I've been here a few times and I felt that it's time for a review (and a good one). I am a sucker for pancakes, so I am not sure if my review is entirely objective. Ocean Diner is definitely a local's favorite. Weekend or weekday, this place always has customers. This is a good sign. Most recently, I tried their 2 x 2 x 3 brunch special. It came with 2 buttermilk pancakes, 3 sausages, and 2 eggs. I also tried their boysenberry muffin and a cup of decaf. The buttermilk pancakes were very good, and probably one of the best I've had in the South Bay. Fluffy, buttery, and with slightly crispy edges can best describe the cakes. I added some of their warm maple syrup and I enjoyed every crumb of those pancakes. I highly recommend the pancakes. The sausages were decent and the 2 eggs were cooked properly to my over-medium order. All in all, solid brunch dish. The boysenberry muffin was very good. Not too sweet and plenty of berry morsels in every bite. I was surprised that I finished the entire muffin given I also had two buttermilk pancakes. Well, it's that good. The decaf coffee was pretty good, but it's hard for me to benchmark because I am not an avid coffee drinker. I would say it tasted fresh. Service was prompt and friendly. The parking situation can be tough, but you can park right in front off of Aviation or there's some parking in the rear of the restaurant. Perhaps it's because it's been over a year since eating here. Perhaps because it was the perfect weather to sit and dine outside. Perhaps because we lucked put coming late in the afternoon to beat the crowd with no wait and ample parking available. Or perhaps it's just because they are just that good -- because the food tasted heavenly! What a delightful reunion with my all-time favorite local diner. Not to mention how wonderful it was to see Jaime and the rest of the team there. The customer service is always a highlight. The strawberry cheesecake waffle was to die for with the perfect blend of strawberries, cream cheese filling, and graham cracker crumbles. The healthy pasta scramble tasted just as I remembered and exactly what I wanted, topped off with the perfect pineapple muffins. The kids love (and I mean Love!) the edible fruit loop bracelet kit. This diner is very retro and is a bustling spot to be for breakfast! They have a really homey feeling but I didn't think of anything being extra special about the food. The other yelpers hyped up the muffins so I purposely ordered a dish that came with muffins and idk if I'm the biggest fan! The banana muffins were definitely good but kinda dry and didn't seem extra special to me. I think next time I'll have to try to coffee cake instead! The iron man omlette was good and had a huge portion of veggies and potatoes--great for two people to split! The parking situation is very stressful as there is a tiny lot with like 8 spots but there is also street parking! They also have milkshakes that are pretty solid! Ocean Diner is one of those underrated brunch places that I think anyone should try when they're in the area! 1) Lulu's skillet: sauce, ham or bacon with home-fried potatoes topped with tomatoes, mushrooms, green onions, melted jack cheese with any 2 eggs. I ordered them over easy and it's sooo delicious! Great for sharing! (5/5) 2) Suzy's Crunchy French Toast: If you love French toast, then you gotta try this one. The French toast is rolled in granola, cinnamon so you get that extra delicious flavor along with whipped cream, bananas and extra granola. My buddy and I came here on Saturday around 10:30am well knowing that the wait could be insane. As luck would have it, we got there just before the next rush. We were seated and sipping coffee within a manner of minutes. Upon our arrival we were greeted with friendly staff and what can be described as a family feel environment. Our waiter was friendly and joyful, and really made our dining experience that much better. Both my friend and I got the basic 2 eggs, 2 sausages, and 2 pancakes. Even though basic and simple, the food was delicious. Nice fluffy pancakes were just what we needed for some carb loading. Ha Parking could be tricky I'm guessing. We got lucky and grabbed one of the few spots behind the restaurant. Street parking looked a bit tighter. But walking a few blocks would be well worth it to dine here. Came to this place after a great beach workout. Not a lot of parking as in with any beach establishments but we lucked out on the corner. We were there before 10am and still had to wait. We had the tuna melt with bacon and eggs and sausage. The tuna melt was off the hook. Not really a tuna melt fan but my bf got it and so I had to taste it (for review purposes) and it was really amazing. The parmesan bread and the addition of bacon really made it spectacular. Their biscuits are huge. We actually were able to cut it in half to share. Really good not dry and with the gravy on the side it was even better. Service was decent...had to track them down for extra coffee but the food makes up for it. It came out really fast and was good. Not a place I would come to with a big party. I've driven by this place a couple times and decided to try it. I ordered the Strawberry Cheesecake Waffle breakfast. It comes with egg, your choice of meat, and of course the waffle. Eggs were simple, as well as the sausage. The waffle was AMAZING! It has the most perfect taste. The service was okay, they are very rushed and try to get you out of the way, but it's understandable they get busy. The decoration was very cute. I loved the old diner look. Definitely get the mac and cheese grilled cheese. It definitely surpassed my expectations - it has an awesome garlic flavor and the mac and cheese itself has a pretty complex cheesy flavor. The sides are also the stars of the show here. The home fries are nice, crispy, and salty, while the biscuits are surprisingly fluffy but still buttery and addicting. The morning after special is pretty meaty and a bit on the heavier side, but pretty flavorful. The country skillet is decent, but nothing special - but I don't think it travelled well being ordered takeout. The french toast is nothing to write home about, but will hit the spot if you're in the mood for it. Overall, it's decent food for decent prices. Can't complain too much about that! read more

Great price for delicious food. Portions are a good amount and great flavor. On the skillet ask for the spicy salsa on the side. Salsa is not spicy but great flavor to add with your meal. Huevos Rancheros we're delicious. The green salsa on it was not Hot (spicy) but complimented the dish. The butter packet was smooth. Not like other places where it's hard to use. My coffee cup was never left empty. The orange juice was freshly squeezed. We will be coming back to try other dishes. read more

The banana muffins were also very tasty and I enjoyed that they were bite size so it was not overly filling. I had the breakfast and it was cooked to perfection and very good. All the plates that came out looked delicious. My only complaint is there are seven parking spaces behind the restaurant in a few street parking spaces. If You drive by and see a spot, definitely stop and give them a try. Place has a fun 1940's theme, with old newspaper articles and movie posters durning the walls. My guess this a family operated place as it had that feeling. It is a popular place as we did have to wait to get a seat. Not to long, there was plenty of staff to get you in and out. Food was delicious and service was excellent. I decided on the Lulu's skillet which consisted of sausage, home fries, green peppers, onions, tomatoes and topped with eggs. I chose turkey sausage. Everything also comes with biscuits. The serving was plentiful! I was pleasantly surprised at how much food you got! Everything tasted fresh and was seasoned well. I prefer my home fries crispy but the potatoes were still cook well. The biscuits we're humongous. It was difficult to eat them by hand because they were so flaky that they crumbled.
