Had a great time with the staff!

Excellent Staff, the food is outstanding, the size of the place makes it very friendly. The hostess as so helpful and happy, the Chef was wonderful and witty. And the flavors are to die for. Great place for lunch or dinner!

Very nice lunch set offered from 12 - 2:30. Great quality for the price. Service was amazing. The staff and chef were very kind and attentive.

I always try to do an omakase when I'm in New York, and Omakase Osukaa popped up on Yelp as one conveniently located in Midtown East (a lot of the omakases I was initially considering were located in East Village). I booked the lunch omakase on Resy, which is $48 for 10 courses (before tax and tip). There's also a 13-course option for $79. Note: If there is a cancellation/change/no-show within 12 hours of your dining time, you will be charged a $50 fee per person on the reservation - so be sure to show-up! My reservation was for 1:15pm. The counter was about half-filled when I got seated. I was seated at the far corner and didn't really have a good view of the chef/action. I like how they have staggered start times to give you more scheduling flexibility, but I think it takes away from the counter experience of watching and interacting with the chef. Once I was seated, the hostess activated a magical moist towelette to cleanse my hands before the meal. The meal is still primarily eaten with chopsticks, but there is a hand roll provided as the last course (but it's always good to wash up before eating regardless). She checked if I had any food allergies, took my order for drinks, and explained the course options. Between the 10- and 13-course meal, I opted for the 10. For each course, the chef would walk over, place it on my serving plate on the high counter, and then I had to clunkily transfer the piece to my own plate. The chef would also describe what it was as he put it down, but he was very soft spoken, so sometimes it was hard to hear him. Other omakases that I've been to have had the chef more seamlessly transfer the piece directly to your serving plate or hand, and have also provided more visual cues (such as a board or printed menu) to guide you through the meal. The meal was served quickly, but without feeling at a rushed pace. When I was served the final course (a hand roll), I was surprised that we were on the last one already. I especially liked the hand roll for the crispy rice inside which gave it some extra texture. I enjoyed the omakase overall. There were some unique bites and lovely little enhancements such as foie gras, truffle, caviar, and wagyu, but I felt like the experience was lacking since the chef stood distantly and kept to himself. I also thought that the penultimate course (a toast) had an overlapping flavor profile with its predecessor, which felt repetitive. I liked Omakase Osukaa for its quality and affordability, but it doesn't quite stand out to me as a favorite amongst the numerous omakases in Manhattan.

Amazing selection of sushi! All the fish were fresh and tasted amazing! You can also order more of your favorite course at the end. The dessert was simple, sweet and delightful. It complimented the whole meal nicely.

Loved loved loved this quick and yummy lunch omakase! They have a great lunch deal of $48 for 10 pieces. The quality of the fish is great, and you can order more pieces à la carte if you're still hungry. The interior is super clean and classic Japanese chic. Most of the nigiri are balanced well flavor-wise, and my favorite piece was the foie gras on salmon--it was the perfect combo of two types of richness. Service was attentive, and my water was constantly being topped off and full.

Initially, I popped in for their lunch omakase (10-course for 50) but ended up trying their 13-course omakase for 79, which came with more premium cuts. The omakase went pretty quickly -- I was in-and-out with 50 minutes. The sushi chef explained each course to me and answered any questions I had. I didn't feel like I had to wait too long in between each one. The 13-course was a perfect amount of food during lunch time. They use fresh and high-quality fish/seafood for each piece. My favorites were the following: * Wild Spotted Shrimp (Botan Ebi) - The shrimp was sweet and creamy, the texture easily melted in my mouth. * King Salmon with Foie Gras - Good cut of salmon and the foie gras made it extra creamy * Hokkaido Scallop (Hotate) - Fresh scallop with some yuzu topped on, which made a good combination * Seared otoro? with caviar, uni, and gold flakes - Expensive bite that was creamy, rich, earthy, and fatty. Lots of expensive flavors going around. * Hokkaido Sea Urchin (Uni) - Creamy and fresh, it melted in my mouth easily. I enjoyed the yellowtail, but didn't like the pickled? topping that had a weird flavor I didn't like. Everything else was good, but not the most memorable. Overall, this was a pretty average/good omakase experience. The dessert at the end was a nice touch. It's a pricy option for lunch, so I'd recommend the 10-course moving forward.

Our first experience with Omakase was very pleasant. The restaurant is small, the seating option is limited to the bar, it's small, quaint and comfortable. Sam, our sushi chef was fantastic. I did the 13 course & my boyfriend had the 17 course. I felt satisfied with my choice, it was a reasonable amount of food. Of course, if you don't like raw food, this won't be up your alley. The seafood is flown fresh from Japan, top quality, never frozen. The nigiri preparation was creative & super tasty. My favorite was the salmon with truffle. You can do your numbered tasting and then add on more items to your liking. James, our server was very knowledgeable about the sake choices and gave us a great recommendation. The best thing about the experience was that considering the typical cost of the Omakase experience, this restaurant was a great value for the experience.

    Vivian Y.

I had a great experience here for their 10-course lunch omakase for $48. The service was great and the food was wonderful. I had told James that I had a short lunch that day and he made sure that my entire omakase would fit within my timeframe. All 10 pieces were fresh and delicious. Plus the location is great and all the staff were very accommodating and friendly - I would definitely recommend this place!

