A delightful little find, worthy of the drive from New Buffalo and beyond! Our New Buffalo hotel stopped offering weekday breakfast (just "burritos in a bag to go") so off we went to find a new breakfast place. Spousal unit found Oaks Eatery and said "let's go!", so off we went. She has bad food allergies and I'm happy to report that Oaks was able to accomodate her and make her smile. Really nice quaint place for breakfast or lunch. My girlfriends and I were spending a weekend at Four Winds. We were tired of being in the casino and found this place on Yelp. About 10 mins away. Read about this place, and it was a short detour on my way to Chicago. Biscuits & Gravy, over easy eggs, pork sausage. Note the gravy is beige, not white. Homemade, not "country gravy" mix. Color is a dead giveaway on this. White gravy is either a mix, or an undercooked roux. This is the real deal. Gravy is salty, with lots of crumbled sausage. Delicious. Adding the over easy eggs on top tempers that salt a bit. Eggs cooked as requested. Sausage links are fat, crispy and of a shape that means local, rather than chain distribution. I asked, but the server didn't know. Too bad, because it is beautifully seasoned and flavorful. I'd buy some to take home! Coffee is strong and served scaldingly hot - you have been warned! Vegetarian friendly, too, but not for me today. Priced like a Bob Evans, but the breakfast is better - Midwestern heresy, I know, but I calls 'em like I sees 'em. Excellent food. Seen a write up in the Harbor Country News featuring restaurants in the area re-opening. We live in the next town over and didn't know of this place, been stuck at home because of the COVID garbage, place only been here a couple years. Read many of the reviews on this place so we figured lets stop in for breakfast. When we arrived there was only two tables occupied so we had good choice of seating. The menu had a mix of American and Mexican cuisine. My choice was a standard 2 eggs over easy, and I had a choice of bacon which included Duck Bacon. I love duck but bacon?...well the waitress talked me into it and I was not disappointed. Breakfast was perfect. My wife expanded her fare for the Huevos Ala Benedicta. Now the Mrs never having chorizo thought it was pretty good.....a little on the spicy side but good. She could not finish the second half of her Benedict so I obliged to her plate. I thought this was pretty good as well. Small little store front place which looks like they have outdoor seating available come nicer weather. Staff was prompt and courteous. We noticed only one waitress and one bus service. While we were eating, the place started to be pretty busy. Other reviews said service was slow, I timed from order to served, 13 minutes. Not bad but again there were only a couple of tables occupied. This area gets pretty crowded come spring/summer. Hope they staff up. We definitely will be back, food was good. read more

My family and I stopped here on our way back to chicago after having a winery hopping weekend. We are so glad we did. We had 7 adults and 1 baby and were seated immediately. There were 2 servers so they were short staffed, but they were still nice, friendly and didn't rush us. The food was SO GOOD. They have one of those menus where you're trying to decide between at least 4 things to order. They had an outdoor area but because they had only the 2 servers we couldn't sit out there. I had the breakfast sandwich on a bagel with Turkey sausage, my dad had pancakes which he raves about, and another person had the breakfast tacos that looked & smelled amazing. Just average. Anything with spinach has an excessive amount. Avacado toast was just a sliced avacado, not in a paste. Goat cheese thing I had was either a bite of an excessive amount of goat cheese or an excessive amount of spinach. It was mostly bland and didn't enjoy it. read more

My husband and I came here for breakfast a few weeks ago passing through the area, and made the trip again today because it is just THAT good. I normally stay away from biscuits & gravy from restaurants, because I don't want canned gravy on a frozen biscuit... however/ when I looked at the menu and saw a note next to the biscuits & gravy saying it would take around 18 minutes for preparation... SOLD. It was AMAZING. 10/10. The biscuits were made fresh, and the gravy just as fresh. My husband had the chocolate chip pancakes, and they were fantastic. Fluffy, fresh, plenty of chocolate chips. Today I tried the breakfast sandwich with their jalapeño sausage- ingredients are from local sources, and you can absolutely tell the difference. The service was absolutely amazing both times visiting, and we had different waitresses each time. Very attentive and friendly. Highly recommend!!! read more

The staff was very accommodating with our friend with pork allergies - she was able to get a pork skillet subbed with chicken sausage and loved it. Our server was attentive and friendly, and we probably chit chatted with everyone working there because they were so amazingly approachable. The patio was dog friendly, and it looked like they drew a good sized crowd on Saturday morning. The jams and salsa are homemade and taste like it - peach raspberry jam was the favorite among the jams offered. We looked for another option, and came across Oak's Eatery on Yelp. We saw 5 stars and decided to give it a try. I'm so glad we did! The staff is welcoming, friendly, and attentive. The food was delicious; fresh, great portion size, wonderful varied menu with both gluten free and vegan options. I asked how long they had been here and our server (who I found out is also the wife and mother of the two cooks) told me that they'd only been here for four months. The owner, Kayla, might just be the rudest, most unprofessional human being I have ever encountered. She essentially went crazy on us over a simple seating error (their error, btw) that could have easily been resolved, had she had an ounce of patience. If nothing else, it is apparent she is easily flustered and angers far too easily, which aren't great characteristics for someone who has chosen a profession where you have to deal with people. We've enjoyed this place in the past and have referred many friends, but we won't be doing that any longer. If you care about how you are treated, this might not be the place for you. As a resident of the area, I can tell you there are plenty of better spots - Viola's right down the street, for example. read more

I came to Oaks Eatery on a recommendation. I ordered the special which was the goat cheese quesadilla and my husband ordered the huevos rancheros. Both were very good. And as a treat we ordered a pancake to share which was one of the best pancakes I've ever had. But......Twice we asked for a glass of ice to go with the coke we ordered and finally we asked a different server who finally brought it to us. Then I had to ask a few times for more water. There only seemed to be one person that knew how to work the register which meant she couldn't tend to her tables while people paid their check. My family and I were visiting from out of town and stopped by for brunch. The food here was outstanding. We ordered a variety off the menu including sandwiches, biscuits and gravy, a breakfast burrito, and the sweet potato waffle. There are only two marked gluten free options, one being the sweet potato waffle. The waffle was the standout item, it was so delicious even my non gluten free family members were taking bites and talking about how great it was. All of the staff members were kind and attentive. Yummy! A wonderfully different breakfast menu compared to other Harbor Country spots. Especially if you like Mexican-influenced items. I had the Eggs Benedict as a benchmark and the eggs were perfectly poached and the Hollandaise was delicious. Added some of the homemade hot sauce and my mouth is still smiling.
