I've come here multiple times before just because it is so close to the house and EVERY TIME it is a huge disappointment. I don't know why, but tonight we made the mistake of coming here again. Bartender "Rachel" is the rudest, most unprofessional bartender I have come across. She asked the group I was with (5 people total) for our ID's as we are sitting 5 feet away. You would think on a non-busy night she can come up to the table we are sitting at and ask us for our ID's as we had no problem showing her. My friend decided to go up to the bar and give them all of our ID's which she could see all of our faces as we are very close to the bar. We are all between 24-25. Like I said EVERY-TIME I COME HERE. My husband and I have been coming in for several years. The bartenders are all super friendly and service has always been prompt. The food was a surprise to us how good it is. The fried shrimp and cocktail sauce are one of my faves. But we've enjoyed many items over the years. They have steak nights and my son begs to join us especially during crawfish season. The crowd is family friendly before 9:30pm or so. Fun place to play pool or catch a game. I also like that they have Tuchtunes! There is a smoking and non-smoking side of the business, but it hasn't been a bother to us non-smokers. It's kept very clean! read more

Tried the crawfish here based off of a few good reviews on a local facebook group. $6.99/lb was cheaper than most places and the size was great for being so early in the season. They were also cooked really well and came right out of the shell; however, there was literally no flavor. i had to drown it in butter and cajun seasoning to eat the 4lbs i had ordered to go. it was their last batch of the night so maybe it was just a fluke but i don't plan on coming back. read more

Entered here late, so we shut the place down, after paying my tab i walked out and the manager locked the door behind me...I recalled leaving my s21 Ultra ($1200) phone on the table, i know i did cause i use a pocket on the back of my phone for my CC. Manager would not let me back in, so i called the police to enter for me...THEY CLAIM the phone was no where to be found! How odd, I just walked outside. The next morning my wife's phone was ringing from MY phone..A very kind man from trugreen lawn care claimed he found it on the side of the road off of cypress rose hill. so the on the rox employee that picked up my phone from the table decided to throw it out the window instead of returning my phone while i stood outside for an hour for the police to investigate, costing me over $300 to repair the glass. wait staff should be looking out for people not taking advantage of them...will never step foot in here again! read more

DISHONEST TO GO FOOD PRACTICES- RIP OFF REPORT This is my go to bar for darts and cold beer one to three times a week. The staff here knows my name and brings my drink to the table as soon as I walk in the door, I never even have to go up to the bar. They also have the cheapest crawfish in town at $3.99 per pound. It's not the best but is decent. I've purchased crawfish to go here many times without a problem as well as bringing my family to eat dinner in house frequently. Today however I came in person, ordered a drink and tried to purchase 10 pounds of crawfish to go, I was told by the very embarrassed waitressed that the manager insisted that crawfish to go was now $5.99 per pound. No signs or otherwise posted material to Advertise the price I understand that bars make their money particularly with dishes such as crawfish, by the alcohol ordered while eating however, as a regular patron to this establishment, I feel pretty ripped off. The bartenders and wait staff that work here are great, but management needs to realize that there are many many other choices for patrons in this area for happy hour and weekend entertainment etc. For example Tick's Tavern, just a few miles down the road, is a really cute ice house with an impressive beer selection and full bar. They don't serve food but the place is extremely laid-back and will allow you to order food from anywhere you'd like and have it delivered. They also have an open air atmosphere which On the Rox's lacks. (not to mention darts are cheaper there!!!) TO MANAGEMENT: In short, I understand supply and demand, but take care of your regulars or they will not be regulars anymore. I think it might be time to branch out! read more

