First time coming here, I got a chicken teriyaki bowl and some california rolls. Delicious, I loved it 100% and was able to take leftovers to go. Second time coming here, I got a special. Chashu pork bowl - "Juicy pork simmered and caramelized in our signature teriyaki sauce resulting in familiar yet delicious twist on something completely new!" So tender and flavorful!! Definitely getting again! The interior is very cute and quaint; there are numerous signs advertising desserts and side dishes (served here of course) on the wall. These things aren't on the main menu, however, so keep an eye out. Location is in a somewhat skiddish area, but I still love it. :) read more

Just picked up a catering order and food was fine but when I asked for chili oil and spoons the lady looked at me like I was asking for too much. I just spend over $100 for the order and she gave me two spoons and two small little chili oil containers. I looked at her to see if she was serious and she was. One star for hiring someone that can't do simple math. If I order a plate I would get one spoon and one chili oil. Imagine $100 catering oil and do the math. read more

Been going here for about 7 years now. I either get the Big Boy combo #5 or a daily special on Tuesdays. Both are tummy stuffers and about 7$. The chili sauce goes great with the teriyaki if you like a little heat. I ask for sauce on the side because sometimes they just drench it and the taste gets a bit tiring. Been coming here for awhile now. They are redesigning the place and it looks awesome already! I always get the small or regular chicken bowl with brown rice. It is so delicious. Sometimes it gets busy during the peak lunch and dinner hours since there's only one cashier. And you have to wait a bit to get your food but I see that as a plus. Since I moved from the Westside of LA, I've been experiencing a major sense of loss when it comes to cuisine. I haven't found my replacement for New Japan, which, for those who don't know, is a fast food teriyaki beef/chicken plate restaurant. Then I stumbled upon Okazya, and thought the search might be over. New Japan is at the corner of Sawtelle and Santa Monica Blvd in a little strip mall anchored by a 7-11 (where one can usually find vagrants in front of soliciting for pocket change). Okazya is in a little strip mall just off the corner of Brookhurst and Commonwealth Ave, which is anchored by a liquor store (where we found vagrants in front of soliciting for pocket change!). I walked in and the place was empty. Not a good sign. New Japan was usually always busy. The menu seemed to have mostly the same faire: chicken or beef teriyaki plates with rice and salad. Okazya also offered chow mein noodles, which New Japan does not. They also offer more variety, such as curry. However, New Japan still won out on taste. At the risk of sounding cliche, the only way I can sum up Okazya is "meh." The price was about standard, 1 dish costs about $7. Sweet Jesus, this place has some amazing beef teriyaki. And I never knew. Shame on me. I got a mild spicy beef plate. Wasn't the hugest fan of the chow mein and salad (I don't like ranch), but the beef here is amazing! I practically orgasmed in my mouth. I was really surprised and impressed. The beef teriyaki is tender, succulent, and very flavorful. My mouth is watering just thinking about it. The sauce is somewhat heavy and sweet, but you can just ask for a little sauce or sauce on the side. My recommendation is just to get a small (or large) spicy beef teriyaki bowl only. My favorite tofu veggie bowl. The rice finds a perfect balance between sticky and fluffy. The carrots, broccoli, and cauliflower are all steamed to perfection despite their slightly different cooking times. The tofu silkily caresses your tongue while still being firm enough to not fall apart when you grab it with chop sticks. All this is coated in a sweet thick glaze that is the epitome of what teriyaki sauce was meant to be. read more

This place is VERY good. I'm a huge teriyaki place (and there are plenty of us, as I've seen) and this is definitely one of the best around. I've been going here for years and my mother has been going for even longer and we still come back when we can. By-and-large, however, the best thing they have (in my amazing opinion), is their udon soup. They don't litter it with a lot of the tastes other places do from the start. You can add whatever you need to it and it's just plain ole' good. As I said above, the teriyaki anything is good. I've had it all and, subjectively speaking, Okazya's "all" is pretty good. The prices are about on par with other places and become a relatively good deal when you get combos. I can't vouch for lunch hours any more as I don't work in the area, but when I used to go lunch was always the busiest time so plan accordingly. read more

