So glad we found this place on yelp. Don't be fooled by the decor, food is very tasty and we really enjoyed our meal. I had the vegetarian platter and the owner was nice to let me substitute hummus for baba ghanoush. The food came out nice and warm. I got there shortly after they opened for dinner. The atmosphere is very relaxing and the place is very clean. The food selection is excellent. The people there were very friendly. I ordered the mixed vegetarian appetizer and the kufta kebab platter. It was absolutely delicious. Very fresh and tasty. Olive is a cute, clean family-owned and operated place in downtown Dayton. We stopped in for a late Saturday afternoon lunch. Service was great and the owners were welcoming and charming. The guys in our party ordered gyro sandwiches, one with a salad, the other with potatoes. I ordered a Greek salad with gyro meat. The food was made to order, hot, and fresh. The lettuce in my salad was crispy and there were nice-sized pieces of feta. The gyro meat was served on the side. It was tender and juicy. Prices were very reasonable and the portions generous. The only suggestions we would make is that we would have preferred more seasoning in the gyro meat. In our opinion, it could have used more salt and a bit heavier hand with the other spices. My Greek salad was dressed with wine vinegar, which was actually a little more pungent than I would have preferred. The herbs on the salad were great. I probably would have preferred just a squeeze of lemon and a drizzle of olive oil instead of the vinegar. Overall, though, an enjoyable lunch and we would like to come back to try some of their other dishes. read more

