We came here to celebrate a special occasion, looking for a fine steak. Walking in with a reservation on this weeknight, we were promptly seated. The decor and ambiance was exactly what we were looking for, and service was excellent throughout the meal. For starters, we ordered the table bread, which was not complementary but was absolutely delicious and fluffy and worth it. As for entrees, my wife ordered the 16 oz ribeye and I ordered the 14 oz NY Strip. Unfortunately, the steaks were just about the only part of the meal that I found disappointing - medium rare was closer to medium, there wasn't as much marbling of the steak that I'd like (perhaps personal preference), but most of all, neither steak (and I tried some of my wife's for good measure) was anywhere near as juicy as expected. The salt and pepper seasoning was a little light on the steak, but this actually paired fairly well with the extra salty creamed NC collards, a Southern spin on a typical creamed spinach you'd find at a steakhouse. Word of advice, consider what you're pairing the collard greens with since it is very salty after all. The waiter had recommend a hearty helping of the bone marrow frites and it didn't disappoint. And finally, we were served a complementary key lime pie to celebrate our occasion and this was delicious as well. To wrap it up, we spent a fair amount and everything was up to or exceeding my expectations ... except the steaks. Setting: Located in Glenwood conveniently near a parking garage. The ambience is a more modern take on a steakhouse. With lots of dark rich colors surrounded by large windows. Food: We started off with a bone marrow appetizer, which was a perfect size for two people. The bread was toasted perfectly, and the bone marrow melted beautifully along with the complementary jam. For our entrées, we ordered the 8 ounce filet mignon and 14 ounce New York strip. Both steaks had black truffle butter on top. One was ordered, medium rare, and the other one medium. Both were cooked perfectly and had a nice sear. The fillet was exceptionally tender. The New York strip was bounding with flavor. Our side dishes included the mashed potatoes and mac & cheese. The mashed potatoes were definitely my favorite while the mac & cheese was good; however, it was more unorthodox with a jalapeño flavor. For dessert the apple soufflé takes about 15min to prepare and was worth the wait. It was fluffy and delicious. As for drinks we had a smoked Manhattan which was wonderful and a Vieux Carre. Came here for a business dinner. I have been to Oak in Charleston (a sister restaurant), and this was equally excellent. I had the crispy Brussels sprouts and the endive salad as a starter, and lamb chops for the main. Everything was outstanding, though the lamb chops were extremely small, especially given the price, and the fact that I could get 2x as much filet mignon on the same menu for the same price. I walked away from this meal still hungry, and regretting that I didn't get a steak instead. It is classy inside, typical steakhouse with dim lighting and dark wood everywhere and perfect staff. My fiancé and I came here for my birthday celebration and we could not have been more pleased. The food was so incredible, from start to finish we enjoyed every bite. The service was amazing, everyone there that took care of us seamlessly worked together to make sure we were 100% taken care of at all times. The recommendations on food were perfect, our server even offered to have the creamed collards comped since he recommended it and we weren't too sure. They gave us dessert on them as well as the collards and a glass of wine. While this spot is a bit pricey for an every weekend sort of date night, it was incredibly worth it for a once in a while treat yourself. Attire seems to be business casual, although there were a few people dressed in jeans and T-shirts as well. We will definitely be back, hopefully for next years celebration! read more

They have a decent (but overpriced) whiskey selection. Our waiter was very friendly and attentive and overall service as excellent. The restaurant was very clean. You knew it was a nice place but not too stuffy. Steaks were cooked perfectly (which I've learned is not a given even at expensive steakhouses). In April, my parents came to visit for my birthday, and we did a joint birthday dinner. They were visiting from out of town, and I got to choose the restaurant. I picked this spot and OMG did this restaurant knock it out of the park. The day after I made the reservation, the restaurant concierge (yes, they have a concierge) reached out to me to inquire as to our interests so they could add some special touches to the evening. I won't say what those special touches are, as I don't want to ruin the magic. But that was the first impression I got. Then when we showed up, the hostess knew who we were, the special occasion we were celebrating, and warmly welcomed us. They showed us to our table which had nice message welcoming us for our special occasion. Our waitress was phenomenal and allowed us to take our time selecting our courses, and answered our questions knowledgeably. She timed all of our courses perfectly, and everything came out hot and fresh. She had a wonderful personality and took the time to chat with us throughout the night. Lastly, the general manager left a huge impression on me and my parents. I am not exaggerating when I say that he made us feel like were were best friends in high school and that he personally invited us to come dine in his restaurant. He made my parents feel very valued and special. And my dad, who is almost perpetually displeased with service at restaurants, kept saying how we needed to write a review about how wonderful the manager, staff, and food was. Dang, Oak. The only complaint I have is that you've probably ruined all other steakhouses for us because you've set the bar so incredibly high. read more

