We literally had to wait FOREVERRR for the server to come to our table to ask for refills, or to check if the food was ok, we also waited a very long time to get our order taken at all and it was just 2 of us. The server would run past our table and not even give us a chance to flag him down at all!! My wife was so surprised when I told her I had never eaten at Ole's especially after living in NW Tucson for 40 yrs! We met some friends Sunday night to give Ole's a go and I must say I was very surprised I had never been there before. The place is great!!! Decorative interior, full bar and great food!!! We started off with the Toritos, yellow Chile Gueritos wrapped in bacon, grilled and filled with a shrimp and cheese 6ct. My friend and I both ordered the Chilaquilas with shredded chicken and green Chile served with rice n beans, wives had carne asada plate and a Topopo Chicken salad - delicious, everyone extremely happy with their selection. The Chilaquilas were perfectly cooked, crisp, very tasty and on the crunchy side. The shredded chicken was tasty and green sauce soaked! The bean n rice perfect, as good as I've ever had. First time visitors and we really liked the decor and friendly service. The salsa, a kind of ranchera, was different than the usual fare and quite tasty. My partner had the tostada and like it a lot. I had a cheese enchilada with rojo sauce and it was very tasty. Almost like New Mexican style. We got the lunch specials and walked out of there with happy tummies for only about $11. For Mexican food this was an alright restaurant. I believe the food was a little plain and could have used a bit more seasoning. For my dish, I ordered the flauta dish which I had to drench with salsa to get flavoring. Even mixing all the beans, guacamole, and lettuce didn't make too much of a difference. However aside the service was very social able and made sure we had our chips and salsa filled. The only reason I did give this place a 3 star and not 2 is because the decoration. If you are with a group of people who want to go out for Mexican food but one of the people really does not like Mexican food, this is the place! Bland, tasteless food. Tried the fish tacos. Bland stale tortilla and it tasted like muddy Tilapia. Refried beans... canned but that is expected. Rice was tasteless. One of the first things we noticed when we were seated was that there was no odor of food. People all around us were eating but we could not smell anything. We got plenty of time to enjoy the ambiance while waiting for someone to take our order. If you are tired of wait staff always taking your orders, bringing your food and then asking to make sure everything is OK, well you can look forward to none of those pesky things happening here. Great food and atmosphere! Salsa was just OK! We found ourselves eating here by accident. We were in the area and needed a quick bite between appointments. Ole turned out to be a pleasant surprise. The salsa was not bad but wasn't great either. I went with the 3 item combo plate that had a beef taco, cheese enchilada, tamale with the beans and rice. It was served on 2 plates and was not only great tasting but also very filling. My wife was pleased with her food. The rice was exceptionally good and may have been the best rice I have had at a Mexican food restaurant (perfect texture!). This place has a nice decor inside. On a Sunday afternoon the crowd was mostly older folks dressed as if they were coming in after church. All walking through the door appeared to be regulars and knew the servers by name. It was busy but not crowded. They have a nice little separate bar area inside of the restaurant that I walked through. It looks like a pretty cool place so next time I will have to try the bar. Outside dining is available on the side patio. I would not make a special trip to eat here but would return if I was in the area and wanted some good Mexican food. Food & service has always been good here for many years. However I have an issue with the new policy of a 3.5% extra charge on the bill if you use a credit card! Huh! For years most businesses turn their nose up at cash and all of a sudden you insist on cash or you'll penalize the customer? Bad business practice - surely after the many many years you've been in business you can accept credit cards without a penalty to the customer. So we've gotten take out from this place about 4 times now, and it's been perfect every time. The mini chimis with shredded beef are always hot and crispy, the beef always tastes fresh and clean. Not too fatty or greasy. The red chili beef is excellent, especially in a chimichanga style. The tacos dorados have beef and potato and are then fried--I like those a lot too. My only complaint is the flautas don't have a lot of meat in them, so I get tacos dorados instead. The beans are good, salsa is good. They don't douse their food in cumin like other places, so no overpowering flavors. What I most appreciate, is that they accommodate putting all the condiments on the side so the food doesn't get soggy on the drive home. Mexican American restaurants have the bad habit of smothering everything in copious amounts of melted yellow cheese, sour cream, guacamole, and witty warm soggy lettuce--which makes your tortilla soggy. Food is meh and the management is severely lacking. Expect wildly inconsistent wait times and inconsistent food quality. The owner doesn't really seem to care. COVID is such a poor excuse now when they have booming business. They really need to hire more people and replace managers (except for the female manager since she actually tries) with ones who actually know what they're doing and care about customer service. Best Mexican food restaurant we have had in the Tucson area... But the absolute worst service. Didn't have anyone come to our table for anything for at least 10-15 minutes. We got chips and salsa, then several minutes later we finally see the waitress who then asks us what to drink. Appetizer & the rest of our food all came out at once. Several things forgotten or never brought to our table when we asked. Since the service took so long we ate through the chips and salsa pretty quick so we asked for more when we ordered drinks & asked twice before she remembered. Another time We asked for more chips and salsa 3 times before they finally brought more. Took my plate away when I went to bathroom and I wasn't finished eating. Ordered an Arnold Palmer drink & refilled just with ice tea later because she forgot what the drink was. (No big deal in itself). Three of us had dinner here last night. The overwhelming consensus was that it was pretty mediocre at best food. Two of us had the chicken mole, one had the chicken enchiladas. We all thought that the sauces tasted like canned sauce, and poor quality sauce at best. The chicken was pretty flavorless as well, and that applies to both the beans and the rice. If you get the beans, I thought the whole beans had better flavor than the refried beans. I rarely order rice at Mexican restaurants (except that it comes with the dinner) because even at 'great' Mexican joints, the rice is always a disappointment, and it was here as well, neither worse nor better than most other places I've eaten at. Now this review is based on only 2 dishes, but really, mole and enchiladas aren't that hard to make at least somewhat flavorful. Not the case here. I have no Idea why it gets so many great reviews, either these people don't know even halfway acceptable Mexican cuisine or they are friends of the restaurant. Ole Mexican Grill is right in the middle of the Mexican food scene in Tucson. This is really a three-and-a-half star review but I'm erring toward four-star because honestly I have few complaints. Their mainstay is the Carne Seca, which I had as a tostada, and it was quite enjoyable. The portion sizes are very decent and the speed of the kitchen is remarkable. My wife and I had our dishes less than 10 minutes after ordering. My only complaint is that the food was average and it didn't wow me as I hoped it would. Honestly I'm not attached to any particular Mexican restaurant in Tucson so I'm constantly on the hunt for a place that stands out above the pack. I would definitely go back to Ole but I wouldn't make it a point to go back again either. read more

I'm sorry Ole but this was really bad Mexican food. The service was decent but as far as authentic Mexican, it really missed the mark. Everything from the chips at the beginning to my $8 caldo de queso which consists of pretty much just potato and cheese. The red flag is the ground beef tacos, burritos, u name it...really no such thing. Just like Taco Bell does not serve authentic food. The decor is cute and upon entrance I was intrigued but the food really needs help. Next to Asian food, Mexican food is my other specialty. I visit Mexico on average about every 3 months. Probably good for those looking for Tex-Mex or Americanized Mexican food but I doubt you find Mexicans wanting to eat here. read more
