Ray saved us. We contacted several plumbers to help us install a water heater in Communications Hill. Our water heater was located on the third floor and nobody wanted the job or quoted us an insanely expensive quote. My last review for On Demand Waters was July of 2011 (see that review). My water heater went out on a Tuesday evening last week, I had not talked to Ray since 2011. I texted him, he got back to me and said he could be out in the morning to check to be sure it was not just a part that he could just replace. He and his brother (Kimi), came out and decided the entire water heater needed to be replaced. They had another person in line to replace their heater, so they fixed that and they went out, picked up the new heater, installed it for a very reasonable cost in a very timely manner. I used On Demand Water Heater to service my Tankless Water Heater. Ray (company owner) came out to service the unit. The problem was not resolved. After countless text and phone calls, he finally came out again to look at the problem. Today, after several months later, the problem still continues even after I personally call the the company the make the water heater and filed a report. Ray said the he called them, but it turns out that he never did. Very dishonest person. He never called me back even though he said he would. DO NOT use them. I paid $240 for nothing. Unfortunately I can't comment on the quality of the work of On Demand Water Heaters because I can't even get an estimate to replace my tank water heater with a tankless unit. Twice I had a set day and time window for them to come over to give an estimate and both times they were a no-show! I realize that with the trades that unexpected issues can easily arise causing them to be late or to even miss an appointment. But, this has now happened twice and neither time did they call to let me know they would be late or even a call afterwards to try to reschedule. So I've now taken time from my schedule twice to make sure that I'm home during the window (they gave me a one hour window) just to be stood up. To me this shows that they don't have any respect for my time! I'm glad I found out how unreliable they are before I hired them! It doesn't matter how good they are or how little they charge. If you can't depend on them to even arrive then they're no good as a contractor. read more

Raymond is nice but not reliable. It wasn't too bad when he replaced my tankless water heater, but he took almost 2 months to install my whole house water softener, after taking $1800 up front. He repeatedly misses appointments and does not return calls or texts. Two months after install, I still don't have my receipt, despite his promise to drop it off. Lost hot water on Monday night and contacted Ray, who has maintained out Navian system for years. On Tuesday Ran said he could probably got over later. Wednesday I trued to call and text, I would have had a better results sending a carrier pigeon or smoke signals. Found someone else on the Navien site late Wednesday who was her the next day and put in a complete new system. Ray at On Demand has always been tough to get scheduled, I can accept that. But you don't ignore a customer. Time to loose Ray phone number. I advise you to look elsewhere for services. read more

My Navien tankless water heater stopped working when we reset it works and we notice water dripping from the unit so I search on yelp and found this On-Demand Water heater repair I notice he is close to the area so I contacted them. He came out to diagnose then said this unit might still cover under warranty, but in the meantime just leave the cover open and we can still use it and put the bucket down below the unit to catch dripping water, he will contact Navien and get back to us. After weeks went by without any word we contacted him and were told the unit is covered under warranty (Not the whole unit just the whole part inside without the cover) and the labor cost would be $500, we agreed to pay for it. He scheduled and came to replace it, everything works for a week then it stop working and we had to reset it, again and again, also the unit leaked (the same problem when we first called for service). We contacted On-Demand-Water Heater, he came back to fix it then 1 week later, we have the same problem. We contacted him and this time he no longer picks up our calls but still replies to our texts and schedules multiple times but never showed up. Given it is close to Thanksgiving holiday we think he must be busy so we wait until after the holiday, we called and now he does not pick up our call then I use a different number to contact him and he picked up and again schedules a time to come out and again it's a no show. We texted him and said he had wasted so much of our time and the reply was so sincere I will come anytime today on your availability. We told him to just schedule whenever at his convenience we do not want him to go out of his way as gas is expensive so he again scheduled and never came. Each and every time he leaves he said to call him when the problem occurs. At this point, I accept that he cannot do anything with this unit besides giving ghost appointments. read more

