One of my favorite deep dish pizza places. Thankfully they're all different so I don't feel a need to lower my star rating per competition. Old Chicago Deep dish is the ONLY way to go here. Sure all of there pizzas are great but the deep dish - come on. No questions asked. Just order the darn thing, pick your choice of two *free* toppings and wait your approximate wait time of 30mins while eating a starter salad, and chatting over drinks. Sound like a deal? It sure is! Grab a large pizza 'cause you know you'll want more when you get home. Pop it in the oven for a few seconds and it's like you never left the restaurant. read more

My wife would be pretty upset that I found a good Chicago deep dish pizza place while on a business trip. I'm no pizza connoisseur, but I know this is by far the best Chicago-style pizza I've ever had (but I've never had it in Chicago, go figure). The small pizza is filling enough for 2 hungry grown men. In my prime (20's), I may have been able to finish one of them up by myself, but those days are long gone (unless I want to die early of heart failure). The crust is thick yet crispy, with tons of toppings and cheese loaded inside. I didn't think I'd eat the entire crust (never been a big fan of pizza crusts in general), but it was so tasty that I did. The service was very good and attentive, and there was no wait since it was a week night. There was a bit of a wait for the pizza, but you have to expect it since they're baked to order, not sitting beneath a heat lamp. Overall, I'm very impressed with this establishment. We were visiting Petaluma, and I remembered reading about Old Chicago Pizza on Yelp. We're always on the lookout for delicious pizza. So, the good: This place has a lovely atmosphere and the staff was very friendly. Another bonus were the beers and cider. Yum. I had never tried Ace cider before, and it went really well with my pizza. It was very crisp and fruity and they served it in a chilled mug. The bad: The first thing I noticed was that the pizza didn't have the flakey, biscuit-like crust that deep-dish pizza usually features. I love that flakey crust. This pizza tasted like a regular pizza only with a thicker crust that was slightly undercooked. It was smothered in way too much cheese. They used sauce in their pizza and not the usual chopped up fresh tomatoes with herbs found in other deep-dish pizza that is so delicious. The sauce ran all over, blending with the cheese and looked kind of gross after the pizza was sliced. My BF (who is from Chicago) referred to the pizza as an "abomination." All in all, I thought the pizza was good. But agree it's not deep-dish pizza. For that, we've found far better at Zachary's and Patxi's. read more

What a dream come true! Come here to enjoy some of the best pizza you've ever had... I came with some of my buddies...We decided to try a totally random place for lunch...and Old Chicago Pizza was our nominee...We waited for the pizza to come and talked for awhile...We each ended up ordering a small pizza...greatly underestimating how enormous and filling a small pizza actually would be! I'm pretty sure we each fell in love that day with Chicago Style pizza....This is a fun place for groups or if you're looking for an interesting meal. I dont recommend this place if you're looking for something quick though...After all, they make the pizzas from scratch so you'll naturally be waiting for about 20 minutes, regardless of how crowded it is..But...Its completely worth the wait :) read more

Wow... I have had a lot of pizza in my life and I mean a lot. This was by far the worst pizza i have had at this point. I have eaten pizza out of vending machines that was better. The pizza weighed in at 3.75lb and was 12" across. It was about half cheese, 3/8th bad dough, and 1/8th questionable olive totaling 100% nasty. I choked down about half a slice and I feel queasy now from the copious amounts of cheese I can only guess. With our order we got two salads each $7.50 with lettuce that looked like it was cut up with scissors, four olives (counted them), some red onion, and snotty tomato. The whole meal (Pizza, Garlic Bread, two salads, and a soda was $46.00 PLUS they charge to deliver. Who even does that anymore!?) I think next time if I want to eat bad pizza I will just buy Little Caesars $6 hot mess. I will save $44 plus a tip for the driver. read more

