Went here with my husband for my birthday dinner after reading the good reviews. Thanks C.G. yours pretty much says it all--good call on avoiding the smoke, we sat on the other side of the casino floor. We love all types of seafood/spicy/ethnic food. I could have eaten dinner at Orange Sky (company was paying), but the menu at Ocean Trail looked more like us. I guess I still find more enjoyment and value in this type of food, at this price range. I can't fathom paying $40+ per plate for steak or American food, no matter who is paying. We haven't found a good Cajun/Creole place since moving far away from Baby Kay's to Chandler, or a good seafood restaurant since living in the Phoenix area, for that matter. I think I like Ocean Trail better than Baby Kay's, actually, as far as the flavor in the sauces, and we'll definitely be back when we crave fresh seafood. Their menu is limited to only a few dishes, but they do them very well. Having read the spicy/heat warning, we ordered our dishes a "4," and they were very flavorful with just the right amount of kick. The entree portions are huge, a bargain really. Most couples there were sharing their entrees (not us of course). Beware if you order appetizers and dinner and plan to spend the rest of your evening at the casino, like we did. When the chef came to ask if she could take our still half-full plates, we were pleasantly surprised when we asked if she could wrap and refrigerate the leftovers, and she said yes! I don't know if they do this for everyone, but we were very gracious and gave her a tip when we came back later to get the food. We stayed at the Talking Stick Resort for the first time and really enjoyed it. Inside is Ocean Trail and it was AWESOME! I had Oyster Shooter which had a large shucked oyster in Vodka and Bloody Mary mix. Then I had the Crawfish Gumbo that is fresh made from scratch right in front of you. I was very neutral about shrimp cocktails in general, before I came here. The freshness of the shrimp cocktail is a game changer. I will drive across town specifically for it. Truly an amazing restaurant that I cannot find in the Bay Area. Every time I come to Scottsdale for business, I come here at least twice. I had recently gone here for my boyfriend and my 3 year anniversary. Not exactly romantic with the casino players in the back ground but the food is definitely worth the price and time spent. The bread is out of this world and so is the gumbo. I cannot wait to try other things on the menu when i decide to go out with friends just for ocean trails. They do not stay open very late weekdays (9pm) but hopefully they stay open later weekends. Since we only ordered gumbo they give you the option of how spicy you would like it 1-10 5 being moderately spicy(in my opinion it has awesome flavor a little kick not too much heat)(But if you cant do spicy this might be a tad too spicy a 3-4 would be moderate for you but i can do spicier) I have never tried raw oysters but am willing to try next time and their are definitely cooked oysters in the gumbo along with shrimp and okra from what i remember along with a lot of other things as well along with some amazing dirty rice to mix in with it. This place is an absolute delight. It's located inside the talking stick casino. But even if you aren't into gambling I would highly suggest you make the trip. (Parking is free) the restaurant is relatively small but with a cool bar large circular type bar where you can see your food being finished off. I suggest eating at the bar for the full experience. My friend is a local regular so helped make some suggestions. 3 of us went and started with a (very) large Caesar salad with lump crab meat on top. I would consider just going back for the salad, but then the meals came out. We got 2 to share and could hardly finish them (we are 3 avid eaters mind you) We got a gumbo and a creole style dish with mixed seafood in them. You can designate your heat (spiciness) from 1-10 and I think there is some crazy level higher than that. If you're a wuss like me you get a 1 and it's still full of delicious flavor. This place is RIDIC. I crave the shrimp boil here like nothing else I have ever craved. The most amazing flavor. Go hungry because it's a lot of food & you will want to eat every last bite, lick the bowl clean even, it's so good. The oysters were delicious and my boyfriend and I sat there and tried to eat as many as we could but even then we didn't even hit the $175 ticket bill. The place is crazy small. Picture one bar and 5/7 tables around it. Yeah that small. The wait staff makes up for it as they were very sweet and pleasant. I was that annoying brat that needed her phone charged. And they took it from me and had one of their cooks charge it. Thus why I have no pictures sorry yelpers! The clam chowder wasn't as marvelous as Boston or San Francisco but still good consider you are in a land lock state. Such a hidden gem. Inside the talking stick casino right off the casino floor a little place that makes amazing Cajun inspired food. My wife and I had date night here and loved it! Be sure to get the red beans and rice. Really special. From the comments by other yelpers we ordered the pan roasted combo: combo of shrimp crawfish and scallops so good! And a huge portion, 2 people can share this with a side of red beans and rice. Pretty spicy...I think they have you do 1-5 or 1-10, 1 being lowest heat. I ordered the middle and a patron advised me to go lower if I wasn't prepared for spice. I went 2 numbers lower and it was way spicy. Voodoo Daddies in Tempe tries to be like Cajun and their 7/10 spice is weak. I thought this place would be like that too, no way! I had a pan roast it was really good. It's in Talking Stick casino. I sat at the bar because the table seating is kind of exposed to the rest of the casino. It's nice for a date place probably pricey but I don't remember it being outrageous. I think we spent $90 for 2 of us. We got appetizers too. read more