Raymond did a great job for me handling the warranty replacement of my first-generation Grandhall Eternal water heater. He was extremely knowledgeable about the product and did a fantastic job expediting the warranty claim and replacement even though I didn't originally purchase the unit or install through On Demand Water Heaters. The re-install of the updated wall-mounted unit was performed perfectly. It was impressive that he even could recognize the work of the company that did my original install (I wasn't impressed with them). They are a smaller operation and I did experience Ray getting hung up on a job that had complications, but he was communicative and apologetic. The great pricing, knowledge, and overall courteousness more than made up for the fact that you're not dealing with a company with a fleet of trucks and plumbers. read more

Is no service worse than bad service? Ray promised to replace a pump for me a week ago and said he would do it on Sunday since it was a bit of an emergency. He did not show or call and did not respond to several phone and text messages. When he finally got back to me by text 2 days later he said he expected to get the job done by Tuesday. Raymond did a really good job by replacing my gas pipes. His initial estimate was free and he gave me reasonable price. I was a little bit concerned with 2 unanswered phone calls after initial estimate and rescheduling the job. However after that everything went quite well. He replaced all my gas pipes and tried to find gas leaks in process. He was really helpful by answering all my questions (I am do it yourself guy). I would recommend him to all my friends. I can only give 3 stars based on my recent experiences. It's tough to get a hold of Raymond (the owner) - but usually he replies to text messages either early am or late pm. But more often than not he gets back last minute saying something came up and he's not able to come on the agreed upon day. He recently fixed my Eternal hybrid which had a leak, but unknowingly (I'll give him that credit) installed a valve with brittle O-rings inside since it had been sitting on his shelf for years. Since it was too hard to find a time for him to come out again and fix it I located some YouTube videos and ended up fixing it myself. Next the burner showed error codes, and yet again trying to find a time for him to come out was very tough, especially since I have to give advanced notice at work on when I need to put in a work-from-home day. Then again, last minute I either hear back that he has a schedule conflict and can't make it, or the parts he planned to swap out went bad (due to limited shelf life again I assume). Given all the rescheduling it would have been nice to learn about this earlier, then I would not have had to request a day off in the first place. If Raymond does show up he is a pleasure to work with, with very reasonable pricing. But scheduling is the challenge... hope it gets better from here. read more

Raymond has helped us out of a sticky situation twice now. We have an Eternal tankless water heater, first time I had a problem I found out the company went bankrupt. I've had other plumbers out here to help, they know nothing about them and just guess at the problem (and almost broke it). On Demand Water may have the best prices, however their customer service with regard to follow up leaves a lot to be desired. Called to make an appointment to get an estimate on installing an Eternal Tankless Water Heater. It took 2 days to get a call back ... When I spoke with Raymond, he explained the differences between the water heaters we were considering (Noritz vs Eternal). He asked some specifics about the installation, he was willing able able to estimate the installation over the phone ... and yes, compared to the the other quotes we received he did have a (slightly) better price and he said that he would send us a written estimate via email. When we didn't get the written estimate by the end of the week, I called Raymond again and he said that he was busy and that he hadn't had a chance to write it up and promised to have it to us by the weekend. The weekend had come and gone. My husband made a call to Raymond and left a message asking him to send us the written estimate. After the initial phone call in late March, we still have not received a written estimate from On Demand Water Heaters. In my opinion, On Demand Water Heaters over promises and under delivers. Note: We decided to have BG Plumbing install our tankless water heater, Tsanko, the owner has been patient, accommodating and flexible with us through this process. read more