On the Rox is legit. So happy to find a new spot in the northside kick it at. I'm so tired of driving all the way to midtown/washington for a decent happy hour. Happy Hour: $2.50 domestics $3 imports $4 wells $6 domestic pitchers + $3.99/lb. Crawfish - Spicy. Me likey. + They have St. Arnold's Divine #11 (limit 2 per person), $10 though. It was a reward for myself for getting through a long ass day at work. + Plenty of seating, very spacious w/ personal tvs at a handful of tables + Service was mediocre. Not bad and not geat. No complaints here. + Clean bathrooms + Great patio area available if you are feeling outdoorsy. Otherwise, chill in the dark, cool beer cave, as I'd like to call it. Very cheap hole in the wall. Less than great drinks. Bad experience, it was beautiful day to sit on the patio, and it was disappointing. No waitress outside, but several people out there, very strange. Ended up ordering food inside (2 fried appetizers), and it took over 25 minutes to get it. No waitress came to check on us during the wait, or ever. Then a band got there and started to set up, and then we got kicked out of our table because "that's where the bad sets up"... Umm no, how about you set up your tables correctly and don't ask your paying customers to move. Or maybe set up a table for us FIRST, and then ask us to move. Just shitty over all. read more

Their new location to a bigger building within the same shopping plaza has definitely made them much more appealing to me. They now have a lovely patio with nice sturdy furniture that I have been enjoying the somewhat cooler Houston weather at. They have a 15 minute lunch promise where they'll have it ready in that time. Only selected items are included in this lunch menu, you can order anything from the regular menu but then the 15 minute promise is void. I had Buffalo Chicken Flat-bread appetizer which was very delicious and did come out super quick. The waitress was efficient and despite having to trek from behind the bar to service me out on the patio still remained very cheerful. On other occasions I have tried the Haute Dam Flat-bread appetizer which is even more delicious than the Buffalo Chicken one. It was basically nacho dressings but on nicely crusted flat-bread. Their fish tacos are also decent. Happy hours are from 3-9 pm weekdays, gotta appreciate the late hours on that as reverse happy hours are becoming a bit rare around Houston. They have a non smoking section in one corner with a stage and one large long bar in the middle of the rest of the establishment. Depending on the crowd the service can be slow due to only a few employees handling such a large space. Most of the booths have their own small TV and there are large screens spread out across the entire bar as well as throughout the establishment. There are darts, various games, and a jukebox also. Its always dark inside, even during lunch time since there are not too many windows and only dim lightning and the added haze of cigarette smoke. Also, they have a dress code, mostly geared towards guys I think since I've shown up in jeans and flip flops and wasn't asked to leave. There didn't seem to be a hostess or anyone to enforce but there is a sign up outside concerning what is unacceptable attire. The crowd seems to be a lot more mature than at other bars but that doesn't bother me. Nice neighborhood bar with pretty good food and decent service. read more

I like that On The Rox has a 15 minute policy for their lunch. I'm not too sure if you're supposed to get anything if the food takes longer than 15 minutes to get to you but we didn't. There was a bit of confusion as to whose dish was whose and one in the group didn't actually get to order his drink until the food came. To be fair, we has a group of 10 so it's entirely possible the speed and accuracy issues were problems we created for ourselves. The free chips and queso for checking in on yelp was a nice touch. The food was passable, easily better than many bars in the area. I would go here again. If I manage to show up for a happy hour I will update the post. read more

My wife and I really like On the Rox. The atmosphere is very welcoming; especially for couples although there are plenty of singles in the evening. The staff is very friendly and make it a point of greeting you as you come in and getting to know your name. Decent selection of beers on tap. Food wise, the place is very good. Definitely not your standard bar fare. My wife loves the cajun pork chops. I did find the wings a little bleh but that is because I don't like breaded wings. On Thursday, they always have a really nice special. The decor of the place is so-so I guess. Kind of a weird layout since it was a restaurant originally I guess. But now that Fall is approaching, we will be checking out the large deck they have. They have a big crowd for football games and the booths each have their own TV so you can pick your own game to watch. Otherwise there are tons of TVs all along the walls. They have drawings and prizes for the Texans games also. If you are into darts, there are frequently folks playing that so make sure to bring them :) While it is a smoking bar, there is a non-smoking section and the smoke removal equipment seems pretty good. AVOID THIS BAR: The service was slow and the bartenders are rude. I was told by the bartender Christina that I was taking too long to order. I decided to have a seat and order from our waitress Haylee instead. Bigger Mistake! I was taken back by the customer service at this bar. I overheard our waitress (Haylee) get into a shouting match with another customer, I think the manager had to break the ladies up. Haylee was arguing with two ladies. Our waitress was very unprofessional and even returned to our table with an attitude after the incident had occurred. Haylee began to discuss the incident with the table behind us. We do not come to an establishment to hear gossip or care to see a waitress who can't keep her temper under control. Management here needs to reevaluate their staff and may consider starting over with a new crew. These ladies need to understand that we are paying customers and need to be treated with respect despite any drama that occurs with another customer. AVOID THIS BAR AT ALL COST. Do not waste your hard earned money here. There are tons of other bars in the area, better yet buy a six back of beer and drink it at home; before you come into this establishment. read more