The food was great! Husband and I had the NC shrimp cocktail, Yukon gold mashed potatoes, bone marrow frites, and he also had the 16oz prime boneless ribeye. My daughter and I chose to have a lovely dinner at Oak Steakhouse on a beautiful weekday evening before going to see a show at The Duke Energy Center for Performing Arts. She then gave us time to look over the menu. She shared with us the mouthwatering specials, and then took our order. We were so excited to enjoy this experience. They were also pretty large in size, so that was exciting. They were so good we wished we had ordered a dozen. For our entrees, I order the Beef Wellington which was one of the specials, and my daughter had the smoked Peking Duck Breast. We ordered sides of roasted mushrooms and the bone marrow frites. The entrees and the bone marrow frites were amazing. The roasted mushrooms and the Mac and Cheese were just ok. I asked for an aioli to dip my fries in, and Serene suggested their freshly, made daily béarnaise, it was perfect! We were stuffed, but couldn't resist dessert. The 14 oz Prime Boneless NY Strip was cooked to perfection (med rare), and the au Poivre sauce was so exceptional that I had to ask for a second helping. I have been to this restaurant several times for business dinner meetings, and it never disappoints with its good selection of drinks and food. I ordered the dry-rubbed ribeye steak (photo), and it was juicy and with the perfect amount of salt. Our server was professional and friendly. Also, be ready to pay top $. It's a bit pricey but totally worth it in my opinion. What could be better: 1. Street parking is limited near the restaurant. I ordered the 10oz hanger steak and it was cooked perfectly!! My friend ordered the dry aged bone-in-ribeye, and it was cooked to perfection...worth every penny of that $110 price tag. We tried the NC collards and the crispy brussels sprouts for side dishes, and both were tasty and paired well with our entrees. Surely, we had leftovers the next day! We love Oak Steakhouse so much - not just because of the ambiance or food but because of the people too! We have lived nearby for years and it became a staple since its opening. So much so, we had a private event there (a small wedding dinner in their private room). Their cocktails are the best - definitely opt for the blue cheese stuffed olives in your martini, which they'll include at no extra charge if you want them! Our favorite dishes are the steak frites, pasta dishes, and the beer/burger/fries special they recently brought back post-pandemic (call for current info - I think it's M-F, at the bar from 5-6 or 7pm?). This is just your average dimly-lit steakhouse. I am not a fan of it either. I feel like they are overpriced and their portions are absolutely awful. Their sides state they are "for the table." If you look at my picture you can see that the side of mac and cheese and mashed potatoes is a side big enough for BARELY one person! I could get a whole LARGE bowl of good mac for that price anywhere else. We were all so surprised to see this. The mashed potatoes was a super small portion too. This is honestly the first steakhouse I've seen with sides so small. The biggest side, and worst dish, was the brussels sprouts. They were bitter and crispy rather than lightly fried with a hint of sweetness. Just not good and described by my vegan partner as "the worst brussels sprouts ever." The rolls which you strangely have to pay for was sadly the best part of our meal. I will say that our friend enjoyed their hanger steak though. read more

