definitely going to be our go to stop on our vacations here!!!

This place is casual and cozy, I tried the 3 item combination plate here with Smoked Meat, Pipikaula, and Squid Luau. The 3 item combination plate comes with a choice of poi or rice, I opted for poi, and Lomi Salmon and Haupia. Everything was very delicious. My favorite was the Smoked Meat, it was very flavorful and tender. I also really liked the Lomi Salmon and Squid Luau. The service was very good, and the restaurant was well kept and clean.

They only do takeouts at night and the food is pretty bomb for hawaiian food at night. I got the lau lau and the short rib, both were well made. Service was cool, even tho its just collecting our money at the cashier. We waited for 10 min for the food which was pretty quick. Didn't get to dine in so dont know mich about them ambiance, however, the place looks pretty spacious. One bag thing was the poi was sour, didnt know if its expired so I ditch that for rice at home...

Hidden gem! Located in the busy shopping mall on Waianae Avenue. This place serves authentic Hawaiian food! Great two choice combination plates: rice or poi, kahlua pig, and their ono squid luau! I also love their chicken long rice and tripe stew.

Unfortunately I have to give a bad review/one star because of the food we got and the lack of honesty on this particular incident. When we went to this place (closes at 9 pm and we went at 8:30ish) the kitchen was closed and we were told only the chicken long rice is available. The lady owner/manager went to check if they have enough of it remaining . I specifically asked her to verify whether she has the chicken long rice (shredded chicken with rice) enough for 2 people to which she said yes. What we got was attached in the picture and the charge was $32.10 for 2 orders of it. The dish had quantity of chicken less than what even a small soup would have. Basically almost no chicken at all than the tiny bits visible in the pic. Also the menu (pic attached) states the regular Chicken long rice comes with 2 scoops of rice, shredded chicken, lomi salmon, haupia but we were given one scoop of rice. The lady charged us for regular plates (not even the price for mini) but gave the food that barely had any chicken in it. She should have just said, they're Out of Food. This is the lack of honesty part. Her behavior was nice but she shouldn't do this to tourists visiting Hawaii... it leaves a bad experience and memory. I feel we were cheated and I won't go back to this place. I'm always OK to pay the price for what its worth but in this case it was a rip off. read more

Craving Hawaiian? We are so lucky to have authentic ono Hawaiian food in our Kaimuki neighborhood! Generally we can't resist getting a couple or more 3-choice combos since we each want tastes of everything. Can't go wrong with the kalua pig, the laulau, squid luau, smoked meats, fried pork belly, and of course poi (but need some rice too to soak it all up!) The family is so nice too - it's really an extended ohana that can cook!! Great place to share with friends and family arriving from the continent. read more

Have never dined in but the staff there is always super sweet. I got the crispy pork plate (regular size). Excellent and super crispy! Came with a vinegar sauce for dipping. Ate most of it for dinner and the rest for supper.. and the pork was still crispy! We also got the 2 item combo with laulau and kalua pig which was also super yummy. read more

Second time here. Easy parking in the municipal lot. If you're fast enough it is free. Called in ahead of time and placed the order. Headed right down to pick it up after we called and our food was waiting for us. I got the laulau plate that came with haupia, rice,and lomi salmon. Just like last time they gave a lot of lau lau. My father gave me his kalua pig because it was so much that he couldn't finish it. I liked it so much that I finished the rest of his kalua pig and saved my lau lau for lunch the next day. The kalua pig had a nice smokey taste and wasn't greasy at all. The lomi salmon and haupia seemed pretty standard. Their poi is really good, so I really should have gotten that instead of rice. Sadly, they didn't have the kulolo ice cream this time. I had it here before, and it was sooo good. Tiny little bits of kulolo in each bite. The customer service is always great here. Everyone is so nice, and they really appreciate your business. It's nice having a good Hawaiian place so near to home. We will be coming back. read more

Oahu Grill is an excellent Hawaiian Food Restaurant! It has all the selections and then some. They have a daily specials, like chicken and papaya soup, beef stew, beef tomato... They have combo plates with 2 or 3 choices. The portions are very nice and for foodies like me I enjoy more than a few tablespoons. My Aunt had the laulau and the salt meat with watercress. The laulau was especially yummy because it had a lot of the luau leaves and the watercress with salt meat wasn't too salty but it was delicious! I had the soup too , with said luau and tripe stew! Squid luau is my favorite ! They make it with lots of coconut milk and the squid is tender! The tripe stew is very tastey and well prepared so the tripe has a perfect consistency. I must say the reason we go back is not just the food but the service is always very pleasant. Like you're at someone's home. read more

I liked Oahu Grill a lot. The food is better than most Hawaiian Food restaurants. The quantity of food is generous and there is ample parking in the Kaimuki municipal lot. The owner, cooks and wait staff are all Hawaiian or part Hawaiian. When I traveled to Alaska I would have liked to meet an Eskimo. On an Indian Reservation I would like to meet Indians. This is a Hawaiian Restaurant owned and staffed by Hawaiians. I had the combination plate which included laulau, kalua pork, squid luau, lomi.salmon, fresh poi and haupia for desert. That costed about $27. A luau at a Waikiki hotel would he about $100 per person. The hotel luau It .would normally include a hula show. The Oahu Grill for not have hula dancers. I recommend Oahu Grill for broke da mouth authentic Hawaiisn food. read more

