I'm not sure why this place has so many poor reviews because it is one of my go to restaurants at the source. My favorite item is the mixed sashimi bowl. The vegetables are always so crisp and it comes with a great amount of fish. It also comes with a side of rice and miso soup. I have tried other dishes from this place and they have always been yummy. However, if I am going to recommend anything, it's the mixed sashimi bowl!
After browsing some shops at the Source, I ate at Ocean Snack with a friend. It's located on the upper level of the food courts near the area with all the mini claw machines. I liked my experience here, so I was taken aback by many of the negative reviews... but to each their own! FOOD: I only got one item-- Squid Cold Noodles (4.5/5). The portion was HUGE, so you can definitely share or bring home leftovers. The red color of the ice was a little off-putting, but the dish was super refreshing and won't leave you feeling heavy. It came with a generous helping of squid that wasn't rubbery and was also topped with cucumbers and sesame seeds. The noodles had a nice bouncy texture. This dish would probably be even tastier if I were eating it on a hot summer day. Be cautious when ordering a lot of food because it seems like other items are also quite generous in size. SERVICE: You order your food using a self-service kiosk at the front of the establishment. You'll probably only interact with staff when your food is ready. When you're done with your food, there's a little stand where you can place your dirty tray and dishes. An undemanding introvert's dream! TLDR// Unassuming place with solid food. (I can only speak for one item on the menu though.) Would revisit if I'm in the area.

Crispy exterior but tender inside, 4/5 stars. I'd request no sugar for seasoning next time, as I do for Korean corn dogs. Obviously, I'd return for the tornado fries!
They have a self serve kiosks for dining in. We ordered the bulgogi Plate with k-popcorn chicken (sauce came on the side), and the meal came with a miso soup as well. The bulgogi plate has a generous portion of meat and rice. It's served on a hot plate and there's just something appealing with anything on a hot plate! The plate also came with some onions and broccoli as well. The miso soup was standard. And the popcorn chicken came with some fried rice cakes and we dipped in the sauce that it came with. The prices of the food were a bit steep here. Especially for the popcorn chicken and rice cakes. The chicken was crispy but the portion was a bit small, and the taste was okay. I think I'd skip the popcorn chicken next time and try something else on the menu. The only interaction I had with an actual person was just during the food pick up, and that was it. So service was definitely done mostly on the kiosk. It's a food court, so you'd also have to clean up your own tray afterward. Make sure to bring water or you'd have to buy water/ beverage somewhere on the food court. The good thing is that there are a lot of options to choose from the food court.

The workers were fine, there isn't anything wrong on their part. The army soup, however, is not worth it. It's 18 dollars, but it doesn't have anything to make it worth 18 dollars. The soup was good for it's spice, but you'll only find vegetables, melted cheese, and bits of sausages. These are cheap ingredients you can buy at the grocery store, and cook yourself. I haven't tried other items here, but I'll have to say my experience this time was regretful.

I got the corn tea, which I had never heard of before. It is literally flavored like corn (duh) and was quite good. If you've never had it before, I'd recommend giving it a try if you enjoy corn. The restaurant service was mainly fast (there was one person in my group whose food took abnormally long but it was because they were making her potato tornado fresh). They will give you a pager that lights up when your food is ready. Since this is in a food court, there were plenty of places to sit inside.
Tried Ocean Snack at The Source OC and overall, it was an okay experience. We got the eel hot plate, which was actually really good. Flavorful, nicely cooked, and came with a side of miso soup which was a nice touch. We also tried the rice cake & sausage stick, and this one was just okay. The flavor was fine, but it wasn't hot. More warm than anything. Not sure if it sat out or if the chili sauce cooled it down, but it definitely would've been better fresh and hot. Overall, some hits and some misses. I'd come back for the eel, but probably skip the skewers next time. read more

We were was so excited to see fried potato tornado on a stick. We ordered for pick-up and it took awhile to be prepared. Hubby felt the potato was okay, it lacked flavor and wasn't as crispy as he had hoped it to be. read more

It was my first time here yesterday. I tried the beef tofu soup. It comes with a package of seaweed and a container of rice. The soup was very watery. My friend tried the eel rice bowl. It taste like sushi in a plate lol. They don't offer free water. It cost 1.63 to buy a bottle of water. read more

Got the rice cake with sausage for $5.99. Kind of pricey for a skewer but it was worth a try. It tasted more sweet than spicy. The rice cake was fried but still chewy. Service was good and fast. The lady have us napkins and extra paper plates to hold our skewers. read more

