This place has delicious food, Pan Roast Combo is the best in my opinion. Is my favorite place to go every time I visit the TSR.

I came across this place browsing for cajun places to eat. I have eaten the famous Oyster Bar at Palace Station in Vegas. To my surprise, Ocean Trail is actually comparable. Both times we came our tummies left happy. Can only eat at the bar if you are 21 and over. We've had the panroast, clam chowder, oysters, seafood corn chowder. Clam chowder- this was decent.. but I honestly think most clam chowders taste the same Oysters- Being a California native I felt this could be fresher but with no bodies of water around Arizona .. this is probably as good as it gets. The oyster meat was HUGE, big plus. Seafood corn chowder- I would opt for this over the clam chowder, creamy yet every bite was filled with seafood. Perfectly seasoned ! Panroast- I saved the best for last! This was AMAZING. Perfect taste for those who like tomato based dishes. I got mine with crawfish and my boyfriend got his with crab. Both were good, the crawfish was lighter and crab was denser. The second time we came we got the combination which I liked a lot better. This is a MUST TRY! First off, the ambience is the casino. Not good. I knew it was in the casino, but I didn't realize until I saw it that it's practically on the floor with the noisy slots and smokers. They really should put up some sort of glass partition and circulate fresher air for the patrons. As it stands, loud, drunk, smoking people in the casino can walk right by your table (within inches) and not be in the restaurant. Cigarette smoke is not helpful when trying to enjoy a meal. I have to deduct a star for this. The buffet is isolated from the casino, they should do something for this spot too. It's really unfortunate. The service was friendly and helpful. A bit inattentive, perhaps, but they were always moving. Very busy. So it wasn't neglect. Now for the food. We started with the corn seafood chowder. They warn you that it has a variety of seafood in it (squid, octopus, etc). Not just clams or shrimps. But don't let that bother you. No one flavor stands out, and the seafood is chopped up small enough that you aren't going to get a mouthful of any one thing. It was really quite tasty, though perhaps just a bit salty. Then came the shrimp boil. Basically shrimp boiled in a spicy sauce/broth. It also was pretty good. I don't know that I would rave about it as other reviewers have, but I had no problem with it either. Lastly, the seafood creole. I got it with the dirty rice. The dirty rice is very good, but the amount was pretty small for the dish. I would have doubled it if I were the chef. The seafood dish itself was actually very similar to the shrimp boil, except there was other stuff besides just shrimp. It also had scallops, clams, and some other things I wasn't sure about. It was very good, but didn't really distinguish itself from the shrimp boil much. The sauce was a bit thicker, but in terms of flavor very similar. All in all a pretty good meal. I think I like Pappadeaux's better, but still pretty good. I'd give them four stars if it wasn't for the noise and smoke. One nice feature was specifying your spice level on a 1-10 scale. I liked that. Another thing to be aware of is this place ain't cheap. read more

This small am restaurant is a hidden gem in this resort. The oysters were wonderful from British Columbia and the gumbo is made to order right in front of you at the bar. Out of this world! I ordered the caesar salad and clam chowder combo for lunch. The salad was good and the clam chowder was very thick. The chowder wss served with oyster crackers already sprinkled on top and my first bite was just a bit salty so i mixed in the crackers. The chowder was not very hot in temperature but I ate most of it. My husband ordered the Etouffee with dirty rice and it was good. There were small bits of seafood which was not bad. Most of the meal was made at the bar. The Etouffee was very hot in temperature when first served which was really nice. I think it was made at the bar. The best part of the meal was the bread which was served warm with butter. The service was fine. The restaurant consisted of four tables and a bar off the side of the casino floor. I think my expectations were higher because of the yelp rating. This restaurant was not bad but it was not great either. read more

What I really want to do with this review is give my fellow Yelpers a huge shout-out for bringing this place to my attention. Gracias, Merci, Grazie, Arigato and Thank you! I would never know this place existed otherwise. So first of all, two things: 1) no reservations; you're gonna stand in line like in a Vegas buffet line. This is not too bad and so worth the wait. Go get your drink at the bar and head to the line to wait; and 2) bring your tissues because if you are brave, and we are, you'll get whatever you order as hot as you can stand it. The tissues are for wiping sweat and your runny nose. Combine this with the chef's hot sauce speciality that comes out first. Oh c'mon don't be chicken: TRY IT. May I recommend the gumbo whatever you want, but mix it up some. Look, this is not the place to linger, it's for smaller parties, four is a lot, and there are people in line, folks, in high heels. Not saying rush yourself, but enjoy the food, some small talk with your neighbors (the seating is close and intimate,) and move along. Time to gamble, or not. The food quality and flavor is a 5, but the service is a 2-3. This is billed as a cajun seafood restaurant within Talking Stick Casino. It's really just a tiny little corner of the casino with a bar arrangement and about half a dozen tables around it. It is really tiny. So during meal times it takes forever just to get seated, and the services is pretty slow even after that. On the other hand, the food quality is simply fantastic. The crab/shrimp cocktails are big and the quality of the product is great. All of the dinner dishes are generously-sized and very good. You simply won't leave here hungry, or disappointed in the flavors. For those who don't like "cajun" style foods, there are plenty of seafood items that are plain and simple. The crab cocktail, for example, is served with a tasty but mild creamy remoulade. There are a number of other non-spicy options available. read more

