Aw man, this place has gone downhill. I'd been several times prior and loved it, but today was so eeehhhhh. We got there a little before 5 and were given a choice of a table- service was very fast but the food was completely mediocre. My fettucine was undercooked and tasteless with the salmon. The hummus with meat was as if they just dumped some dry ground beef on some regular hummus, this cost $10. My boyfriend barely ate half of his pasta bolognese. We also had to ask for napkins, it seemed like we had picked a table that wasn't actually entirely set up yet. The waiters were very accommodating with everything we asked for so we tipped well but this may be my last visit to Opa. :( read more

What a disappointment and I usually love Middle Eastern and Mediterranean food. The grape leaves were so mushy inside and the flavor of lemon (or something pickled) was terribly overwhelming. The pita bread was hard (like it was heated up in the microwave)and the Baba ghanooj was also soooooo lemony. I had a Cesar salad and it was made with a Parmesan cheese type of dressing with shredded mozzarella on top. I stopped here for 2 reasons: 1) I typically love this type of food 2) the outdoor seating on Federal Hill seemed alluring. I believe in giving places a SECOND CHANCE so I will come back, BUT 1) I WILL ORDER DIFFERENT MENU ITEMS 2) SIT INSIDE. I've been here several times and the service has been good. Today, the service was terrible! My boyfriend and I always come for the "Take me to Lebanon" dish , which includes small portions of many dishes. The food is always brought out in small portions within 15-20 minutes in between to allow to enjoy the food. Today , the food was rushed out and cold. Not enough time was given from one entree to the other, and then at the end, we had to wait over 45 min to finally get the check;the waiter stopped coming to check on the table. Quite possibly the worst service I've ever gotten in a restaurant. I've gotten better service at McDonalds from people who don't even speak the same language as me. I've gotten better service at an all you can eat buffet where you serve yourself. I've even gotten better service at a drive thru window. We had a table of people with empty drinks all night, never an offer for another drink, no offer for dessert, nothing. They cleared the table and rushed off leaving us sitting there waiting for any kind of acknowledgement for about a half hour. We finally tracked someone down who sent us a server to get dessert, still no offer for another round of drinks. We barely got utensils out of him before he rushed off again, nevermind giving us napkins or drinks or even a freaking smile. The wait for the check was just as bad, and they had the nerve to add a ridiculous amount for gratuity. No wonder we had terrible service, they didn't even have to work for it! How sad, have some pride in your work people. If he was smart he would have offered the table more drinks, our bill would have easily been another $100. We had ONE drink and were there for 2 1/2 hours. Unacceptable. We did only plan on being there for an hour and a half, and had they done their jobs we could have been. I think 2 people in our party were able to wrangle him down to get a second but the rest of us didn't even have water. We usually go out in a big group and have amazing service to where we all throw in extra on the included tip but this was one instance where we debated crossing out their outlandish 20% for shitty service and add just half. It was that bad, but we didn't know if that was allowed. The music was retarded loud, we were all screaming at each other across the table. Is this a restaurant or a night club? What a nightmare. Did I even mention the food? Wow, kind of forgettable I guess when you're service was so lousy! I changed my rating from one star to two based on their food, and I'll go back in time and finish this review a little out of order. The food was not terrible, but nothing I would ever go back for. I love hummus, it is a staple in my house, and theirs was pretty good. My only gripe would be if a table orders 2, don't just give them 1 order of pita bread. We were splitting bread just to get through the hummus, I'm embarrased for them. Nevermind asking for more, we'd be waiting for 20 minutes just to get a waiter over to the table. They are super quick to clear the table though, they even took my valet ticket with them. So on to the next course.. if you've read my reviews you know that I love me some balsamic calamari. I ordered it grilled which is great to see on a menu because I love grilling squid in the summertime. The menu says it comes with balsamic vinegar so I was expecting to taste it, but it was overpowered by the big puddle of oil in the middle of my plate. Meh? I asked the super quick table clearer for a side of balsamic so I could actually taste the flavor, but it was just the same oily tasteless dressing that I received. They should try it with just balsamic, or a balsamic reduction, the oily salad dressing is just plain weird, I didn't order a salad. On the other hand my cousin said that her seafood dish was very good. So this is where our tables were cleared and we were left for dead.. can we get some drinks and dessert over here please?? Our super speedy table clearer finally showed up again to clear a glass and we asked if they even serve dessert, or what was going on, she said she would find our waiter. It was my cousin's birthday after all and we wanted to celebrate a little bit in our corner, with our without their help. I ordered tiramisu and it was delightful. On the other hand my cousin said her baklava was dreadful. It was not flaky in the least bit, more dense and mushy rolls, swimming in a sea of murk. As for the atmosphere, besides the blaringly deafening music, we were seated next to the front window where walker bys kept stopping to peer in and watch us eat, we felt like we were in a fish tank. We did see the usual Saturday night Federal Hill celebrities out of our fish bowl, which is always a hoot. We used to frequent Renaissance where Pauly D was sure to spin and shout out Peter Manfredo at the bar, you definitely know you're on Federal Hill at this place. Also, they had the hookahs out but I was pleasantly surprised that it didn't overtake the air with gross. On one last note I would advise anyone checking out these reviews to notice who are the true yelpers leaving honest feedback and who are shouting out the owners by name with 5 star reviews. I guess you only get good service if you know the owners, who by the way should have stopped shmoozing, fire the terrible wait staff, and handled their business. Great dinner last night at OPA!! Lamb Kabobs, Chicken birds nest and the OPA wings. All excellent , although the wings were more like the mini bird wings on a cheap Chinese buffet. The lemon garlic sauce for these pigeon wings was great and made up for the midget size. We will be back! read more

