Good portions and one dish can be shared with two people. We ordered the combo gumbo and a bowl of seafood chowder and that was definitely too much food. I really like the chowder at first but as I continued eating, it started tasting a little salty. The combo gumbo was very hearty and I ate a lot of it. It was quite filling. The restaurant was really small and it made me feel like we were in an airport. Overall though, glad to try it but not sure I'll be back anytime soon. read more

This is my number 1 seafood spot for the Phoenix area. Ocean Trial is located inside Talking Sticks Resort. They offer an intimate setting 19 seats at bar 16 sets at the few tables they have. Be prepared to wait to get a seat during peak hours. They offer the best cajun seafood dishes: prepared with fresh seafood and ingredients at very affordable menu prices. The servers are always bubbly the chefs prepare you entrées in steam pots at the bar. It's an awesome experience to watch and even better to eat! read more

Ocean trail is located inside the Talking Stick Resort and Casino. It is a small restaurant that is open to the floor of the casino so the ambiance is not really there. The service was good for its location and the food came out quickly. Compared to most seafood places, it was average and if you'd like to try something different then this is a good place to do that. The beer clams were VERY small and tougher than usual, the mussels, red beans and rice were good, the collard greens were excellent.

Fantastic gumbo and ettoufee (forgive my spelling). Equal to the best I've had in New Orleans. The other seafood items are quite good as well; very good clam chowder, very good shrimp cocktail, etc. Just can't quite say great. Downsides ? Not many.... Somewhat of a limited menu, granted. You might have a bit of a wait for a table (sit at the bar, it's great !). Ah; it's in a casino, but yassir... We gamble a few times a year, so fair enough. Prices are about right.... Not cheap, not expensive. Noting; don't go above a "7" on the spice level.... We eat fire and an "8" had me w/ a tear in my eye... Again; the gumbo and ettoufee options are just outstanding; the other choices are very good. Went there to placed a to go order on Father's day to surprise my husband because he had been craving seafood etouffee. Keep in mind, I'm driving from East Mesa. I drove more than 25 miles there just for that. Had eaten there a few times and took a couple of take out during pandemic. Before, I got there, had called them twice and got hung up on. When I got there I had asked one bartender (he's a big tall dude) if I can order take out. He said no, we don't do take out today because we are busy. R u kidding me? Wow a restaurant inside a casino that's actually delicious. I got the seafood creole and it was perfect. Generous portions of scallops and lots and lots of seafood. It does take 30 min so I'm guessing that make it from scratch. I ordered it to go and it was piping hot. Also came with 4 rolls that were crunchy outside and soft inside. I didn't notice the entree wasn't cooked to temp because it wasn't mine. My partner woke up at 4am puking with chills. Still as good as we remember! Today was my boyfriend's birthday and I told him we could go anywhere he wanted for dinner. Since it's been so long since we last came, he decided on Ocean Trail. Showed up on a Thursday night around 8:00 at night. Since there are only a few tables and I believe 18 seats around the bar, we were a little worried that we would have to wait in line to get in but there wasn't much of a wait. They had to clean up a spot but there were seats available for us and probably 8 other seats available. Started our meal with the crab meat cocktail ($20) and it was essentially a martini glass with crab meat with a side of remoulade and cocktail sauce. It was a yummy start since I'm a huge fan of crab. Brian and I both ordered the pan roast combo (crawfish, crab and shrimp) but he got his without crawfish. I chose the spicy level of 3, which is medium, and he got 6 again. Seriously, I don't know how he enjoyed it so much because I felt like mine was pretty hot for medium. Both of us had dirty rice with our meals and of course, I ordered an extra side of rice - it's the Asian in me There is also complimentary rolls that we dipped in our meals. This was my cheat meal for the week so one roll for me and the rest for my boyfriend... The both of us took at least half of our meals home too! I know some people don't like reheating seafood but it's so good! Can't let it go to waste and it's honestly still good after reheating it. I asked if they did anything for birthdays and they brought out a slice of chocolate cake with a candle. It was perfect for my sweet tooth even though it's not my birthday. He doesn't usually care for sweets but he had at least 3 bites - which is a lot for him. I LOVE Cajun/creole food and also being a New Orleans food lover, I know how hard it is to find delicious Étouffée. For a first timer I was extremely surprised at how well the chef here whipped me up some authentic seafood (crawfish, crab, and shrimp) Étouffée. I ate it twice in a row. Also while I was there, they had a special for seafood Alfredo and I must say that NEEDS to be a permanent dish on the menu. Rich and flavorful. Awesome spot, and even cooler is that if you sit at the bar, you can watch your food being made in front of you! Came out for my birthday eve dinner. I chose the pan roast with shrimp and crab, level 5 spice. He chose the combo gumbo with all the meats, level 7. He also got the clam chowder and I got the caesar salad. We both loved our entrees. We asked the chef what her favorite dish was and she pointed to a pan of seafood creole she was cooking up and let us sample some. We'll definitely come back for that dish too. She also let us try her special hot sauce, named after herself (Tipp sauce). It was a blend of very unique flavors with a really nice kick. I love a casino and even better when it has good food. This my second time at Ocean Trail, but this time the dirty rice was a bit mushy, not pictured. The white rice made up what was lacking in the dirty rice. The gumbo with a choice of 5 level spice was delicious. My coworker had Caesar salad and another companion had the chowder and red beans and rice. I tried the red beans and rice and not quite impressed. I'm compelled to return, because maybe it was an off day for the dirty rice. If the service wasn't so good, I would have downgraded the rating. read more

