Also ordered the crab dip and bowl of clam chowder. The most delicious thing, surprisingly, was the homemade chips that come with the burger. Great crunch and tasty seasoning. The crab artichoke dip was pretty good but a little bland. Cons: prices are $$. Also the mother day brunch at $189/pp is overpriced. Even if they give you a lavender rose at the end. read more

This place is worth every penny on a good clear day where you get to see the glorious sunset on the sea. We were there with family for the first time, and had a few snacks and drinks and enjoyed the sunset along with the bagpipe. I had heard about this place from friends and it did not disappoint. Sitting outside in the sun and having some fresh guacamole and chips along with some wine, and beer is the stuff good evenings are made of. We had a relaxing time there and would love to go back to enjoy ourselves and take the guests who visit us for the experience. The ritz has valet parking for $30 but there is a public lot a little bit of a walk. We did the valet parking but if it is not too cold I would even suggest parking in the public parking. read more

Wonderful lunch here! The view is amazing, our server David was so attentive and made great recommendations, and the food and drinks were great. I came here for drinks only with my fiance so I can't really speak for the food. It's the Ritz Carlton in freakin' HMB so we came with the expectation that it's going to be expensive. The little public parking lot was full so we had to pay to use the valet. Got a few cocktails which were delicious but pricey. The view can't be beat though! There's a section of chairs that are reserved for hotel guests but it didn't seem like there was anyone checking. So grab a seat by the fire pit (because it's Northern California and it's always chilly by the water), sip your fancy drinks, enjoy life and try to forget about how much you're paying for the experience! read more

I am only giving this place a three because of the staff. If it weren't for them, it would likely be a two. First let me say I LOVE Half Moon Bay. And I usually love the Ritz. The Ocean Terrace is such a great spot to go for some cocktails. Super amazing views of the ocean and cliffs, and a small section of the golf course. It's actually a view of the last whole, which is cool because you get to see games close. Love that. There's also beautiful fire pits and big Adirondack chairs to hang out in. Great vibes overall. The menu is completely underwhelming. The selection isn't great, and the food itself is mediocre, at best. Which, for being on the coast, is disappointing. The cocktails were good though! What makes up for the food situation is the staff. If you want to go to just hang out and have a drink, I would say DO IT. The staff is super attentive, super friendly, and they actually pay attention to you. Water is brought to you or refilled before you ask. If they see a drink getting low, they address it. I was even getting sunburnt and they offered me sunscreen. Good service is everything. Big shout out to Trevor and Meghan who dealt with our rowdy group after the Netflix meeting. You were amazing. This is my favorite place for mac and cheese. This place is also a really good hotel. It's right next to the golf course, the ocean and the pool. On Christmas Eve Santa makes an appearance! When you're dining either formally or casually at a Ritz Carlton one expects a price premium and one expects that the food will be a cut above ordinary. Well we would have certainly settled for ordinary since both lobster rolls were literally the worst we ever had. Maybe it was an off day (it was a sunny weekend and they were a bit busy) however the roll itself tasted stale, the side potato chips were definitely stale and the amount of lobster was ridiculously small. We ate here as a party of nine a few weekends ago. When we arrived, the hostess warned one of our party who had a camera that it's their policy not to allow photos to be taken of their guests. This seemed a bit unnecessary and unfriendly. The hostess's general attitude toward us was somewhat condescending. She was kind at brief points, like bringing us a couple blankets to keep warm, but mostly seemed frustrated with us and with others at the restaurant. We stayed there for 1.5-2 hours and ordered a fair amount of food (a few sandwiches, a few orders of sliders, and a couple other things) and drinks (a bottle of wine, a bucket of beer). The food was fairly tasty, and the wine was good. The waitress was very friendly with us the whole time and attentive though she had a fair number of tables to cover. Toward the end of the meal though, the hostess came by and told us she hoped we enjoyed our meal because there were lots of people waiting, and not everyone would be able to eat before they closed. We saw maybe 3-4 people waiting at the end and didn't see many others come by looking for a table. At no point were we given a polite hint that we might be overstaying our welcome, and as I mentioned we were ordering a decent amount of food and drink. So for the hostess to make this remark -- couched thinly as a warm "hope you enjoyed your meal" but clearly intended as a "you guys stayed too long" criticism was just plain rude. I believe she thought we wouldn't even notice what she was actually saying. I also heard another table having a negative interaction with the hostess, so it wasn't just us. In summary: The food was alright; the server was nice; the hostess was very rude. I would not come back here, let alone bring anyone else here. read more

