My husband and I stopped by on a saturday night for dinner. He had eaten there years ago and was excited to take me there.
We ordered calamari for an appetizer and I will admit it was good.
I was debating on the steak bites app for 9.99 or the rib eye for 18.99. I decided on the rib eye because on the menu it stated that they were hand cut to order. (I was picturing this 2 inch thick juicy steak) I did order mine med well because that is what I like. I have been ordering my steaks like that for 30 years, it should have just a little pink in it.
When I received my steak it was only a half inch thick and did not look like a 19 dollar steak. I didnt care, I was hungry so I started cutting it and cutting it and cutting it.... it was so tuff I could barely get my knife through it! Our waitress was still standing there and she said maybe I was cutting it against the grain (really)!! So she walked away and I took a bite off one of the pieces I sawed off and it was terrible. I had my husband try a piece of the tenderloin part that was also hard to cut and he agreed with me.
It tasted bad. It was like chewing bark off a tree. Our waitress came back and I told her I was sorry but I could not eat the steak. She took my plate and asked if I wanted anything else and I told her no thank you.
So here is where my adventure gets good at the Old Stone..... all of a sudden this man in a dirty t shirt and apron came over to my table, (I was thinking that it was a manager or the chef coming over to apologize) but was I wrong! He put his hands on my table, leaned over and looked me in the eye and said "there was nothing wrong with that steak". I said I was sorry, but there was, it was tuff and I could not eat it. He started raising his voice and told me that "he cut that steak and cooked it and there was nothing wrong with it"! He also said "it was my fault because I ordered it med well". I explained that I always order my steaks that way and this one was tuff and did not taste good. He stared at me, leaned over my table some more and said "your paying for that steak". I looked at my husband with a confused look and asked him it this was really happening.... was this man really at my table confronting me and embarrassing me (there was a room full of people watching) and my husband said "yes, its really happening". My husband has a temper and I know he was trying very hard not to say anything to this very rude man. I said I did not think I should have to pay for the steak. The cook (he is not worthy of being called a chef) said "you will pay for it" and he walked away.
I looked at my husband and I said I cant believe that this just happened! I have been in the restaurant business for 35 years and I have never seen or heard of anything like this happening before. All of a sudden the cook came back to our table and said "get out, I want you out of here". I looked at my husband and he said "lets go". He stopped eating and we got up to walk away. The cook was standing there with his arms crossed and a nasty smirk on his face and said "dont ever come back"! He reminded me of a court jester with a pointy chin and evil face. I told him my aunt was a food critic and he will be hearing from her. He said something like she was stupid...... I was so upset I dont really remember his response.
We started walking out through the restaurant with everyone staring at us and all I could do was think about how embarrassed I was.
We were at the door and my husband told me we should still tip the waitress, this was not her fault. We stood there for a minute not knowing what to do when the cook came practically running to us and said "I have one more thing to say to you, "dont let the door hit you in your ass"!!!!!!!!!!!! I was standing by the door at this point and my husband, who was ahead of me said "lets go". I know my husband did not want to say anything because it wouldve turned even uglier.
I was still in disbelief that this was happening but as I was walking out I said the restaurant stinks and as the cook was closing the door I told him he was an a**hole!
There were so many things I shouldve said, but at the time I was in shock. I read another review about this restaurant on a different site where the cook came out and did the same thing to another customer about her steak.
I dont believe they will be in business very long if this is the way they treat customers. I wanted to call the manager or owner and explain what happened but I read that two brothers own the restaurant and they are also the chefs. I think that I was belittled by one of the owners!
We will never go back there and I will continue to tell my story to whomever will listen. Now Im off to write my review on another site . read more