Chicago style pizza is an American invention. it is the brain child of Chicago Italian Americans celebrating the abundance of America. In this age of oneupmanship, calorie counting and carbophobia, this pizza is hated by Northern Italians, New Yorkers and Californians alike as adherents are becoming fewer and fewer. I settled in Chicago for 8 years after college where I frequented the glory days of Pizzeria Uno and Due on the near north side where I lived. I learned to love this pizza. Old Chicago Pizza in Petaluma is well made and tastes almost the same as the original in Chicago 35 years ago. I find it a little dry (compared to the original) so I add a little olive oil from the salad oil cruets. [I recently revisited my old haunts in Chicago, and I am sad to say that the quality of the pizza there has not been maintained.] read more

I plain just felt sick after eating this pizza. Despite really wanting to love it, with a pound of cheese and a pound of dough on a small pizza - AND only eating one slice I finally realized this place's pizza is not for me. I know my friends and even family say this was the only good choice for pizza in Petaluma way back in the day, it's just not for me and hey, it's not the only pizza place in Petaluma anymore. There are like 3 all within a minute or two walking distance of each other. I love my NY or CA style pizza every day of the week. The long waits on Friday and Saturday nights (sometimes be prepared to wait up to an hour or more when busy) are slightly inexcusable because they don't take reservations for less than 7 ... ever. I guess you could make a reservation for 7 (or more) then call back and scale it down at the last minute to ensure a table, but that is technically mean and cheating. The bar area is available for sit down eating or just to order a drink while you wait for your table. You can even order a drink and sit in their "waiting area" on the other side of the bar, but you can't go through those double doors due to the beer license. They don't offer pasta or any other Italian dishes. Though they do have salads. Well, nothing like the fancy ones Sonoma County in general has but they do have those with pizza toppings like adding salami or chicken, or with cheese, olives, tomatoes, etc. If you order a side of dressing, know it's homemade ... but also comes at a high price. It's $1.00/ounce. Yes, that little cup you get it in is about one ounce. Maybe one and a half. I saw one person order 8 of those. At that point I'd just make my own or stop by the store and get a fancy one at 8 bucks for a whole pound. It's not to say die hard deep dish style lovers won't like the food here, it's just not my style. I gave it not one, but two tries. And felt really sick after eating the pizza both times. I was always a big fan of the deep dish pies here. We made a point to stop in for dinner whenever we would make the journey up to P-town. However my pizza world was turned on its ear when I was introduced to the magical mistress that is the Double Crust Pizza at Old Chicago. This is a regular deep dish pizza with an extra crust stacked on top and then more cheese and more toppings. The pizza was so massive that light could barely escape its gravitational pull. It is in your best interest to take the usual number of slices you eat when going out to pizza and divide it be three and maybe if you're a champ you might be able to attain that number with this behemoth of a pizza. I've been to Old Chicago a couple of times now, and I enjoy their deep dish pizza very much so! I'll talk about the most recent experience here (1/4/17) with two lovely friends. The wait wasn't bad at all, considering it was a Wednesday night around 6:30pm- we waited less than 25 mins. We decided to order a large deep dish pizza with the following: Artichoke hearts, Pepperoni, Sausage and Onions. In an attempt to be healthy, we also ordered an Italian salad to share (but who needs green stuff anyways!). As per deep dish pizza, it took about 30 minutes. What's really nice about Old Chicago is that they stuff cheese in their crust. I mean, who doesn't want even MORE cheese in their life! I will say that after having Zachary's in December, I prefer Zachary's because they fill up to the top of the crust with sauce and fillings and cheese. This particular deep dish pizza tonight was half-filled. It's all about preference though! The service was standard, and the workers are generally nice. Bathrooms are outside of the restaurant, with the keys hung on the coat rack by the entrance of the restaurant. read more