This location couldn't be better. Comfy Adirondack chairs line fire pits, cliffside views, and manicured lawns as you gaze over the 18th green and out to the crashing waves of the pacific. You couldn't ask for a more dramatic or picturesque view. Service is superb, as is the case with everywhere at the Ritz Carlton. The waitstaff is friendly, courteous, and prompt with their assistance. The specialty drinks are awesome, and the limited taco-themed menu at the terrace is great. I'm not a huge Mexican-food fan (I know, what am I doing in CA?!) but I enjoyed their fresh seafood and crab/corn chowder. The desserts also can't be beat! The Ritz Carlton at Half Moon Bay is very nice and the Ocean Terrace restaurant has a super nice view! Unfortunately, that's about the only upside to this restaurant. We came here for lunch and expected the food to be a lot better for the high prices, but I guess you are really paying for the view here. It was a cold day when we came, but they offered us blankets which was nice. I got a hot toddy to warm myself up and it was not bad. For food, we decided to share a goat cheese and artichoke dip and the BBQ short rib sliders. The artichoke dip didn't come out very hot and is different than most at other restaurants, it was very very chunky. There was a layer of cheese on top, but other than that it felt almost like eating chunks of artichoke. The BBQ short rib sliders were VERY VERY salty...I'm not even kidding, my friends and family make fun of me for how much I like salty food, and even I thought it was way too salty to the point where it was inedible. I think they must've had an accident with the salt, because I can't imagine them serving that dish and people being able to eat it. I couldn't take more than one bite, and thankfully the server let us switch it with another dish. We got the dungeness crab and sweetwater prawn panini and it was much better, although I still wouldn't categorize it as good. After lunch, we took a walk along the ocean which was very nice. I probably wouldn't recommend coming here unless you don't mind paying an arm and a leg for mediocre food, but if you really want to, I would say get a few (overpriced) drinks and sit by the bonfire to enjoy the view. read more

Great spot for drinks and small bites! A little pricey but that's to be expected from a Ritz-Carlton. The view itself if worth the higher prices though. My husband and I came on a Friday evening around 5pm and it wasn't too busy. Service was great, drinks are stiff and the food is delicious (we had the ceviche, guacamole and vanilla bread pudding). We were in Halfmoon Bay & after living in the Bay Area for 7 years the sun was out & it was 76 degrees there. This has never happened I've always seen the beach town dark & gloomy. The views sitting outside were so beautiful & tranquil. We ordered the crab & asparagus appetizer w/ a couple drinks & for our meal I got the burrata salad & my husband got the burger. The food was pretty good. I recommend the burrata salad it had a perfect mix of sweet & savory. I would definitely go back for the salad. The appetizer had a unique flavor it wasn't that great, I would say it's more of an acquired taste. The burger was tasty & I liked how it wasn't thick you could actually bite into it! The venue is really clean & it's just really nice sitting out there & taking in the beauty of the golf course & beach. The hummus was gritty and was suppose to come with crispy vegetables and pita - pita was great, but the veggies consisted of a few cherry tomato halves, some sliced cucumber and red onion - not what I thought would be used for dipping. The Ahi Poke was fairly bland and the lobster roll was ok but served on a slightly stale roll. Definitely not worth the $150, which did include 2 light pours of Pinot Noir. read more

My husband and I both ordered $30+ plates of eggs and then waited for 40 minutes. We looked around and all six tables in our section had not received their food in that time either. Our server came by and said apologized saying that since it was now the lunch menu all the orders had been transferred to the kitchen on the 3rd floor. We asked how much longer and he didn't know. Another 15 minutes passed and no managers had come by to acknowledge the situation. We finally ended up following other tables next to us and packed up and left. I told the managers on the way out that they didn't even seem to notice that an entire section of people hadn't received breakfast in over an hour. They looked confused and apologized while we walked out. Would expect more from a 5 star hotel. read more

We had heard the the view from the Ocean Terrace at the Ritz was spectacular and we were not disappoint. It was a cool Feb day and we sat indoors next to the window watching the surf. The view was soothing. We ordered Beer which was nice and chilled and a citrus Chicken sandwich and a Bolognese pasta. Pasta was aldente and flavorful. The chicken in the sandwich was overcooked and dry. The bread was sooo dry. Service was good, our server was attentive without distracting from the meal and view. Definitely not worth it. This bar and grill spot is located right outside on the hotel patio with views of the ocean. I came with a group here for lunch on a Friday. Despite the overcast, it was warm out. Sitting by the grill is probably not the best choice. When the wind started picking up, the smoke from the grill was blowing right at our table. We had for starters the following: CHICKPEA HUMMUS, DUNGENESS CRAB AND SPINACH DIP, and CHEESE BOARD. The dip was my favorite. I love both dungeness crab and spinach. The toasted pita chips for the hummus also went really well with the dip. The waiter brought more after we ran out of things to dip with. I had as my main meal the LOBSTER TAILS. It came with a side of potato salad in a mustard seed dressing. While the lobster meat was tender and juicy, it didn't look that appetizing with its burnt tail fin and swimmerets (I had to look up lobster anatomy to find out what these parts are called) which is an unfortunate side effect of grilling. read more

Honestly I would leave a negative star if they had it on yelp. The service at this hotel is absolutely terrible and complete monkeys. I came here to celebrate a special occasion and it ended up being a terrible evening due to the service. They ended up forgetting about my reservation and even admitted that they forgot. Honestly I received better service at a best western motel. You would think the service and customer service would be top notch here but it's terrible. I explained my evening to the general manager and they had nothing to say nor apologize. Warning... This place is a complete tourist trap! The GM of this hotel should be fired.
