Last night we went to Oceano for dinner. My husband ordered the $25.00 prefix, starting with a delicious crab cake appetizer. 2nd course, salmon with potato and last course bread pudding. I enjoyed a strawberry-spinach spring salad and sea bass with a spring risotto. We love the atmosphere, service...One of my favorite restaurants in Saint Louis. So I arrived there and everything was good up until it came time to pay. Apparently you have to sign a whole ass contract for a reservation for 20 in the corner however the day of 20 people didn't show. But he was still trying to hold us to a 1,500 dollar minimum, mind you the seats wasn't anything great, the service wasn't all that, it wasn't like we rented the place out. And technically I never signed or electronically consented to anything because in the email the "the contract" didn't load up so I didn't know what it was. So he held us there for a good hour and a half. Apparently to get on the phone with his boss, and he kept saying different numbers, first it was 1,900 then it was 1,500 then it was 1,200 then it was 1,000. We finally settled on a number that was 700 mind you my godmother already gave them 380 for there lack-luster food and service. Our table of 14 bought up almost 500 dollars worth of stuff and they are still trying to het over. Everyone has to pay together. Most of us had cash however my cousin had card so long story short they overcharged my cousin's card. Doing the whole mess he keeps saying " I'm going to lose my job I'm going to take the hit for this" my whole thing was this I never signed the contract so my table should have only been responsible for what we ate/bought and we were ready and willing to pay that but he wouldn't let us and in the end we all payed about 25-30 dollars more before we were finally able to pay and leave. All in all it was the worst experience in a restaurant in my life. I wanted to go somewhere nice for my 20th birthday party. This place is near work and has a nice menu. It is reasonable for lunch but i think dinner is a bit pricier. Service is always excellent. It was a bit ago that I was there and i am just now writing the review. I had a nice lunch and we sat in the tables by the windows that open so we got a great breeze. My boyfriend and I visited Oceano for the first time last week and we were incredibly pleased by the level of customer server we received. While the ambiance of the restaurant didn't seem like anything special, our waiter is credited with making up for it ten fold by making 5 star recommendations with his own touch of personality and conversation that will keep us coming back - I only wish I could remember his name. My boyfriend and I started off with the Mussels as an appetizer which were delectable. The waiter recommended the seafood chowder to my boyfriend, which he loved and I had the spinach salad per our waiter's recco, which was also delicious. Being a newbie with exploring seafood, the waiter recommended I have the Scallops, which he said would be the best I would have in St. Louis. They were a bit spicy given the hint of red pepper sprinkled in the delicious sauce on top of a portabella mushroom, which is right up my alley. My boyfriend had the Sea bass which he said was better than he has had in the past. Overall, great food, great service. read more

This place was suggested by the manager of the Homewood Suites Galleria a mile down the road for its awesome sea food. I am usually wary of "land locked" sea food since Missouri is a ways from the ocean but I was not disappointed at Oceano Bistro. I had an ample balsamic house salad that was larger than I expected for a small sized portion. Then I moved on to the lunch Grilled Trout with sautéed Asparagus, Eggplant and Tomatoes over a light but slightly sweet proprietary sauce that made this dish really sing :-) I finished it off (as per my server ZACH's request) with the Filo Brownie which by itself is a good reason to visit this location. A warm, gooey real fudge brownie (not that cake-y stuff that they serve at lower rent places) wrapped in filo dough and deep fried then garnished with Serendipity (of NYC) Brand Vanilla Ice Cream then smothered in more chocolate (and vanilla?) sauce! Amazing finish to a spectacular meal. The best part is that it was exactly the right amount of food! I left feeling satisfied not stuffed! I will come here again when in town :-) read more

Oceano has been a family favorite for years, and they continue to uphold the quality and live up to high expectations, never disappointing! We've ordered pretty much everything on the menu by this point, and I can honestly say it's all worth it. Recently, we tried their new Sunday brunch offering. What a wonderful addition! The frittata, hash, and omelette we shared were all excellent. If you've never been to Oceano, it's definitely one of the highlights of STL cuisine, ESPECIALLY in the seafood department! My fiance and I went to Oceano Bistro a while back for Clayton restaurant week, it was too good of a deal to pass up. We packed up a nice bottle of champagne and off we went! The food was fantastic, I had a vegetable pasta dish with shrimp, and he a petit filet (he's a big red meat eater). Even though it was during a high volume time (probably the busiest of the year), our server was still very kind and accommodating. Everything was great - until the manager came up. He heckled her champagne opening skills and right at the table belittled her... very awkward.. My fiance and I just sat in embarrassment for a good 3 minutes while the whole thing was going on. When he left she went right back to being sweet and apologized and claimed she was friends with his daughter or something, as if it was a casual thing... either way very unprofessional. After this we had the Hawaiian bread pudding, it was so delicious, totally melt in your mouth fantastic! So fast forward to the end of dinner... We request to make a donation to operation food search. We are then told by our server that we have to either "leave it in cash or leave it on her tip" and that that's just the way it's done. Little did she know I was finishing up my last week serving at another restaurant in Clayton, and have worked 7 restaurant weeks. I know this is not how things are done, representatives from OFS are very specific on this prior to CRW. Do not let them trick you into thinking this is how things are done! 3 stars because the food was AMAZING, but they also need to clean their act up. read more

