This place was fine if you can't make breakfast at home, but it was a bit warm in there; the ac should probably be set lower or have better sealing. The food was just fine. Got the breakfast sampler and asked for eggs to be medium and hashbrowns to be well done. I got the hash just done, and the eggs were over easy. I had to ask for them to be sent back and redone because of that. The service was kind though. But the most concerning thing had to be the manager going around the restaurant, loudly smacking flies with a swatter or dish rag. It made a loud crack each time which interrupted everyone's dining, and it was honestly gross when she didn't wipe them off the table after. I would honestly not recommend this restaurant. I ordered a fish fillet and shrimp. What I got with four bite size pieces of fish and fried shrimp. The shrimp were actually pretty good if you add some seasoning to them. The fish tasted like dirt. I love catfish and I normally don't get bothered by the dirt taste, but this was pretty bad. I couldn't even eat all of it. My broccoli was cold and the mac & cheese was mealy. and there was no seasoning on that either. My husband had a single small pork chop, which he said was pretty good with potato salad and coleslaw, which are out of a bucket. It was not homemade. The only question--why don't you use Dukes Mayo if it's about The Duke?? From what we saw--the owners have given up. The food was boring and flavorless. We stopped in here for lunch, and the place was super busy for 11:3,0 but that's ok because our waitress was super nice and attentive. I got the catfish, which I was happy they had the grilled option over fried. The coleslaw was good, and I was able to get a fully loaded baked potato. A lot of food for a good price. We eat here once a month after attending a volunteer cooperative which benefits veterans all over the United States. Every time we come there are between 15 and 30 of us and I always accommodate us. They all make certain that we are well taken care of, our places are selling nothing else, and that will receiving our food fresh, and in a timely manner. This veteran owned business as a wonderful place to go and the amount of food that you get is crazy huge! I highly recommend the fried shrimp basket and the Bang Bang shrimp appetizer, although my husband is the first one to tell you that they have the best chicken and dumplings in town and he loves their chicken fried steak. We're locals to the area, recently moved out of Houston. We love breakfast/brunch here, but it would be nice if the hours were a bit extended for it (post church brunch would be lovely)! Anyway, our favorites are the pancakes, omelets, and breakfast tacos! So yummy, and portions are really generous. Traditional biscuits are delicious too, definitely worth a stop in! My husbands shrimp were good that's about it. My chicken friend steak had way more batter than meat and was tough. Mashed potatoes were almost liquid. Well, I should have trusted what I was told about the venue and the whole hot dog incident. But we wanted to see what Montgomery had to offer before we did Wine & Design. To start the staff was rude and ignored us at our table. It took quite awhile to even get drinks. Our appetizer was forgotten but they remembered not to put it on our bill at least. They have all of your favorite breakfast dishes plus some down-home favorites: pancakes, biscuits, eggs, griddled ham, breakfast burritos, omelets...you name it. Pair it with a giant mug of their coffee and you have yourself a meal that will make you very full and happy! I had their 2-2-2 special that came with 2 pancakes, 2 eggs your way, and 2 sausage or bacon. The pancakes were massive and fluffy, something I wish I could replicate at home. Solid first visit to Old Montgomery Steak House. My wife's family had several visitors in town for a wedding, so we were very appreciative of the restaurant allowing us to host our large group on the following Sunday morning. Food was great in terms of portion size. I do think this is one of their best qualities, as many of our group left with to-go boxes! I would try something other than the house omelet on my next visit, but overall, the group was pleased with the large menu of breakfast options to choose from. Despite missing an order, the staff was very friendly, accommodating, and they did their best during a very busy Saturday morning. If possible, I highly recommend making a reservation in advance if you know it's one of their busier mornings/times of day. read more

Walked in on Saturday afternoon and asked the man at the front door if I could use the restroom. He pointed to the door behind him. When I came out of the restroom the man was arguing with my wife telling her we had to buy something to use the restroom. I had no problem buying something from them for letting me use their restroom but the way he went about it as really interesting. We remember what the owner did to the kid that had the hot dog stand. Maybe this Sunday afternoon was an "off" day for them, but my experience here was so off-putting that I will never return. My main problem is how rude and combative the clerk taking my take-out order (waitress #1) was. I knew something was up when a random Waitress #2 walked by me and whispered "You need to check your receipt." while Waitress #1 was distracted. Sure enough, a side order of French fries is listed for $2.50 on the menu but frustratingly, waitress #1 charged me $5.95 because she deemed it an "appetizer". When I questioned this and physically pointed my finger to the pricing on the menu, she was curt, dismissive, and would not adjust the price. Whatever, I still wanted the fries. But I deeply regret buying them because they tasted cold, hard, and stale. This place seemed completely disorganized. Beware of the slow-as-molasses speed at which they crank the orders out of the kitchen. This is a great hometown, small town cafe, great food, service and reasonable pricing. Owner Wayne, a Navy Veteran, purchased this business a couple years ago when the prior 20+-yrs retired owners... Locals frequent this restaurant, as well as visitors. Fried shrimp is the BEST, big crispy onion rings, huge breakfast business, chicken fried steak, burgers, salads, bang-bang shrimp, chicken & dumplings, cobbler... I have been eating there 2-3-4 times a weeks, especially when I owned a nearby antique store... and since we moved here in 1993! Wayne has updated tables, chairs, dishes, made changes to the menu while keeping the old popular items... waitstaff is friendly and prompt. Parking onsite may get full during breakfast and lunch, sometimes for dinner... but there is other parking on the adjacent street. If you've ever lived where there is a hometown diner (like TV's Mel's), you will love this place. PS --I have seen a couple scathing reviews so ridiculous that are obviously bogus--two posted by one woman 3 yrs apart (one last month) who obviously tries to harm this place... maybe has a competing restaurant or friends with another place?.... One woman (same one?) posted a complaint about her car being towed--- She left her car in his parking lot for many hours--lunch/dinner & at 11p still there, so it was towed. I haven't been back here for breakfast in such a long time but I was excited to visit again. My go to is the Breakfast Tacos and they didn't disappoint either. Our Waitress was exceptional and very attentive always making sure we had plenty of water and coffee. If we were in the city with many options close by, we would have left. It makes me wonder if they know that with a lack of close by options in this space that they can take us for granted. The food was good, which I assume that in concert with a lack of options, is the only reason they have repeat business. The last time I was here, they brought out a full loaf of fresh, hot bread. I had fond memories of how good and unique it was. Not a bad place to grab some brunch. The service was good and I really enjoyed the options for sitting outdoors. The breakfast menu is good. It includes lots of classics. Definitively not a place to find an organic gluten free avocado toast with poached eggs and mimosas. This was homemade biscuits, grits, eggs, bacon, hash browns... all that sinful yumminess.
