First of all, the Monarch Oysters are an absolute must try. Raw oysters are one of my favorite dishes but when you add quail egg and caviar, wow, just wow. AMAZING! I would go back just for that dish in itself. Service was excellent. Attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable. Plus, the manager stopped by to make sure everything was to our liking and even made dessert recommendations. Nice touch. The carrot cake dessert was delicious. Plus, their "skinny" gin drinks were yummy and so fresh. The only reason I'm giving them 4 stars instead of 5 is because the Filet Mignon was a little disappointing. It was only warm when we got it and honestly it was a little overcooked and chewy. Not what I would've expected at such a fine establishment. Maybe next time we'll try one of their fish dishes. Maybe steak isn't their forte?

Located inside Monarch Hotel in the heart of San Antonio Downtown, Oak & Amber brings to you an exquisite experience. When you walk in, the first thing you see is the gorgeous bar, with beautiful lighting and comfortable lounge area. Then you turn right and your eyes are welcomed by smooth and soft architectural lines coming down from the ceiling, dimmed lights and a fascinating open kitchen. I ordered an espresso martini, and I loved it, it had Mexican chocolate, delicious! Let's talk food.. the chef sent a palate cleanser, a tinny radish covered with spinach cream, the most interesting combination of ingredients, and if you wonder if it was good, I loved it! We began with the perfect appetizer choice: Caviar for Purists, with chives, hard boiled eggs, red onion, franchisee cream and dollar pancakes, so delightful. For main course the Wagyu NY Strip, Bacon Veiled Salmon and Lobster & Macaroni Au Gratin with the best asparagus I have ever had, the Wood Fire Jumbo Asparagus, the glazing was the special touch. Everything was cooked to perfection, and tasted even better, it was an exquisitely perfect diner. The service is good, Justin our server was knowledgeable and guided us through the menu, I would say that sometimes he will take little too long to come and check on us. Reservation is a must and there is valet. Price range $$$ per person.

The steak is cooked to perfection. The rigatoni is delicious as well. The carrot cake was rich! Everyone was nice and attentive. I had the best experience and everyone does a great job at coming to your table to introduce themselves and to ask if you need anything. I love the attention to details. The bar is beautiful and this hotel has the earthy tones. I love the Monarch butterfly theme throughout the hotel. They also have a Rolls Royce in the front and it's for hotel guests! The driver was so friendly and nice and let me know everything about it, you just need to consult with the concierge. So fancy!

Smashin Crab has hosted so many of our family celebrations at this point that it's basically part…read moreof the guest list. Birthdays, random cravings, "we survived the week" dinners & you name it, we've probably celebrated it here. The vibe is casual, fun, and laid-back, which is exactly what you want when you're about to put on a bib and commit to a seafood boil. And yes, that is exactly what you should do here because the boils never miss. The seafood is always fresh, the sauces are flavorful, and the spice levels are not playing around. My recommendation? Stick with level 2 unless you enjoy sweating through your meal and reevaluating your life choices. My go-to combo is mussels, shrimp, crab legs, potatoes, boiled egg, and veggies. And before anybody gets suspicious about the veggies in a seafood boil, hear me out, they absolutely belong there. They soak up all that buttery, spicy sauce and add something extra to the whole experience. Don't skip them. Also, get the flights. They're fun, they're good, and they make an already good time even better. Smashin Crab is one of those places we keep coming back to because it's reliable in the best way: good seafood, great flavor, and the kind of meal that feels like an event every time.

Jenn was our server, and she was amazing very attentive, informative, and provided great service throughout our visit. The ambiance was a fun, lively vibe with music playing, and the restaurant was clean. The happy hour menu had a great selection, with everything from shrimp boils to cocktails. We started with the 1/2 dozen chargrilled oysters ($19.12) and the Smash'd Margarita Flight ($11 during happy hour). Chargrilled Oysters: 8.5/10 The oysters were cooked in garlic butter and Parmesan and served with crispy toast. The toast was definitely a highlight for me it added such a good texture and paired really well with the oysters. I would absolutely order these again! Smash'd Margarita Flight: (9/10) This was a fun way to get a taste of the different margaritas they offer. The prickly pear was my favorite of the flight! Shrimp Boil: (10/10) For our main meal, we ordered the shrimp boil from the happy hour menu and added a few extras. I loved how customizable the boils were. They have a great variety of add-ons, from broccoli to ramen noodles, and you can also choose your seasoning and spice level. Overall, we had a great experience. Good food, a fun atmosphere, plenty of options, and great service from Jenn. We'll definitely be back and those chargrilled oysters will be making another appearance at the table! I recommend a different restaurant. There are ones for this price for cheaper in the city that have…read morefar better food. The food feels like the chefs were given good quality materials, but had no idea what to do with them. We ordered a funghi pizza to share then a cinghiale, a costine (short ribs), and a dentice (bass). Funghi pizza was the only dish that made coming worth it at all. It had a nice flavor, but if you're expecting the notes of an earthy mushroom flavor, don't. It's just a nicer version of a standard cheese pizza topped with some onions and mushroom. The cinghiale was just stunningly mediocre. The meat was flavorful, but the pasta itself was shockingly bland. It was just so... ok. The dentice was the best of the 3 individual dishes, but it is just what you would expect some average short ribs with random sauce to taste. The costine was just terrible. Salty on the outside, yet flavorless on the inside. Avoid at all costs. The service was passable, but they clearly overwork their servers as one server just handles an entire section and is too overwhelmed to be timely. I came to cheer myself up, but honestly it only made dinner comically worse. I seriously can't imagine what would cause someone to rate this as 5 stars. Maybe if they thought Olive Garden was 4.5, then I guess this would barely be a 5 in comparison? Either way, if you're looking for good food for your dinner, keep looking. You won't find it here.