I normally don't write reviews but I had to for this place because I was SO disappointed. We took out from here for the first time, and thought that it would be really good because of how many positive reviews this place has! But once we got our food...I was shocked at how little food this place gives! It's completely unbelievable. $15 for the salt meat soup plate and literally only 3 PCs of meat in the tiny bowl they give (2 PCs were entirely fat) so basically just 1 regular piece of meat!! Absolutely ridiculous. My toddler could literally finish this plate. The haupia is also bite size that you could eat in 1 bite. We also got the combo plate with lechon and laulau. It was decent...but not worth $21 whatsoever. The sauce for the lechon is sour like straight apple cider vinegar...very strange tasting. Lomi salmon could be finished in 2-3 bites. That's how small the portion is. AND supposedly regular plates should come with 2 scoops rice but they only gave 1 scoop for each regular plate we got. Overall VERY VERY disappointed and will not come back to this place. Waste of money. read more

Oahu Grill is a little hole in the wall nestled in the Kaimuki Municipal parking lot (the old Hanks Place). If you want to get away from the city and want to make your opu happy...try this place. The server Julie is nice as most locals are and gets pretty excited about you being there. She may turn you on to her ono lilikoi or guava flavored chili pepper water; both were such a delight! We always have a good feeling there and when we leave as well. With no cares in the world, the Hawaiian music gets me aroused; chew, smack, rock in my chair! I am an advocate for supporting local as much as possible. Today was our second visit; we like it here. We selected the combination plate of 1) laulau, chicken long rice and squid luau (creamy, not sweet); and 2) tripe stew, kalua pig and pipikaula - all with exceptional sides. In addition to the combos, we ordered the daily special of beef stew (Hawaiian style without tomato sauce which I love). Everything was divine and thoughtfully prepared. Would I go back? Absolutely! Great for locals and tourist. Just remember to wear loose fitting clothes; youll need a nap soon after. Also, sit beneath a fan. Prices are fair and reasonable. Parking is abundant and cost us .75 at the booth. If youre coming from Waikiki its a short Uber ride. Lastly, if you are on the central or west side of the island you can visit their ohana at Westside Bar & Grill in Kapolei. Mahalo nui loa. read more

Been meaning to try this for a while and I finally got the chance to go. Got take out and they were very quick and efficient with taking my order and getting it out. I think I was in and out within 10mins. Got the combo plate w/ lau lau and chicken long rice. Lau Lau was a little dry but was still pretty good. I really liked their chicken long rice and lomi salmon. However, I feel like $21 for a combo plate is kinda expensive. The regular plates are roughly $12-15 I believe which is pretty reasonable though. read more

Auwe!!! What a rip off!! Ordered takeout through Bite Squad at got the Lau Lau plate. For $22 I got the tiniest cup of poi, small Lau Lau and some lomi salmon. The taste was ok but it definitely wasn't worth the price. They couldn't even give a piece of haupia. This is the stingiest Hawaiian plate I ever had. I'll never eat here again, Highway Inn is way better and gives more. read more

3.5 Stars. I'm basing this review on only one dish that I tried. I had a hankering for tripe stew and since Yelp had it ranked high I decided to give OG a try. A 16 oz. bowl cost $12, so I opted for the plate which was $15.50. The plate comes with a smaller 8 oz. bowl, but comes with lomi lomi salmon, a little bit of poi and haupia. The tripe stew was pretty decent and didn't have an overpowering tomato sauce taste. There was a good tripe to vegetable ratio, but the bowl was too small. I was still hungry after finishing the bowl. The lomi lomi salmon was good and not too salty with fresh tomatoes and onions. I just came from Hanalei and ate some fresh Hanalei poi, so the poi that comes with the plate left a lot to be desired. I didn't eat the haupia as I'm not a big dessert fan. Chili pepper water was on point. Parking is in a municipal lot, so this adds to your cost especially if you're doing take out. I would rate them with 4 stars, but the size of the tripe stew bowl was merely a tease and it left me wanting more. I'll probably try this place again and get two bowls of the 16 oz. tripe stew. read more

I had some contractors working on my house and I wanted to feed them something hearty. Well, that was just my excuse anyway to order a lot of Hawaiian food! Oahu Grill hit the spot. Prices are good here and it was very convenient to order online. They even ask you for how many utensils and chili pepper waters you want! They have a full menu with combos available and also a daily special menu. Everyone enjoyed their plate lunches. The laulau was delicious and not too salty. Kalua pig was also excellent. Smoked meat was okay. I wouldn't order the salt meat and watercress soup again--the portion was tiny and the soup was not flavorful and was very salty. I had been missing the salt meat soup from Ono's and sadly, I will continue to miss it. Also, don't bother with the Mac salad. It's bland. I think here if you stick to the basics, you will come out a winner. read more

