If you're a fan mocktails or just need a bite while around Ocean Beach, look no further than Ocean Beach Cafe. When I came on a Saturday afternoon, they had a plate of sliced up sourdough baguette and local olive oil for snacking. I really loved the olive oil as it contained a lot of the bright olive notes without much of the bitterness. I've been meaning to try this place especially after Boisson, the nonalcoholic drink shop, closed down. This is the only other place I know of where you can buy nonalcoholic versions of spirits. Furthermore, they have a full menu of mocktails, hemptails, and nonalcoholic beer. They even have kava! I had 2 cocktails and a nonalcoholic beer. The first cocktail had adaptogens in it which made it funky like a slightly citrusy and bitter aftertaste in an otherwise sweet cocktail. Then, I asked them for their recommendations based on my experience with the first one and they recommended the drink that put them on the map - Destroyer of Bad Vibes (Melati classic, The Pathfinder, lemon, lime, and orange bitters). This one was a coffee forward drink with plenty of citrus notes. I felt that the flavors blended together much more nicely so there was no funky aftertaste. I like how I can come here and buy a can of a nonalcoholic beer too to sample instead of gambling on a 6 pack and prices are very reasonable. A very nice spot to stop in for a quick bite to eat or a refreshing mocktail. The drinks and food options were all great, whether it was the breakfast sandwich, hummus or matcha latte. Everyone working the bar and kitchen were super kind and very personable. I really enjoyed my time with them. I'm not sure how to accurately describe this but I'll try; the mocktail options are as if you wanted an alcohol flavored mixed drink at a bar, but without the alcohol, which is totally great. It seems however, there aren't many options for mocktails or mixed drinks that aren't "mocktailed" based if that makes sense? Basically, I didn't see options for mixed drinks that didn't taste like alcohol. I think what I was visualizing was different from what I encountered, but nonetheless a great experience. We travel all over for a good quad skate. One of our favorite places is San Francisco by the beach. We stopped at this cafe to catch a bite before heading out on a long skate. Upon entering, we were greeted by the friendliest dude ever. Definitely seemed to be the guy in charge. We ordered the Epic breakfast sandwich and enjoyed a yummy chai. Love when they aren't too sweet. The place was packed when we arrived but emptied quickly when a large party left. We were able to get a good pic of how the friendly vibe inside matched the friendly people working there. The most interesting thing was their vast supply of all alcohol free bar choices. We noticed on the menu there was an option for the bartenders choice. We will be trying out that option next time. Ocean Beach Cafe is a rare gem that understands two of the most basic human needs: caffeine and bathrooms. The staff is genuinely friendly... not "corporate coffee company " friendly, but "hey we're glad you're here, please hydrate and sit down" friendly. In a city that refuses to provide public restrooms, their radical generosity in letting people use the bathroom (no questions asked) feels revolutionary. Speaking of which, let's talk about that bathroom. Immaculate. Pleasantly scented. Great decor. Free tampons... a win for all menstruating people everywhere. Plus, bigger than a studio apartment in San Francisco. I've seen less square footage listed for $2400/month. There is free wifi and seating both inside and out. The service is excellent and warm, the NA drinks (they have Kava now!) are thoughtful and inclusive and the sandwiches are perfection. It's a great place to grab food and drinks and a true community space. Could not recommend it more highly. read more

