Omaha's not so prime should be the name over the door to this downtown "classy elegant" steak house. The food was great, the service was sub-par from the start. The host led my date and I upstairs and to the table and pointed at it and left. "Classy elegant" would have pulled the chair for the lady. Our server went straight into a rehearsed, rushed performance on the a la cart and menu. No warmth, no welcome, nothing except the script. And no - it wasn't busy. Anyhow, food out in good time and delicious. Where this place drop kicks the classy elegant ball is in the restroom (and overall needs some attention appearance ). When you spend over $150 for a dinner you would expect that the restroom would look better than a dive bar, or highway gas station. This is truly a five-star restaurant, and the prices reflect it. We were on our honeymoon, so we felt it was worth it. We both had the bone-in filet, which was supreme and expertly prepared. As others have stated, the sautéed mushrooms are exceptional. The French onion soup was adequate, but not the best--the wrong type of cheese was used for an authentic soupe à l'oignon au fromage. The bacon wrapped quail was a terrific appetizer. I was not too impressed with the blue cheese potatoes--order something else. We had a most excellent waiter, but for some reason we were also pestered by a young, snarky waitress who may benefit from training on how to properly serve in a fine dining venue. We had never been to Nebraska and had one evening in Omaha. Our hotel was close to Old Market so we walked over. Old Market is an amazing area that looked beautiful all lit up for the holidays. We walked around and came across Omaha Prime and thought it's Nebraska so we should have steak. We both had the dry aged Kansas city strip with a sweet potato and a baked potato with bacon. Well, coming to the heartland of meat, I thought that finding a half-way decent piece of meat shouldn't be so tough. Well, as it turns out, not only was a tough to find a good steak place, once a steak place was found, the meat was as tough as the journey. This place sucks, plain and simple. From the minute you walk in the front door to an open area/room with no chairs, a bar that is but a shell (no booze, no glasses, just a bar) to the MEH food, the whole experience was underwhelming. First, off, the waiter comes over and asks if we have been to the restaurant before, we said no. He proceeds to tell us about the cuts of meat they have, where on the cow the meat comes from, etc., as if I have just come home from a mission to the dark fucking side of the fucking moon. Dumb ass waiter: you see, the rib-eye comes from the back of the cow and attached sub-laterally to the top of the rib cage... Me: Yo, fuck face, do I look like I want a friggin anatomical demonstration?? Bring me a caesar and the prime rib, MEDIUM DAW: scurries away like a cockroach Fuck that. Anyhoos. Caesar was ok, meat tasted like it was friggin boiled. If there was one spice on this meat, it must have jumped off the plate before it got to the table. And, it was overcooked (or in this case, over-reheated). I had to go to Omaha on business. Everybody kept raving about the steaks. So we ended up trying this place. We ended up getting the whole steak presentation prior to ordering. Highly educational. However I was interested in a good steak not an infomercial. I ordered a fillet, medium. What I received was a rare fillet. I'm talking borderline raw. I probably should have sent it back but I had been watching a lot of Man vs Wild and figured if Bear could eat a raw zebra then I could handle this. I ate all but one bite and despite my fears didn't get sick during the night. So overall this meal was a bust, especially when you factor in the price. The only thing that saved this from receiving one star from me was the service and the sides. Our waitress was really attentive and the sides were pretty tasty. Omaha is Warren Buffet town. And Buffet likes older Italian steakhouses that are quaint and homey and a bit cheaper. Good for him. Omaha Prime is a more typical old school steakhouse. It isn't cheap, but the steaks are amazing. In two trips I had the filet and the ribeye, and I did not look back. The service was great without being obtrusive. My third trip to downtown Omaha and I'm shocked why I cannot get a good steak in this town. The concierge at the hotel recommended this place and a couple of others which I also had bad experiences at. Bottom line - this is average at best and when compared to elite steak houses like Morton's, Peter Lugar's and Ruth's this place is like fast food. Is it unfair to compare this place to other city's elite houses? No. Not when you are charging $40+ per steak. Only bottled beer was served and selection were terrible unless you like Bud and stuff like that. Wine list was very limited and not that good. FOOD My friend ordered a 14oz fillet and I ordered a NY strip. His was OK. Mine was terrible. As for the Asparagus, it was pretty bad. Nothing more needs to be said. AMBIANCE OK but not what you would expect from a steakhouse. This was more like an Italian or French restaurant. I like is somewhat dark with lots of wood and big tables. Anyone who has been to a high-end steakhouse knows exactly what I am talking about. Another thing was the carpet in this place looked like the 1970's. A random stop on a cross country drive turned out to be a hell of a meal. I was slightly scared by the presentation of all of the raw meats and veggies on a tray covered in saran wrap, but the first glass of wine took care of that. In all honesty, I could've done without seeing the goods, it is not as classy as they think. We sat "outside" on a balcony that looked over into this enclosed cobblestone street lined with trendy shops and restaurants. I missed the wind on my face, but the second and third glass of wine helped with that. The waiter was trained like a dog at the westminster kennel club and he taught us all kinds of things about true Omaha Prime Steak. Of course, my fillet was mind boggling and a change of underwear was required for the rest of the journey. Leaving was the hard part and the 5 more hours of driving was going to be rough... I went to Omaha Prime with 7 other family members and friends prior to seeing a show at the theatre. We were in a bit of a hurry, and the wait staff worked with us to get our wine, appetizers, food and bill out quickly. I had the filet, and it was easily one of the best steaks I have ever had, certainly in recent memory. The filet was extremely tender and flavorful. Everyone else in my party had steak as well, and each person had extremely positive things to say about theirs. I look forward to coming back again the next time I'm in Omaha! read more