I was originally going to try one of the crab in a bag type of places (I've never done this before and I felt like getting a little messy). After reading reviews that the food tasted frozen I took a hard pass. Hubby wanted to gamble and I wanted to eat. Perfect marriage by going to Talking Stick, just like me and my husband. :) Everything was super fresh and delicious. The spice in my husband's gumbo was perfect at a 6. We shared the mussels to start and they were yummy too. I had a Cesar salad that seemed to be growing more lettuce babies as I ate it. It took me forever and I was basically full by the time I got my seafood chowder. I had a couple of bites of the chowder before I asked to take it to go. Now, it's early in the morning and Chowder Time! This is so good! My only complaint is that I've found tiny pieces of shell or skin from the sea creatures. I four them last night as well. I hate having to search my mouth to find this stuff. Also, my salad was extremely cold. I watched them make a few of them after I got mine and it looks like they throw it into a blast chiller before serving it. Next time I'm going to ask them to skip that step. I prefer something closer to room temp for my salads. I had a glass of prosecco and my husband had a mule made with Hendricks Gin. We live in Nevada and are aware that the price for a mile with top shelf alcohol there would have been probably double the cost. My wine was only a little over six dollars. It was a generous pour too. The service was great. The person that took our order was fine. The lady that makes all of the food asked us how we were doing (we sat at the bar). Whenever I try a pan roast, I always compare it to the best of the best, which is Oyster Bar at Palace Station in Vegas. Unfortunately, the pan roast at Ocean Trails lacked richness, creaminess, and complexity. I suggest adding a bit of brandy to add some depth to the pan roast, similar to what the OB in Palace Station does. Also, I found it amusing that the order ticket we received had ASIAN written on it, as in, hey server, look for the asian couple when serving the food. I really like Ocean Trail a lot. If you like seafood and a Louisiana vibe and feel of food and in the area it's a go to for me. I'm rating this 4 stars because of the service. 5 stars for the food and the chefs making it happen. The service is sometimes slow and they don't really care to have much of a conversation with you. It's a burn and turn. They don't quickly fill up drinks (most of the time) and sometimes it takes a while for the bill. No smile when you walk up or anything. I mean this place gets busy l but at least smile or something. The food. I always get the Pan Roast Combo with dirty rice at a level 6-7 and wow it is awesome. The flavors are spicy, the seafood is prevalent and always a great portion, the dirty rice is perfect to mix and I even add some of the hot sauces they have. I recommend that dish always. Also if you sit at the bar the chefs I've met are cool and nice to talk to. There is one individual who I'm not a fan of and he I don't think he cares about anyone. Whatever the food is good and a little gambling before or after is also nice. Maybe after so you aren't ticked before you eat. read more