I would definitely recommend this place. It has a slightly younger clientele and atmosphere than its neighbor across the street, Texas Tavern. The drinks are reasonably priced and occasionally you'll get one that is extra strong.They have some great service here. After just a few trips the waitress already knows my standard drink. They have darts on the back wall (1.50 per game or just throw darts at the board for free), pool in the front corner(not sure on cost), and an okay DJ on weekends. If you are in your 20's you will probably feel more at home here than Texas Tavern. read more

Second time here. The first time here, my food order was messed up. I never received it. Due to the error, however, I did get a drink on the house...it was good. I ended up ordering the Thursday pork chop special and the bacon cheeseburger, to go. Both were VERY very good....enough to make a return visit. This time, however, I got the steak, medium. It took a while for it to arrive. When received, it was black on the outside, tough on the inside. I told the bartender about my issue, and within minutes, I had another steak. I was able to keep my potatoes and green beans and eat those while waiting. When the new steak came out, it was on a full plate, with new sides. It was less tough than the previous, but still not medium-well...just well done...but still taste good and went down reasonably well...too tired to complain and it still tasted good. I had two of the long island iced teas and my friend had lemon drops. Both VERY good. Our server/bartender was great, and I will be looking for him next time. Update: March 19, 2017: Tried out Sunday Funday... Really wanted to try the French toast, but the crawfish ended up calling my name....They were $2.49/lb, with a minimum of 3 pounds. They were very tasty and not full of garlic and 'sauciness' that I've gotten at other places...A few were soft to where when you pinch the tail, it was mush... But, the great majority were great. We also got corn, potatoes and sausage ( which we ordered another order of cuz it was soooooooo good). We also had $4 fireball shots, $3 rail drinks...My friend also ordered chicken wings, which she throughly enjoyed, and I got an On the Rox Burger, extra cheese...Which I must Our bartender, Nick, had our drinks in point! OTR Jones, my go to place. Have been there many times, over the course of several years. Management is always accommodating, involved in the community, etc. The staff is awesome, always friendly, hard working, and helpful. I almost always have something to eat when I go there. Whether appetizers, a sandwich, a full meal or Sunday brunch, the food is always excellent. Regardless of season, there are lots of tvs for baseball, football, basketball, etc.. and not an obstructed view anywhere in the house. And, having a separate side for smoking, and a separate side for non-smoking, makes it that much more appealing. I have met and talked with several other customers over the years. Some interesting conversations. I was even, apparently, "adopted" as a member of Raiders Nation OTR-Jones branch this past football season. :-) There are a few groups of fans that come in and hang together, rooting for their favorite team, but the notion that there are "gangs" hanging out at OTR Jones, from what I have experienced, is nothing short of paranoia. Some folks might just be better off staying home behind their own personal walls. But, if you want to go out to a place with a comfortable atmosphere, friendly, efficient service, awesome food, watch the game and enjoy a cold beverage, I would suggest you head on over to OTR Jones! read more

Went to On the Rox for the Mancuso Harley Davidson Bike & Steak night that was scheduled from 6-9 or 9:30. I got there around 7:15 and sat in the non-smoking section at the bar. Took a while to get a drink and then I was told they were out of the steak after only an hour and a bit. They appeared unprepared to handle the event, under staffed or they were just slow. They didn't even have sports on in the non-smoking side and it's supposed to be a sports bar. I usually have good experiences here but not tonight. read more