Their food was super fresh, excellently spiced, and reasonably priced. Portions were really big. You can order drinks and chat while they prepare the food. Go for the seafood creole if you like the authentic seafood taste. The server will tell you to pick spiciness from 3-10. It is really close to a 4 star but I can't. So I was excited about trying it because I go to Vegas about 3-5x a year and go to the Oyster Bar everytime where Bob prepares my food spice level 10. So my husband and I go and to Ocean Trail the set up I say is more glamorous than my delicious Oyster Bar. We went on a Saturday night so it was a little busy and too many staff members walking around and the waiter was never available when you needed him at the oyster bar there is the cook, server and a cleaner simple. So it was a bit confusing. I ordered a hurricane it was too sweet and no liquor. He ordered a long island just ok. We ordered half dozen oysters and combination gumbo spicy 8. There was a guy telling me it is too spicy to get a 10. The waiter said this is a lot spicier than the Oyster Bar so I believed them and got the 8. The oysters were dirty and small. The rolls and butter were delicious. The gumbo wasnot spspicy at all like eating baby food. So I ordered some ghost pepper "stuff" on the side and you have to sprinkle it to make it hotter with dirty rice. It was an ok date night. I will go back and try it again. read more

Finding Cajun food in the Phoenix metro area is a challenge for some reason. Thank goodness for Ocean Trail. The portions are huge, definitely good for two people. However we usually order a dish for each person knowing the will be some great left overs. Most of the seating is at the bar with a few tables for two or four. Expect to wait to be seated during busy times. The food is the star at Ocean trail, fresh and delish. We order 1 on a scale of 1 to 10. We ordered 3 and 4 before but they were way to hot. Had gumbo combo and corn chowder for dinner. Both are rich and a bit of salty. One gumbo could serve at least two people. The gumbo combo has all kind of seafood in it, like shrimp, mussels, crawfish, oysters, etc.. The gumbo taste is alright, but the oysters makes me almost throw up. The oysters in the gumbo are raw at room temperature in the hot gumbo, makes me feel it is not right, and not a good match. I would has the oysters fully cooked rather than drop it in the gumbo in raw. Don't get this wrong, I love to eat fresh raw oysters in half shell, but the oysters in the gumbo tastes like the oysters from the jars, and a bit of fishy. If you have a good stomach, might go have a try (at risk). If I go back again (less likely) will not order the one with oyster for sure... The environment is super noises, everyone is yell out loud to make a conversation, live band with super loud speaker is right next room plus expect to be 2nd hand smoker, very smokey inside the casino. Plus expect to wait in line for 30-60 minutes, the whole restaurant only has about 30 seats. I would recommend Baby Kay for gumbo. Taste better, better environment, and a bit cheaper. read more

Up from the Bay Area. Decided to try this place. I always am hesitant on Casino food specially seafood But this place is the Bomb. It's not what you think, it's located on the main floor of the casino in kind of a circular kiosk. It seats about 20. We decided on the steamed mussels and combination gumbo. The mussels was in a wine and garlic broth. The mussels were large and fresh. Drank all the broth. Followed up with the combo gumbo with medium heat. Portions was huge. Easy enough for two people. Great taste. Coming from seafood area I have to admit this was top three stuff. Our Chef Tipp and her staff was great and I will make sure I come back again...like tomorrow. read more

Great food & great wine .. The staff are friendly, and the service is great too. I was there on Wednesday's night, the whole casino wasn't crowded at all.. I got seated & served within 15 minutes.. Try their roast pan & pinot grigio wine! This wine got me insane and I went to do a night trip at 12 am .. Went to flagstaff driving on the 87 then 260 .. And got back home on i17 south ... So disappointed with our experience tonight. We have been bringing family and friends to Ocean Trail for a number of years and have always been more than satisfied with the service and outstanding food. Tonight was a different experience and I was compelled to warn others. We stopped in 10 minutes before closing and instead of telling us they didn't want our business, they decided to ruin our meal. After several excellent dining experiences at this restaurant, my husband and I are very familiar with the "number system" as it relates to the spice level of the entrees. After looking over the menu, we chose our meals and encouraged our friends and family and ordered a level 5 which is a what we have ordered on a number of occasions. Long story short, the 5 came out as a 10 and none of us could eat the food. My husband has had up to an 8 on many occasions and his gumbo at a 5 was not edible. My go to is always a 5 and my pan roast wasn't edible either and I assured my family a 5 was the way to go. Our waiter didn't attempt to explain the number system, but since we were repeat customers I don't think that would have mattered. My whole group was so disappointed in the meal, we are embarrassed that we recommended this place and probably will not go back, especially if the staff working tonight is there. Disappointing service as well we were not offered water and when we asked for it we given water in plastic glasses with no ice. Apparently customers are not welcome any time near closing. read more
