I've been coming here for about two decades. I have to say that they've had their good days and bad. However, they're more consistently good. I've tried most of the items on the menu, and it was nice how they have student discounts. I have to agree with some of the reviews about the meat. It is often more on the salty side. I've also heard people complain about the teriyaki being too sweet. There's always the bbq option where they don't put sauce all over it. There's not much I can really say about this place besides try it if you haven't. It's not in the best location, but the food is great for the price and amount you get. It can get crowded during peak hours. They do take phone orders which makes things much easier. read more

My dad has been coming here before I was born. So, I have grown up coming here. I always get the exact same thing: udon noodles. It has the most flavorful, delicious broth! It's so comforting! I have tried udon noodles at many other places and NOTHING compares. My family enjoys everything on the menu, so you can't go wrong with anything here. It is weird to say but I grew up here... (Kaz used to work there too). My mom loves their chowmein so much she had them cater my 3rd birthday with it. And now 27 years later I still visit at least once a month even though I'm not in the area anymore. *The food is fresh, delicious, hot and made to order. *It is affordably priced for the amount of food you get. *And the staff is always nice and patient (my mom takes forever to order). My favorites: -2 item combo with chicken teriyaki & tempura -Mini teriyaki chicken bowl and salad. -California roll -Orange Bang Mm... they have the crunchiest [addictive] tempura around. It's a little on the greasy side but it's still absolutely magical. Just a note but.. notice the sign outside says Okazya. But the wooden sign hanging inside says OkazUya. My parents used to tell us kids that the store would hang food on the back for the train to pickup as it went by.. I still wonder if that was a joke. It is a mom-and-pop type restaurant that has been around for more than 20 years and has not changed its original recipe. The price over the last decade has increasingly gone up, however something about their teriyaki sauce is absolutely addicting. It pains me to write this review. I grew up in Fullerton and have been coming here for 30 years and loving it! Okazya is an institution in Fullerton- and fans are never satisfied with Teri-bowls anywhere else after becoming hooked on this place. I still drive out of my way to treat myself to some Okazya nostalgia every month or 2. Sadly it has gone downhill...big time. Not sure if it's different employees, cooks, food supplier, but whatever it is, it's a travesty. The last beef bowl I got a couple months ago was full of gristle and fat so bad that I had to spit out chucks with every bite. This is so abnormal from what I know and love, I dismissed it as a one-time fluke. I ordered an extra large beef bowl again last week, and it was the same sad thing... every single bite had inedible bits of fat and gristle, completely ruining the plate. I suppose I shouldn't complain- 30 years of consistent, excellent food and service is quite a special thing! Alas, I fear that the OG Okazya of my youth is no more. End of an era. :( read more

I went to this place for the first time the other night. It was great! However when I went in to place an order to go I waited an upward of 20 minutes just for a beef and rice big boy meal. I understand the quality of fresh food made when ordered but I've been to many similar establishments and have not had this issue. The chicken was fatty, chewy, and undercooked, and the egg roll just wasn't very good at all. I grew up in Cerritos but i moved to Fullerton at 19 and for the most part hung out with fullerton kids for much longer before that. As far as i know cerritos never had a well known "go to" teriyaki place that only cerritos natives raved about. So my comparison goes to every other teriyaki joint in every other city that i have tasted. Okazya IS good. But it is also just teriyaki sauce plus your basic beef chicken whatever protein option etcetc.. how can one possibly fuck that up?! Kind of like sandwich shops or sushi joints. You cant really fuck up something so basic.. you can make it fall back IN COMPARISON to other related establishments but when rating food that is prepared in its simplest form with basic ingredients.. no place is ever disgusting. Maybe not up to par and lacking quality... but never disgusting. That being said. Okazya is good and affordable compared to franchised joints but nothing too special as well. 3 stars because at the end of the day they all taste the same to me.. but i hear okazya is cheaper than your average franchised joint plus you can really taste or feel the home made mom and pop (not mass produced) feel of the place. read more

The dumplings (Gyoza) tasted ok. I think they are made in house and doesn't have the authentic Japanese flavor and that's what kept me from giving it 5 stars. Atmosphere is not very Japaneae except for a few picture frames of Mount Fuji and downtown Tokyo. I ordered the pork cutlet curry and white rice. It was delicious, the pork very tender and the curry was very rich with fresh vegetables. I noticed a cart full of condiments neatly organized which shows attention to detail. It was also clean and the staff very friendly. I gave them 4 stars because I wish they had more traditional Japanese dishes like Okonomiyaki, Takoyaki or Ramen. Also it took a while for my order to be ready and that is not so much a negative so I will update my review if service is faster next time. read more

this place was a big disappointment .. came here coz of all the reviews on a monday night at 7 pm .. place was empty had the chicken/beef teriyaki bowl .. $6.53 (w/ discounts applied) the chicken was overly sweet .. and the beef .. well .. it wasn't beef .. didn't look like it or taste like it .. it was just .. shredded .. somethin ..and overly salty and the worst of all .. all the rice .. yes i mean ALL the rice .. was soaked .. not just marinated .. but soaked .. in teriyaki sauce .. which was really gross .. seriously my food just look like it was scooped up from someone's leftover plate .. i didn't even finish half of it ..just couldn't eat it anymore .. by far the worst teriyaki i've ever had really wanted to like this place .. but dont' think i'll come again read more

One of the best teriyaki joints in the area. A great place for college or high school students because she has a deal. I think it's called a "Bigboy Combo" or something like that and its $5 bucks for a bowl w/ a drink. A nice mom and pop place and the cashier/owner is very friendly. I like the chicken here the best but I always go for the half and half just to have a little variety. I don't know if its the sauce or the quality of the meat or the rice or the fact that it's owned by a japanese lady but something about the teriyaki bowls here makes it different from other cheap teriyaki places (ie. yoshinoya). I have been coming to O Kaz Ya Kitchen for over 25 years!!!! In all that time, the quality and taste of their food has never changed... It has always been incredible. Regardless of where I have lived, I have made my way back to O Kaz Ya time and again for a lunch of teryaki bowl and deep fried chicken. Places like this shouldn't really have to exist anymore and I don't mean by food or buy anything else I mean by sure service the little let you know woman came to help me was going over the menu and suddenly because it was a few minutes before their special and it she walked over change the sign and asked me if I want to same special for a dollar more yet the special started at 3 o'clock and it was still at least several minutes before 3 PM not that I actually would've gotten the combo anyways but the sheer fact that she walked over and change the sign just so that it would reflected that they would be charging a dollar more I thought was just very not cool because considering I probably would've spent money they're just fine whatever and not even have really thought about the combo until she actually tried to charge me a dollar more which is just silly considering that I'm always looking for places to eat it looks like it's been there for a long time and the drive customers away for a dollar just seems absolutely silly to me read more
