The food is good but not stellar. It's a diner. I find that their prices to have risen more than the level of inflation. So now the takeout plate is costing more than $20. The price is by weight and I don't even really pile it on..... Location is convenient, parking is easy. I will likely return despite the high prices. So i came here for the OK UYE event it was nice meeting everyone..... This was my first time at this establishment.....it is located in the same plaza as publix....it was extremely easy to find. The architect of the building makes it easy to spot from the street. The decor was a little dated but the decor matched the ambiance...NOT TOO MANY YOUNG FACES IN THE CROWD. The place was packed with guest but you could not tell ...Our service was pretty good considering the number of individuals dining.... Before ordering i was skeptical, i did not think the food would taste well, even though the smell of good food saturated the air.....I ordered the veggie burger with squash souffle..... It was very good. A good veggie burger is hard to find most are frozen and processed premade burgers..I was surprised this one was't . It also came on a wheat bun with fried pickles yum.....The veggie burger seemed homemade.... squash was also tasty. Don't go by prices on Yelp it is cheaper when you get there. Went for lunch. I had the meatloaf sandwich on Texas toast. It came with mayo which was okay to. The Cafe is on the edge of a busy shopping plaza. Parking was a bit challenging, as the lot is in front of Publix. As we walked up, people were sitting outside and the line of people standing was to the door. One of the waiting customers told us to go check in at the hostess stand. We were told that the wait would be 15 minutes... we were seated in less than five. The ambiance is family friendly and the epitome of old school cafe... bright lighting and booths. The waitresses wore cute matching uniforms and had great energy. (Our waitress was AMAZING.) But the food... (big sigh) the food exceeded all expectations. We ordered rotisserie chicken, green beans, and baked sweet potato; (2) country fried steak, kale salad, and collard greens; and (3) bacon cheeseburger and fries. The food was fresh and prepared ridiculously well. Total package, this is by far one of the best meals I've had this year. It's a cafe... my expectations were low... but OK Cafe is not just OK... it is exceptional! They have perfected the perfect balance: excellent food, excellent service, and great ambiance. We had such a great experience at this historical Atlanta breakfast joint. It is named after the cafe in the classic Southern Gothic novel To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee. I opted for a single strawberry griddle cake with turkey sausage and my daughter got the original griddle cakes. I asked ahead to make sure they weren't just plopping frozen strawberries on the top, and she assured me it was more of a syrup/jam consistency. We got breakfast potatoes to share. I will say that they don't have the regular Coca-Cola (weird for Atlanta) or Pepsi products, but they do offer a strange cola on fountain. This place reflects the name, OK. It's almost like a step above waffle house to me. Not as good as Egg Harbor Cafe but a little cleaner than Waffle House. I typically just have eggs, breakfast meat, biscuit and coffee. This time I had the egg white veggie omelet, which looked really weird. A white blob with breakfast potatoes and a biscuit came out to the table. The omelet had mushrooms, tiny diced onions and green peppers stuffed inside, but it was obvious they weren't all cooked together. The creole sauce that comes with it tasted like salsa honestly. I had the mimosa, $6.99, nice presentation and pretty strong. It's packed every time I come here, which is on a Sunday. So I usually end up sitting at the bar. This last time the service was awful. I had 3 servers come to take my drink order, food order, and bring my food out before I actually saw my actual server. I probably won't be back for a while. Never disappoints!!! A vegetable plate is my regular order, but the pot roast, chicken pot pie, and salmon are sometimes on the rotation. Collard greens, marinated cucumbers, squash casserole, mashed potatoes (homemade!) with pot roast gravy, and lady peas are among my favorites. Corn muffins are yummy too! If you get knocked out in the parking lot, that's the KO Cafe. This is a lovely little Southern Style Diner in the rich Northern suburbs of Atlanta. Not too far from downtown and close to Buckhead. My favorite dish is the country fried steak which I got because I read a review about it. It was excellent! Prices and breakfast food are just mediocre so I will give it 4 stars until I get to try more stuff. 10 starts for the girl that I was here with. At least I think she was a girl. read more

This is a pretty old-school diner that is very well-known in the ATL area. The food is pretty decent. I dropped in for a late lunch yesterday and had to have the Salmon Croquettes. I wish they had grits on the menu, because they would've been an excellent complement to the deliciousness of the croquettes. Everything was served hot and was delicious. That cornbread muffin was so good! The mac and cheese was rich. I can't tell you which three cheeses they use but I definitely tasted cheddar and pepper jack, because it has someone of a spicy flavor. The black-eye peas would've been better served in a bowl. I didn't get much of the gravy that they naturally make when stewed correctly. I finished with pecan pie and had the option of have it warmed with a scoop of ice cream. I held off on the ice cream but the pie was delicious. They waitresses provided good service, but they are so, so busy that they just have to get you taken care of and move on. They be moving . . . LOL! It's good for a solo lunch or a drop in with friends. They feed you and get you in and out. read more

