I was pleasantly surprised by this little Melbourne beach establishment. I came here with my parents while visiting them and had a pretty great meal. I was impressed by the seasonal menu that the chef prepares and their standard dishes. To start we got the fiddlehead and mushroom dish from the specials menu. It was served with grilled bread and was delicious-probably the highlight of the meal. I got the duck special which was cooked perfectly but I felt could be a little simplified-too much going on on the plate. My mom got the shorty's pasta which she has had before but this time she was disappointed-it was cold and a bit too fatty. Our server was amazing! He knew the menu in and out and described the dishes with such eloquence. I don't even get the service we got at top of the line restaurants in philly where I live. The decor could really have been better. You could tell they tried to make it farm to table but the tables and chairs/random artwork/lighting clashed with anything along those lines. Not your typical beach side restaurant. The interior is very new with a cool trendy vibe with a nice bar and beautiful pizza oven in the background. The menu is quite diverse with steaks, chops, seafood, sandwiches and pizza's which normally can be a disaster at many places; this however is a culinary expert who takes a lot of pride in fresh ingredients, beautiful plating, and mouth watering food . They make their own mozzarella, salad dressing and even their own ketchup to let you know right away this is farm to table at its finest. I tried the Pork and beans which was a perfectly cooked chop and aside of beans that was amazing. The fish sandwich was a beautiful piece of flaky white cod bursting with flavor. My only regret is that we only had a party of two and i would have loved to been able to sample some of the other dishes. They do have a full bar, with dozens of different beers. Prices are a little higher than the typical beach cafe as they should be considering the quality of the ingredients. Look forward to coming back soon! read more

To all fellow foodie's... Ocean 302, may be the best restaurant in town. This place is not messing around, the quality of the ingredients and the forward thinking menu is top notch (kudos to the executive and sous chef). Every food component we had was cooked and prepared perfectly and made me feel like I was back in culinary school training, cooking, and eating alongside well respected chef's. This is a place that seriously respects the art of culinary and is very accessible, unlike all the world's best restaurant's you see on those cable food networks. There was not a single fail the entire night. From being greeted at the door to finally paying the check (almost four hours later), the wait staff was on point (lots of front of house teamwork) and my group never felt rushed. The restaurant's atmosphere is clean, dimly lit, modern, and (good) trendy. They offer a full seating area mixing both booths and high top tables, and also there are two bars, one for ordering drinks and another for food. And yes, they have a brick oven! Ocean 302's menu is extremely focused, refined, and easily presented. The dishes offered feature both untraditional & traditional menu items, all wonderfully put together. Flashes of classical french culinary practices stand out and are infused throughout innovative food concepts, but it also never neglects the tried and true dishes, that guests may come to expect. Simply reading the menu upon sitting down, had me completely excited for what was to come (see photos). Their specials/lto's were equally enticing... if only I could have ordered every single thing they offered. Every single dish we ordered was executed perfectly. There was not one bad component in the entire meal, seriously! I cannot stress enough how important a restaurant like this is... a kitchen filled with creative minds, ambitious cooks, and simple food practices. These guys are bringing simple concepts to fruition, such as using only the freshest, highest quality ingredients... gee, who would have ever thought this was a winning idea? While every other restaurant is busy reheating frozen food in their microwaves, Ocean 302 is busy winning and paying it forward to their guests, by offering a dining experience as rewarding as this. Additional notes: I believe they practice farm to table (don't quote me though), they also offer a tasting service hosted by the chef. You must call a few weeks in advance to arrange for that experience, basically you sit at the food bar and the head chef prepares you small portions of the many, many foods offered. Lastly, we were handed a special Mother's Day menu and also a beer/food pairing menu, each events meal plan looked amazing. So I just want to get across that Ocean 302 is very active outside of just being a restaurant with one menu set in stone. You can tell this staff is flexing their skill and having fun with their craft. Bravo 302. My apologies for the lighting in my photos, it does not do justice to this amazing restaurant. Also, I did not obtain pictures of the Charlie burger I ordered, nor did I photo the two special/lto desserts we ordered, Gooseberry Cobbler & Apple Fritter with Buttermilk Ice-cream on top. All three of which, were out of this world. I was plastered by this point and simply forgot to photo them, haha. We did a review of local restaurants and this came up as having good reviews and it was close to our location. We ordered appys Calamari, truffle fries, and pineapple pork belly. 1st the calamari was ok, it had mostly tentacles rather then the rings. The truffle fries were had a very nice flavor not burnt or over cooked. The Pineapple Pork belly, excellent, tender and a great taste. We decided to have the margarita pizza this was disappointing as the crust did not seem fully cooked as it was still doughy. We finished with a chocolate mousse cake this seemed more like a heavy 4 layer chocolate cake, I ate the top of the cake, just because it was chocolate, but not chocolate mousse. We did have the drinks and they were good, I did send back the mango drink, it had a weird taste, it was quickly replaced with a strawberry, which was very refreshing. The service was great and the resturant was clean and presentable. They do have a liquor menu that had a good selection for choosing. I would return again, but will not reorder the calamari, pizza, or chocolate mousse? cake. I did not take pictures for some reason, my bad. read more