This was our 2nd time. We stayed here a month ago and, when it was time to come back for a Dr appt it was a no-brained. Ocean Trail is NO JOKE! I love to eat. This is maybe in the top 3 meals I've ever had. The waitstaff is outstanding - we have been lucky enough to have Ryan both times and he treats people like we are at his home. The sous chef never stops moving. She is amazing. What makes this head and shoulders the best seafood in PHX is Chef Tipp. Sign her up Guy Fieri - she is the real deal!!! Her secret sauce - a spicy pickled pepper mix that is so much flavor and heat that you find yourself adding it everywhere - is worth the trip! I'm a very big fan of this place. I'm blessed with the fact that it's close to my house! I've enjoyed pretty much everything on the menu, but always love the Shrimp Gumbo at a spice level of 6. It's a massive bowl and I usually take 1/3 to 1/2 home with me for later. Extremely nice chefs and servers who know how to seriously take care of their customers! Well worth the price for the quality and serving sizes you receive. The bread they give you is also absolutely fantastic! Can't say enough great things about Ocean Trail. Word to the wise, go during off peak hours as in Mid Afternoon and after 8pm. It's very small and gets very busy as it's extremely popular and has a huge following! This is one of the best kitchens in Scottsdale, and try to go in the evening when Tipp is the chef. The food is authentic Cajun and Creole, and the seafood is amazing. Everything is perfectly cooked, or chilled, and seasoned, and you can have as much or as little spice if you like on the wonderful seafood Pan Roasts. The service is excellent and all of the staff are welcoming, attentive, and seemed truly pleased to be able to assist you. Gilbert was wonderful and Tipp the chef, made time to make polite and gracious conversation. Amazing food, even if you don't like or are familiar with this type of cuisine, you must go. They have terrific lunch specials, and its less crowded during the day. Inside the Talking Stick Casino, but the tastes and flavors are worlds away. I will keep it simple here - This is the best place to have raw oysters in Phoenix, period. It's likely that you will be waiting for 20-30 minutes in line even if they are not busy. If you don't want to wait, go there at 10pm or later. I have tried so many raw oysters at different restaurants in town, but nothing like ocean trail's. Unbelievable how much grit, sand was in my clams. Ive been eating clams all over the country for years and never experienced this. Every bite was crunchy and I had to give up hope that it would get better. First choice was oysters that were on the menu but "not currently being served because of covid ". Service is nice, I wish they have more space. Food is good and fresh, they cook it right infant of you. I have shrimps with Creole sauce, from 1 to 0 spice, order 0 if you don't want to burn your mouth, number 1 is already very spicy. Look the only reason i am putting 3 stars is not because of the food, because of the wait. There is always a long line to get seated. I get your busy but maybe create a system to have a hostess or waiting list. Have a system where you can text the customer when their table is ready instead of standing for almost an hour. My family and i have been coming to Oceans Trail for better part of 3 years. As seafood restaurants go it is exceptional, as louisiana style goes it is the best in Arizona and rivals the best restaurants in New Orleans. From the moment you are seated by Jaime and Ryan you are transformed. Sit at the bar if you can and say hello to Tip. You will never have a better meal or experience then having Tip cook for you right before your eyes. And if your daring get your food spiced to a level 10 with a side of "Tip sauce" you will never no what hit you. Throw in CeCe, Eric, Evan and Wu and a better team you will not find. I have been to some of the finest restaurants around and they pale in comparison to food, ambience and customer service. I been going to ocean trail for years now. Always order the same dish " Shrimp Pan Roast." "TODAY" I took my mother for lunch and the pan roast tasted awful no texture. I notified server about the issue and he responded "that's how it's made". I told server this doesn't taste like pan roast and this isn't how pan roast should taste. He lacked customer service and didn't resolve the issue. He did make very clear the dish will still be charged even if the cook made another one. "ISSUE WASNT MONEY MY ISSUE WAS IT DID NOT HAVE TEXTURE NO CREAMY FLAVOR." I refused to have it remade and just paid for their awful dish. read more

We ordered the pan roast combo, shrimp cocktail, and clam chowder- YUM. First of all, the shrimp from the cocktail were gigantic; they must be on some serious growth hormones. Second, the clam chowder was the best my boyfriend has had. I personally think there could have been a bit more clam chunks. Lastly, the portion for the pan roast is giant. My boyfriend and I shared one and we were full. The base sort of tastes like a pasta sauce-tomato-y and they certainly do not skimp on their seafood. They ask you for your preference for spice on a scale of 1 to 10 and I asked for 5. I like to think I'm pretty tolerant against heat and I thought the 5 was perfect. Really disappointed with the service this time. Been here quite a few times and never seen it like this. There were only two of us and there were 10 open seats at the bar and they would not seat us. They said they had to seat the party ahead of us at a table because they had children. Waited 45 minutes in line. What the heck? To our surprise this place had Gunbo on the menu, in ours minds it was no contest, we wanted to be back on bourbon st. LA. So yum!! We had the gumbo and creole. Lunchtime and it was a half serving. More then plenty. The rolls were chewy and delicious. There was soooo much delicious seafood in both bowls.