I was relatively unimpressed with Oceano, and it's not because I don't like seafood. The restaurant to me was just kind of "blah." It lacked the trendy, hot spot vibe that I envisioned and in place was an old-fashioned italian "Olive Garden" look and feel. The food was great but pricy. The wine list was notable but quite expensive. Overall, I wouldn't go back. Trust me, my review won't hurt sales. The place was crowded with a much older clientele (ready to spend a lot more money than me). If you're in the mood for fish, I don't know any other direction to point you. If you're in the mood for anything else, I'd recommend somewhere other than Oceano Bistro. read more

Dinner for 4 on a Thursday night at 7. Seated immediately and the waiter was quick with water and help. He gave us some time as our 4th person was not yet there yet. Brought wine right away. Our waiter was Sam and he was fantastic. Very attentive, and engaged in conversation when we talked with him, yet never was intrusive. Smiled from ear to ear most of the night. Appetizers were crab cakes and calamari. Crab cakes were a little mushy and calamari chewy, but the sauces served with calamari were great. 3 of us ordered the scallops, and the 4th ordered lobster tails. The scallops were absolutely perfectly seared and the sauce was delicious. I swear it was one of the top 5 meals I've had in my life. Dessert was bread pudding and it was delicious. My wife and have been to this restaurant and was treated exceptionally by the manager Robert. The food was excellent and the service was great. I am a promoter of upscale, community based events and was very interested in bringing my followers to the establishment.. Robert was elated at the idea and passed my information to a Tim Corley for a follow up call. The call never came.. Ok maybe he lost the information got busy and forgot etc.. A couple months later I called and spoke to Amer (I think is the owner) pitched an idea of bringing 100 people to Oceano Bistro for a Jazz Brunch.. Offering a guarantee PAID UP FRONT.. For my party and the entertainment was my expense as well. Amer was very excited, verbally committed then advised he'd like me to speak with Tim. Amer was great as well. Mind you this event would be scheduled on a Sunday as I've witnessed no more than 10-12 people come and go each time I've been there. The do a half price happy hour on Sundays and I was willing to pay $15 a person, average menu pricing for my event. TIM got involved, when he found out I was a black man, attempted to strip down my event, advising I could have my Violinist but not my Saxophonist and attempted to charge me $50 a person.. I respectfully declined, advise of his undertone and began my campaign to call out this hidden racism displayed by Tim. Nice place and Robert and Amer seem like nice people.. My boyfriend and I went this past weekend to celebrate our anniversary and my birthday not only was the food AMAZING but the service was unbelievable! We had Jay as our waiter and he was GREAT!! He was super detailed and explained things on the menu in detail. He did the sweetest thing with the oil dip for the bread he put "4" to represent the number of years we had been together and also put a happy anniversary sign on our dessert. We didn't get photos of our food that's how good it was. We had the crab cakes, Kobe beef sliders, lobster tail, and the seafood risotto. The restaurant is nice and service was good but portions were small and pricey. I ordered warm water sea bass which I have never heard of and, I travel the country for work. I really enjoy seafood but this dish was 35.00 for so, so taste. No salad, soup or vegetable comes with, only a bed of rice mixture under the bass. Now my wife had chicken that she said was delicious, my grandson had salmon (very small portion also) and his fiance had chicken salad. Over all the cost didn't warrant the food. read more

I went here on a humbug with one of my girlfriends. Great idea! It's a small setting, but it's intimate, so I like that. We sat on the patio, which is freakin cute! Anywho, first off, the bread that comes with the olive oil is really good! I had my go-to drink, pomegranate martini, which was done perfectly. Ok, I had a couple of my go-to drinks but this is a no judge zone. For my entree, I had the sea bass with asparagus and a sweet corn and asparagus risotto, and it was so good, my mouth is watering thinking about it now. Our waiter interjected inappropriately during our table conversation EVERY time he approached, forgot my drink order entirely and had a condescending sense of humor. It may have just been our bad luck to get this waiter. The service almost overshadowed the excellent taste of the food. I had the fennel dusted scallops with portobello mushroom and asparagus in citrus buerre - 3 large scallops cooked perfectly with a few pieces of thinly sliced fennel and micro greens, all nested on top of a marinated portobello mushroom, surrounded by steamed asparagus, all of this sitting on top of a plateful of but flavorful citrus buerre; a complimentary combination of flavors. My colleagues had the sea bass both of which stated were fresh, excellently prepared and wonderfully delicious. We will try once more when in town again because of the great tasting food, but service/manners need improvement otherwise there are many other wonderful restaurants close by to choose from. read more

Went for Mother's Day brunch. $55/person was a bit of a shock, but this was our first time eating at Oceano and previous reviews were all 4+stars so we gave it a chance. The buffet was advertised to contain 100+ items. False! I would describe the buffet as a mediocre hotel $25 buffet. For a seafood place, we expected decent seafood. False! Shrimp were small, oysters were really fishy and not at all good, the crab legs were decent. No other fish choices visible. The service was not good, we had a stack of dirty plates a few times and waited for our server several times outside the 'normal' service time for drinks and the bill. Once the bill arrived we were also shocked to learn that coffee and juice was NOT covered in the $55. The mimosas were smallish but pretty good and the Bloody Mary was really pretty good. I have lost count of the amount of times that we have dined in this restaurant, and I can honestly say that it is one of my favorite St. Louis Bistros, and possibly my favorite. Being from NYC, the only food cravings I have are for seafood & pizza. Oceano handles the seafood arena with perfection every time, and I always leave feeling that I have had a fantastic meal.