I really love the theme of this restaurant! They had a belly dancer performing while I was enjoying my dinner. However there is a strange cross theme between middle eastern and Italian cuisine which may be sort of an identity crisis. The menu is mostly Italian food and was lacking good middle eastern main course cuisine. The Hummus and bread was good though but that was the appetizer. For the main course the pasta was okay I probably could have ordered a better pasta plate elsewhere on Atwells Ave. The drinks were good though and the hookah was also good although it was pricey at $33. I have to give props to this place, because when I went on Saturday, it was the only place on Federal Hill that wasn't packed to the gills. Then, it surprised me with great pre-meal bread (pita and balsamic-oil-oregano ... yum!), an amazing and affordable bottle of the house Pinot Noir, and truly amazing entres for both my boyfriend and me. 4 friends and i wanted to try a new hookah place. We usually go to Nara. Poor service and hookah went flat within 20 minutes. We had to wait 10 minutes for someone to change the charcoal. Paid 90 bucks for two hookahs and two bottles of water. The attitude of the waitress was unbelievable. It was a complete rip off. We are never going back. On the good side, the staff were very polite, the decor is nice, and I like that they offer Lebanese, but also some classic Italian fare to fit in their surroundings on the "Hill". That said, both our pita bread and grape leaves were obviously microwaved. Pita bread was like matzo as soon as it cooled and the grape leaves were warm on the outside and flaming hot on the inside. Ate here last night with my wife. She had the sirloin steak with fries, I had the mixed kabob. The ambiance was very nice, and the restaurant interestingly decorated. We were immediately seated, and our waitress took our order expeditiously. Both of our entrees were fabulous. Our waitress--who was the owners daughter--was so friendly, sociable, and informative. We thought it was also nice that the chef owner would come out after preparing your meal to make sure it was to your liking. Great all around. read more

Absolutely amazing! We went with the chefs tour of Lebanon, this gave us a little taste of everything. We could've had four people eating all the food we got. My wife I visited Opa for a late night dinner and were very pleased with both the service and food.

All I can say is wow...and not in a good way. Here's what' happened: First, we waited about 3-5 minutes until someone noticed we were there (we were the only people standing at the door). Then we wait another 5-10 minutes waiting for a waiter who never shows, prompting me to find one. It only gets worse. We order drinks...don't get them. Waiter comes again, apologizes, finally brings drinks. We ask for a hookah (shisha) menu and don't get one...we're told the flavors though and order peach flavored tobacco. We also order food. End result: OK tasting food, though it was greatly overpriced...Hookah? Not good, not bad...but the worst part? It was $30!!! I have my own hookah at home and I've been to hookah bars around the world and have paid a lot less for a better made hookah. After everything, the bill for 2 people came out to close to $100!...I wouldn't mind spending that if the food, service, and hookah were at least good. I hate to leave a bad rating, but this experience got me so angry that I had to give Opa some sort of revenge for their horrible service, food, and prices. read more

O-P-A, yeah, you know me! Ok, lemme break it down for ya. Food: This was the highlight of Opa for me. I went in for drinks and apps, and they delivered. The organic cucumber martini is the perfect summer cocktail; i couldn't help but order a second. I thought the tiny pieces of cucumber were a nice touch. The Shrimp Opa and fried clams were delicious -- especially the fried clams. Oh so tender and lightly battered, and I highly recommend the accompanying sauce. Service: Opa faltered quite a bit here. I walked up to what looked to be a host and requested a table for two. We turned down a two-top table in the middle of the bar side for a quieter spot on the far left wall with a booth. No sooner had we sat down when a rather rude waiter came over and announced that the table was reserved and we could not sit there! Back to the two-top in the center we go. I was willing to take that in stride until the same waiter came over (after we had placed drink orders with a previous, much friendlier waiter) and asked if we would like to order food. I stumbled a bit since I knew we already had a waiter but placed our appetizer order anyway. Waiting... waiting... waiting... I'd say it was a good 30 minutes. No food. Our original waiter finally came back to take a second drink order and asked if we wanted food. I told him we had placed our order with the other waiter, and he seemed miffed, for obvious reasons. Our waiter was kind enough to sort out the ordeal and buy the second round of drinks. Atmosphere: Upon arriving, I thought Opa was a cute, quaint Federal Hill restaurant. That impression quickly changed within an hour when a strange assortment of ethnic music blasted throughout the restaurant. I'm fine with loud music on a late Friday or Saturday night when many restaurants tend to become more "clubby." Also fine with the ethnic tunes, at a moderate level. This was a Wednesday night, before 10 p.m. Can I at least be able to have a conversation?? This kind of ruined the experience for me. One of my best friends had her birthday dinner here last night - reservation for 13 on a tuesday at 7pm. It was perfect. The restaurant was open and it was light out until about 9pm. We got plenty of fresh air and had a big table - the restaurant had everything set up right on time. The food was so delicious, The table shared 4 appetizers and had drinks to start. Our waitress Jackie was amazing. 3 of the girls had the $38 dinner option with a bunch of apps and dinner options - sort of family style. The rest of us ordered individually. I had the mixed grill kebob and it was so amazing. Lamb, chicken and steak with rice and salad - everything was perfect and so tasty. If you are a big eater, which i would do for lunch on a weekend i would recommend the $38 option to try everything. We had hummus grape leaves and a sort of avocado salad appetizer and I could tell you there wasn't anything on that table I didn't love. The 3 that chose the family style option were stuffed and everyone started laughing when the waiter brought out their last dish because they thought that was it. The last dish to come out was the rice and meats plate so they packed that up to go but it is worth the price, lots of options and a good amount. The waitress was able to divide checks and provide individual checks which was amazing. I work within walking distance and I can not wait to go back! I paid for 1 appetizer, my dish, and a glass of prosecco with tip included for $57 and have lunch for today. YUM. read more
