I've been eating here since 1980. This is comfort food. Very little has changed since. Their beef isn't as good as it used to be. But I prefer chicken anyway. The JFC (Japanese fried chicken) is terrific. It's all dark meat but I don't care. It is made fresh and it tastes amazing. I love their gyozu. When I buy a regular chicken bowl I can only eat half of it. Portion sizes are great. Most of the people that eat here are Hispanic. So there's not a lot of call for some condiments you may be used to at your other places. This isn't a "Japanese restaurant." It's a teriyaki bowl place. It says so, or it used to, on the front of the building. You get a free drink if you bring in your student ID. Here's the deal. Their margin is pretty close to the bone. So, if you buy less than $10 you get charged for using your card. Bring cash or buy more. Deal with it. Flame Broiler is a national company with a lot more transactions. They pay less because of volume. AND they nickel and dime you too. No extra sauce without being charged. Ask for no rice and you get charged much more and you get a bowl of cabbage. This is not Yoshinoya. It is a hole in the wall, local's place. We love its character, its consistency, the staff and the food. Be kind to our grandmother. read more

As in the order of things, they give you a lot of rice. The price here is a bit steep comparatively to Flame Broiler and other similar places but look at where its at. Not a lot of foot traffic or much traffic through these parts. I spotted it on my way home a couple times but teriyaki is not my thing. Too sweet. This place is A-Ok. Food comes in a good quantity compared to the price and the teriyaki is not too sweet. They have a variety of different Japanese-esque foods here and their CA rolls don't have mayo!!! Thats a plus~ But way too much rice for that itty bitty filling and the price. At least the rice was flavored. I have come in here twice and they have discounts for students so do ask! But I wouldn't order the Salmon dinner. Very tiny piece piece of Salmon over a bed of white rice. I should ask if they have an alternative to white rice next time I go in. If I do... this japanese mom-n-pop store has been serving the best chicken teriyaki (plus other jpn food like curry, noodles, rolls, etc) for as long as i can remember... more like as long as i lived in fullerton. that's at least 15 years and once you try their chicken teriyaki, you will know why. there is no other place that comes close to their freshness & deliciousness. their bowls and combos range around $6 to $8 depending on the size. the store is relatively small, so you can be violating the building code if you have a big party, but hey they cater, too :) if you are in mood for some jpn food, you gotta try this place! * they tend to be very generous with their teriyaki sauce so i suggest asking for sauce on the side. read more

Same ladies working behind the counter for years now. College friends took me here in the mid-90's. Yum. Now we take my kids. I normally don't like glazed terriyaki sauce, but this place is my exception. The cops eat here too, so that's a plus. The bums and cholos outside are a trip to observe through the window. read more

Guess this place is decent but I shared a plate of chicken, beef teriyaki with fried chicken combo but I didn't like that everything with drenched with sauce! I'll have to ask for no sauce or just in the side. My daughter loved her beef teriyaki bowl with side of gyoza. The gyoza was good but again didn't like so much sauce. This isn't my kind of place unless I try their healthy meals with tofu next trip. But all their plates are pretty expensive. About $6 for small and additional 1.50$ for regular size! Don't get too excited from all the fancy reviews. If you expect too much, you are sure to be disappointed. Just keep in mind you are eating at a "BOWL" type / japanese fast food establishment. For what it is, it is great! I've been going to Okazuya on & off for the past 20 years and I've never been disappointed. FOOD: Not what I was expecting after reading the many four star yelp reviews. The teri chicken bowl was only okay. I found it over sauced and salty. The large serving can feed two people (well, with my appetite) or a large, hearty appetite filled person. The price was not bad but what you don't get enough of is rice. They spread the layer of rice beneath the bed of chicken so thin that you will find yourself scraping the bottom of the box trying to get a good ratio of rice to chicken by the spoonful only to get an uneven portion. Also, we ordered 3 teri chicken bowls only to be told that they did not have enough chicken and asked if we could make one of them beef. We didn't have a problem but at 7:30pm on a Friday and being known for your chicken bowls, you should be better stocked with plenty of your most popular menu item. The poor customers behind us wanted chicken too, but sadly had no choice but beef. WAIT TIME: Another complaint I have is the time it took to get our dinner. For a fast food type (or even sit down type) of eatery, one should NOT have to wait almost 30 minutes for their meal. There was only one young, hard working chef prepping and making all the orders so I felt bad for him. The lady who took orders occasionally would go back there to try to help, but how could she with a line forming? They should look into hiring one more person to help. I know times are tough and being a small mom and pop restaurant they probably want to profit as much as possible amongst themselves but in the end it will only hurt their business because I will not be a returning patron. AMBIANCE: there really isn't any. Very old and drabby. Dirty vent grilles, stained ceiling tiles and ugly fluorescent light fixtures along with the bright, slimey lime green walls definitely will make you want to take your order to go! read more