We had takeout from here for a work lunch a few weeks ago and I'll say it was certainly better than ok! I've been back twice since and haven't been disappointed in the least. This cafe us comfort food at its best. For my first visit I had the pot pie and mac and cheese which were both superb my co workers had a variety of food and all loved it too. On my second trip I had an omelet and my friend had the chicken fried steak ... no complaints from either of us. The third trip was meatloaf for me and a burger daughter which was two meals for each of us. The only downside I've encountered here is the lack of kids meals but I'll still go back because the food is that good. read more

I've lived in Atlanta for 20 years and have never stopped in OK Cafe. What an amazing gem this place is! I have TOTALLY been missing out on this Atlanta staple establishment. Pancakes are literally the size of your head. Coffee is perfect diner coffee. I'll take this over burnt starbuck coffee any day of the week. If you sit at the counter, you can watch the chefs work as a well tuned symphony. You can get your people watch fix and tell who are the regulars. This is a foodie's dream! What a great representation of To Kill a Mockingbird. The restaurant has a huge tree with tables underneath where you can enjoy your meal and check out the decor. The servers are great! Ok Cafe is one of my favorite go to spots for consistently good food. I had the blackened grouper with mac n cheese and cabbage. My son had the broiled salmon with mashed potatoes and broccoli. Both entrees tasted amazing. The only reason I'm giving them 4 stars is for the strawberry shortcake. The cake tasted as if was dried out and stale. Will That Be Meatloaf With A Side of Covid? Tonight two of us ate at the very crowded OK Cafe - first time in awhile. I was troubled to see that the manager, hostess, several servers and the guy who dishes up the food and dispatches it to the servers were all unmasked. Our waitstaff was, but I felt like I had dropped in on a super spreader event. I inquired about the mask policy and was told it was strictly voluntary. This place is such a cool, retro restaurant. The servers wear old school uniforms which makes the experience authentic. Of all the things they offer, which is a lot, my faves are the PB&J and the grouper sandwich. The turkey sandwich is delicious on toast. If you've never been here, you MUST try it. Better than OK I say. I'd spied OK Cafe on the Atlanta magazine list of best burgers and wanted to try their fare. The burgers were quite satisfactory but not worth dying for or anything. I got a blue cheese burger ($12.99) that was cooked to my preference and came with fried pickles. Fries were hot and crunchy but you could get coleslaw instead. The pimento cheese burger sounded tasty too, maybe next time. The desserts were actually stood out more than the burgers. My dinner buddy got the chocolate thick milk shake ($5.99), and I decided on the carrot cake ($5.50). Carrot cake can be a little iffy for me since so many places often get it wrong, but OK Cafe gets my stamp of approval. The menu says baked good are "Fresh Daily from our Bakery." The four (!) layer cake is moist and slightly oily, dotted with pecan bits, but with a tight crumb and fantastic cream cheese frosting. You can taste the tang which is balanced out by the right amount of sweetness, and they don't skimp on the amount of frosting either. Regarding the milkshake, you get about 2 milkshakes in 1 since such a large volume comes out. Some flavors include chocolate, vanilla, strawberry, Oreo, peanut butter, and coffee. All happy grins here. There's an assembly of staff caricatures in the lobby, of folks who have been working more than 10 years at OK Cafe. Wow. Our waitress, Teresa, was really great, nice and knew her stuff, and the host was professional too. This 30 year old diner is worth a stop. Check out the custom booth dividers and lamps incorporating the OK logo. I give extra points for the nod to To Kill a Mockingbird and the autograph from Harper Lee. Parking was easy in the shopping center parking lot. read more

But I guess when you call your restaurant the OK Cafe, you're not really aiming that high to begin with. I have eaten at OK Cafe before but have never been seated in this part of the restaurant before. Where we were seated allowed us to see the old Georgia state flag (1956-2001 version). I researched why OK cafe chose to display this flag. An article quoting the owner says that it is her right to display the flag. That it "flew over the state capital during one of the most progressive periods in state history". I don't plan to spend my money at OK cafe any longer and urge you to do the same. Her right, absolutely. My right not to spend my money there, absolutely. And it sounds like she is perfectly ok with that. I do take exception to the owner stating that the confederate flag flew over Georgia during one of the most progressive times in the states history. Giving African Americans the right to vote is not progressive it's a basic right they should have had to begin with. No longer hanging people from trees is not progressive. You don't get credit for no longer doing things that are blatantly wrong to begin with. If the owner wants to admit she displays the confederate flag because she is racist I can respect that. But to claim the flag, only adopted in 1956 as a protest to Brown v The Board of Education and other civil rights efforts, is a "source of pride" that flew over the state capital during one of the states most progressive periods is on its face, laughable. Just admit the real reason you display the flag. A flag that Georgians chose to move away from because it's racially divisive. read more