We called Ray yesterday about our suddenly-broken water heater and had an estimate within an hour (and $1500 less than the other estimate we got). Ray came out today and arrived right when he said he would. Now a few hours later we have a much more efficient on-demand heater; and it's properly installed - which the first one never was. I can't say enough about the service and quality of work that I received from Raymond and his crew. I wanted to replace my old gas water heater with a new on demand type. Ran into Raymond at the San Jose Home Show. He was the only contractor there that did not pressure me to make a choice on the spot. Called him several weeks later to talk about the hybrid Eternal heater. He came out that night to take a look at the location and firm up an estimate. Not only did he honor the Home Show discount, but he added in larger gas line knowing that we were getting ready to remodel in our kitchen. My tankless water heater stopped working and I called the manufacturer to have it fixed. But, I was given the run around and after a couple days of getting no where with them, I called On Demand Water Heaters. Ray is awesome! He explained how these water heaters work, as well as how manufacturers can give a run around. He advocated on my behalf with that company to no avail, but A for effort, and at that point I just wanted a different brand anyways. The next day he came to install the new water heater, and had my house running with hot water again in no time. He was knowledgeable and gave me an excellent rate. They helped my select a water heater a few years back and were great about the installation which included running a new gas pipe as well to feed the tankless system. They were professional, neat, and knowledgable. Loved it! The heater has been wonderful. We never run out of hot water. These heaters are pretty high tech and there have been a couple of upgrades which to the credit of both the factory and On Demand were on the house. He was great up until he got paid and then decided he didn't need to show up anymore to fix a leak from the water softener he installed. Gave him 2 weeks to make good on his endless promises to show up and fix it. Each time he would either flake the day of or just not show up. I don't recommend unless you like feeling frustrated and have lots of free time to kill waiting for someone who never shows up. read more

A concrete contractor moved my 1-year-old electric water heater to put a new slab in my garage. It did not work after putting it back. I spent a lot of time on the phone with my go-to plumber who ultimately referred me to an electrician who came out and pointed me back to a plumber. After 9 days of back and forth without hot water, I found Ray. In 5 minutes over the phone, Ray told me exactly what was wrong and what the fix would be. He came out the next morning and replaced the burned-out part in under 45 minutes and got everything working for $250 (parts and labor). He displayed his Hawaiian heritage of kindness and humility throughout and explained everything to me so I literally 'know' all about how electric water heaters operate and how to prevent the problem in the future by properly draining and restarting water heaters. 5 stars for service/knowledge and 10 stars for being a great human being. read more

After some verbal trouble shooting, he was willing to walk me through a couple of things to try before he made the service call. AVOID THIS BUSINESS!!! Ray disappears for days on end and will not return phone calls or texts. On top of that, he misses scheduled appointments with no call or acknowledgment. Ray is not dependable. Had him replaced a valve in the water heater that leaks at the condensate outlet. Paid him and still problem was't solved and called him to come back to fix it. Appointment made a few days later for 9 am in the morning but he never showed up. I called him on his cell , said he will come . By 2pm I texted him again, no reply. Tried calling him, no response. I waited for him whole day. Finally, he never showed up. The next day I got hold of him. He gave me a lame excuse of poor cell reception.I know that at a job unexpected things might happen and hold you up. But if my appointment is at 9 am and when I called him when he did not show up, he asked me for my address again. Sounds like he did not even care about my appointment made. Should have checked Yelp earlier as reviews seems similar with other customers. Stay away from this guy. Really, really unreliable.!! read more

He made sure the area was clean after the installation and took away all debris. He made sure all work met the current code and verified the unit is functioning properly before he left. I had a water heater problem on Monday with no hot water in the house and on inspection I found a slight leak under the tank. I was unable to ignite the pilot. I shut the water for the heater to dry up. Later that night - well past midnight I did a Craigslist search and hit upon Raymond. He picked up the phone, asked me questions and then recommended a heater change. His rates for new heater (Bradford and White) were very competitive. He included all the supplies and taxes as a complete package. I kept scouring 'yelp' and 'cg list' and based on speaking with many plumbers (both licensed and unlicensed) I didn't find anyone honest and accommodating as Raymond. He came in about 2 hours later than the expected time, but his work was extremely professional, talked and explained why he was doing what he was doing and was done in less than 1.5 hours. The entire 40Gal heater with all connections, installations, haul away and a drip tray was $700!!! I will recommend him to anybody, any day. read more

Ray was very knowledgeable and helped us make a good decision on which new on-demand heater to get. His estimate was very reasonable. When the system could not get here before the weekend he put in a temporary system in the rain so that I could have hot water for no extra charge. He went above and beyond for my family.