I desperately wanted gumbo and this is one of my top go-to for GUMBO. Sadly, we arrived to find it was only Grab & Go. We ended up leaving to visit Baby Kay's to get our fix. We live quite far so we needed to be able to do a dine-in. We have been coming here for years and highly recommend this restaurant. Throughout my experience there has only been one time I was disappointed and it was solely based on a drink I had ordered years ago. I ordered one of their special cocktails and it was already pre-mixed in a pitcher. I told the server/bartender to take it back since they weren't going to freshly mix the cocktail. Since then I have only ever ordered beer or wine. I despise lazy bartenders... Fresh rolls and real butter is served but be careful as they are addictive. My favorite part of ordering Gumbo here is they offer a Cajun scale. I typically order mine at a 7 and if it isn't spicy enough I add in the spicy garlic sauce. A dinner size portion could easily feed two people; otherwise you'll have a meal to take home which is nice. Shrimp cocktail is amazing and the Caesar salad is delicious as we typically split that as well. read more

I recently moved to California and I am back visiting and LISTEN...I just cannot with how delicious the shrimp boil is.. probably the best thing I've ever eaten in life. The shrimp is always cooked perfectly and if you love spice, this is the place to go! They have their spice level go from a 1-10 and I always choose 8..listen I start sweating when I eat it but it's so good that you literally can't stop taking bites. My wife and I have been regular customers to Ocean Trail over the past few years and just wanted to reiterate there is no other spot in the Phoenix Valley area that compares to OT. Always start with fresh crab cocktail or shrimp cocktail, fresh oysters and/or oyster shooters followed by gumbo or one of the other exceptional hot pots with Louisiana twist. The fresh hot baked bread that accompanies the meal is most likely some of the best to start any meal anywhere. We've tried the soup many times which are all delicious too. My main reason to review OT again is the true star of visiting OT in the first place and that's TIPP, the chef! Without a doubt, she is the most talented chef to watch as she prepares all aspects of your meal as well as frequently personally serves. TIPP gifted us with a beautiful hand made Christmas tree ornament recently that was very special and appreciated. She always recognizes us and assists in making our evening very special each and every visit whenever she is there which is about 95% of the time. OT is very fortunate to have TIPP as an employee and we're very fortunate to have been blessed to enjoy her cooking talents over the past few years! Keep up the great customer service! I have to say this spot is just like oyster bar in las vegas. They sell basically the same things. Me and my friends got pan roast and some oysters. I dont really like oysters but they do and they said it was really good. The pan roast is just as good. I got the seafood one with rice on the side because i dont like my rice all soggy if i decide to take long to eat. They have different levels of spice but upon request you can get it even spicier. They have ghost peppers and habaneros if i recall. She brings it out while wearing gloves. I got the first one and it wasnt spicy enough so i got the second one also. It was spicy but still tolerable and it made the pan roast that much better. If arizona wasnt so far compared to las vegas i would definitely come here. Service was great and very fast! read more

This is one of my top ten restaurants in the valley. I bring family & friends here and they all love it. I've tried nearly everything on the menu & I haven't eaten anything I dislike. Best to avoid the weekends Friday & Saturday nights can have you waiting a while to be sat. It's definitely worth the wait but better to take advantage of going during a slower time for them. Seating is limited & on a first come first serve basis. Chef Tipp is amazing! I don't think she ever takes a day off. Highly recommended for a wonderful evening out. read more

Eating at a casino restaurant would normally not be a decision I'd choose, but Ocean Trail was a delightfully delicious surprise! Both the Seafood Corn Chowder and the Shrimp Broil were amazing. When ordering the broil, one has a choice of spiciness from 1-7. My husband chose 4 and it was right on point. Not too spicy but very flavorful with fresh-tasting shrimp. The Caesar salad and warm, fresh bread were also very tasty. As far as only giving 4 stars instead of 5, the entrees took a very long time to come out. But, as mentioned above, everything was extremely fresh and piping hot, so I can't really complain. My advice would be to definitely order more (free) bread and get either an appetizer or salad to hold you over. Another piece of advice would be to eat at an odd time as the line can get quite long- more objective evidence of how delicious the food is! We went around 2:30pm and were seated right away.