This is the best Pizza I have ever had. We have been going there for years!!! A regular cheese pizza weighs in at 4lbs!!! In fact it is so good that an ex-boyfriend of mine use to ask me to buy him one.. freeze it, and then FedEx it to him overnight so he could have it the next day at work in LA. The crust is yummy... the cheese is thick and plenty, the sauce has a great flavor of tomatoes and herbs, and I recommend less than more toppings because it just becomes way to hard to manage. They have two locations now one on the East side and one on the West side of Petaluma. I think the one of the East side is take out only... I might be wrong. I like the one of the West Side better because it is in a nice old building in downtown Petaluma and just a couple of doors down from McNears which is a fun bar to hang out in. read more

old chicago pizza is located in an old, run-down building, but the atmosphere was warm and friendly. the nieces and i shared a large deep dish pizza with pepperoni and sausage which took about half an hour or more to bake and came extra, extra gooey. i cant even remember anything about the crust or the meats. just pure cheesy goo. you could say this place puts the goo in good. (you could say it, but i know you won't, but now you'll at least think it!) despite our dinner taking us past closing time, they were lovely enough to bring out desserts with candles for my birthday niece. the chocolate cake thing was a block of fudge, but the cheesecake was pretty delicious. read more

I'm usually a thin crust kind of girl but this place has me anyways. I love their pizza sauce and the certainly don't scrimp on toppings. Remember, if you order garlic as a topping, you will fall asleep directly after eating one slice of pizza. Right there at the table. If you're starting off at Old Chicago before a night on the town, definitely DO NOT order garlic as a topping. you'll cancel all of your plans and go home to bed way early. Anyway, I'm not saying that this place has super high end ingredients, but what they do with what they have is superb. I also really like the Lisa Iskins Salad as a starter (you can split it with 2-3 people if your getting a big pizza) because after eating one of these cheese/meat/deep dish crust pizzas, you'll certainly appreciate some roughage in your digestive track. It's also not hard to believe that it is what used to be the exact location of a brothel. When your headed to the restaurant check out all of the narrow doors in the hallway. They used to be tiny bedrooms. After watching Deadwood you have to wonder how many people were murdered in this building. The Service has always been really friendly (I've been going here for about 15 years) yet really relaxed. Keep in mind that a pizza takes about 45 minutes to bake because the crust is so thick. Actually, it's not that they are relaxed but it seems like they have a policy not to bug you too much. Probably because this is a great place for a date. I almost forgot, Old Chicago is always busy, so try and get there before you want to sit down because chances are, you'll have to wait. (It's worth it. though.) read more