We went for lunch coz it's close to my friend's workplace. There's a lunch set (I believe it's available at lunch only) that's below $50 for 10 pieces of nigiri, we opted for that coz we didn't have a lot of time and 10 pieces sound just right for lunch. This place is similar to many other omakase places in the city - Chinese-run and/or the chefs are Chinese, which is fine by me as long as the quality is good. The fish used was fresh, and our chef was very efficient. The set price is unbeatable considering its location, and when compared to similar places in the area, it offers an even more affordable option. The only thing is it'd be great if they also include a small dessert at the end of the meal. I understand they're trying to keep the set cost down, but even a small scoop of ice cream / a mochi would make the whole experience better. It's also because other omakase places offer that so it's kind of expected.

New Omakase spot! Located conveniently near Grand Central Station for commuters and locals alike. Large sushi counter in the center room, 3 sides of the bar with ample seating. Affordable prices, good quality fish packed with flavor and toppings that do not overpower the fish. The rice was seasoned well and temperature was perfect. Liquor license is pending. The service was friendly and the staff was attentive. Reservations can be made on RESY. Overall, another spot not to be missed! Lunch: $48 - 10 courses Dinner: $79 - 13pcs course $109 -17pcs course

Chef Steven is an inspired culinary artist for an epic omakase sushi experience. We had a really lovely and personal experience tonight. The foie gras salmon sushi was so tasty and i loved the tuna with flower mushroom. What delighted us was the interesting flavor pairings. And i ve already been to Tokyo twice this year yet its in New York that i find this combination, warmth and hospitality and a touch of Fun. Tell me when you go and I will come over and gawk! What a treat for us

    Jessica T.

Simply sublime. I come here once a week without fail--it's become a sacred ritual. I absolutely love the team, the chef, and everyone who makes this place so special. The quality of the sushi is consistently outstanding--fresh, delicate, and full of flavor. Every piece is a work of art, both in taste and in presentation. If you haven't been yet, please do yourself a favor and go. It's an experience that stays with you.

Great quality for the price. We opted for the 17-course menu and were very satisfied. I was very impressed that even the condiments/supporting ingredients were the "real deal." The restaurant is super spacious (unlike most omakase places I've been to), and the service was very attentive. Highly recommend!

To drink, I had a Hot Organic Super Matcha Tea for 4.95. It was alright tea, and I wish teas were included in the price point, as otherwise, this place feels pretty traditional. In terms of food, I only ordered from the seasonal menu, so I'm not sure how the rest of the dishes are, but from what I had, I would go back for a light traditional meal. My appetizer was the Dashimaki Tamago/だし巻まき卵たま, or sweet savory omelet with daikon for $6.98. This came with three pieces along with a little dollop of grated radish. The pieces had a light sweetness to them along with a bit of savoriness. They were juicy and a bit bouncy while maintaining some softness. This was standard and good. My main dish was the $19.98 Beef Tan Tan Udon, or ground sirloin beef, spicy broth, baby bok choy, kikurage mushroom, scallions, and sesame seeds. While I have preferred udon from spots like Raku, the udon had a mild chew to it, and they were still good. The broth had a mix of sweetness and spiciness with a nice depth of flavor. The vegetables inside tasted fresh, and the meat added some richness. This was good as well. I wouldn't recommend going out of your way to go here, but the food was good. If you're in the area and looking for no frills Japanese dining in a more comfortable atmosphere at pretty decent Midtown East prices, I would recommend this place.

We got: - Fried oysters: the batter was light and crispy and oysters piping hot - Vinegared Mackerel w/ Ponzu Sauce: fresh & tangy - Intestines Hotpot: comforting & light despite the fattiness of the intestines - Creamed Mentai Udon: they split it in 2 small bowls for us since we were sharing. Udon had a nice bouncy chew and sauce was not heavy We also got a bottle of sake, and they poured it in a beautiful sake decanter to keep it cold. First time seeing cold sake presented this way which was very cool. We tried Suntory draft beer since that was the only draft they had, which was odd since most Japanese places carry Asahi/Sapporo, definitely not as light as the other two beers I'm used to. Even though I was stuffed by the end, I didn't feel lethargic, everything felt light without compromising flavor. Service was attentive although our udon came at the very end, we thought they had forgot about it.

There are a few restaurants in NYC that make you feel like you are stepping into a Japan portal,…read moreand Okatte Tanto is no doubt one of those. As you step into the restaurant, you immediately feel a sense of formality and strictness. It's also very quiet in the restaurant, and friendly to solo diners, adding on more to the Japan-esque feel. The food is high quality here, but the portions are small, and it is pricey. I would budget to spend around $100 a person here after tip and tax, if you ignore the prices on the menu and try a variety of things. The tuna from the bone is the most famous dish here, but I was not able to get it as they sell out very fast. But I tried the sashimi and it was high quality -- just that it was not enough food for me. But that makes it more in line with portions back in Japan. They have an extensive sake list and they also have the casual cocktail options like lemon drops you would find in Tokyo. The atmosphere really transports you straight into Japan if that is something you are looking for. Expect to pay a premium for small-ish portions, but at the same time very well-made and authentic food.
