My tankless water heater was four months out of warranty, and I had three other plumbers come out who all recommended the same thing: replace the entire unit. Their estimates ranged from 6,500 to 8,000. I was telling this story to a friend and they immediately said, "Call Steve at SPS." So I did. I spoke with Steve and Vanessa, and from the start they were calm, confident, and reassuring. They told me not to worry and that they could take care of it without replacing the unit. Instead of many thousands of dollars, their quote came in at under $500 total for parts and labor. They ordered the parts, kept everything moving, and scheduled the repair for the day after the parts arrived. Ruben from SPS did the work, super friendly, very professional, and he knocked the whole job out quickly. Everything was clean, efficient, and clearly done by someone who knows exactly what they're doing. Just sharing our experience with SPS Plumbing: Our AO Smith water heater kept showing the same error code and in order to get it fixed under warranty we were given three companies. SPS Plumbing had the most respectful reception lady answer the phone so we went with them. A technician came out a week later for a water heater diagnosis for $260. According to the water heater manual and having already called AO Smith directly, I told the technician there might've been something wrong with the gas valve. So the technician called AO Smith and ordered a replacement gas valve part. Meanwhile we were advised to just keep resetting the water heater since it would still heat up the water until the error code popped on again. It took 3 weeks for them to come out again with the shipped part and charged us another $260 for installation. Unfortunately the problem wasn't fixed and the heater started showing a different error code. Called SPS to let them know what happened and talked to the boss Steve who made me feel like an idiot about any research that I've done related to the error codes and this water heater. He said my analysis wasn't accurate and based on his years of experience that there's most likely too much sediment built up inside the tank and that it needed to be completely drained. I didn't agree, so they ended up sending out the same technician and came up with a new diagnosis saying the exhaust pipe most likely had water piled up inside at the 90 degree angle bend and it would cost me $440 for them to bring out their "special camera equipment" to inspect inside the pipe. It was getting to be ridiculous and it felt like they were trying to squeeze as much money out as they could before they deemed my case an unsolvable case. I called AO Smith directly again to see what they thought. They told me they don't think there's anything wrong with the exhaust pipe and said possibly there's a problem with the water heater blower since I clearly heard and video taped clicking sounds coming from the top of the water heater after the gas valve replacement was done (to which the SPS technician told us that the water heater company doesn't send out replacements for the blower -- but he was wrong and apologized later because I told him AO Smith was going to ship the replacement blower for me). The replacement part arrived directly at my house within 3 days and I didn't want to have SPS Plumbing come out again just to replace another part and probably get charged another $260. The AO Smith receptionist told me it's fairly simple to switch out the blower, so my husband watched some videos and replaced it on his own and now there's no more water heater problems! As the saying goes: "fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me." Conclusion: Unfortunately we didn't have the best experience with SPS Plumbing but hope that future customers have better outcomes with them. Ruben the technician is very kind and understanding. What a difference a day makes! We were referred to a different plumbing company through our home warranty that was incredibly disrespectful and incompetent when it came to simply fixing a clog under our kitchen sink. We were told nothing could be done because the pipes were not able to be accessed by the other company. This is our go-to plumbing company. It always consistent service - on time and good quality. This time we asked them to replace two faucets in the bathroom. After giving us an estimate technician came on time and worked on the faucets for couple of hours. The problem was that due to hard water calcification it was impossible to disassemble them even after he cut one of the off. It really needed two people - one to hold it below the counter and another working above. This exactly what they did. Another appointment was scheduled and this time things went as expected. We now have great looking bathroom again. Even it took way more time that estimated they stick with original estimate. They cleaned up very nicely all areas they worked in. Even resealed the sink without us asking. Overall it was another excellent job. Highly recommend this company. read more

