There was a 40 min wait when I got here around 7:30 pm, which was the estimate that I got when I placed my name on the waiting list. There was cute general store with souvenirs and a distillery next door that you could check out while waiting. They announce your name loudly overhead (you can hear it from outside as well as inside the general store). Once we were seated, however, service was fast and food came quickly. The decor was homey. Entrees were served with family style sides (which you could ask for refills of if you wanted): corn fritters, side salad, green beans, mashed potatoes, and corn chowder. The corn fritters alone were so good I could literally get just them and be happy. So fluffy, subtly sweet, and perfectly thin but crunchy breading. For entrees, my husband and I got country fried steak and fried rainbow trout. We were both pleased--everything was well seasoned and delicious, but not greasy or heavy. Dessert was offered to be packed to go which was nice since we were pleasantly full at the end of the meal. This was our second time coming here. The wait wasn't an issue as it is always busy. We got here around 2 pm on a Friday and waiting about an hour for a table for 2. The service was great as always. Drinks were filled and complimentary basket of corn fritters and a biscuit were divine as always. My husband had the chicken fried chicken and I had the country ham with added red eye gravy. Both portions were huge and the green beans and mashed potatoes that accompanied them were flavorful. My ham was extremely salty, but that's on me. I should have gotten the sugar-cured ham instead, but I wanted to try something new. This was our first time dining at Old Mill Restaurant and let me tell you, It definitely won't be our last. The only thing that's time consuming is the wait to get seated.I think we waited 1.5 hours to get called for dinner, which is the normal from what I've heard especially for weekends. Once we got seated everything moved pretty quick, our server was very knowledgeable and friendly on the menu items.To start off they bought us some type of fritters/ hushpuppys which were delicious along with corn chowder and a house salad.My wife ordered the Southern fried catfish dinner with coleslaw and a baked potato and I ordered the Country fried steak dinner with greenbeans and mashed potatoes and let me tell you everything was delicious.To top it off they also gave us dessert inwhich we got it to go because we both were stuffed with the generous portions they serve.Overall I give Old Mill five stars and we will definitely dine here evertime we visit Pigeon forge, both for breakfast (which I heard is delicious also) and dinner which I know is banging. read more

The entrées came out as family style, which basically means the sides came in their own bowl and were to be shared evenly with the rest of the table. Based on a former local's recommendation I made it a point to go for dinner and I truly wanted to love this place. Our wait for a weekday table was about 40 minutes, and we ended up going to a table on the third floor with a room overlooking the river. The orders were taken by a lovely blonde lady originally from Poland, and drinks and appetizers delivered quickly. The warm hush puppies were good, and we enjoyed them along with our small salads and creamy soup. However the quality of the prime rib and rib-eye was not good - both gentlemen commented that it was below average. I had the grilled rainbow trout (2) that was fine, but not spectacular. The other adult had a large salad with grilled chicken and ended up taking half home. A pot roast was served to our teenager who ate most of it. Although the service and location were good, I've really had many other better meals for less than our pricey meal - $35 for prime rib should have been better and the same for the rib-eye. read more

Oh where do I begin! Two Colorado hikers waiting 2 hours for artery clogging delicious southern food. Heck yeah!!! We had the fried chicken legs and BBQ ribs .... and it was finger licking good. The best fried chicken I have had in the south(SC, NC, GA and TN). The ribs just fall off the bone and the chicken is so flavorful and juicy. Each entree comes with Salad, corn chowder soup (oh so good), mashed potatoes ( great), green beans (so-so) and a dessert. We had the banana pudding which was perfect, banana chunks with right amount of nilla wafers, and the berry cobbler which was also great. They did have to go back to ensure the banana pudding was still available so there is a risk towards the end of the day that they run out. I loved our server, and just love the southern hospitality! There is ample parking a little away from the restaurant. We went there on a Thursday night around 6:00pm, had a two hour wait and were seated and eating starter corn fritters by 8:00pm. They put you on a wait list and annunciate your name in the whole town lol. Every near by shop, which looks like the business owns, has speakers and there is no chance you will miss your turn. To be safe you can go check with the attendee how close you are. But they will announce your name twice or thrice with a minute delay incase you missed it. Lastly they do have take out service which I did not know. But honestly it's best to sit down and eat fresh. I'd