Now, I haven't been to Chicago, however, this place is pretty bomb. There used to be this place in Sausalito on Calidonia Street called Gatsby's, and I absolutely loved it. Same deep dish pizza idea, but I think they put crack in the crust, cause I would wake up from a dead sleep craving it, and I was just a wee child. Sadly Gatsby's is now gone, however we have Old Chicago! It's a good time, but get ready to wait. It's cool though cause it gives you more time to drink which is never bad. Old Chicago Pizza has made it very hard for me to continue my diet, as it constantly haunts my every taste bud. It is so delicious, it should be illegal. Try the double stuffed crust. They bake the mushrooms, pepperoni, olives, whatever you chose to order INTO the crust. That's right. That means when you take a fat bite of crust, not only do you get a mouthful of buttery pizza dough, but also a mushroom or two. It'll take a liiiitttle bit longer, but so worth the wait. The environment of the restaurant is always hoppin, which could be a good or a bad thing. Depending on, A.) Your mood and B.) your hunger status. Lagunitas on tap? Mmmm hmmmm :) Extra Extra plus. Note: There is a middle aged, overweight, dark haired waitress there, who on a bad day will show her devil side. But nothing to keep you from this slice of Heaven. P.S. This is a great hidden little pizza place! The building is old and the pizza place is located on the second floor. You can see the sign from the street but it's a maze of stairs and hallways when you enter the building. We grabbed a table by the window where you could see downtown. We were greeted promptly and ordered an italian salad and a combination pizza. The salad had fresh ingredients and a large portion. We ordered a small pizza and had a hard time finishing it! Funny thing, my first pizza here was over 26 years ago. I was stationed at Coast Guard Training Center Petaluma aka 2 rock. The experience lasted several decades. Over those decades I told everyone I knew about this crazy thing called Deep Dish Chicago Style Pizza. And I longed for the day that I could come back. Ah, exactly as I remembered. Tucked away behind a wall, up a smelly staircase and into a former brothel. And, it was exactly as I remembered. Driving 45 minutes from Vallejo to Petaluma lets you know how much I love this Pizza. And this ain't a cheap date either. But, I am a fiend for food. If I had to take away a star, it would be for closing on Sunday's for Lunch. I have loved Old Chicago since the very first time I ate there, probably close to 5 years ago. Although we don't go there very often, it holds a special place in my heart - hands down my favorite pizza joint of all time. I wanted to go somewhere for my "carb load" meal the night before a 12k - what better place then here for an excuse to load up on tons of carbs?! First, the location. It's a funky space in the historical lanmart building in downtown petaluma - surrounded by brick walls and inside a building that was once a local saloon/brothel, there's a cool vibe to the place. (Take a stroll to the bathrooms down the hall and let your imagination run wild thinking about what used to take place behind those doors!) The service. The servers are pretty good. Don't forget to hold your plate up so they can load a ginormous slice onto it for you - trust me, you'll be glad they did it instead of you! The food. Well, you need to like deep dish and you need to like pizza...it helps if you like beer too because they have a small but eclectic selection of beer on tap. I've eaten at Gino's in Chicago and to me this pizza is better...why, you ask? THE CRUST! Chicago deep dish (in Chicago) tends to have a more cornbread-esque crust whereas here you get sourdough-y, cheesy, delicious crust that ends each slice quite nicely. Also, I've never been able to eat more than 1.5 slices and even that's a stretch - so you always know you will leave here full and extremely satisfied. Oh, and if you go w/a group be prepared to fight over the leftovers! Bottom line - whether you order red sauce, pesto, vegetarian or all meat, this pizza is delicious, consistent, gooey, cheesy, well presented and the perfect way to curb your pizza cravings - for a while! read more

As my minions know all too well, Evil is a big pizza fan. Last week, I was on the road with my entourage. Frankly, Evil was a little anxious. Where could I go for a good slice of pizza? Fortunately, one of my sycophants did their homework and directed our party here. This is a really old school pizza parlor. Evil keeps his pizza simple. I don't need a lot of frou frou stuff, and this place made it like I like it. The pizza was delicious. The only negative is that the crust got a tad soggy at the end. My wife and I really like a salad and the ranch dressing that they make here, so we called it in by phone Saturday night. For reference, I identify as African American When I arrived here to pick up my order I walked to the front counter and waited to be acknowledged. There was a staff member at the register and a server adjacent to him. It was like a full minute with..nothing. They didn't even make eye contact. It was like I wasn't even there? Then two white men walked in and were served immediately. The cashier went through the whole process taking their payment right in front of me! After the white men were taken care of and on their merry way, the cashier says "oh, did I skip you?" I said YES! This is not ok! I won't be ordering from here again because I just won't be treated this way. I suggest that the management here consider having some cultural training for their staff and possibly racially diversifying their FOH staff, otherwise other people of color will be subjected to this hurtful experiences. read more