This restaraunt is located in the Old Market in Omaha. It's a small spot just near the passageway. We mainly picked this place because it had chicken Piccata, which is my favorite. We had to order takeout due to the COVID pandemic. The Owner or Manager looked to be the only working besides maybe a cook in the back. He was extremely nice over the phone while I ordered and was super helpful with suggestions. Also when I arrived to pick up the food he was generous enough to throw in bread and 2 FREE desserts. That really put the cherry on top. The food was delicious even with it having to sit in the car for my 20 minute drive home. He's offering free delivery for the time being and also had a deal of 30% off wine which is terrific for the type of wine that I like. We always want to support local and even in this time we want to try and help out even more. The experience that we had on our most recent visit only wants us to return to this place as soon as possible even more! read more

We went on a Friday and the place was pleasantly quiet. The waitress said that the week days are their busy days. They have a great seating area on the balcony in the Old Market Downtown but make sure and use the entrance on 11th St. If you are looking for a wide range of steak choices, this is your place but be prepared to pay for it. Every time you sneeze its another $20. We started off with the quail breast which were amazing in flavor but of course they are the breast of tiny birds so be prepped for that. More an hors d'oeuvre than an appetizer. Steaks all seemed cooked to perfection and the flavor was good. I would recommend the marbled New York Strip for that juicy steak flavor in a medium cooked piece of beef. They have something called a tomahawk. It looks large but I would be anxious to some day try it and see how much is bone. The blue cheese potatoes sounded better than they were. I was crazing full crumbles of blue cheese but it was mixed in with a sort of gravy finish. It was a great restaurant to try but I'm not sure I will make it back. Had the best filet I've ever had. So soft! Huge baked potatoes which waiter advised we might want to share. Sure enough half was plenty and we saved the cost of the extra order. Nice upstairs dining with "garden" tables as well on an outside balcony in the buildings central atrium. My son had the porterhouse and loved it too. Being from Nebraska I understand and appreciate a prime cut of beef, excellently seasoned and professionally cooked. Having eaten at many great restaurants in the US and the EU I appreciate a non-pretentious, comfortable fine-dining experience. Prime exemplifies both. I have eaten there three times over the last 3-4 years as I do not live in Omaha and only visit Omaha occasionally. A trip to Omaha is not complete without a visit to Prime and the service provided by its proprietor - Moe. My last visit I had a bone-in filet. My better-half had a sirloin. Both were cooked to perfect. We shared a Caesar salad with the house dressing and a baked potato the size of a small pumpkin, accompanied by the home-made bread. Moe picked a glass of wine for me which held up very well to the beef. I simply can not praise the meal enough. Even better he was genuinely concerned we had a great dining experience - and believe me we are nobodies and there was nothing in it for him to show interest in our meal. I judge a restaurant by its cleanliness, service and taste. Prime hits the mark across the board. I can genuinely say I have never had a better steak in my decades of life on the planet. By fine dining / quality steak house it is a deal on price as the quality of the experience is excellent. read more

I stopped at Omaha Prime on my way through town to experience some famous Omaha steaks. My experience here was thoroughly disappointing. I ordered a bone in ribeye cooked medium, and it was the driest and toughest steak I have ever eaten. This was probably due to the fact that the ribeye was so thin. I have never seen a bone in ribeye that was about an inch or less thick. I wish I would have seen the size of their ribeyes, but the waitress did not show me their food display cart. The only reason I know they had a cart is because after I ordered, I saw her show the cart to every subsequent table she was serving. I would highly advise trying another restaurant if you're looking to experience a true Omaha steak. I expected better food, service, and experience and they fell short in every aspect. read more

