We were so impressed! We ordered the burria tacos, and they were incredible. Everything was hot coming out, rice was also very good, and the sauce is the star of the show. The meat is tender and they give a great portion. The service was great--we came on a Saturday for lunch and were seated immediately. They gave us chips and salsa and our server greeted us quickly. Food came out within 10 minutes of ordering. Our drinks were consistently filled. We sat inside, but the outside seating area looked great if the weather is nice. They will REFUSE if you ask for separate checks, then will only give you up ONE BIG CHECK, NO EXCEPTIONS!! Would have been nice to have known this prior to making our reservation here. Service was terrible. Waitress apparently did not understood English, could not help with answering questions on the menu. When the check came, she refused to separate the bill into 2 bills When we started to get the manager to complain, lo and behold, she understood English. Also, there was a large both of 8-10 kids that were jumping all over and screaming. The parents were sifted somewhere else and did not pay attention to their kids. I second the positive review I read about about Roberto (Gomez) there are two Roberto's, but we had Roberto G. He was SUCH a delight! Such a great personality, patient & very accurate server. We'd go back just to sit at his table. We've also had great service from David. The bar could use a little more personality behind it, but everyone we've encountered there has been pleasant. The homemade tortillas are so good, just wish more came with an order of fajitas - only getting 3 included when spending that much money on fajitas, at least give 4. Food is amazing but it went from having to flag down the waiter for your check to now an insane amount of bugs. I couldn't even enjoy my meal and it bothered me so bad it destroyed my dinner conversation. I ended up having to take Benadryl when I went home. Chips and salsa are both really good. I got the uno. The pan fried crispy beef tacos were really good. I honestly am not a huge crispy taco fan as I think most are meh. These were really good. It came with a soft cheese taco. I was expecting queso on the cheese taco but it had a verde sauce. It was good, just not what I was expecting. It had a tamale that was pretty good and I'm not a huge tamale fan. I tried the pork dish with the mole verde was tasty. Came with really good flour tortillas. I sent a group of my kids and their friends and they got sat in the back in the private room with Roberto towards the end of the night they said that he was a fun and great waitress service was amazing but like always they kept talking about how amazing the hostess Joanna was. She was very attentive and fun to talk to (This is what my kid and their friends stated.) from what was told from the beginning of them calling to see if there were space and then getting there and getting service to the table she was very friendly and kept the smile the whole way to the table she then had a small talk with them and they clicked right off the back. They wish she could've stayed there with them the whole time they were getting serviced, but obviously she couldn't so she came and let them know she was leaving and they invited her for a for a drink after she was off the clock and they really enjoyed having great conversation with her. Super grateful for her hospitality towards my kids and their friends can't ever go wrong with her. my older one stated that they wish she was a server so they can request her all the time. I don't know what the heck happened in three months, but we visited Odelay again last night and it seemed like a totally different restaurant than before. I ordered the same chicken breast dish as I'd previously reviewed, but instead of being large, plump, and tender it resembled something from a domestic airline meal during the early 1990s. The tiny, thin fillet was maybe 4oz at best and was as dry and tough as a ranch hand's boot leather. My companion's gorditas were greasy and uninspired. The service was passable. I can't get over that house ranch waters are $15 each at what is essentially a bush-league case study in culinary mediocrity. So why is it then that Odelay is constantly crowded? My hypothesis is that it's a result of an under-supply of "modern" dining options in the Lovers/Inwood neighborhood (for the HUGE demand in the area) rather than Odelay being anything remotely approaching worthy of popularity on its own merits. But hey, at least the hostess was welcoming this time. read more

When I sat down to enjoy my chiles relleno dinner, I was transported to the heart of Mexico. The poblano peppers were so big and juicy, they practically begged to be stuffed with cheese and fried to perfection. And let me tell you, the cook did not disappoint. Extremely poor service with rude staff and excessive wait times once you sit down. When we arrived we were curtly greeted by the hostess that told us it would be 1:30 wait. Knowing that this was a popular place we added our name to the list. After less than an hour, we were seated. However,after waiting 20 minutes (and even ordering drinks from the bar while we waited at our table) no wait staff ever appeared to take our order or even acknowledge us. The Food: I ordered the UNO dinner which consisted of a puffed taco, cheese enchilada and a tamale (with no meat). It was a cheese overload. Which was more cheese than I expected and super heavy. The puffed taco had ground beef that was ground to a pasty consistency which is never good but it was tasty. The rice was flavorful and the refried beans lacked salt. Guacamole was good but also needed salt. The salsa was bland because it needed salt and lacked spiciness. In my opinion a salsa without spice, is not a salsa at all. Someone in the kitchen doesn't like salt or spice. The Service: Was good. I don't like restaurants that do not have salt and pepper on the table. The food definitely needed seasoning so I had to ask.