My husband and I LOVE Old Chicago!! We live in Napa and every two months or so we make a pilgrimage over to Petaluma solely for the purpose of getting Old Chicago because it's that good! And when we go to the beach, we always stop and pick up a pizza to bring home because we can't drive through town and not get Old Chicago. Their thin crust is solid, but the deep dish is where it's at! We always get a medium so we have leftovers to bring home (I can put away the pizza and 2-2.5 slices of their deep dish is my max for one sitting). We also really like their Italian salad. A Full Sail amber ale from the tap is a perfect pairing with your 'za. I am such a fan of this place that I request to go here on Valentine's Day and other special occasions over a fancy restaurant. I will always remember my recent visit to Old Chicago Pizza in Petaluma. Just a very interesting little place. Sort of out of the way, you get to the restaurant via a rather cheesy strip-mallish staircase, which is fine, because when you get upstairs, you feel like you have unearthed a little treasure. The layout of the restaurant itself is a bit wierd, but cozy all the same, with little rooms, alcloves and such. In reading several of the posts, I understand this to be attributed to the fact that the place was once a brothel. It sort of reminded me of my lovely Portland's "Old Town Pizza" in that it had a historic look, feel and vibe. The deep-dish sausage pizza we ordered was wonderful. The addition of fresh-roasted garlic was just heavenly. The crust was perfectly cooked and the cheese perfectly melty. Service was very nice. This was just another pleasant experience on our trip to the quaint Petaluma area. A very cute little town with great restaurants. We will surely return to Petaluma on our next trip to CA wine country. I am from Oregon, and we have wine country here too, so I must distinguish between the two... read more

God I love this one. Since moving back to Ptown, I started coming here more and more. Their staff is always fun and friendly. The service is great. They have a reasonable wine list that has some really good options on it. The large salad is always over flowing, and the homemade dressing are to die for. Now to the pizza. I love love love the pepperoni, or the sausage, maybe with a few black olives and that's it. I don't need actual veggies on it - because the sauce and the cheese is so tasty that your mouth is singing when you eat it. Some shit really puzzles me. Why would you go into a place named Old Chicago Pizza if you're not interested in Chicago-style pizza? They've got- get this- deep dish Chicago-style pizza there. If you're looking for a tasteless piece of cardboard that needs to be folded in half for grease-siphoning, you won't find it here. What you will find is a beautiful golden crust that doesn't taste of Bisquick, a sweet tomatoey sauce, and the smoothest, creamiest mozzarella I've ever had anywhere. Honestly, if they just wanted to bring that cheese out to me on a plate, I'd be a happy girl. It doesn't need 20 toppings. It's simplistic perfection. You might get a rude waitperson, and you will probably have to wait to be seated. Don't sweat it. It's worth it. The pizza itself takes about 35 minutes or so to bake. It's been a while since I've been back in beautiful Petaluma! My wife and I were looking for a spot for lunch and had a hard time picking from the many options around the area. I made an executive decision after she mentioned Old Chicago as a hot spot from our fellow Yelpers and it was a good choice! Situated on the second floor of an old brick building, Old Chicago Pizza definitely gives a vibe from the past. A vintage chandelier hangs over the bar and the floors appear to be original wood. We got a seat against the brick wall and it just screams original architecture! We went for a small deep dish, two topping pizza, with a small side of salad. For two? Would that be enough? I wondered myself. Well, the salad was a simple start to the carb heavy pizza! When the pizza arrived, it didn't look like much, but I have to admit that the dough was crusty on the outside and soft in the inside! Perfect! The toppings made the dough taste better and then I realized that this small deep dish is big enough for two especially when my wife was done after one slice, leaving me with three slices to finish! Good pizza? Oh, yeah! I think it's worth the wait for it to cook! One of the best deep dish in NorCal! We got plenty of attention from the waiting staff and we were happy with our quiet little big lunch! If you seat by the window, you could peek outside to see the streets and a small glimpse of the river. Parking isn't too bad, so no worries there. This is a great pizza place that has been here for a long time - we used to go here when I was a kid. Until I finally went to Chicago, this has been my defining standard for Chicago-style deep-dish pizza and it's still one of my favourites. I have been to a few other places outside Chicago supposedly serving this kind of pizza and none is as good s this place. The deep dish truly is deep-dish like in Chicago, a thick crust with tall sides and a deep topping of cheese,etc.It is delicious and it has a wonderful sourdough flavour to the thick crust, which has crispy parts and more chewy parts with a stronger sourdough character. The main difference between this and the pizza in Chicago, to me, is that this pizza is less crispy/crunchy on the bottom and has a strong San Francisco Bay Area sourdough character, which must just be due to the regional sourdough culture - this region really does have different sourdough from other places in , part, I understand, as a result of the local native yeasts. Anyway,they have a pretty good beer selection, pretty good salads, and the place is in a neat old building, upstairs with brick walls and big windows. A side note is that this apparently used to be a brothel for a long time and actually connected with the adjoining hotel (now destroyed - it was where the empty lot used to be) that catered mostly to those who worked on the boats and riverrfront back when Petaluma was a major local centre of regional cargo and passenger water transport to and from San Francisco and the Central Valley ports of Sacramento and Stockton, as well as other places on the bay. read more

