I've been to a few different Ono locations in the Bay Area, and they are usually okay, nothing spectacular. There is usually something about that them where I don't want to return. But I've come to this location a few times and even ordered on Doordash and the food has been great! Portions are good. Short ribs or any other meats they have are not tiny. Some restaurants will have dinky short ribs, with barely any meat on the bone. I recently tried their island fire chicken, and was impressed! I do wish it was part of a two item combo tho, because I like it, but it's one of those things, that I don't just want that taste, I want another meat to come with the plate. I always get musubis for the kids and myself, and they don't skimp on wrapping the musubi with a tiny piece of seaweed, they cover it all the way. All in all I really appreciate the quality of their food! We usually order from L&L's and Hawaiian Drive In, but Ono's has been hitting a lot better later! read more

I am so frustrated with these people. I ordered food because my kids asked for it and drove 45 minutes to pick up my phone order. After picking up my order and driving back home, I went to serve my kids and realized we were missing parts of our order. I called them back and asked for a refund and they said to call back the next day for a manager to help me. Of course the manager didn't help me. They asked me to drive 1.5 hour so they can issue a refund. When I told them I don't want to drive and it's a mistake they made, they suggested I fill out a form online and hopefully someone would call me. I order the mixed plate with teriyaki chicken, Kalbi ribs, sliced beef over a bed of cooked cabbage and large scoop of rice and a scoop of macaroni salad. There was enough food for 3 meals for me! All the meats were moist and not over cooked. The flavors for all the meats is pretty much teriyaki. hey! it's Hawaiian! . First time going to Ono after more than a year to get that Hawaiian food fix. Grabbed my usual - chicken katsu with extra mac salad (replace one scoop of rice) and it was soo satisfying. There was a LOT of chicken, enough for a filling leftover meal the next day. It was crispy and juicy as well, can't complain about that. The price was not bad, either, somewhere around 11 with tax? I ended up having their Hawaiian BBQ Chicken, Teriyaki Chicken, Grilled Chicken Breast, and Island White Fish. All were pretty darn good. The white fish comes with tar tar sauce, which goes great with the fish for sure. The portion sizes were pretty decent, but when you use a buy-one-get-one free dish coupon that occasionally comes in the mail, you can't resist the good deal. Outside of those coupons, the price are okay, but nothing outstanding. I will say that Ono Hawaiian BBQ is a step above the L&L Hawaiian BBQ chain that you see in the area, and I certainly prefer Ono Hawaiian BBQ whenever I have a choice. We were in the Serramonte area and it was getting late, so one of the only things that was still open was Ono Hawaiian, making it an easy choice. We shared the mixed BBQ plate with BBQ chicken, Korean rib, and steak. There was quite a bit of chicken, but disappointingly, only one piece of the rib. Flavors were relatively sweet, but also oddly bland at the same time. The macaroni salad was so-so as well, and I was generally underwhelmed. I'm not sure what it is about chain Hawaiian restaurants but they're never anything special until you find the little hole-in-the-walls. The fried shrimp is delicious as well. Probably breaded and fried twice bc it's super crispy. The bbq chicken is always cooked perfectly. The chicken has so much flavor, I'm sure they marinated it over night. I always catch myself eating this and thinking of ways to remake it. The food is always awesome!!! Today, 4/7/2024 at 1:45pm, I was waiting patiently while the one person at the counter was taking a customer's order.... Then a guy put down a red bucket (assuming it was cleaning solution) and a bottle of bleach. No gloves on. He asked me if he could help me, he was really polite... I then asked for 2 napkins. But as I walked back to my table I smelled bleach, I sniffled the napkins and one seemed wet with a strong bleach smell. I immediately went to the counter and returned the napkins to the cashier and mentioned to him that they smell like bleach and the other guy who has bleach in his hand just gave them to me and I asked for some new napkins. It's not a big deal... but what if a customer had wiped their lips on a napkin that was damp with bleach. I'm concerned that the employees haven't had "safe food handling" training. This guy was not wearing gloves and in one hand he had a bucket of cleaning solution and in the other hand he had a bottle of bleach.... Then he hands me (a customer) something, with his wet hands that had bleach solution on it because the napkins he gave to me reeked of bleach. the musubi is super filling. Ample meat and rice. However, it's poorly packed (messy to eat) and the seaweed was super soggy. So much so that the seaweed was stringy and hard to bite. I think most of this is attributed to the fact that they use fresh hot rice, which basically melts the seaweed. Parking is fine. Customer service was superb. Food was just OK. The Hawaiian shirts, luaus, beautiful beaches next to crystal clear blue water, warm tropical weather, surfing, kona coffee, ukuleles, tiny bubbles, and one other thing. The food. When and how Macaroni salad, rice, Kalua Pork, Poke, poi, spam and the heavy influence of Japanese cuisine influence came together, I don't know. Probably similar to how San Francisco fused so many cultures to create the coolest city in the world. We take a little from each culture and make our on "Steez". Ono cooks the food after you order it. No fast food here, it's hot when you get your food. I ordered the 3 meat combo with a side of katsu and musubi so I can give a well rounded review. Good portions and I ended up with a nice combo of savory and sweet on my plate. Eating at Ono's uploaded in my mind, good times I've experienced in Hawaii in the past and made me think I'm about due to go to the 50th state again. Zero stars! We loved Ono when it was run by friendly Hawaiians ages ago and often drove a long distance to get there. The food was first-rate and the restaurant was spotless. However, with no warning, the very popular place was sold to rude Chinese men who lowered the food quality, ignored sanitation and fired the popular Hawaiian staff. Many were students at SF State. We stopped going to Ono years ago because of the bad food, sticky, greasy spoon environment and large black, metallic flakes that came out of the grimy soda fountain with no apology or price adjustment. Under its new owners, the place had a history of Health Dept. citations. Complaints to the negligent corporate office remain unanswered to this day. Unfortunately, since the original Ono changed ownership, we haven't found any good Hawaiian restaurants in the San Francisco area. Forget Mahalo on Irving in the Sunset. It's as fake as a seven-dollar bill. We got bad deliveries from them. The long-gone Hukilau in SF's Inner Richmond District had great Hawaiian food back in the day, but it eventually succumbed to sanitation issues and bad cooks. The kitchen was dirty and the expensive place constantly reeked of disinfectants slopped on the floors with filthy mops. Reportedly, Hukilau was part of a well-known restaurant chain based in Hawaii. read more

I would definitely recommend it for lunch, I came during lunch time, it was busy by I still got my order quickly. I ordered crispy shrimp side, and short rib combo. Combos don't come with a drink. Most combos come with mac n cheese and two scoops of rice but I swapped the mac n cheese for salad to keep it light. It was delicious! The salad was tossed greens and came with edamame and a creamy sesame dressing.