I really like the place but until they have either more bar help in the later hours or get rid of NATALIE. She is the absolute rudest woman on earth. I'm a server and was neglected the whole time I was there under her care. I even tried ordering a drink and she told me word for word "are you going to cry about not getting your drink". Just because I waited 10 minutes for one drink when there was 10 other people in the whole bar and just asked when it would be ready. I would not recommend this place if she is working. I will be telling all of my serving staff to not attend this place anymore when she is there. I have been to this place probably 10 plus times. I have always treated amazing. Well today I walked in with my best friend. She had just got off her shift at a restaurant down the street. The "bouncer" was beyond aggressive. He was being super crazy about my ID. Oh, and for reference I will be 25 in 5 weeks. First of all the table was disgusting I had to ask the waitress to wipe it down. She apologized stating she was the only one here she was sorry. Not my problem you open a business hire enough people to run it are get out of business . Third you had twenty people here a few walked out because they did not get served quick enough. This used to be a small cigar bar and drinks bar across the street. I used to go there much more, it was more intimate and a great group of regulars and the cigar smoke wasn't too oppressive. They expanded there, then when the tired pathetic old Ninfa's folded on the corner they took that over with some renovations and make it a Sports Bar. The cigar part seems to have gone away. I went there a couple nights and they have a decent happy hour, their selection of beers is OK but pretty much standard for any place that does more than Coors-Bud-Miller-Sam Adams, the draft wall looks like more than it is. The smoke part seems to be worse. The menu is pretty much what you'd expect in a sports bar, but a tad pricey. The staff seems very friendly and cheerful. I went there for lunch once, and it was standard and a bit below acceptable considering the price. I had a patty melt and fries, nothing culinarily challenging but the patty melt had a bit of a taste that said microwave, you know, that slight boiled-water taste to the patty. I don't know that one was used, but it had that taste. The patty, cheese and onions were very hot; the rye bread was toasted nicely and was actually excellent rye with a real strong rye flavor as it should be. The fries were the standard Sysco frozen type cut fries, could have been a bit crisper, with a sporadic application of some type of seasoned salt that was ok. The location retains some of the layout of the old Ninfas but adds sports bar paraphernalia and a vastly enlarged bar across the middle. All in all an acceptable watering hole to meet up with friends. I'd like to try the snack/appetizer items to see if they are up to snuff for that after-work GTG, but the patty melt was waaay better across the street at the Backyard Grill. The parking lot is shared with a strip mall the includes a closed Randalls now being renovated into an HEB with Central Market. I hope that there doesn't end up being competition for space when that store opens. read more

Bars fine, foods average to good but the service was beyond awful. 15 minutes before they even bothered to ask us about drinks, asked them to turn on the Rockets game and had to ask 3 more times and wait 45 minutes. Seriously need to step up their service. And I hate hanging around dirty smokers, place reeks. read more

My favorite sports bar anywhere around this area. Food is above average and the service is good when they're not swamped. Watched some of the World Series here and it was great. Place is also pretty clean and yes they have smoking on one side but the ventilation is pretty good. read more

This place has moved by the way. Anyway, our group of 3 ordered wings, 2 burgers and a BLT. We originally got the wings that were wrong. They waitress fixed it and brought out the correct ones (time waiting 25 minutes). After the wings, the waitress informed us that our main courses were coming out. After waiting 1 hour at a restaurant that had 5 tables full, we ended up closing our the tab and leaving. There was no apologies or any type of remorse seen. While waiting, tables that came after us were served. We left lunch splitting 10 wings amongst 3 people. Sufficed to say, we missed lunch today. At least the wings were good, although overpriced. 10 wings for 12 bucks before tax. read more

Nice bar and tons of space compared to the old location. Biggest issue is one of my friends who is wheelchair bound can not use the restroom. The handicap stall opens to the inside. You can't go in and close the door with a wheelchair. Needs to be fixed to service the handicapped community. Service is extremely slow here. Food takes 45 minutes and there were only two waitresses on the non-smoking side making drinks, taking orders, etc. The staff seems very disorganized, especially the staff bringing food out to the tables. The bar has a smoking and non-smoking side, with separate entrances for each side so non-smokers don't have to walk through the smoking areas. However, don't be fooled by a non-smoking area. You can still smell smoke - and after I left, my hair and clothes smelled of smoke too and I wasn't sitting anywhere near the smoking side of the bar. I generously gave this bar two stars because my drinks were decent enough and their prices are cheap. There are also lots of TVs to watch the game on. This bar has great potential but the slow service and lack of staff ruin it for me. read more