Okazya Kitchen has been a favorite in Fullerton for many years. When they first opened, Hughes Aircraft Company was the biggest employer in Orange County. "Okazya" was only a few blocks away from the main plant and it was always great to stop by here for lunch on Days or Swing shifts. Okazya is a small mom and pop shop on the corner of commonwealth. I had the teriyaki chicken / teriyaki beef plate which was delicious!! Came with rice, salad and some chow mein. Okazya is way better than your average Yoshinoya. Although I love Flamebroiler, this place is better than FB but more expensive as well. You also have a variety of options to satisfy most of your Japanese food cravings. This is a small restaurant so you may want to take your food to go, as what I usually do. Okazya has the best Teriyaki in the city. I'm friends with the owner's son. I've been coming to this place for over 12 years. I have seen the ups and downs of this place. 1. Once you walk in you will see only a few tables. It's small but orders come out quick and people eat quick. 2. The prices got pretty high but hey to me its quite worth it. They have student discounts for people who go to Sunny Hills(not sure about now since i graduated there). 3. The portions of the meal are made to fill you up. Their salad dressing is very flavorful. Their chicken is top notch. So is the beef. I always order Spicy Chicken Teriyaki. It's the best thing their :) 4. Their rolls are huge but are BLAH. But it is a Teriyaki place so its quite understandable. 5. Oh and one of the Cashier Looks like Jackie Chan. I have been coming to Okazya Kitchen for years and years. It is a small mom and pop shop teriyaki place. While the flavors have been adapted (very minor) to the American palate, it seems like they've stuck to their roots for the most part with their cooking. They serve a really good "bento" that they've named as their "daily special." In English, bento means "boxed meal." It usually consists of teriyaki chicken with rice, yakisoba (japanese fried noodle with vegetables) and 2 other small dishes that rotate depending on the day you come in. These will range from gyoza (dumplings), chicken katsu (fried cutlet), vegetable+beef soup, vegetable egg roll and etc. All this food is $6.99. The only thing that is sub-par is the California roll, but who cares? It's not a place to get sushi. In much the same way that In-n-Out makes good burgers, Okazya makes good chicken teriyaki bowls along with a few other really tasty items. Two things I've noticed over the years is consistency and good service. Time and time again it has tasted the same, and I believe it's the familiarity with the flavor, smell, portion size, and appearance in the food that will keep me coming back. Their service is always good and they've never messed up my order. Lastly, it's a good place to read the paper or a magazine because they usually have a descent spread. Pro-tip: I don't prefer my food that saucy, so you may want to request it on the side. Also, try the shichimi, which is a Japanese spicy seasoning (the orange powder stuff) if you want to add a little kick to your food. read more

My girlfriend and I tried this place for the first time as recommended by her parents. She got the teriyaki chicken bowl, which came with teriyaki chicken, rice, four dumplings, and a drink. I got the chicken katsu and rice. Both of our dishes were DELICIOUS!! The chicken katsu was crispy on the outside. The dumplings were seasoned well and my girlfriend devoured her teriyaki chicken.
