After dining here 71 times, it is telling how I really feel about Ocean's Diner. One of the BEST consistent customer service that I've ever experienced. It does not matter what time of day or which day I come to dine. The service is impeccable even on Sunday morning rush hour. The owner Rick always greets his customers with a smile. The food is amazing. If you're into waffles or pancakes these guys got it down. The Apple Creme Brûlée Waffles are a MUST. Their egg dishes are spectacular and one of their best is the Morning After (scrambled eggs with chorizo, bacon, sausage and potatoes). My boyfriend LOVES the Sloppy Joe's Omelette (not on the menu) but you can request for it. The muffins are amazing as well as their cakes and pies. I came to Ocean Diner during dinner...and the good thing about this is they currently have a deal where if you check in using Yelp, you get 20% off your entire bill between the hours of 6-9pm. I came here and had a breakfast plate which came with your choice of bread, muffin, or biscuit. The eggs came with Parmesan cheese, mushrooms, parsley, grilled onion, and ground turkey. In addition to that, it came with hash browns (thick slices of potatoes). I enjoyed my meal, but felt the plate was just average. I think the eggs were missing something. Maybe avocado. Or bacon? A local favorite! I go every other week and I'm never disappointed. You may have to wait a bit because the diner is small and it's a popular spot. However, it's worth the wait. Popped here for a late brunch. This place was ideal because I really fancied pancakes and they serve breakfast all day. I ordered "The Morning After" which was an egg, sausage, bacon, potato scramble with avocado. I got a side of biscuit which was warm, crumbly and delicious. We orders a large stack of buttermilk pancakes to share. They were light and fluffy, perfect. Coffee was decent too, plenty of refills and I got one to go. The restaurant is a nice classic diner style, with both bar and table seating. The staff were really friendly. I think our server was new as he forgot a couple of things, but no big deal. It's a few streets up from the beach so it's a nice breezy, laid back atmosphere just without the huge crowd. You'll get the option of a few sides and while all are great, I LOVED the banana muffins. They're homemade, warm, soft and extremely delicious. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. Also tried the biscuits which were huge and buttery if you're into that sort of thing. This review is for the South Bay residents, Angelinos, and all walks of life who have ever found themselves taking Aviation down to PCH and have noticed and wondered about that cozy looking diner on the corner of Ocean that looks like a swell hometown eatery. I am pleased to report that, after finally having the privilege of visiting this beach city eatery, the Ocean Diner in 90254 is terrific. The service is first rate, with each member of the staff greeting me with welcoming enthusiasm. The decor and atmosphere is reminiscent of the big band and warn torn era of the 1940s, which I found as a respectful gesture toward history and a refreshing step away from the technologically driven state of the 21st century. The menu has a lot of impressive looking options, and I decided to order the Churro Waffle. I tempered my expectations, as I have been to many a pancake house that does fancy style waffles which end up being too sweet or a bad idea that just should not have come to fruition. I am thrilled to write that this Churro Waffle was the most delicious waffle that I have ever had in 26 years of life. Everything about it worked. The ratio of sugar to fruit, and the flavor of the waffle itself were outstanding. I got here at about a quarter to 8 on Sunday, and by 830 there was not a seat left at this hustling and bustling establishment. The owner was kind enough to drop by to check on me and my granddad while making his rounds, and if he is reading his review then I would like to say (from a lifelong resident of the South Bay) that I hope and believe this restaurant will continue to flourish for generations to come. I've started to come here every weekend now for the past few months. The service is unmatched. EVERY single employee is friendly and greets you. Jaime and Jaime Jr. aka Jimmy, are seriously two of the hardest working, sweetest individuals you will encounter. Feeling right at home with a delicious 'homemade' meal is what Ocean Diner delivers. I have even come here alone and brought my laptop to work from here while enjoying my breakfast. Recently this month I have gone gluten free and dairy free and can still comfortably eat here - their gluten free muffins are so good I get an extra one for the next day! Let's get this out there: The diner is on a street named Ocean and not on the Ocean. Cool, I feel better. We started out with the Gluten Free Cranberry Muffins. They were so good: Light, fluffy, and tasty. I couldn't even tell they were gluten free. Note, the gluten free muffins are nowhere on the menu. The Yelp Community put me onto them. Good looking out! I ordered the French Toast. It's definitely priced well and it's your typical French Toast. No bells, no whistles, just