In short, Incredibly overrated. We decided to celebrate our sons 18th birthday here - terrible decision. Pros: nice ambience and the waiter was great. Con's: uncomfortable chairs, the Mac and cheese literally had no taste and finally all steaks (different cuts) were barely edible. I felt guilty spending so much on a steak and not eating it, but I just couldn't eat it. All four of us were so disappointed and none of us understood the hype this restaurant receives. Had a wonderful dinner at Oak Steakhouse. My brother-in-law was visiting so we decided to check it out. We knew we were taking a risk bringing our 9-month-old to a fancy steakhouse in the evening. We called and confirmed with the host that children were allowed and he was more than accommodating in our request. When we arrived they offered to bring us a high chair and our waiter was so kind to our daughter - very chatty and friendly to her which I think helped her feel right at home. We got a few *looks* from other patrons but the Oak Steakhouse staff never made us feel awkward about having a baby with us. Don't make a mistake and not order the Parkerhouse Rolls. They were warm, fluffy, and perfectly salted and I wish we ordered another round. My husband and I both ordered NY Strips and my brother-in-law got the filet mignon. Both steaks were delicious. We shared a few "sides for the table" - yukon gold mashed potatoes and crispy brussels sprouts. We all agreed that the crispy brussels sprouts were amazing, but felt that the mashed potatoes weren't the best. They needed more salt or an herb to add more flavor. What a great experience at the Oak Steakhouse! We rolled into Raleigh this afternoon with no reservations. We are staying in Raleigh just for one night so we need to do some research. Of course we review Yelp. Our top two restaurants are Death and Taxes and Oak Steakhouse. D&T had a private event and was closed. Oak had no openings according to Open Table. I called Oak and spoke with the GM Nicholas. He confirmed they were booked and our best bet is to sit at a high top in the bar. He said he would reserve a high top at 5pm for us. We showed up at 5:10 and Nicholas said he was able to get us a table in the dining room. We were seated and instantly our server Paul greeted us. And so our night began. We started with a cocktail. My wife had the 'show me the honey' and I had the Smokey Manhattan. Both were expertly crafted. I've attached a video of Paul serving my Smokey Manhattan. Very cool presentation. Next we received their house made rolls. Easy. Perfect. My wife and I also split a Caesar Salad for our next course. Here is when the magic started to happen. This was no ordinary Caesar. Grilled romaine, deep fried white anchovy and a well balanced dressing that was better than the thousand previous Caesars that I have had. It was the best salad I've ever had! Our entrees were a filet for my wife and a ribeye for myself. Both grilled to the correct temperature. Oak's chef Todd Wood is truly an expert at his craft. As we've heard about Ashley Christensen in Raleigh, Todd Wood should be considered in Ashley's class. All courses have used fire/grill in their creations. Truly amazing flavor and craftsmanship. We were stuffed and had Paul wrap up 2 desserts for the road. This was a top 10 lifetime dining experience based upon the quality and execution of the food and craft cocktails for my wife and I. I came here for my anniversary; this was one of the few nicer restaurants in Raleigh that was open on a Monday. Everyone we encountered was nice. When I made the reservation, they did ask for an occasion, but they didn't do anything for us during dinner so not sure why even ask. I ordered the beef Wellington since I had never had it before. I'm probably not the best person to judge since I'm not a big red meat eater, but overall the dish was ok, however, the sauce was AMAZING! My husband, who's a big red meat eater, said his steak was just ok. We ordered the creamed collards (I believe it was seasonal) and definitely recommend- so creamy and a little smoky. That was the most memorable dish of the night for me. The bone marrow frites were good. I was excited to try the deviled eggs with fried oysters. I thought it was a bit over the top and found that they ate like 2 separate items versus a cohesive dish. It was an overall pleasant experience, but they did not make my "go-to" list and would try out new restaurants before returning. read more

The vibe is interesting in that the interior is more of a "chic business casual" vibe (you'd likely feel overdressed if you came in a full suit or especially dressy outfit) but the food feels very high end. We splurged and tried quite a few cocktails, but my favorite was the Professor Utonium (a smoky, lightly spicy, vaguely fruity drink that was an amazing ride of flavors). While $3 for a single deviled egg or one oyster rockefeller might feel a little steep, it was also nice to be able to get just one a piece to try. I honestly wish more places did this so you could get sample-type tastes without having to commit to a full plate. The egg wasn't really exciting for me but the oyster was delicious! We split the bone marrow appetizer. It was really good and definitely something I'd recommend. I got the squash salad, which featured a brown butter vinaigrette. The server who brought it joked that it was so good he'd eat it on a shoe and he wasn't wrong. The salad has great elements but that dressing will haunt me. So freaking tasty! We went basic with our entrees (I went steak frites, my husband went burger) and got a side of brussel sprouts on a whim. The bone marrow fries that came with both were DELICIOUS and have probably spoiled other fries for me. And the brussel sprouts were delicious but huge (as a "side for the table" it def could have prob served 3-4 people). I mean wow! The service, food, drinks, everything was fantastic. Our server, Casey, was awesome, and really made the whole experience. She helped us choose cocktails, and we went with the old fashioned and lavender (?) something. Both were so good! She even brought over a sample of their oyster deviled eggs for us to try! So sweet! I personally don't care for deviled eggs, but these were so tasty. For food, we had the rolls (to die for!), rib eye, bouillabaisse, and mashed potatoes. My only complaint with the bouillabaisse was the base, it was not rich in flavor but the seafood was amazing. Definitely a pricey dinner, but everything was so good. Also, Nick (the manager) was so nice! Came to check on us as well as other tables and sat us 30 minutes before our reservation because we arrived early. read more

I planned my boyfriend's retirement party here, and everything was seamless--from the initial planning to the day of the event. Hannah was incredibly responsive and helpful throughout the coordination process, and our server, Kirst, was so kind and attentive. Truly one of the best servers I've ever had. The restaurant left a thoughtful congratulatory note on the table for him, which was such a nice touch. The general manager stopped by our table and congratulated him personally.
