After hearing multiple friends and reading numerous reviews about this place, I was so happy after a day at the beach that my sister & friend decided that pizza would save us from the exhaustion of the day. When we walked in, the place was not too full - a few tables here and there. My mouth began to water at the sight of the deep dish pizzas walking by. Every second the pizza wasn't in my mouth, my level of hunger grew more and more. Finally, after some time, the pizza came out and best believe I inhaled as much of it as I could before taking a huge bite. Perhaps I was defeated by the drive back home or maybe I had ordered the wrong pizza. I gave my leftovers to my friend to take back to her family. This is literally one of the best thick crust pizzas that I have had. I have my standards of how I rate restaurants, and it is usually by ordering their most commonly ordered or basic food, in this case I order a cheese pizza and was quite pleased. But, I will say if I had known it was going to take so long to cook the pizzas, I would have ordered it take-out. The restaurant gets very crowded and busy on certain days of the week; i.e., Fridays, Saturdays. Would I go there again? Yes, Would I refer them to a friend? Yes. Are they reasonably priced? It's been a minute since I've been here. we had friends who lived in Petaluma, and on our first visit 25+ years ago....damn I'm getting old...they recommended we eat at this really great local pizza place. They knew I am from the Windy City and wanted my take on the deep dish pies made here. We walked through old Petaluma to the spot. Learning the building was once a brothel, added to the excitement as we strolled along the river, both couples with infant children in strollers. When we got there a seasonal "Christmas only" shop was down the hall of one of the "rooms" where ladies would entertain gents. We browsed as we awaited our table. Last evening, those memories were brought back crystal clearly with the assent up the stairs in to that familiar pungent yeasty, cheesy, brick clad main dining area with an ancient bar right as you walk in. Not much if anything had changed in all those years. That is except for one of the owners, who blessed us with her service and conversation. Apparently she started busting tables back when the restaurant opened, then with Fiery red hair. Today, sporting groovy glasses, blondish-Silver locks and a brilliant smile, as one of the owners keeping the tradition alive, she helped box up all that ZAH. I think she had to witness herself a table of 7 hangry Brothers, who each ordered a pie. A Couple ordered large ones individually. I'll bet that collection of ZAH once assembled on the large table out weighed her by 20 lbs. What she soon learned is we were just finishing golf and staying in the area had plenty for late night snacks, breakfast and lunch through the weekend! Having played Golf in Petaluma that day, One of the brothers said he was craving Pizza. 3 of us from Chi Town would surely appreciate a good Chicago style pie. So I suggested it sharing the link on yelp, which met with everyone's approval. Some 25 plus years later, the pie is as chewy, ooey and gooey delicious as the first time. One of he brothers calls me the "yelp elitist" and I was proud to carry that moniker with all the oohing and aahing going on around me. When I asked how long g the wait would be for a table the person who met me a door said "I dunno, a while I think" and walked away never to come back again. The ingredients are fresh with ooey-gooey cheese and topped with a generous amount of minced black olives. How brilliant! I enjoy tasting those creamy olives in every bite! They know the real deal when it comes to "deep dish" because they surely are not cheap with the way they layer each and every ingredient. We also had their salad and the pesto garlic bread, both which are very good. But honestly, I would save all the room for the pizza! Personal preference, no appetizers and more pizza please!! After a week since I had this with my family for the first time, I started craving it. So, I begged my pizza fanatic husband if we can drive almost an hour to get some Chicago pizza, he agreed. With an almost overwhelming selection of food options in downtown Petaluma, Old Chicago has that one thing I long for, deep dish pizza. Located above a year round Xmas store and gift shop, down a long hallway, Old Chicago seems, well, old. But don't let that stop you, I'd say more charming than run down, sort of like visiting grandmas, you'll see what I mean. Once seated you're greeted with a smile as the staff runs like a well oiled machine. Drinks were kept full and there was never a shortage of napkins. The menu is pretty simple, salads, breads and pizzas. We went for it ordering wedge salads, which came out fully loaded. I mean this is a salad to behold and can easily feed two. The garlic bread and the pesto bread were not and greasy, perfect combo with the salads. The pizzas were things of beauty. The first, a thin crust loaded with veggies including artichokes, olives, peppers and onions all bound with plenty of cheese. While healthy-ish, this was definitely satisfying. However the second pizza was something else, double stuffed crust filled to capacity with sausage and cheese on the lower crust and pepperoni and cheese on the upper. The proportion of protein to crust was perfect and satisfying though I wished the pepperoni wasn't so salty! After the salads and pizzas there wasn't much room left for dessert. I have been a patron here for many years. I no longer live in the area but when I visit, if I'm near, I come here. I have not found pizza like this where I live unfortunately. It never changes, always consistent. It's probably been two years since I've been and many more than that since I started eating here and it is always good. Only eat here if you have the disposable income to do so. Pizza is definitely choice and quality is superior to lost pizza joints. However, my last experience warrants a loss of 2 stars. Don't ever do delivery with them. When a customer gives you specific instructions, YOU FOLLOW. Not only was our pizza delivered to the wrong house, we were missing an item. They were kind enough to resolve the issue, they sent the driver back, only to receive cold garlic bread. It just looked like crap when i unfurled it from the foil wrapper it was in. Stopped through Petaluma for lunch and was looking for something filling. We decided on Old Chicago Pizza. The menu was a bit pricey, but it was well worth the price. We started with the garlic bread, I almost decided to skip the pizza and order several more orders of the garlic bread. It was hands down some of