My husband my 4 year old daughter and myself went for an early dinner. You are immediately greeted with a smile, and the decor is beach chic. The restaurant and bathrooms are very clean. The floor manager was friendly and most accommodating. My 4 year old had the Shrimp and Grits, held the spicy chorizo sausage on the side. I had the crab soup, my husband the French onion...Creamy and delicious. The wedge salad was one of the best we've ever had, I'll be going back for extra blue cheese; it's the best! We have come to this establishment many times and we've always been very impressed with the service and the food. When we have visitors in town we bring them here. Last night we came in and set in the open bar area. Several minutes passed without anyone coming over. We looked around and w/in seconds the GM had water sent over, came over and apologized and offered to pay for our round of drinks. He checked on us continuously throughout the night. Our real estate agents Jackie Griffin and Brittany Adamson said you have to try the 302 Grille. So with guests in town, we decided to try it. I had the pork chop with grilled brussel sprouts and a candied something along with apple sauce, very good. My husband liked his lamb chops, my brother in law loved the swordfish with skewer of prawns and my sister her local spinach salad with fruit and topped with steak. We all went home very well fed, especially after the campfire dessert with layers of different yummies. Our service was provided with suitable deadpan tongue in cheek commentary while above us played videos of top chefs making their favorites. Bathrooms were well cleaned. My family and I came here for a dinner after a long day on Melbourne beach. The grilled cheese was the best grilled cheese we have ever had. The burger was also fantastic. We also ordered the pig and fig pizza which was good, it had a sweet and savory taste, but the wood fired over gave it lots of flavor. Our server was courteous and brought us lots of lemonades and checked up on us often. The wifi however does not work. One little perk that we did discover was the mouthwash dispensers in he bathrooms! How cute! We recommend this for anyone looking for dinner in a modern chic restaurant. read more

Have gone here 4-5 times since I moved to FL just over a year ago. Food is always great. Tonight was the first night with a new menu and we were disappointed some of our favorites were no longer offered (shrimp n grits, short rib). I got the jerk shrimp. The flavors were fantastic however it was luke warm temperature. I didn't want to send back to get heated so I ate as was. The family got tuna and salmon and seemed to enjoy each. So one star off for less menu choices, no specials and temperature. read more

OH MY GOODNESS. HOW DOES THIS PLACE NOT HAVE 5 STARS?! The atmosphere is classy yet beachy and modern. Staff is super nice, especially our waitress we had!! She knew the entire menu from memory, was super helpful, replaced our silverware several times, constantly checked our drinks, and was just awesome! The manager also checked on us several times. The food is super good. Everything was awesome! Especially the death by chocolate cake. We were surprised that after drinks, appetizers, food, and desert, our bill was surprisingly low. Ate Thanksgiving dinner here. The food choices included traditional turkey, deep fried turkey, ham, and lamb. Everyone at our table ordered something different and it was all delicious. The food and the sides were all gourmet. The deserts were amazing. Pumpkin pie, eggnog cheesecake, and a chocolate tart with pecans. We had a god time and an awesome Thanksgiving dinner! We are new to the area, and we decided to eat at Ocean 302. We ordered a few appetizers, which were good. We also ordered the Smoked Old Fashioned, and while the drink was flavorful, the amount for the money was underwhelming. We ordered the aged filet, at market price, and it was so over cooked, we couldn't finish the whole steak. Our server asked if we wanted to send the filet back, and we declined because it took long for all of our meals to come out. Not one apology, or anything else to rectify the situation. I am rarely this disappointed when dining out, especially since Covid, but our experience was just that awful. Unfortunately, we won't be back. read more