go back if I even returned to the area. We arrived at the old mill for dinner. We looked it up in advanced and it looked great and everyone wanted to go here for dinner. Prices look a bit steep, especially when you have 6 people in your group. We arrived and they said it would be an hour wait. Which was fine by us as we went over to the old forge distillery to enjoy a cocktail while we waited. They called our name at 66 minutes of waiting. We were told to go to the bottom of the steps and our waitress would wait on us. I glanced at the menu and no alcohol which sounded great because that was $100 savings right there along. We ordered our drinks, and they provided some of the best hush puppies that I've ever tried, and eventually provided us a sauce to go with them after I ate two without any sauce. All meals come with a side salad, corn chowder(yum) choice of potatoes(mashed, sweet) etc; and it's served family style portions. In addition to all of your food including the entree, they include a dessert. Truthfully after filling up on the hushpuppies, salad and eating one of the best southern style cat fish's that I've ever had, I couldn't take another bite. The food from the service that we had from Valeria (believe that was her name) was superb. She was a great waitress, quick on her toes and never missed a beat. If you want to come to a nice family sit down place to eat this is the place and judging by the wait and crowds this place does extremely well and doesn't need my review to keep ticking. We visited on a Friday in August and the place was PACKED and as our server put it, made for speed. They seated you so fast even when the line was long. The building is enormous with lots of wood and feels very country and homey. The food was overall good but not great. Clearly it was made for mass production. However I was so impressed with our server, he was so speedy and warm and we never had an empty water glass. I asked him what his step count was for the night and I believed him when he said he was already over 15,000. The corn fritters were delicious with the sweet butter and the soup was thick and had a smack of ham. Salad was your typical side salad. I opted for the plate of sides which were good but not great. The green beans were standard, the carrots were unfortunately very soggy, the baked apples were sweet but needed spices, and the broccoli casserole was the hit of the night. My companion got a chicken pot pie which had a nice crust and nice flavor but there was little chicken and the sauce was so thin it was more like soup. Every meal came with soup, salad, corn fritters, and dessert so there was a LOT of food. We took our desserts to go and ate them the next day. The chocolate cake reminded me of a good Texas chocolate sheet cake and the pecan pie had a surprisingly high amount of pecans and not too much goo. The southern fried chicken also has a nice crispy exterior encasing juicy abs tender chicken. We ordered the legs instead of breast though. Both the fish and chicken were nice and not too greasy but I felt a lack of seasoning! The fried steak was good, not great. I was a little disappointed with the gravy, although I most definitely not a gravy expert. I expected more flavor basically. Star of the show was the chicken pot pie although it's very heavy! Beautiful puff pastry exteriors encasing a soulful chicken and veggie soupy thing Accompanying green beans was nice, nothing extraordinary though! This is by far one of the best meals we had on our first day in Pigeon Forge. I had read so much about this place and how you can wait hours to go in. They have both an access ramp and an elevator to go upstairs. All along the way there are signs pointing out various aspects of the Old Mill and its history along with how Pigeon Forge got its name. We decided to chance to doing lunch. To my delight we were seated right away with a view overlooking the duck and the waterfall. The cute salt and pepper shakers are shaped like black bears and are heavy! You can find them for purchase in the nearby pottery shop. We had a very welcoming and charming waitress who gave us menu suggestions as well as give us prompt and accurate service. Most meals come with their signature corn chowder so I ordered their home cooked meat loaf. My husband had a club sandwich with fries and my daughter had a bowl of fresh fruit. We got the corn chowder first-it was creamy and rich! You could taste the ham in it. Very good. We got with our meal corn fritters and biscuits.-I could have eaten them all but save room for the main course. My meatloaf was soft and tender and had a ketchup covering. The whipped potatoes were just that soft and adding the gravy myself made it just right. The green beans were southern and believe me very good. I tasted a little of my daughter's fruit salad-the fruit was fresh and the dipping sauce not overly sweet. My husband enjoyed his club sandwich and fries. Spent a weekend in Pigeon Forge during the Jeep invasion this year. We normally eat breakfast at Cracker Barrel, but as we approached the parking lot there were only about 8 cars in the parking lot and thought that was odd for a Saturday morning. So we decided to do something different and revisit the Old Mill since we hadn't been there in years. So glad we did.