I accidentally stumbled upon this place while heading to BCD. It's a cute place, and seats more than I would have expected just by looking thru the front door. It's a nice little family restaurant. I had a three choice plate- lau lau, pipikaula (bone-in) and salt meat watercress with rice, lomi salmon, haupia. The food was awesome and customer service was sweet and attentive. I would definitely visit this place again. read more

We picked the 3 item combo with Squid Lau Lau, watercress meat soup and tripe stew. All dishes were perfectly seasoned and went wonderfully with the white rice. This was little bit away from our resort but with all the rave reviews we thought we would give it a try. My friend got the Kalua pig and I got the smoked meat. Both were delicious! The portions were huge! Definitely enough food for 2 meals! We didn't care too much for the lomi salmon but everything else was really good. Prices aren't the cheapest but I would pay that again to eat here. read more

I almost never forget to take photos but I was to excited to dig in and eat authentic and not hacked Hawaiian food. I must say it was excellent. Poi was really good and you must eat the Kailua pork. One of my FAVORITE Hawaiian food places on island. Never disappoints. It's a little tricky to find (it's next to Earls in the Paul Mitchell parking lot!) but once you do, this place is amazing. Best squid luau. The perfect amount of coconut milk! The lomi salmon is perfect; not too salty, not too bland. And the haupia is SO GOOD. It has just the right consistency; not too firm like some haupia I've tried, but also not a watered down mess. Tastes like how haupia should be. This place is definitely worth trying! I believe the owner was the head chef of Waiahole Poi Factory for a long time (like 10+ years I think he told me), so if you like Waiahole, you'll definitely love this place. read more

I didn't see any solo meal price on the menu over $20, that girl told me that it is a Sunday special. Dined in and appreciated their efforts to keep the tables apart with the Covid guidelines. Currently you need a reservation so if you just walk in to dine they may not be able to accommodate you, so plan ahead! Felt very comfortable with the spacing. Staying in Waikiki and I've tried many places. This place has the best and most authentic food I've had so far. We had the pork belly, squid luau, tripe stew, and chicken long rice. Meet the Business Owner: Johnny A.

Johnny started cooking as a teenager growing up on Molokai learning family recipes from his Uncle George and his Grandma Koa. He learned to prepare Hawaiian food and other local dishes the same way it was done generations ago. Johnny worked at several Hawai`i bars and restaurants, starting out at the well-known Pau Hana Inn on the Friendly Isle of Molokai. Most recently, he served as the head cook at Waiahole Poi Factory on the windward side of O`ahu.

OMG finally we found an authentic Hawaiian Food to die for!!! I took my family and a friend to Oahu Grill Restaurant for dinner last night and everyone truly enjoyed the food. The place is clean, the owner and staff were very friendly, especially the food were delicious!!! and the price are very reasonable. Each of us had a dinner combo that comes with poi, lomi salmon and haupia. We have choise of two entrees for each combo and so we decided to pick different type of entrees so we can share, and WOW veverything were delicious. Generally we dont each much salad at home but since the owner recommended their own creation, the Island Cobb Salad with Kalua Pig, OMG this is a must try, it was so good, everyone went crazy for the salad. We hightly recommed everyone to try out this resturant. We live on the West side of the Island, Ewa Beach, but it was well worth driving for good food and will definitely go back. This resturant was not hard to find. It's located at 1137 11th avenue, the eatery area in Kaimukai. If you are coming from Waikiki or Honolulu turn right on the 11th avenue, you will see Oahu Grill resturant sign on the left hand side, drive forward just little more and you will see parking sign, turn left into parking (big parking lot). read more

Yesterday was the 18th anniversary of my wife, so I was planning a romantic dinner. So, I immediately searched for a perfect and delicious place. I ask my brother, and he suggests this place. I didn't hesitate to get a reservation, but I checked the reviews before making a reservation. Delicious food and parking make for a good dining experience with attentive waitstaff. Notable dishes include tripe stew, kalua pig, luau with squid, and laulau. Having this option is a wonderful touch. We enjoyed our food while talking. This place is worth a penny. Our server recommended eating the main entree and lomi salmon with poi, a fermented taro paste. Judging by how it looked, I thoroughly expected the poi to be sweet, but it was actually much more sour, almost like yogurt. I didn't enjoy it too much on its own, but it worked incredibly well with the pork lau lau. The pork was mostly tender and juicy, with a fragrant, leafy steamed flavor that reminded me of the Chinese zong zi my mom makes. The leaner parts of the pork were a bit dry, but the steamed taro leaves helped. The lomi salmon (salted salmon mixed with onions and tomatoes) was refreshing, although the pungent raw onions were a bit much for me. The 'uala (steamed sweet potatoes) had a natural, earthy sweetness that we all enjoyed. Lastly, the haupia (coconut pudding) was incredibly tasty, with a strong coconut flavor that made me sad when I took my last bite. One of my friends got the chicken lau lau, which we actually enjoyed even more. The chicken was delicious, and there was so much of it.