the best garlic bread I've ever had. I then decided to keep the pizza simple to save on some of the cost. I got a Large Pepperoni Deep dish. The server brought it out and served the first two slices. Watching the cheese pull away from the pizza made me excited to try the first bite. The bread had the perfect amount of crunch and the sauce to cheese ratio was right where I liked it. If I ever come through again it's hard to say I'd try any other restaurant. The server was extremely attentive and knew when to come and ask for refills or if we needed anything. Seriously, the best pizza ever. You can't get this same pizza delivered, and take out is not the same. Treat yourself and go order a pie. Order a Medium Deep Dish for 2-3 people (you'll take some home. It will take 35 minutes to bake it (plan on that). The restaurant is not huge, it's loud and it's busy. The quality of this pie is not only excellent- it's consistent. The service is casual but warm and friendly. I've never eaten more than 1 1/2 pieces of this thick delicious pizza at one sitting. My husband claims he holds the record at 4 pieces (but I wasn't there to witness it- and it's also hard to imagine). I've heard people from both Chicago and NYC say that they like this pizza. The good: the sauce and crust were tasty and the toppings were generous. Based on this, I would think this would be a good pizza. The bad: too much crust on the sides, greasy pizza that I had to blot more than 1/4 inch of grease off the top. It was just too doughy. As if they tried to stuff a regular pizza into a pan and shoved the extra crust down along the sides. It tasted better after reheating for 15 minutes so the leftovers were okay. Bummer. I visited this location a while back and completely forgot to review. Authentic Chicago deep dish is hard to find or replicate, but Old Chicago gets about as close as I have discovered. A pizza of this magnitude is the perfect comfort food especially on a cold rainy north bay night. Probably weighs 6 lbs or more. I took my pie to go, and would suggest doing so, since the upstairs location may be hard to navigate for anyone,especially if you have any type of disability (I believe an elevator is accessible) However I love the old turn of the 19th century's architecture. I have been coming here for years, it can get busy but if you like deep dish pizza and I know you do....look no farther than Old chicago Pizza. The building is old and the pizza place is located on the second floor. You can see the sign from the street but it's a maze of stairs and hallways when you enter the building...appreciate the journey. As you climb the steps to the second floor it hits hits you....the wonderful smell of baking pizza....like a moth to the flame you are drawn. There are 6 types of pizza: x-tra thin crust, thin crust, regular, deep dish, double crust and gluten free. I have only ever had the deep dish, I mean come one, if your gonna eat pizza go for the gusto...think of their deep dish as the Kate Upton of pizza....you know what I mean! Of note a nice variety of side salads....tasty with good dressings. HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE TURNED GOOD . We went in a month or so ago and we have a horrible but ended very happy. we had a very unpleasant server whom she seemed to not know much. Her name was Alex and she said she had been there for a year but yet she continued to mess up our whole order. We had repeated our order three times expressing we want deep dish. Our salad came out 10 min before our pizza showed up. Our pizza was completely wrong and it was very thin. She never returned to the table, instead we suddenly had a new server. She was very sweet and understanding. Pizza itself was delicious - Crust was very tasty, cheese was very flavorful and had that good stretch to it, the toppings were fine. Service from everybody was great during our entire time at the restaurant. We went in having read other reviews and knew we had to wait a good while for the double crust to be ready, we must have waited around 40 minutes; But the waitress was still attentive and would let us know it was almost ready. I had ordered an IPA that turned out wasn't ready or cold enough - instead of just serving me warm beer, another guy came to me and let me know that the keg wasn't ready and if i wanted something else. Not a big deal really and I was very appreciative of this small detail. THE PIZZA IS HUGE!!! Come in with 2 or 3 friends and share a medium deep dish - we drove up to Petaluma for other business and decided to have dinner up there but this place is definitely worth the drive just for the pizza. Delicious spot. Second story location that has quiet italian dining type of feel to it, but much more of casual dining. I got a small personal deep dish pizza that was delicious. I was initially shocked at how small it was thinking it wouldn't be enough, but it ended up being delicious and a great amount. I had pepperoni and sausage in mine and washed it down with some Lagunitas and was a great combo for a very reasonable price and very pleasant dining experience. read more

Huge portions, so many carbs, but when you come here, are you really looking for healthy eating? I love the options you get: Are you hungry? There's 6 types of pizza: x-tra thin crust, thin crust, regular, deep dish, double crust (its a pizza inside a pizza! Pizza-ception!) and gluten free. All carb-licious, and decadent, yes, even the gluten free one. You want something a little more, body-conscious? There's a green salad topped with the purgatory of salad toppings, such as mixed beans and cheese, but if you want an option other than pizza, garlic bread, or breadsticks, you're gonna have a bad time. Beer changes on a rotating basis, but I found the Full Sail Anchor on the pint to be quite friendly, and the wine selection is better than many pizza joints, so at least there's choices. Desserts have been hit and miss, the chocolate torte used to be my very favorite gluten free dessert in the area, but last time I had it, it was a little stale and tasted like the inside of a fridge. The worst parts of this place have nothing to do with their food, service, or selection, but with their parking, which is an absolute NIGHTMARE, and their wait, both of which are particularly cumbersome on the typical pizza and beer nights, Friday and Saturday. I find the acoustics to also be less than friendly, but I understand their space is limited, so they do what they can with what they have. I also love leftover pizza, for some reason, the second day it seems to taste better...but not with Old Chicago. Second day pizza was slimy and heavy, I ended up throwing mine away after a few bites.