Classic pizza joint in the heart of downtown Petaluma, located in an upstairs vintage building. I only paid ~$5 with tax and tip for a mini Chicago-style pizza. It was quite large (filling up the whole, square mini-takeout box), but it was ALL dough. I wanted more toppings and much more cheese, but the large amount of dough created a super thick edge-crust leaving not much space for the toppings. I called my order ahead and had to wait ten more minutes upon arrival (no big deal). Service could have been friendlier, as I was given my crazy hot pizza box when it was done (no bag) and offered no condiments (hey, I like red chili flakes). This place seems like a decent, casual, family-friendly restaurant, but alas, I am not fan of the Chicago pizza. read more

As a native Chicagoan I have to give them compliments, the get the deep dish crust right. I came here for dinner because I needed to edit my book and wanted a place I could sit, relax and get work done. Order their deep dish with garlic, sausage and mushrooms. They did it well, the sausage is how it should be, mushrooms good, although would have preferred more garlic. I had a couple glasses of wine and they were good, but to be expected in Sonoma county. Good Pizza! The crust was made to perfection even have the cheese inside the crust. Flavor on that pizza was very good old style. You should really go there hungry . We got a medium size pizza for two and it was way too much but at least I have food for lunch the next day. Our server was great and cut our pizza for us and served it. This place is soooo good that as my husband and I were racing to the airport we had to make sure that we stopped in to pick up a "small deep dish with double pepperoni, double mushroom, extra garlic" (you can't order extra cheese because they already include that). It is so filling that you shouldn't eat before you go, the small size has 4 slices more than enough for two people. The pizza is awesome and beyond filling!!!! Their Lisa Iskan salad is something we always order too with Italian and blue cheese dressing on the side. Lets put it this way by the time we got to the airport we had to run to the plane with 15 minutes to spare, because we had to stop for Old Chicago Pizza before leaving California. First time here for us and the impression is "wonderful"! The place is on the second floor of an old building and with the large window looking onto Petaluma Blvd N and the brick facade the ambience is old and comfortable. We arrived about 5pm and the place was not crowded - not so though when we left ! This place is very popular and I can see the reasons. We started with a wedge salad for me and pesto garlic bread for the others. The salad was enormous !!! I always order a side of dressing since most wedges I've had were more lettuce than dressing - but this one was swimming in dressing, just the way I like my salads. The lettuce was crisp and firm, green and tasty. Plenty of chopped onion and tomatoes, and blue cheese crumbles. An A+ for the salad. The garlic pesto bread was a first for us anywhere - two halves (3 slices each half for a full order of 6 slices) and a thick layer of pesto. Very delicious - it didn't last long. The pizzas were a small with double garlic (one order in sauce, one in cheese topping) and artichoke hearts and the other with sausage, pepperoni, onion, bell pepper, both deep dish style. They showed up hot and cheesy, but I wish I had ordered an additional helping of cheese - it would've been perfect, but the pizza I ordered was perfect as well. So, I guess extra cheese would've been more perfector ! The drinks were kept filed, even as the place itself filled up and wait staff were kept busy. The staff we had was attentive and fun to work with, very pleasant and cordial. And the price for three of us for appetizers, drinks and a small and medium deep dish was less than $60 - not what I expected !
