When I looked at the menu, my first reaction was why are the prices so high for a place that is not that fancy? Ordered their combination: tamale, chili relleno, shredded beef taco, rice and beans. I'm sorry Ole but this was really bad Mexican food. The service was decent but as far as authentic Mexican, it really missed the mark. Everything from the chips at the beginning to my $8 caldo de queso which consists of pretty much just potato and cheese. The red flag is the ground beef tacos, burritos, u name it...really no such thing. Just like Taco Bell does not serve authentic food. The decor is cute and upon entrance I was intrigued but the food really needs help. Next to Asian food, Mexican food is my other specialty. I visit Mexico on average about every 3 months. Probably good for those looking for Tex-Mex or Americanized Mexican food but I doubt you find Mexicans wanting to eat here. read more

Three of us had dinner here last night. The overwhelming consensus was that it was pretty mediocre at best food. Two of us had the chicken mole, one had the chicken enchiladas. We all thought that the sauces tasted like canned sauce, and poor quality sauce at best. The chicken was pretty flavorless as well, and that applies to both the beans and the rice. If you get the beans, I thought the whole beans had better flavor than the refried beans. I rarely order rice at Mexican restaurants (except that it comes with the dinner) because even at 'great' Mexican joints, the rice is always a disappointment, and it was here as well, neither worse nor better than most other places I've eaten at. Now this review is based on only 2 dishes, but really, mole and enchiladas aren't that hard to make at least somewhat flavorful. Not the case here. I have no Idea why it gets so many great reviews, either these people don't know even halfway acceptable Mexican cuisine or they are friends of the restaurant. My advice is to spend your money somewhere else. read more

We had breakfast here the other morning, after driving around Tucson, in search of breakfast burritos. Ole Mexican Grill serves other, typical, American breakfast foods like pancakes and eggs, but we were all about the burritos (okay) and huevos rancheros (great). I made the thirty minute drive to Ole from the east side of town specifically to taste their salsa so that I could place an informed vote in AZSTARNET's salsa madness contest. I'll end the suspense now by telling you that, had AZSTARNET allowed me to vote (I jumped through hoop after hoop and still couldn't do so), I would have voted for Martin's salsa - by a nose. BUT! Everything else about Ole beat Martin's by a mile. The service was prompt and truly friendly, the decor was charming and my entree - carne seca (something I'd never tried before) was delicious, as were the refried beans that came on the side. Living as far away as I do, this won't be a regular haunt for me, but I'll definitely make it a stop when I need to pick up Thai ingredients for my husband at Lee Lee's. read more

While this is not the best Mexican food in Tucson, the restaurant does a great job of providing good service. On two separate occasions I was presented with the wrong order. Not only did they correct my order, but they removed the item from my tab and provided a free order of beef taquitos which were exceptional. Nonetheless, the service is exceptional, the atmosphere is good, and there are many choices to satisfy even the most picky guests. I would give five stars, but like I said, there are better places at a cheaper price. However those restaurants do not offer the selection, atmosphere, and friendly service that is offered at Ole. read more

After much chiding by the staff for eating the same Chili Colorado dish every time I go, I decided to try something else. The menu said the "Best Carne Seca in Tucson." That was something that I had to taste. I ordered my Carne Seca with the Chipotle Sauce option. (That option comes with Monterey Jack cheese as well, which it does not need). I took my mother out to dinner last night at this restaurant. When we walked in, we were greeted immediately for seating. We prefer a booth, but they were all taken, so we opted for a table by a partition. The layout was comfortable, close but not crowded. We were given a bowl of thin, crisp corn chips and dish of a flavorful salsa and our drink orders were taken right away. We both had margaritas. They were on the rocks (frozen was not offered). The drinks were brought promptly. The margaritas were good; not the best I've ever had, but definitely satisfactory. Our orders were taken. The menu prices seemed a bit high for what was offered. Our server was a pleasant young woman, smiling and polite. Mother ordered one of their chilie (sic) rellenos a la carte ($6.49), and I ordered their nachos with all the extras (they come with cheese and sour cream; beans, guacamole, pico de gallo and meat are all extra). The price on that was $10.49. When the food came, it was very attractively presented. The plate of nachos was enormous! Mother was impressed with the presentation of her chilie relleno, but she said the flavor was lacking, and the skin of the chili was tough. The mountain of nachos I got was pretty good, but not the best I've ever had. I had carne asada on them. The meat was tender, but lacking in seasoning. The guacamole and sour cream were both inadequate for the amount of nachos on the plate, and the guacamole, too, was lacking in flavor. After the food came, the level of service dropped off, and we had to ask other servers to send our server back to us at least twice. Over all, the experience, while not the worst by far, nevertheless was not stellar either. I might go back, but I have no overwhelming urge to do so. read more