It has been quite a while since I've been back here, and I really like what they have done with their decor. It feels much cleaner and spacious than it used to. One of the things Okazya does really well is chicken. It is tender and not dry like some other places. Their teriyaki sauce is also really good, but for some like me could be overbearing in sugar and salt, so maybe ask for sauce on the side if you're like me. The beef is also pretty good. The main downside in my opinion would be how long it takes for them to get the food out. Sometimes the food is worth the wait though, you decide for yourself. Like so many other reviewers said, "I really wanted to like this place." It's a bit out of the way for me, but my boyfriend and I made the drive because I saw that they have a tofu bowl which piqued my interest. When we called in our order, the guy on the phone didn't seem all too familiar with the menu. We had to explain what a "combo #7" was. I ordered the tofu bowl, but instead of rice, asked to substitute extra veggies. He said he didn't think that they were allowed to do that, but that they could do it "without rice." Umm...okay? We would've gladly paid extra to substitute additional veggies in, but whatever. This place is a bit dive-y, located in a tiny plaza next to Golden Ox burgers. When my boyfriend when in to grab the order, the guy told him, "We added extra veggies to your tofu bowl because the boss isn't here. She probably wouldn't have let us do that." So I'm thinking, "Score!" Until I get home and open up my food container. The portions were so small, it was obvious they had not added any extra vegetables whatsoever. I realize the rice is the "filler" part of the meal, and I shouldn't expect to get stuffed, but c'mon...I should at least feel like I ate SOMETHING after I'm done with my meal. Because there was no rice, the veggies and tofu were DROWNING in sauce (which was too sweet for my tastes, anyway). Let's just say I learned my lesson about asking for substitutions at a place that doesn't seem willing to cater to their customer's wants/needs. The tofu meal I got (with a small salad and a drink) was hardly worth the $6.20 I paid for it. My boyfriend got the teriyaki chicken and curry chicken combo, and although he was extremely, gut-bustingly full afterwards, he wasn't exactly raving about the meal. He said the chicken teriyaki was okay, but the curry chicken was fairly bland. I agree with other Yelpers that this place seems like the type of eats you would run across in a mall food court. Stopped in with my honey after a Doctor's appointment and even though we waited a bit for our food when it came it was super hot and delicious. The teriyaki does cover everything meat and rice but it was so yummy. I loved how my beef looked like it had actually spent some time cooking in its sauce rather than some jar generic being poured over it the last minute. We both got small bowls which were really tiny so now that I know I love it I'll have to upgrade myself to a big boy meal and make it spicy! I haven't been here in years. Finally stopped by and it's great that things haven't changed. The staff remembered me and even remembered how I like my meal. I get a variety of things here and I am blown away why I didn't see a review on the noodle soup. Thick noodles with beef ...man that is just the thing when it's cold, especially because they keep that soup HOT! I will be back when it gets chilly. About the sauce being sweet. YES it is! My wife loves stuff like that and I'm okay with it, but I just ask for light on the sauce. They will work with you on how you like it. If you like stuff hot ask for it spicy and enjoy! I also recommend you branch out. Try the curry or miso soup, all are tasty, even if not up to a fine dinning experience, but then again this is a place to pick up a good quick meal that sits much better than another burger. read more

Oh Yelper's, you have deceived me of what is good in this world. When I spotted an average of 4 stars on this place, I was excited. Yet all I ended up with was a sad teriyaki bowl and bad sushi. I suppose that is what you get for what you pay for. Only plus is having Orange Bang. The chicken was bite sized with sad limp veggies that seemed to have been in the steamer too long. Rice was nothing incredible and the teryaki sauce was forgettable. I can get the sauce out of a bottle. I even waited a bit after they opened just to see if I could get a good quality chicken bowl and it was nothing but disappointing. Probably should hit up Mos2 in Anaheim, or even Waba Grill and Flame Broiler. At least you know that the chicken is not cubed, teriyaki is flavorful and no limp veggies! read more

Sometimes, you just want a damn chicken bowl-- and this place delivers!! Been coming here for ten years and, for the price, you get a good deal. It won't "wow" you, but it's very consistent and you'll be full for less than $10 which, in my opinion, is just about all you can ask for these days.. I can't even begin to count how many trips I made here while growing up. I remember trips here on the weekends, after swim practices, and sneaking out out 4th period early in high school with friends. All of their customers are local regulars and even though it was been a while since I've moved away from Fullerton some of the workers still remember me when I visit. It has a slight kick to it, but if you don't like spicy you can get a regular chicken bowl and it is just as good They also have combos that include California rolls, tempura, and other yummy treats. My brother in law served teriyaki chicken with veggies at a recent family night and the food was so delicious I thought it was homemade. I complimented him but he said he catered it from Okazya Kitchen. I thought it was so good that I kept the name in the back of my head for future parties. For my son's family birthday party we catered 4 trays of beef and chicken teriyaki rice with veggies plus one veggie bowl for my vegan cousin. The guests loved the food and my vegan cousin said the veggie bowl was amazing. There were no leftovers. Okazya kitchen is a great place if you're craving a homemade Japanese rice bowl. It's great bang for your buck. It's better than flame broiler, waba grill and yoshinoya. The only thing it's lacking is gyudon, which is thinly sliced beef simmered with onions. To the reviewers that complained about the portions, I say what did you expect from a $6 rice bowl? It's not a Michelin Star restaurant with a classically trained chef (it might a a classically trained chef for all I know.) Great quality for the low price. read more

Bomb.com. I always get the regular chicken bowl, plus a free drink (students get a free drink w a school ID). The first refill is free (plus!) The chicken bowl is delicious. It's js the perfect amount (I always leave full & satisfied), the chicken is soft and delicious, the teriyaki sauce is delicious, and the chicken & rice ratio is just the right amount. Their beef bowl isn't bad as well (you can get half chicken half beef if you order a large). They have this chili powder thing that i always put in my bowl. DELICIOUS. I also add the hot sauce as times too. It's pretty small but I've never had trouble finding a table. The workers there are very friendly! I don't even remember when I first started coming here. It has been so long... Anyways, Okaz has been definitely one of my favorite places to go during high school. The price for what you get is insane!! I always got the half and half (chicken and beef) bowl and that was more than enough to fill me up! Other than that, I remember that we would get free drinks as long as we showed our student ID. During my school years, that was one of the best things ever! The only reason why I took down a star was because of the prices going up. He has brought me here a few times now and now I've fallen for the home like feel and comfort food of the Okazya Teriyaki chicken and beef over rice.