Went here on Thanksgiving Day. The food was fantastic and the service was even better! Traditional fare was served but it was absolutely delicious! I have always liked brussel Sprouts but I have to say that anyone that can make me love them definitely gets two thumbs up from me! They were crazy good! The Cajun fried turkey was awesome...all of it was just incredible. There was some great 80's music playing, NFL, NHL etc on the big screens and a great beachy vibe flowing throughout... along with some imaginative and refreshing cocktails from the bar! Yes, it was a little pricey but worth every penny! Had I purchased everything needed to make Thanksgiving dinner it wouldn't have cost any less! This most certainly did happen at Ocean 302 in Melbourne Beach. The general manager should do a better job at knowing what's going on at his restaurant it seems. I was told that style of pizza is supposed to be doughy as they were staring at RAW dough. Should have been reimbursed for my tip and gas money as well. read more

I called for reservations early afternoon January 30 and was asked to "hold please", no problem. I listened to the young hostess speak with guests and then try to answer another ringing line while wondering aloud "what is wrong with the phones?" Sigh... I called back, and after a few busy signals, was able to secure a reservation for 2 at the desired time that night. On arrival we were "greeted" by an older hostess who must have been a schoolmarm in a previous life as she took our name and sternly told us to "stand over there" with a point then proceeded to ignore us for a few minutes. We took that time to look around the place - nice area with a long bar, pizza oven, open kitchen, and LOTS of open tables though there were several people waiting to be sat. After asking our name a third time (the third time with an eye roll - what?) we were shown to a tiny table right up against a family with a squirming, likely exhausted, child - NOPE! Given all the open tables we asked to move and apparently that was the wrong thing to ask as Schoolmarm displayed a few more facial contortions. We compromised on a pub table in the bar area rather than one of the 4 open booths in view. Our server arrived promptly and took our drink orders. He returned with one of the drinks and gave us the specials. Though my companion was considering a steak the special of "sushi grade tuna seared and served rare" almost always sways his mind and that's what he ordered. I had the pork chop with apple sauce, "apple foam", and roasted Brussels sprouts. My drink arrived a few minutes later. While we waited for our food we heard a guy waiting for a table with his family gripe about how he couldn't get served at the bar while they waited for a table. It was busy but there were several open spots at the bar to get a drink while waiting on a table. 'Disappointing' barely begins to describe the food. 'Expensive' also describes the food. While the pork chop was OK it was nothing special and certainly not worthy of the price tag. We both LOVE Brussels sprouts absolutely love them, and they were roasted to crisp but had not been trimmed properly so there were rough stems - disappointing but truly the best part of either of our meals. There was a generous portion which was good as that is mostly what we ate. My mate's "sushi grade tuna seared and served rare" was none of those things. Perhaps the "seared rare" was true a few hours prior but it was served COLD and it was obvious that it had been prepared hours before and left to sit... What a horrible thing to do to a nice piece of fish. He's not big on sending food back so we shared said Brussels sprouts and much of the pork chop. We had to waive down a different server to ask for another drink. We paid and walked out still a little hungry and very disappointed. read more

Outstanding Experience! Management (Mike) is so personable and took time to hang with us each time we have been here to talk food. We also learned about the special cut "outside skirt steak", the type of beef and how it is prepared. What a difference! We make a lot of skirt steak and never heard of this till now. Went here on New Year's eve and the place was BUSY so I'm not sure I can review it fairly. Due to the large crowds, food took very long to come, but the staff were wonderful about it and we didn't really mind because we were in a group and chatting. Had the crispy kale and brussel sprouts, fried calamari, and duck fat fries to start. They were all good, but the calamari was especially well prepared. Light and not too much batter. For mains we had the No Spring Chicken, which was a little bland, the filet, and the rack of lamb. The lamb was cooked well but I thought the batter fried aubergine was a little too oily and heavy. Didn't really work with the dish. Unfortunately the mains came out cold. It's possible they were sitting out before getting to the table, again because of the crowds. For dessert we had the creme brulee, which was very good, the cheesecake (nice, crumbly and light), and the lava cake which was perfectly chocolaty and rich. Would be interested to go back on a day when they're not as busy to properly judge the food. read more

Great atmosphere and that's exactly where they achieved this one star. We moved here from Chicago and we have NEVER paid nearly $35.00 for 2 tiny nuggets of duck breast! I don't mind paying any price for great food with a fair amount of food. To receive 2 tiny nuggets of duck was simply appalling when I know for a fact an entire duck breast will range from $10.00-$15.00! Attempting to have a so called fancy restaurant in a Beach town and rob people of value is also appalling!! Provide great service alongside a fair value and I'll eat at your place weekly. Then to make it worst...I ordered Med Rare duck and ONLY the ends were rare! The rest of the nugget was well done!! ONLY an inexperienced Chef can mess up duck!!