I should have listened to the average score Yelp reviews before spending big money on a dinner for two here with my wife. The steaks are top-notch Nebraska corn fed cuts. We had a little issue with the prime rib itself. Mine was ordered 12oz with bone, medium rare. Hers, 8oz without bone medium. They mixed that part up so I was served a $45 steak cooked beyond my wishes. Her $40 steak was undercooked. Shouldn't happen at a premium steakhouse. Normally I'd return the steaks but we waited too long for the meal so we just swapped plates. The steaks were quite good but the long wait and cooking debacle left me disappointed. Steaks served on barely warm plates too? Not especially hot upon arrival? The restaurant was unusually quiet for 8pm on a Saturday. That's a second red flag I ignored. M's Pub across the street was full so we came to Omaha Prime because it was quieter we didn't want to wait. Honestly, we should have spent half as much and had a better meal at M's. The dining area upstairs is not visible from the entry and far less elegant than the $160 price-range commands. Most of the guests wore jeans and t-shirts, tennis shoes, you get the picture? The sports bar crowd. Not a Prime experience for a town known for great steakhouses. Too bad! They have a great location and undoubtedly better meat than you're run of the mill chain steakhouse. We enjoyed the cart with meat display/presentation before ordering. Just, the server should explain with some level of enthusiasm why the meat they select is better than most? Looked good though. Left me confused as the disinterested server seemed to rush through his script. Poor guy. The ambiance of the first floor lobby/bar area is somewhere between creepy ghost town and what the heck? They're wasting this space and turning off window shoppers. Should have wine tasting or something else going on downstairs. Anything really? Went here with a large group of people. The service was great. Food was good, but considering the price, it was just ok. The ambiance is also a bit odd. It's supposed to be super classy - which service matches etc, but the actual furniture/fixtures in the restaurant seem a bit dated. There are many cuts of steak to choose from, and the server describes each piece before you order. Sides such as potato, salads etc are ordered separately. Food itself was good, but nothing crazy special. For the amount of money you have to pay, the food should be downright delicious. Too expensive for the medium to low quality 2. We sent back one steak because it was undercooked 3. My tomato onion salad was just that and could have been made at home. 4. Nice waiter but medium-slow service. 5. Bread was basic (grocery store) and not very warm. I said a few times during dinner that they must be paying a lofty lease, because the building is in a good location and they are on the second floor - but the decor leaves something to be desired. The owner of Omaha Prime, Mo, was the absolute nicest person I met in my week in Omaha. That's saying a good bit considering I met a lot of new friends while I was there for the CWS. Mo went out of his way to accommodate me and it will never be forgotten. I had the Filet Mignon with a side of rice. The steak was amazing and cooked perfectly. This was the best food I had the whole trip and the best steak I've had ever. I mainly ate in the Old Market area where many other great restaurants are located but Omaha Prime was the best experience and food. The next time LSU is in the CWS and I get lucky enough to take the time off to be there, I will be headed back to Omaha Prime. I think I'll try the Ribeye next time. read more

We hosted a Rehearsal Dinner as a private event for 80 guests at Omaha Prime. We were coming in from Louisiana, so all of the planning and conversations were handled over the phone. Steve was incredible to work with! He guided us through the menu, bar and floor plan for our event effortlessly. The venue is lovely and there were so many beautiful spots for photos. Steve allowed us to come in and set up our place cards and florals on our time frame and bent over backwards to get us whatever was needed. He even arranged for the audio/visual equipment that we needed for toasts! The food was fantastic! steaks were cooked perfectly and start to finish the meal was delicious! The staff members were delightful and efficient! They were quick to grab coats, refill drinks and bus tables as needed. We were so pleased with the entire evening, and with the planning process from 16 hours away! Could not have been a better evening. read more

This place is great. We arrived later in the evening on a Wednesday night. The owner Mo greeted us and made us feel at home. We took the owners recommendations on entrees and sides and all were fabulous. We are from South Orange County California and are used to fine dining and often times are disappointed when we eat in "fine dining" resturants out of town. This time we were not. My husband I went here for the first time because of the good reviews. We were baffled. The hostess barely looked at us and seemed pissy about being at work. She vaguely gestured us to our table and quickly walked off. We watched her seat every table like this. Very bizarre. No smile, no eye contact. Our waiter also did not seem pleased to see us, vaguely told us what the specials were, and never checked in. The steak was good, which is why this is not a one star review. Altough, the garnish was....a raw piece of kale and a raw circle sliced carrot? What? Are we at the Sizzler? The entire vibe was off in this restaurant. You cant compete with the upper end steak houses in Omaha like this. I sure hope they can address these issues and stay in business as they have been around Omaha for 25 years and would like to see them thrive. There is also NO WAY this was a College World Series Crowd issue, as they take reservations and it was not a busy crowd at all. Even if a restaurant is having a bad night, or understaffed, if you have good people that can smile and show you a good time, I let everything slide! I have NEVER left a bad review for any restaurant before. Hoping they see this and make some staffing changes. I do believe ATTITUDE and ATMOSPHERE goes a long way.