Super cute beachy vibe. On a sunny day, the lighting is perfect inside and out. There's a patio with little potted succulents for decor. Inside, there are only a few tables. We got the turkey sandwich which was really good. The bread was super soft and everything in it was made with quality ingredients. The vegan wrap was also tasty with tofu, beets, pickled onions, greens, and avocado. My kids liked the breakfast sandwich. The sandwich and wrap were served with Hawaiian kettle style potato chips. We had just been at the Legion of Honor and didn't want to head back into the city - so Yelped and found this little gem. Cute little neighborhood place, great staff, great food - there was a nice relaxed feeling and you could tell that most of the folks there were regulars. We got a roast beef sandwich - very yummy! This place a must go! Ocean beach cafe is a special little place tucked away on la playa street. Every drink they serve is non alcoholic, even if it says beer or wine. Some of my coworkers don't drink alcohol and we struggled to find a place to go after work. Ocean beach cafe is perfect cause they have drinks for everyone. I got their coconut rum latte and it was very good. The non alcoholic rum tasted the exact same. My coworkers got the needle in the groove and Wilde spritz, they really liked their drinks as well. Food here is also good. Their bread pudding is super good and their sandwiches are solid. The owner is super cool too. He seems really passionate about his business. I got the roasted beef sandwich. The roasted beef is the best part, tender and flavorful meat. However the rest of the sandwich is weird, not in a bad way, just unusual. The bread is very thin. The beef and arugula combo is unusual (and I don't think the flavors go well together. I much prefer the classic roasted beef with just the sauce). It's on the expensive side. Side Chips are fine. The server got our name wrong (it's a common American male name but the server heard something that resembles a racial slur). Anyway. We ordered: 2*Hummus Plate: House-made hummus, avocado, pickled onion, Juanita's tortilla chip's directly from a bag. 2*Vegan Avocado Wrap-Flour tortilla, tofu, avocado, arugula, beets, hummus, pickled onion, cashew sauce, and chips. It wasn't as healthy as I thought. It's probably better for drinks, not an ideal place to eat. There wasn't much cooking to speak of, cooking means to put store bought stuff together. We ordered from the counter, and picked up the food when our name was called, put away the tray after we ate, yet tips asked for 18% minimum. There wasn't much service at all. read more

I live nowhere near Ocean Beach, but sometimes I start long cross-city walks at the western end of Balboa. I happened on this low-key spot on La Playa earlier this year, and I was really struck by how engaged owner Joshua James was in taking my order. The place had a casual beachy vibe that made me think I landed in Malibu waiting for the waves to break. Listen, I'm no surfer, but I can fantasize, can't I? Anyway, I was in the mood for something healthy, so I went for the Vegan Avocado Wrap, which I thought was good, but then I read an Eater SF article about how it was going to be sold and turned into a trendy eatery. OK then, I guess there was no point in Yelping it. Months passed, and I saw today that it still exists. Oh cool, so I thought I'd go for the $16 Vegan Avocado Wrap, and it was actually improved from my first visit. It was still quite huge as the fresh ingredients were encased in a large flour tortilla. The tofu tasted fresher, and the cashew sauce had a nice added tang. This time it came accompanied by some Sun Chips which provided a welcome crunch to my meal. A nice funky outdoor terrace has been set up, and Joshua caught me as I was about to leave to ask me about the food. I let him know it was great, and I was happy to hear he was staying as he continues to host alcohol-free happy hours and coordinate beach clean-up efforts. The neighborhood needs him. Stopped by here after a run/walk on the beach with my partner. Great local spot with just about the best offering/selection of non-alcoholic drinks you could hope to find in the city. They also offer hemptails! (See menu picture) Alas, we were there for the coffee (fantastic) and the breakfast sandwich (unreal). I'll let the photo speak for itself. Great sized bagel, fluffy egg, with just the right amount of arugula and a chefs sauce that pulls everything together. They also have a good selection of hot sauces. I usually go first thing in the morning (although if it were open earlier I would go earlier). Luckily, it's right next to the beach. I order a coffee to go and, depending on the weather, I sit on the sofa or go for a walk along the beach with my coffee in hand. The coffee is very good, and the price is more than reasonable for the quality. The staff is extremely friendly, and the people who frequent the place are very diverse. The decor and the tables and chairs are also very casual. It's usually quite busy in the morning, and there are days when there really isn't enough seating (hopefully they can fix this because there's plenty of space). OB Cafe has such an amazing variety of non-alcoholic drinks, a beachside vibe that this neighborhood was sorely missing until it opened in 2020, and a fantastic menu (the coffee, the sandwiches, the bread pudding - its all delicious). Come and eat here next time you're out at the beach! Love the service as well, and the fact that its owned and operated by one of the OG's of the non-alcoholic movement makes it even cooler - have a Danny Trejo's spirit free margarita and you'll be amazed. Beach cleanups and other events take place here all the time, as well, so OB Cafe has really brought life to our neighborhood! read more

Roast beef sandwich was great. I love the large selection of non-alcoholic beverages.

