The service was fast and the server brought us water and took our order in no time. I opted for the panang curry with chicken, which was very good. I asked for a medium spicy level and it was a bit too mild so I asked for some extra chilli flakes to give it the little bit more heat. After seeing the high star rating for this small narrow place with loud 70s music blasting, we decided to try it for a quick lunch. Sadly the pad Thai lunch special was truly the worst I have ever eaten in my entire life. Even the Thai places in the shopping malls are better tasting. The quality of the pad Thai was poor, burnt chicken for both our platters and low quality oil. The side salad was edible and the vegetable soup with broccoli carrots and tofu was tasty. What a tiny Thai gem hidden on a bleak street! We wanted to get take-out when COVID hit in April, but sadly the restaurant was closed. Come October, we finally get a chance for a dine-in experience. What bothered me was once we were seated and in the process of placing our drink order, we were unwittingly relocated to another table, with a half apology from wait staff. We had to wait over ten minutes for the first seating. Yes this prolongs the order placing and food arrival, taking into consideration that One Two Thai was in dinner mode. Amongst our seven dishes ordered, the Massaman Chicken Curry was undercooked and not spicy, even though we requested the entrees to be served as spicy as possible. The delicious appetizers included Chive Pancake and Curry Puff. Thankfully the Thom Yum had flavor and I made sure our server brought us extra powdered chili. No complaints about Chicken Fried Rice or the Khao Soi (mock duck). Given the small indoor dinning space, one would expect consistent friendly follow up from wait staff. The rice that came with the Red Curry my friend and the rice in the pineapple fried rice I ordered was cold. My friend told the server that her white rice was cold so she was given a bowl of hot rice after. The peanut sauce that came with the chicken satay didn't have much flavor. The crazy part was when I saw the 20% gratuity automatically added in the bill. I thought it was ridiculous because we're only 2 people, not a large group of 8 or more people. Excellent Thai food, really exceeded my expectations given the price. Most dishes for dinner will run you no more than $12-13 and the portion size is large enough to be shareable. My favorite is the Khao Soi, but friends really like the drunken noodles and the pad Thai as well. They offer multiple levels of spiciness and respect them; if you order something very spicy, you're going to get it very spicy, so be prepared to sweat. Their papaya salad is fantastic as well - really citrusy and fresh with crisp pork rinds. The crab Rangoon was delicious. Only thing I didn't love was the Tom yom soup, which was okay but nothing special. Probably wouldn't order that again. I think they have an even cheaper lunch special as well but it's certainly a great dinner spot. Delivery has been impeccable - on time, nothing forgotten, well-packaged, and they even labeled everything with our names, which made divvying up the group order really painless. Came by here on a Saturday morning soon after opening for a relaxing early lunch. The tucked away backyard was an ideal setting on a warm day with enough shade to stay away from the sun. To start off, decided on the Chicken Wings ($8) to go along with a Thai Iced Coffee ($4). Wings are six to an order, well crisped and served alongside a sweet chili sauce. Not much flavor in the wings overall, more on the greasy side and the chili sauce is mostly sweet. Thai Coffee helped out, as there is a nice hit of bitterness to compliment the food. For the main meal, ordered the Pork Drunken Noodle ($12) - a healthy portion of meat on top of flat noodles, egg, and veggies. Much more balanced dish than the wings, a good kick of spice and not overly greasy noodles. Pork is chewy, but for the price wasn't going to get the best cut. Our server was helpful and pointed out that many of the dishes contain fish sauce (vegetarians can have a difficult time). After Thai-ish closed, this place is probably the best value for money in the area, for both lunch and dinner. BKK is a couple bucks more expensive (and no longer offers lunch specials) for the similar quality. Lan larb is $1-1.5 cheaper for moderately worse quality. I've had the pad thai, drunken noodle, holy basil, and pad see euw. You can tell they don't use the worst cuts of meat as some other cheap thai spots do, since the meat has never been dry or stringy in the times I've ordered. They're also not afraid to be bold with flavors. The pad thai was sweet, salty, and citrousy - in the way it should be. The drunken noodle was salty, spicy, and rich. The lunch special has some unique appetizer options (like shrimp rolls, which is literally a large shrimp fried in a spring roll wrapper), and also comes with a drink for $11. Downsides: online ordering system (through their own website) is garbage and often broken. Wish they had more drink options for the lunch special ( it's only like 3 options including water or coke). I was sitting with family and they gave me the check and said that we have to leave soon because they are going on a break. I looked around and saw that they did not do that to any one else who was eating at the time. There where a few tables with people eating at the time. I brought it up to her and the a guy who works there as well said that I always come close to when they close for a break, that is why they singled me out. I said that I will not come at all with this kind of hospitality and left with my family. I stayed away for awhile, but came back because they have good food. Which is not as good as it was before now. I asked her for a second plate to share my dish with my friend. She brought me a tiny plate. When I asked her if it is possible to bring a larger plate, she made an excuse not to bring a larger plate saying that only small plates are allowed for splitting lunch specials. I did not go there for a while and came back with a client for a work lunch. Should have known better. This time when I asked the waitress a question, she made a snark remark in front of my client and then charged me 20% tip at the end of the meal. When I asked her why she included the tip and made it 20%. She said that she did that because we shared a dish. She did not mention that she will include a tip of 20% when we asked to share the dish. I usually give 20% tips, but the service experience with this girl and the guy who work there was the worst experience in all the restaurants in NYC. I feel terrible that I kept coming back to a place where I was mistreated, I will not be coming back ever.