When my nearly new hybrid heat pump water heater recently failed unexpectedly I called one of the three plumbing companies serving Sunnyvale who were specifically authorized by the manufacturer to service their water heaters. The company I chose was SPS Plumbing, and I couldn't be happier with their service. Everyone at SPS was very helpful and friendly. Starting with Vanessa, who answers the phone at the office, and who sets up appointments and does all the admin stuff. The person who came to my house was Reuben, who quickly diagnosed the problem and obtained the authorization from the manufacturer to replace the entire water heater. Rueben was very professional and courteous, and he clearly answered all my questions. Reuben also put my water heater in electric-only mode so that I would continue to have hot water while waiting for the replacement water heater to be ordered and delivered. I didn't know it was even possible to switch from heat pump mode to electric only mode and therefore to continue to have hot water even though the heat pump mode of the water heater was totally inoperative. Once the replacement water heater was delivered, Reuben and the owner of SPS Plumbing, Steve, came to install it. Once again, Reuben and Steve were once again, professional, efficient and courteous. Steve helped me remove some valuable spare parts from the defective water heater and he advised me how best to maintain the water heater annually by draining and flushing, cleaning the filter, and even removing and cleaning the two heating elements if I wanted to do that task myself. Or he told me SPS offers an annual service if I didn't want to do those things by myself. Teaching me how to do it was very generous of them. I would happily use SPS Plumbing again. Our Takagi tankless water heater stopped working on a fine morning 1 week back. I spoke with Vanessa at SPS the same day and she managed to get someone to look at the issue within 2 days. The technician John quickly root-caused the issue, spoke with AO Smith (service provider), and got us a full unit replacement for free. Before the week ended Vanessa ensured to place an order for our heater and got us an appointment today (1 week since the problem happened). My AO Smith water heater had a scary fire hazard issue which was luckily covered under a recall. SPS Plumbing was one of the two authorized plumbers for repairs, I contacted them last week. Throughout the process I was happy with the responsiveness from this professional company. They have an organized process with intake questionnaire, from which they schedule appointments. They send texts and emails to for scheduled appointments, as well as reminders one day before. I was also pleasantly surprised to receive a text on the day of appointment indicating Reuben was on his way - again, great process and communication. Reuben showed up on time within the two hour window provided. He was very knowledgeable about the recall problem and went to work right away. After he finished the repair - which was a faulty parts replacement - he showed me the failed part and explained why the issue was happening. I appreciated that he took the time to educate me. On top of his professional knowledge, Reuben has a calm and friendly personality. I also asked Reuben a question on something unrelated to the repair, to which he answered with great detail. I ordered the tankless water heater from SPS in 2021, they didn't follow the user manual and wrongly installed the remote controller outdoor under direct sunlight. I pointed out the issue and they came back fixed the mistake. However, they want to charge me additional labor cost for fixing that mistake. I discussed with them right away in March 2021 and I believe the case was closed. But all of sudden after one year in 2022, they hired a debt collection company to chase the additional labor cost from me. I tried to reach out to them and they said they will call back, but never called back. I provided all the evidences to debt collection company and they also chose to ignore those facts. This company will scam you! They will charge you for anything and everything. $220 per hour and that's not even including the service... that's just for the plumber's time... even if the plumber did absolutely nothing. I have a problem with my water heater and it sounds and looks like it is leaking. Sizzling by the burner and not producing hot water. So I call the manufacturer and they give me a few contacts of plumbing companies in the area that will work under warranty. Plumber arrives and tries to convince me that the water heater is fine and the issue is the venting. Wait what?!?! I can clearly see and hear there is something wrong with the heater... Pilot was fine... I previously emptied the tank to see if sediment had a factor but the water came out clear. So the plumber and his boss suggests that I need to re-vent the whole unit. Which didn't make any sense at the time but they're playing their games. I still have a leaking water heater and this company is trying to charge me a ridiculous amount for this plumber driving to my location and give me wrong information that would've costed me a lot more money. If I agreed to their "suggestions" I'd be paying them hundreds to re-vent the unit to end up still with a broken water heater. They are upset at me for making this an issue and threatening me that they will send the invoice to collections. Am I wrong here? Look, they're highly rated so I'm sure their other jobs go well but I was a warranty job... I don't know if that makes a difference but if you're calling for a warranty, save yourself time, money, stress and do not call these guys. Update I just got a second opinion from another plumber and they said it's 100% a leak. I will be getting a brand new replacement all under warranty. Thanks SPS for a giving me that experience. After a terrible visit by Gladiator plumbing, who obviously did not seem to know what they were doing, charged more than peers, and wouldn't honor the Friday/Saturday service. SPS was recommended to me as by my normal plumber, to fix my tankless Noritz heater. Steve came to my place on Friday and obviously knew what he was doing. He rebuilt the unit with the parts from Noritz (under warrantee) and we tried to fire up, but one component was stopping progress. (Noritz's fault, as they should have replaced the fan motor and circuit board). We were stopped with cold water after 5 days, no end in site.