I've gotten bit by an eel!!! A grilled Japanese eel called Unagi!!! And Ocean Snack's version is so good!!! I remember watching how an eel is prepared on some television program, with the grill and the sauce brushed over the eel as it is being grilled to a delightful shade placed on rice. Ocean Snack did not miss any steps. The side dishes tasted authentic. Their service is friendly and how nice that it is part of a varied selection at this food court. The eel was tasty and I felt like I was eating in Japan!!! Definitely going back!!! read more
My mom ordered the number 23 (beef and veggie japchae). She saw the menu photo and thought there was going to be a lot of meat. Once she got her order she realized the meat was only on top. It comes with rice, miso soup, and was on a hot skillet plate. The portion of japchae was ok, there was a few broccoli pieces and flavor was sweet and savory. Since we ordered our meals on the other side of the food court, she brought hers over to our side. After eating I had to walk the tray over since it didn't fit in the section's tray rack. The place looks nice, lots of snacks and also offers sushi, it's a bit pricey though. read more
Huge menu with lots of variety! Good for when you can't decide what to eat! I tried the spicy cold noodles with pollack roe, the tuna poke bowl and the japchae! We also ordered the rice cakes on the side! Everything was good and came in large portions! I really liked the cold noodles, which were spicy but very flavorful and refreshing! The food was alright. It tasted like instant packaging stuff. I've had more authentic Korean dishes in Buena Park. We had an emergency and had to leave. We went to ask for a to-go box and they charged 50 cents. I have never been to any food restaurant or fast food chain where they charge for to-go boxes. That's ridiculous. The food was so weird I feel like it was a Caucasian rendition of Korean food??? I got the beef japchae dish and the tteokbokki on a skewer. The japchae was so flavorless, only the meat had some flavor. It also didn't taste much like Korean seasoning, maybe because I couldn't taste the seasoning. It also made everything very dry and not pleasant. The tteokbokki was too chewy and it literally tasted like ketchup. There wasn't the usual red chili gochujang taste at all. I was very disappointed because I wanted to eat good food at the source. read more

Tried the potato tornado stick! Super good! Has sugar in it and is fried to perfection. My kids loved it. Fun to eat! We also had the rice cake and hot dog skewer, I didn't like it. The sauce was not good I don't recommend it. Didn't try the other things. This location is on the third level food court, and I swear there is no aC and it's so hot and compacted in there. So probably go in the winter when it's not so gross. read more
Staff wasn't the most friendly here. They've got a lot of different foods to try, so we got the tornado fries. I wasn't a huge fan of fan because of the sugar they put on it and I felt that the potatoes weren't cooked all the way through, they were still hard. read more

Self-service and greatttt value. So much meat for a 14 dollar bowl of noodles. The udon was chewy in a good way. I recommend you give this a go when indecisively strolling through the food court. read more
the 해물냉면 (seafood cold noodles) was sooo yummy, the sea squirt was decently fresh, id get their other seafood dishes here too! love that they put a generous amt of noodles and veggies, v fresh udon is good too and price overall is good! the ahjummas r nice, no water so u have to buy drinks, located in the food court on 3rd floor! read more

I'm surprised that this place doesn't have a high rating! I've only tried their squid and sea squirt cold noodles and it's so good that I've come back several times whenever I crave it. It's different from any cold noodle dish I've had before because of the sea squirt and squid. Refreshing on a hot day with a slightly spicy cold broth and a generous amount of sea squirt and squid... I highly recommend! I usually order an extra side of cold noodle and it's enough to share with two people. This is one of my fave restaurants to come to whenever I visit The Source. Give it a try! read more

Ordered the salmon poke rose ramyun kimchi fried rice and the beef and veggie japchae... which was very sweet slathered in teriyaki sauce and not like traditional japchae at all... missing fast sesame flavor they usually have If you're looking for traditional japchae do not get it from here. I'm so disappointed with Ocean Snack. I used to love their udon noodles when they served it in black bowls. Now the portion is smaller and the udon tastes exactly like instant noodles that I could buy in the grocery store. Even frozen grocery noodles tasted better than this. The California roll was ok tasting but it was advertised to have cucumbers in it and this one had no cucumbers. I'm throughly disappointed and I don't think I'll return unless things change. Service was not much either. read more

Be careful when you place an order because the portion is a lot. A regular sashimi cold noodle can feed 2 hungry people. The seafood was fresh. The cold noodle was really good and also spicy. It's self service inside the Korean mall. read more

Our first time to order from Ocean Snack and will definitely go back! It's located in the food court of The Source-Buena Park. We got the Baked Salmon roll, it was delicious! Salmon was fresh, not too much rice, just the way we prefer our roll. Highly recommend! Side note: I think this is under new management. Try it! You won't get disappointed. read more