I know that downtown Dayton isn't the most welcoming of places but trust me when I say TAKE THE TRIP AND EAT AT OLIVE MEDITERRANEAN! The first thing you notice when you enter is it's extremely clean, organize and pandemic ready. The young man that greeted us was friendly, professional and wore his mask correctly (no under the nose for him). They had lots of vegan options so we ordered the Vegetable platter, Lentil soup and a hummus plate. One word to describe everything: amazing! The soup was very hot (as soup should be) and the taste was rich, creamy, a tad bit of spice and very fresh. The Vegetable plate with rice, falafel and hummus was also seasoned perfectly and the combination was excellent. It was a lot of food for a small price. Suffice to say we almost licked the plates because it was sooooooooo good. If you're ever in the Dayton area, take the trip downtown and visit this friendly, clean, professional, exceptionally tasty, inexpensive restaurant. You will not be disappointed. Ps... DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY! first they forgot one of my items so I had to travel all the way back to the restaurant after I had already got to my next location Sat down to enjoy my food and ruined the whole experience,because I was missing the main component. To add insult to injury the so called "Gyro" is discussing! It literally made me feel like throwing up. I'm not being mean or picky but it was not gyro at all. It had no texture at all it was all soft mush mush....like gelatin or jello jelly and soaking wet sitting in a mystery liquid. The flavor and seasonings where nasty and nothing like traditional gyro flavor whatsoever. I understand not everyone wants to give refunds so I asked could I exchange for some grilled chicken. She said No it's too bad that's how they make it. I've never in life had a restaurant refuse to compensate you in anyway for a dish that you found repulsive. At least refund exchange something. So just know if you find something awful here they will steal your money and not care. No hospitality or customer service whatsoever. And you would think since they forgot an item and I had to turn around and come back they would be looking for an opportunity to make things right. I paid 17 for a salty falafel, a heaping pile of jello meat. A basic salad that was small and rice that had a weird aftertaste and whole cloves were left inside which are hard and not meant to be chewed or eaten. Arrogant narcissist and entitled. At least don't call your overly processed slime gyro because it misleads people. Have some dignity I've had gyro from all different ethnic restaurants from Mediterranean to Middle East and none of them would call this or have ever tried to pass something like this off as gyro. This place knows how to take care of their customers! Meal: On the suggestion of my sister-in-law, my husband and I went for late lunch/early dinner on a recent mid-week afternoon. He ordered the Mixed Grill platter and I ordered the Shish Kabob platter. We both substituted the rice for Greek potatoes, and choose the Tzatziki sauce. Neither of us had even heard of this restaurant before. Our meals were absolutely amazing. The food was fresh and cooked to perfection. The portions were large and when compared to the price for each platter, a very good bargain! We both loved our meals and will be going back to try other dishes. Food was brought out to us very quick. Service: Service was great! We spoke with Fred and another gentleman. Both were very polite, fun to talk to, and were genuinely interested in our experience. Unlike my husband, I'm not too familiar with Mediterranean food. I appreciated the extra effort both Fred and his coworker took to help explain and describe some of the dishes they offered. We felt part of the family. Restaurant: The location isn't the greatest and it certainly doesn't help having all the construction right there, but they have put a great deal of effort into making the building nice. The restaurant was clean and well-cared for. One note: I absolutely froze! I wished I had a jacket or a blanket. I guess with more customers (we were virtually the only customers there at the time) the interior temperature would be much more pleasant, but for that day, I had goose bumps from chills the entire time. Anytime I go back, I'll be sure to bring a jacket or something like that with me. Dessert: Both my husband and I ordered the Baklawa. This little delicious sweet pastry was over the top! Seriously! I thought I have had tried it in the past, and may have, but this was like nothing I've ever had. I'd go back just for the dessert. It is big enough to really be shared between 2 people, but we both went and attacked our own this time. Price: Seriously, a really good value for the amount of food, and quality of food, we were served. 2 sodas, 2 platter entrees with generous sides, and 2 desserts for about $30. It is great to know they also do catering and To-Go orders. We definitely will be back this week as it is a new favorite! Side note: Next time we go, we'll bring our daughter. Though Olive offers delivery and carry out, we've only dined in. The dining room isn't much to look at, but the food and friendliness makes you forget all about that. I highly recommend the Mixed Grill if it's your first time, so you can sample your way through their offerings and figure out what's your favorite. I love the Greek salad that accompanies the platters. I could eat half a pound of that salty feta! Even the rice is delicious with the addition of lemon and spices. The menu stated that they came with a home-made vinaigrette but we received none. The amount of meat on the plate was very small. The meat tasted pretty good but was over cooked. The rice was overly salty. The hummus was a bit on the bland side but still good. The pita was store bought and a bit stale. We just moved to Dayton in an apartment downtown, and our stove is broken and we are exhausted, so we looked for a nearby place for takeout. MASSIVE WIN. But the star of our meal was the babaganoush, so creamy and smoky. Plus, for $7 to $9 each, a bargain! The pita quarters and tzatziki sauce were very good, as well. So, Cinco de Mayo, right? Everyone else is off getting Mexican food; Jules and I head out for Greek. I rather enjoy Greek food, while Jules outright loves it, so we were excited to see Olive in this location. Shawarma that close to our place? Can't beat it with a stick, right? I was a bit shocked to see Olive so empty on a Saturday night. Only a few other tables were occupied when Jules and I arrived around 6:30, which was more than a little disconcerting. However, this did mean that we were on the receiving end of some exceptional and attentive service. The food, though? Pretty damned good. Our hummus appetizer (a small, by the by) was more than enough for both of us to enjoy. The mixed grill platter I opted for was overflowing with various meats, rice, and veggies. The gyro meat was particularly good, being well-seasoned and cut just a little thicker than usual. The chicken, as well, was quite toothsome, with a great grilled flavor. The shish kabob, however, was something of a letdown. While the kabob was flavored well, the cut of meat used was particularly tough and was difficult to even cut, much less chew. Aside from that, though? Everything was phenomenal. No complaints whatsoever. I do understand that Olive will be moving to a downtown location; once they're moved in, give them a run! read more

I want to start by saying the food here is amazing! My only detraction is that the place seemed understaffed, and it showed. The first time I came here, it was with a group of 15 co-workers. We called ahead about 15 minutes to prepare them, and they said it was fine. We got there, and they were setting up plastic catering tables and plastic folding chairs to get us seated. Then, we sat for an hour and a half waiting on our food, after an hour of being seated and receiving drinks. The wait staff was busy with our orders to refill drinks, so some of us went to the drink fountain and got our own drinks. I went back a few weeks later, and ordered take out. I guess there was a mix up with another order and I had to wait another 10 minutes for my take out. There was barely, if any apology, and I wasn't given a partial refund or extra anything as most places do. I wasn't expecting more, but if you aren't going to at least apologize for it, you should give some good grace to have people come back. The food was decently priced for Mediterranean, and tasted amazing for the most part. It's painfully obvious they aren't ready to take that next step but their food is. read more

Stopped in Dayton overnight when passing through to Indy. The place we stayed was near about 100 chain restaurants. Instead we wanted a non-chain for dinner and settled on this place. Decor and ambiance aren't the best, but at $20 for two people for dinner, who can complain? Also, the food was awesome. Started with hummus. Really good.