Disappointed. Service was very slow for lunch (have to return to work). Ordered chicken fajitas and the chicken was flavorless, over cooked, dry and chewy. No lettuce or cheese were on our small plate of fixings. The ratio of meat to veggies was 90 to 1 (one being the meat). I was pleasantly surprised to find genuine Carne Seca on their menu and it is delicious. Since them, we have come back again and will most likely be a regular event while visiting in Tucson. The restaurant manager who was very rude insulted me, he talked about me as a parent. He even went as far as lying and saying he was the owner. He refused to give me the owners information and he was extremely unprofessional. Telling me I was a bad person and parent. We've been coming here for years, not only for the food, but because it's family owned and has pretty good service. In fact we've had them cater a couple of family functions. Unfortunately the service and the food is going downhill. Last night my wife and daughter in law ordered the fish taco special and were very disappointed at what they received. Their tacos had two thin slices of fish for each taco. Their beans and rice were warm and not hot. Besides our waitress having a difficult time with writing down our order, she rarely came by the table to see how everything was and if we needed anything. She was more interested chatting at the bar than watching her tables. Maybe they should go back to family working the tables or at least having a greater presence in the operation. Ole is my favorite mexican restaurant in Tucson. My sister and her longtime friend went there about ten days ago. My sister was treating her friend to a last meal before her friend was to begin a grueling cancer treatment. They ordered their food and asked the waitress with the two toned hair if Ole's margaritas were good, the waitress's reply was "it's a margarita"!. They ate their food and ten minutes later my sister starting having extreme diarrhea. She hid it from her friend until she could not hide it anymore. She finally said she had to leave and went home. Her friend went into the hospital to begin her "stem cell therapy" and my sister did not talk to her for the next week. After talking to her a week later my sister discovered her friend had also gotten very sick after meeting for dinner with my sister. I have had many, many great meals at this restaurant but felt I had to let you all and the management of Ole about this I also have a complaint about the above waitress. My mother was in Northwest Hospital about five times over a year and a half. My sister and I would go to Ole often. We were in there on a Thursday and had a carne seca cheese crisp before our meal. Two days later we brought my brother and his wife there. I ordered the same cheese crisp and when it came out it did not even resemble the crisp we had two days before. I mentioned it to the waitress and she blew me off with "It looks the same as it always does!" I said again "I am telling you that looks nothing like the one I had two days ago." She replied that it was the same as it always was and left. I hope the management of Ole reads this and knows it is written with respect. read more

Came here with a large party while in town celebrating my moms birthday. Don't have a whole lot to say because it's a simple Mexican food restaurant. Nothing over the top. However Mexican food is my favorite and always go to but I wasn't completely impressed here. And that's just what we got, one scoop of the cheapest store bought vanilla ice cream. Whatever no biggie. when we all got our bills there was a few issues, first off I got charged as if I got the rice and beans which I didn't so that was annoying. And the best part was my best friend who got a burrito was charged for a side of guacamole . Wait for the funny part, SHES ALLERGIC TO AVOCADOS!!! So she absolutely did not order nor have guacamole. When we brought it to the managers attention he took it to our waitress and we could hear her arguing about it obviously annoyed. Probably will choose somewhere else next time we have a celebration!! We used to love this place when we first found it, but the quality of service has steadily gotten worse over time. The food is good, but the service was simply unacceptable. As a service/retail worker myself, I understand the difficulties waiters and waitresses experience. Our waitress tonight was rude and inattentive. We asked several times for extra napkins and never got them. It took one of us walking up to the kitchen to get my mother tortillas for her fajitas. The waitress would cut us off or walk away while we were trying to talk to her and generally seemed like she didn't want to be there or deal with us. The one saving grace was the busboy who took care of us, but unfortunately it wasn't enough for us to want to ever go back. read more