Finally came around to trying this spot out since the change of ownership, it was converted from the sandwich shop. Heard good things on social media and on here for the most part. Had the roast beef sandwich and turkey sandwich. My first critique would be to better estimate the wait times, we were quoted 15 minutes, it took 30 minutes after we placed our order. The turkey sandwich ate dry and the bread would have benefitted from a little more toast and butter. The roast beef felt like it was missing a proper bite in it, maybe a touch of horseradish or mustard would have helped. The cuts of roast beef were too thick which made each bite a bit too chewy. The bread suffered the same issues as the turkey sandwich. I'm not going to get into the issues I viewed in the preparation process as I don't know what constraints they are operating under. But who microwaves deli meats? Also passing on the credit card interchange fee is okay as long as you provide proper signage and notice, both were lacking. read more

3.5 Stars Took a short lunch break and came over to try out the Ocean Beach Cafe. We love the chill vibe with the sunny waves mural on their interior wall, the surf board decor all over, and we definitely like that they have a parklet outside. This place organizes lots of community events like art classes, surf board swaps, etc. I didn't get any this time, but it looks like they are known for their non-alcoholic beers and drinks. It looks like their menu changes often. We came to try the Huli Huli Chicken Plate, but they ran out of chicken. So on this visit, we tried the pastrami sandwich and a Park Salad (customized as I opted out of a lot of ingredients I don't eat). My Hb is very particular about his pastrami sandwich, so this sandwich was just okay. I had a bite and it's not bad. The salad was good. It's basically greens and small amounts of beets with balsamic vinaigrette as I opted out of quinoa and pumpkin seeds. A very cute and cozy cafe a block away from Ocean Beach! I ordered the breakfast sandwich and King Tide non alcoholic drink and my friend got the matcha oat latte and a pastrami sandwich. Everything was great and they have a huge non alcoholic selection! It worked out perfect since I gave up alcohol for Lent... there was wines, beers, seltzers, and more to choose from. They also have a menu for freshly made mocktails! However, I'd give 10 stars if I could for just the service here... everyone is so friendly. There was even a table that left their purse and the worker went and ran out the cafe to find her.. and he did! There's finally a non-alcoholic cocktail place in SF - and it's great. There's so much new, tasty and unique NA beverages coming up BUT you really need a guided experience to figure out how to make things that really pop and that you will love. That's why I love this place. Josh the owner hosted a superb, full fledged cocktail and NA spirit tasting menu for us at his bar. We walked away with a few bottles for our home bar. My wife and I have been interested in this stuff for years and it's always been difficult to try NA beverages without diving into buying whole bottles. THIS is what the NA movement needs! A real talented mixologist walking us drinkers through the new world of NA spirits through deconstructed cocktails and fully made drinks. I can't speak to the food, and frankly it's not quite a bar or cocktail lounge ambiance - more a beachside cafe with coffee and pastries (BUT apparently there's a classy/cool speakeasy in the works for launch this summer next door). Finally an NA bar in SF! My husband and I did the temperance tasting which was a great way to taste a huge array of NA beverages (ranging from wines to liquors to aperitifs.) The owner Josh also made us a couple of mini cocktails and taught us how to better use an NA spirit we have at home. Josh is super friendly and knowledgeable and made the entire experience fun and engaging. I'd highly recommend this as a casual date activity or things to do with friends. The staff said it was ok for me to hang out with my son while they were cleaning up at closing time. We ordered drinks and a snack. Half an hour later (6:25pm) the manager walked in, aggressively telling us to get out. I told him what the staff told us, and he said they didn't know what they were talking about. I've been to this cafe for a while and have only had good experiences until now. I've bought a fair amount of non-alcoholic beer. I won't be back to support this business after this.
