Solid food and an exceedingly pleasant staff makes Ocean View Family restaurant an ongoing favorite among my family and friends!!

My family and I have come here for several years during our family beach vacations. We visited a few days ago and I noticed that the food quality and decor has improved. I got the home style -- eggs, sausage and double potatoes since I couldn't have the toast. I really liked the seasoning on the potatoes and the sausage. The potatoes had herbs in them so I appreciated the fact that there was more to the flavor than just straight up salt. The eggs were well cooked. The coffee (both decaf and regular) was weak even though they remade the decaf for my Dad. I also wish they offered gluten free bread since it would have increased my options tremendously. I've never eaten inside, only gotten takeout, so I'm not sure what it's like to actually be there. The parking lot is always packed and there's a line outside a lot of the time, too, so my coworkers and I decided to try them for takeout lunch once. I really enjoyed my burger, but they were a little disappointed that there was no pastrami for their sandwiches. They got some other sort of club sandwich instead, which they thought was alright. We tried again a week or two later, and still no pastrami. I wonder if it's so popular that they run out throughout the week (we got our food on Fridays) or if they just forgot to order it, or if there was a supply issue...anyhow, they were a bit annoyed that it was out of stock two tries in a row. The second time I got fish and chips and so did one of my coworkers and we both thought it was alright. I wasn't expecting anything fantastic, since it's a diner and not a seafood place, but they were pretty soggy and small pieces. The girl who was working up front when I went to pick up the food was really nice and friendly, though, so maybe eating inside the place adds more to it. I might try them again, but I'll have to exhaust quite a few other options in the area first. read more

We've been going to Bethany for years but never stopped into the Oceanview, maybe because we thought it was only a fish market. My wife had cod and I had stuffed haddock. We were both pleased with the quality of the fish and the cooking though the flavor was a bit on the light side. The atmosphere is divey but the silverware was clean and the service was pleasant. It is a good place to have a basic meal and mix with the locals if you are looking for a break from beachfare. read more

Very good diner food at great beach prices. Don't let the outside decor deter you from this location. It might not look like much but it has great food and very reasonable prices. I got the grilled tuna steak with a baked potato and apple sauce and everything was wonderful. Others in our party got the roast beef, catfish, and fish and chips. Everyone was happy with their meal. My wife and I, along with two others, went to this place for Sunday morning breakfast. we got there around 10 am or so and had about a 15 min wait. They seem to turn the people over fairly quickly. Parking is a little tight but there is enough. This place is an neat little spot. It is an old building with old/americana decor. There are old style booths, formica tops and seats at a counter. They also have a fire place and they decorate for various holidays. Today, there was just American flag type of items there. We had the Homestyle breakfast and two had the pancakes. The homestyle is 2 eggs, 2 pieces of toast, home fries and either sausage or bacon. The sausage was very good and the eggs cooked well. The pancakes were very large. THe staff were quite nice and friendly. She checked in with us multiple times during the meal. The prices are VERY reasonable! This is definitely a place to try if you are in the area and want to have a good homestyle breakfast. read more

We stay in Ocean View during our Bethany trips, and we've always noticed a line of people waiting outside Ocean View Family Restaurant during breakfast hours. One day we decided to try it, and ever since this place has been a breakfast vacation spot for us. The restaurant is clean and casual, and seems to appeal to both locals and tourists. The interior is decorated in a country charm style, with both Christian and patriotic decor. The food served is homestyle. And though the dinner/supper wasn't anything to rave about, the breakfast is where this place really shines! The homefries are little bits of fried potato goodness. The eggs are fresh and cooked to order... no powdered omelette mix here! The sausage gravy--pronounced "excellent" by my partner--is obviously homemade and very flavorful. The kids' pancakes were light and fluffy, and accompanied by crisp bacon. The service is friendly and efficient, with plenty of coffee refills. And the price is very reasonable considering the ample portion sizes. Ocean View Restaurant will remain a regular stop for us when we're in Bethany. read more

Wow... 6 stars out of 5. A beautiful microcosm of America in the most adorable small town diner setting imaginable. Upon entry, I was enthralled with the historic, inviting, quaint atmosphere.....the abundance of warm smiling faces from the local community filled my heart with a calming sense of joy and holiday spirit. The chocolate. Oh. My. Goodness. This is chocolate milk I've ever had. Although they didn't have almond milk to top off my coffee, the regular milk must have come from the healthiest most loved cow in all of Delaware...bc wow it was delish. Went to this local spot today for breakfast and honestly did not expect much from it. I got there with a group of friends, there were 7 of us and it was rather packed, so we waited about 15-20 minutes to get seated. The ambiance is very casual, mom and pop type of place. I ordered the #1 which came with two eggs, meat and toast, plus 1 chocolate chip pancake on the side. EVERYTHING WAS PERFECTLY COOKED. I have been to IHOP's where they've served me horrendous food. DONT LET THE LOOKS DECEIVE YOU! If you need to try one thing I'd recommend the PANCAKES. All of my friends loved them. I will definitely be coming back here. If you're a fan of dive restaurants then you'll be a fan at this place. There was a wait which is a good sign. There staff there were very friendly. This place has been around for a while. This place is tucked off from Rt 1 but not far. It is a small building. I ordered the Philly Cheesesteak Omelet with home fries and wheat toast. The omelet was very good but it could use some more cheese. The potatoes were okay but lacked some flavor. They did have good toast with little flecks of grains. They did also have Smuckers jelly. The thing to rave is their coffee! They do advertise that they carry Colombian coffee and it was strong and had great flavor. read more

Found this place on Yelp after trying few other spots near our hotel in Bethany Beach. It was a weekday so I am sure the crowd was thinner but service and food was prompt. We ordered breakfast basics...pancakes, bacon, eggs, toast, grits. I am really picky when it comes to grits because it had to be the right consistency and texture. The grits were pretty good and just needed some salt. Nice portion sizes so you definitely get your fill. Overall, a pleasant experience with friendly service from the staff. read more

Why this place doesn't have 5 is beyond me! I asked someone down in Bethany Beach where is the good breakfast on weekdays and was quickly directed here! I'm so glad! I loved the old school feel when you walk in and the workers where amazingly kind and professional. The food was DELICIOUS !!!! Then learning it's a whole family business was the icing on the cake. Went from a recommendation and was very pleased. Small intimate place counter seating and tables. Parking can be tough but I was there early (7:30) and it was a Friday so no issues. Coffee was plenty and hot Waitress was super friendly as were some of the regulars who were there. Prices are reasonable if not cheap compared to other places. I had the one and one ( 1 egg 1 pancake 1 meat and toast ) all for $6:50 Coffee was $2:50 with refills. Total $9 plus tip. Can't go wrong with that. The restaurant was homey and welcoming. It was busy, but my party of 5 was seated immediately around 12pm on a Saturday. How great! The waiters were so kind and upbeat and the food was served quickly. There was a small hiccup where one person in my party got the wrong dish, but the servers fixed that real fast and were very apologetic about it. I got the asparagus and feta cheese omelet with home fries and rye bread. It was tastey and a great deal for the price. The potatoes were a little bland, but ketchup fixes that.