French Toast. I liked it. She ordered the huevos rancheros and said they were good. She was definitely satisfied with her dish. Now, here is where Ocean Diner stood out: Service. Our server was so attentive and polite. This guy kept checking on us and saying "thank you." He definitely wanted a happy and taken care of table. We acknowledge you, sir. Good looking out. My biggest complaint about this joint is the depth of menu, and that's not even something to complain about....but is a great way to force return business. I ordered the banana butter pecan waffle and enjoyed the sticky sweetness of the caramel syrup, crunch of the pecans and sweet whipped cream over the crispy waffle. The butterscotch chips added that something extra. I would ask them to go heavier on the caramel sauce if I ordered it again. My wife ordered "the morning after" which was packed with chorizo, bacon and eggs, and mixed up with cheese and potatoes. The size of the potatoes was the only negative. My bud has yet to steer me wrong and picked a great lil spot. It is a bit of a throwback to yesteryear. A few of my coworkers love going to this place so I decided I need to check it out. I ordered the breakfast sandwich with bacon which came with home fries and a muffin. The breakfast sandwich was ok. It reminded me of an egg mcmuffin at McDonalds except with a fried egg. The bacon was flavorful and not too fatty or oily. The home fries could've been better though. Many of the slices were too big and lacked flavor. I was also expecting them to be slightly crispier. As for my muffin, I think they must've forgotten about it since our table was pretty packed. That said their Java Man coffee is pretty good. I liked how often they came back to check if you needed a refill (which is almost always a yes in the morning). Overall nothing special to me. I was so looking forward to a great breakfast since I used to come here often back when I lived in Redondo Beach and just recently moved back to the area. To start off, ordered coffee. One coffee came for my friend. My coffee I had to wait. Wait. Ask for my coffee. Wait. Wait! Finally comes. And I notice the rim of the coffee cup was chipped all the way around. Why wouldn't they trash this unsanitary cup. So I ask for another cup. Again wait. Wait. No coffee. No explanation. Ask for my coffee. Apparently they ran out of clean coffee cups. So I wait. Wait. Now I ask for coffee in a to go cup. 10 minutes later I finally get coffee in a to go cup. Really? I went with a simple 2 eggs over medium, home fries, extra crispy bacon and biscuit. My friend went with the huevos rancheros. The home fries were burnt. The biscuits didn't resemble a biscuit. It looked like flat brick of bread. Disappointingly dry and not even a biscuit. I didn't eat the home fries. Took one bite of the dry 'biscuit'. Our server never came once to see if we needed coffee or asked if we were satisfied with our meal. My friend liked his huevos rancheros at least. My experience and meal was a major disappointment. When we asked for the check and for more coffee, I told our server how disappointed I was with the burnt home fries and 'biscuit.' He did offer me the muffin for the day which was a corn bread muffin. That didn't appeal to me. So he offered me fresh fruit. Which was good. Overall experience and service sadly a one star. Plus a star for offering me fresh fruit in compensation for the burnt home fries and the lousy biscuits. Not sure if I'll come back. Most likely not. read more

Hermosa Beach food is fantastic! Ocean diner does not strike you as the finest dining location when you drive past it, but once inside you realize why so many people enjoy it! All staff were friendly and courteous, they topped up my coffee and ensured we were taken care of. I would recommend any of the pancakes or French toast dishes at this restaurant. I had Suzys crunchy french toast and my fiance had the blueberry pancakes. Both were cooked perfectly, not dry or too "doughy". The crunchy french toast gets the crunch from granola that is sprinkled on top of the French toast, along with sliced bananas. The blueberry pancakes were loaded with blueberries and a very good portion size. We dined on a Sunday morning and it was busy but we waited only 10 minutes to get a table. Years ago I was pregnant and craving Ocean Diner. I ordered up some food and raced over to pick it up on my half hour lunch break, only to realize that my husband had not replaced my debit card in my wallet the night before. I was huge, and very sad, and it must have shown on my hungry pregnant face, because the server told me to take the food and come back in to pay later. Of course, I cried with gratitude and hormones all the while eating my scramble. For $10.25 I thought it'd be a little more filling. Bacon was good. But when is bacon not? They had a good kids menu and offered him an "app"' of fruit loops and a twizzler, and crayons which was nice. Food didn't take that long to come out but my wife's order fell very short. She ordered the, "Mama's home!" Very disappointed. Wasn't breaded and the gravy was cold. Eggs were cooked well though. Overall, not too psyched on this place and prolly won't return for awhile.
